History[]

Background[]

The Kingdom of Imperium was a city where both Imperians and dragons coexisted harmoniously. The dragons willingly shared their energy, which played a crucial role in powering the kingdom and ensuring its prosperity.^[2] Emperor Levo ruled over Imperium, keeping the Imperians isolated from the outside world and limiting their knowledge about other realms and their inhabitants,^[3][4] although he would have certain meetings with those from other realms.^[2] One day, Ras saw an opportunity to exploit Imperium's advanced technology for his master's plan to conquer other realms by controlling the Source Dragons for their energy.^[5] Ras convinced Beatrix, who was tempted by his offer, to betray her father and become the Empress of Imperium in exchange for helping him. This act of betrayal led to Ras successfully plotting the murder of Emperor Levo and the banishment of Zeatrix from the kingdom.^[2] As a result, Beatrix took the throne and her influence caused the Imperians to develop a strong animosity towards dragons, viewing them as dangerous creatures and Beatrix and Lord Ras founded the Claws of Imperium to track and capture dragons to power their kingdom with their energy.^[6][2] Ana, however, while still a child was ostracized for defending Zanth against Imperium's exploitation of dragon energy.^[7]

In order to obtaining an inexhaustible source of energy to power the kingdom, Empress Beatrix, under Lord Ras' advice, decided to hunt and capture Source Dragons. Thus, the Imperians developed a glass core designed to trap Source Dragons^[8][2] and they captured the Source Dragon of Energy after Ras called forth him in the Kingdom of Imperium by using a Dragon Icon.^[9] With the Source Dragon of Energy contained within the core, the Imperians planned to harness the dragon's energy to power the city's entire infrastructure.^[8] With the realms united as a result of the Merge, Imperium found itself neighboring Ninjago City, prompting Ana to seek sanctuary at the Crossroads with Arin.^[7] Meanwhile, Zane was trapped in a stasis pod at the Monastery of Imperium during the chaotic events.^[10]

Dragons Rising, Season 1[]

The Merge: Part 1[]

After successfully apprehending Riyu as part of Ras' agenda, the Claws of Imperium had planned to transfer Riyu to the kingdom on the next day. However, Riyu eluded their custody and managed to escape to the Crossroads.

The Merge: Part 2[]

Upon the Claws' return to Imperium, Ras promptly apprised Beatrix of Lloyd's successful connection with a Matriarch Dragon, which signified the advancement in Imperium's ongoing pursuit of the Source Dragons.

Beyond Madness[]

Inside the Advanced Systems Lab facility, Ras checked on Dr. LaRow and Dorama's progress in activating the Photacs.

Writers of Destiny[]

Rapton and two Claw Hunters came back to the Kingdom of Imperium with the Ice Dragons they had captured from Cloud Kingdom, following Beatrix and Ras' instructions.

Return to Imperium[]

Lloyd, Arin, Sora, and Riyu infiltrated the Kingdom of Imperium by using the Imperium Sewers, subsequently gaining access to the Security Station to acquire Imperian ID cards and uniforms. Regrettably, their efforts was thwarted by an Imperium Guard, who promptly apprehended the ninja due to their failure to adhere to the mandatory shoulder pad policy on weekdays. They were escorted to the Public-Shaming Platform for punishment. Fortunately, Riyu's intervention facilitated their escape, albeit resulting in their separation. Lloyd unintentionally encountered Wyldfyre, whom he mistook as Kai, within Imperium Prison. Meanwhile, Arin and Riyu remained pursued by the Imperium Guards, and Sora, while attempting to deactivate the Photac in the Advanced Systems Lab, was caught by Dr. LaRow.

Mindless Beasts[]

Arin and Riyu fled from the Security Station out into the City of Imperium where they encountered the Imperium Teen Resistance Force. Meanwhile, Lloyd and his new ally, Wyldfyre, fought their way through the Imperium Prison to release Heatwave and all the other captured dragons. Elsewhere, Sora and Zanth attempted to escape from the Imperium Palace but were recaptured by Rapton and the Claw Hunters. Sora was then returned to the Advanced Systems Lab where she was forced to make improvements to her Photacs.

