Plot

In Imperium, the lights and electro-barrier flash on and off. A long line of Imperians, who are now coexisting with those from other realms, wait to receive a new household battery, of which Imperium is running low. The Imperians sigh at the news, and two of them bicker about whether Beatrix's rule was superior. At the Broadcast Tower, Percival and two scientists attempt to fix the blackout. Percival tells the scientists to reroute power from the energy barrier to power the city. The people celebrate as the energy barrier is turned off and the power is stabilized. A Mutation Monster suddenly appears and starts attacking the Imperians.

In Umbrasilvis, Freya brings water to Riyu as Sora, Frak, and Wyldfyre surround him. The team comments on Riyu's ability to take the monster's blast. Freya thanks the ninja for saving the village when Johnny Courageous walks in. He informs them that the monster was contained in the Expanding Frontier. He then goes on to despise them for caring for Riyu, calling him a beast, which they did not appreciate before the Umbrasilvans drag Courageous out. Wyldfyre suspects Riyu has a condition called the Numbness. She says other dragons have been cured from the Numbness by creating an antidote from a small amount of what caused the condition. Believing the monster was made from Elemental Energy, Sora says she needs to create something that can convert that energy. Freya hands Sora a box of technology the town gathered for them. Sora attempts to use her Technology powers but is unable to do so.

In the Whispering Wood, Lloyd, Arin, and Euphrasia encounter and try to hold back four Elemental Monsters. They are eventually cornered by them until Zane arrives in his helicopter, jumping out and joining the fight, catching the team up on him and P.I.X.A.L. splitting up to find everyone else. The Whispering Wood then gives Lloyd another boost, which also empowers Zane and Euphrasia, enabling everyone to fight off the Elemental Monsters and have them return to their energy states. Afterwards, Arin notices Zane's change of personality and Lloyd catches Zane up on what he missed, getting his help in locating the Temple of the Green Ninja.

Nya, Kai, and Jay sneak around The Administration. Kai asks what the Department of Vacation Simulation is, and Jay explains how Administration Agents sit in vacation simulator chairs since they are not allowed to go anywhere during vacation days. Red lights start flashing, and the system announces the ninja's presence in the building and the releasing of the Robo Eliminators.

In Umbrasilvis, Sora builds and completes the machine by hand. They enter the Expanding Frontier and see the captured Mutation Monster and Explorer's Club celebrating. Reginald gives a speech about their victory, neglecting to mention Riyu and Sora's significant contributions. Sora outspokenly calls out Reginald for doing so before placing the machine onto the cage. Reginald forbids her to interfere with the monster when, almost immediately, the power is extracted, and Sora and Frak run off.

In the Whispering Wood, Zane regales the team with a story from his and P.I.X.A.L.'s adventures. The group, under Lloyd's suggestion, takes a break. Euphrasia compliments Arin and opens up to him about her insecurities, when the latter offers to teach her Spinjitzu. Zane then suggests drawing to help Lloyd concentrate on something other than his doubts. With Zane guiding him, it ends up working, as Lloyd successfully draws a map leading to the Temple of the Green Ninja.

Sora gives Riyu the energy from the machine while asking Frak why he let Reginald take credit for the monster's capture. Frak explains how speaking his mind was unacceptable in his household, and Sora reminds him he is no longer a kid. Riyu's condition remains unchanged.

The Robo Eliminators search for Kai, Jay, and Nya inefficiently. The ninja believe they are safe when they encounter the robots. Jay lies to the Robo Eliminators, but they detect the lie and start attacking them.

Back in Umbrasilvis, Riyu starts to wheeze, and Wyldfyre says nothing is changing. Sora guesses Riyu needs more energy, and she and Frak head back to the airship. They find the place wrecked and deserted. Sora says someone has let out the monster from its containment unit. They hear a scream coming from behind the door and head towards it.

The group in the Administration hides from the Robo Eliminators in the Department of Vacation Simulation. They jump out from their hiding spots and defeat the Eliminators by sending them on simulated vacations. Nya inspects the equipment's mechanism and says the machine could, in theory, be used to block memories. Jay then seats himself in one of the seats, ready to recover his memories, when Nya reveals the risk that, if it goes wrong, Jay's brain could be damaged to the point that making new memories would be impossible. Despite this, Jay wants to proceed with the plan. Nya turns on the machine, unblocking some of Jay's memories. After he awakens, he immediately kisses Nya for the first time in years, with Kai watching on before trying to get them to stop when they take too long. Elsewhere, the group in the Whispering Wood arrives at the temple.

  • This is Chris "Doc" Wyatt's favorite episode from Season 4, as he finds it to be particularly efficient.[4]
  • This marks the first instance of Dragons Rising using footage from the original series.
  • Although a very short time passed between Season 3 and Season 4, this episode portrays the City of Imperium way differently from its appearance in "The Vault of Focus," with Imperians now using a blue form of energy and many new other-realmers being integrated into society.
  • Zane's behaviour from this episode onwards is the response to the complaints of Zane's robotic personality in recent years, making him feel more human. The correction to his personality was hinted on Bluesky by Doc Wyatt, and him and P.I.X.A.L. exploring the Merged Lands together in Season 3 Part 2 is the in-universe explanation.
  • When Euphrasia says, "Powers are back again!", Zane responds with, "Again?". This is because he wasn't there the last time the Whispering Wood gave Lloyd an Elemental Boost.

  • Johnny calling Riyu a beast foreshadows him being a Loyalist.
  • Although it is only a flashback, this is the first time Mega Monster Amusement Park has been seen in Ninjago: Dragons Rising, and the first time since "A Line in the Sand" nearly 9 years prior.
  • This is the first time Wisp has been seen since "Endings."
  • This is the first appearance of Jay in the present-day with his memories restored in Ninjago: Dragons Rising and the first time in general since "Roots", nearly 4 years prior.
  • This is the second time Jay and Nya reconciled. The first time was in "The Way Back."
