Ninja vs. Imperium! is the 135th issue of the Ninjago Magazine. It includes 892513 Frak and Ghost Hunter Kai appears on the cover.

Within the Crossroads, Dr. LaRow and her Loyalists scheme to recapture the throne of Imperium thanks to the doctor's newest breakthrough: the extraction of Dragon energy from dragon bones. With the extracted energy being more pure and more powerful than any Imperium had drained from dragons in the past, Dr. LaRow believes that she can use this energy to create super Photacs. Armed with an excavator mech, Dr. LaRow and her forces now make preparations to excavate the remains of a long dead Source Dragon.
Some time later, Dr. LaRow and her forces arrived at the excavation site, discovering to their surprise that the bones had already been excavated. Before the group could descend the hill, however, the bones suddenly dissolved and vanished before their eyes! Surprise quickly turned to anger and LaRow ordered her forces to promptly attack the Ninja, believing that they had somehow captured the Source Dragon's energy for themselves.
On the ground below, Cole, Kai, and Frak were leaving the site in their Ninja Combat Vehicle when they were accosted by two of the Loyalists riding atop of captured Mountain Dragons. Undeterred by the attack, the ninja responded by splitting their vehicle into three, with Frak utilizing the hover part to fight back against the dragon riders and releasing the captured dragons. Moments later, Dr. LaRow attacked in her excavator mech, shouting deliriously that she would retake the dragon energy the ninja had absorbed, much to their confusion. As she neared, Kai responded with fireballs while Cole and Frak combined their respective powers of Earth and Quake to open a chasm beneath LaRow's mech, burying her.
As the ninja made their way back to their vehicle to head to the Rookery, LaRow's excavator mech burst from the ground beside them; she had tunneled her way back to the surface! In spite of this sudden reappearance, LaRow's mech was quickly toppled and destroyed by Cole and Frak, much to LaRow's dismay. As she angrily shouted at the ninja for ruining her day, Cole explained to her that they had absolutely no idea what she was talking about, nor did they know what had happened to the skeleton when it disappeared. With a resigned growl, LaRow and her forces then parted ways with the ninja.

- The comic acknowledges Dr. LaRow's status after Dragons Rising, Season 1, showing her living in the Crossroads with some loyal Imperians who wish for her to become the new ruler of Imperium. However, this contradicts with Dragons Rising Season 4, which reveals that she's been working to put Beatrix back in power since before Season 2.