I Will Be the Danger[]

Fleeing from the Imperium Prison, Lloyd, Wyldfyre, and the dragons they released fled into the City of Imperium. Uncoordinated and desperate to escape, the dragons began to run amok, inflicting collateral damage upon the city as well as terrorizing its inhabitants. In response to the escape, the Claws of Imperium were mobilized to recapture the dragons but Rapton and his modest forces were trampled by the dragons before they could deploy. The Claws were then recalled to Advanced Systems Lab where they were equipped with Photacs to deal with the escaping dragons and confronted them outside of the Imperium Palace.

The Calm Inside[]

The battle between the dragons and the Photacs persisted outside the Imperium Palace, while Arin and Sora infiltrated the Security Station once more to gain access to the security logs and ascertain Riyu's status. Their investigation revealed that Riyu was being held captive within the palace, under the custody of Beatrix. Meanwhile, Kai and Nya found themselves in a state of confusion as they were at the Monastery of Imperium. Their bewilderment was soon dispelled when they heard the voice of Wu's ghost, who guided them to Zane's stasis pod.

Arin and Sora infiltrated the palace, evading the Imperium Guards. To their surprise, they discovered the Imperians' scheme to siphon Riyu's dragon energy. Informed of the situation and the distressing attacks inflicted upon the dragons by the Photacs, Lloyd rallied the dragons and Wyldfyre, initiating a assault on the Imperium Palace. In response, Beatrix and Ras promptly left the palace to join the fray with the Claws of Imperium. In the palace, Arin and Sora attempted to free Riyu from his cage. However, their plan was stopped by Dr. LaRow and Jordana, who caught them and destroyed their communicators. Meanwhile, the battle outside momentarily ceased when the Monastery of Imperium emerged from the ground, heralding the arrival of Kai, Nya, and Zane.

The Battle of the Second Monastery[]

The Battle of the Second Monastery raged on in the City of Imperium, with the Claws continuing to dominate the battleground thanks to their impervious Photacs. The ninja and dragons were ultimately forced to retreat into the Monastery of Imperium while Sora and Arin were confronted by Ras inside the palace. Empress Beatrix then ordered for Rapton and the Claw Hunters to tear open the gates of the monastery.

Inside the monastery, Lloyd and Zane descended into the city's sewer systems until they reached a chamber beneath the city that held the captive Source Dragon of Energy. The Source Dragon anointed Lloyd as a Conduit, granting him the power necessary to allow the Monastery of Imperium's portal gate to transport a large number of dragons. The dragons then fled through the portal gate to Ninjago just as Rapton and his forces tore through the monastery gates, only to discover it was devoid of any dragons. Elsewhere, Sora and Arin managed to defeat Ras by utilizing his short temper against him, tricking him into hurling Sora into the control panel for Riyu's energy cage. With Riyu freed and Sora empowered, the girl buried Ras in the pieces of Riyu's former cage before deactivating all of the Claws' Photacs. Reuniting with the other ninja inside the Monastery of Imperium, they all fled through the portal gate together.

In the aftermath of the battle and the loss of all their captured dragons, Empress Beatrix had Ras stripped of his title and imprisoned for his failure. She then assembled her Empress Mech and swore vengeance on the ninja for humiliating her, declaring she would now enter the fray of battle herself.

The Temple of the Dragon Cores[]

Days following the Battle of the Second Monastery, Empress Beatrix broadcasted a message to her citizens, insisting that any and all rumors of escaped dragons and power shortages were false. In fact, she also denounced anyone who would entertain such rumors, branding them as traitors. When the broadcast finished, Beatrix asked Dr. LaRow about the current status of the kingdom, to which the latter replied that they have faced tremendous power shortages following the battle. Frustrated by this news, Beatrix placed blame on the ninja and swore vengeance.

Gangs of the Sea[]

Inside the palace, Empress Beatrix deployed Rapton and the Claw Hunters to retrieve the three Dragon Cores.

