Upon recovering from a fall into a pit of spikes, the ninja and Clutch come across the skeletal remains of Clutch's former competitor, Hageman. Clutch said that Hageman hadn't read the book, and stated that it cost him his life. Zane picked up Hageman's copy of the book and said that he did read it. Clutch snatched and opened the book, saying that he did not reach chapter nine, the chapter on cobweb traps. He then carelessly threw it at the skeleton, causing it to fall apart. Jay picked up the book as they passed.

Ninja vs Lava[]

While chained to a wall, Jay read Hageman's copy of the book, until the torches went out and lava started erupting. He dropped the book out of shock, causing it to burn instantly.

  • The book has an unknown amount of chapters. Chapter 8 covers rickety bridges, while Chapter 9 covers cobweb traps.
    • Two chapters of the book are also entitled, "What To Do When All is Lost" and "Escaping from Close Calls".
      • There is also "a whole chapter on rising lava", possibly the page after "Escaping from Close Calls".[1]
  • The cover of the book says "Survival Guide" in Ninjargon.
