Background[]

At some point during Zeras' childhood, Mei and Zilvar discussed the tremors that were happening in the Wyldness, threatening the lives of their kind. She confidently believed the words of the Ancients of the Wyldness that everything will soon be alright, to which Zilvar, unfaithful, rejected. He urged her that they had to find a new and safe home for not only them but also the cubs of the tribe, insisting that relying on words written on stones wouldn't guarantee their safety nor the one of their future cub should they ever decide to have one. As they were comforting each other, another tremor caught them off guard, prompting Zilvar to start his journey in the Forest of Spirits in order to seek answers and find a new place for them to live. She nevertheless let him leave while she stayed behind to watch over the cubs.

Unfortunately, when the latter came back, he found their village in ruins and ashes. Desperately searching for days for another trace of a possible survivor, Zilvar quickly understood that Mei and the cubs (except for Zeras) did not make it, leaving him heartbroken and guilty for failing them.

A Frozen Scar[]

Zilvar spoke about Mei while recounting the fate of his tribe to the ninja, explaining how he had inscribed the names of those who had perished on the memorial stone before leaving the Wyldness. Later in the Never Kingdoms, Zilvar took in the beauty of the land, reflecting on how much Mei would have appreciated it.

All Wizards Are Liars[]

Zilvar dreamed of a joyful day with his tribe, where he and Mei played a ball game with their peers. However, the dream quickly turned into a nightmare as tremors shook the ground, creating deep chasms that many tribe members, including Mei, fell to their deaths.

The Summit[]

Upon learning that the plan to revive the tribe involved capturing the Source Dragons, Zilvar refused. However, when Zeras (now known as Ras) brought up Mei, Zilvar was taken aback. He insisted that Mei had died with a pure heart and believed that supporting Ras and his master in their blasphemous scheme to control the Sources would dishonor her memory.

Desperately Seeking Sora[]

As Zilvar neared the edge of the Abyss of Eternal Night to discard the Weapon of Desolation, it took control of him. He was tormented by memories of the Tiger Tribe's demise. A vision of Mei appeared, questioning why he hadn't saved her as she plummeted. This caused Zilvar to yield to the weapon's corruption.

Etymology[]

• The name Mei is written in katakana (メイ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (芽依, 芽生 or 芽衣), it could possibly mean:
  • 芽依 - "bud, sprout" (芽) (me) and "rely on" (依) (i).
  • 芽生 - "bud, sprout" (芽) (me) and "life, living" (生) (i).
  • 芽衣 - "bud, sprout" (芽) (me) and "" (衣) (i).

Trivia[]

• She appeared to have facial pink markings similar to Ras', however it is unknown if they were related.