Land of Lost Things[]

Dr. LawRow and her drones returned to the City of Imperium after successfully retrieving the Yellow Dragon Core from the Land of Lost Things.

The Administration[]

With two of the Dragon Cores within the City of Imperium, the ninja were left with no choice but to plan an attack on the city to retrieve both cores. Arriving in the outskirts of the city, the ninja discussed their plan of attack.

Absolute Power[]

Empress Beatrix broadcasted a new announcement to the citizens of Imperium, denouncing the outside world as "chaos and madness." Following the conclusion of her message, Beatrix summoned her subordinates to commence testing of their new MergeQuake weapon. When the test ended in failure, an enraged Beatrix stormed over to the security station where she was berated by Ras. Meanwhile outside, the ninja lured out and ambushed a group of Imperium Guards to gain access to the city. Although their presence was soon spotted, they were saved by the Imperium Teen Resistance Force who led the ninja away to safety.

We Are All Dragons[]

With the held of the Imperium Teen Resistance Force, the ninja evaded capture and planned their next moves against Empress Beatrix. Kai and Wyldfyre split off to destroy the Imperium Armory (while also destroying the Shoulder pad storage in the process); Lloyd, Nya, and Zane made their way to the palace to retrieve the two dragon cores in Beatrix's possession; and finally, Percival led Sora, Arin, and Riyu to the Imperium Broadcast Tower to expose all of the Good Empress' lies. When the third team completed their mission, the people of Imperium rose up in revolt against Beatrix, marking the start of the Liberation of Imperium.

The Power Within[]

Beatrix uses the MergeQuake weapon to create MergeQuakes, sending innocent Imperians into the rifts, including Kai, Wyldfyre, Riyu, Percival, and Rapton. When her parents egotistically continue their support for Beatrix, Sora achieves her True Potential and dismantles the weapon before Arin sent Beatrix into a MergeQuake rift she recently created.

After Lloyd used the Dragon Cores to stop the MergeQuake Storm and freed the Source Dragon, the Kingdom of Imperium started a democracy, renaming itself New Imperium and was in talks of forming a council. While she attempted to leave the kingdom, Ras recruits Jordana on behalf of his master for her efforts in draining the Source Dragon, and currently had a small sample remaining.

Shattered Dreams[]

Percival deliberated on ways to improve the City of Imperium in Beatrix's absence, proposing the establishment of public gardens and sustainable energy sources, as well as opening the kingdom to outlanders. Unexpectedly, Euphrasia arrived, having crash-landed outside the kingdom and seeking aid from Percival due to a fractured leg.

The Vault of Focus[]

The city was invaded by Nokt and the Spectral Dragonians to steal the souls of the citizens for Thunderfang's ritual to become a Source Dragon. When Kai, Cole, and Frak arrive, they learn from Percival that the Advance Science Labs had designed improved Prismatic Blades to permanently destroy the Spectral Dragonians. Kai and Frak then have their Prismatic Blades upgraded into Reveal Blades while Cole battles Nokt, only for his soul to be stolen as well. Although they are able to drive back the attack and damage Nokt's magical flute, freeing some of the souls, Nokt manages to escape with the remaining souls he stole.

A Wonder of the Merged Lands[]

The City and the Energy Barrier have been flickering in this area. The Imperians are holding in line to get the ID ready for the new household battery. But the city caused the blackout until it fixed the energy; the city's power was restored, and everyone was cheering. Suddenly, they’ve been attacked by Mutation Monsters in the city.

• In "The Power Within," the city was momentarily called "New Imperium" because it transitioned into a democratic system. However, the name was dropped in Season 2 since all the characters continued to call the city Imperium. This is reminiscent of how Ninjago City was renamed New Ninjago City following the Final Battle, but went back to the original name in "The Greatest Fear of All."
• According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the Kingdom of Imperium had long been a secluded society, but Beatrix ascending the throne intensified the oppressive nature of the kingdom significantly. This was evident in "Absolute Power" when Levo, displaying contempt, mistreated Ras for being an outlander.^[4]
• It shares its name with Marvel's Imperium organization from Earth-668B.
