Overview
- This article is about the region. For the episode, see The Spectral Lands.
The Spectral Lands are a region within the Merged Lands. It is the result of the fusion of the Cursed Realm and the Departed Realm, which combined to form a single, unified land due to the Merge. Upon death, all souls from across the realms arrive here before moving on to the next stage of being, beyond existing in any of the known realms.
History
History[]
Background[]
Following the demise of the Preeminent, the Cursed Realm was relocated to the Departed Realm. Consequently, when the Merge occurred, the two realms fused together, resulting in the creation of the Spectral Lands, one of the new lands formed in the Merged Realms. Most departed souls that existed before the Merge moved on. Morro chose to stay in the Spectral Lands, where he guided departed souls as they moved onto the after life and protect them from Soul Suckers.
The Land of Monsters[]
After attempting to eat Kai, the Kebaber was killed when the latter managed to slice apart its body with his fire sword. As a result its soul was sent to the Spectral Lands.

False Light[]

Now free, Kai proceeded to finish off the monster. With its death, the Gimon-Ogu's soul was sent to the Spectral Lands.
Kai's Monstrous Journey[]
The Ruins![]
After being killed by Kai and Bolsen, the soul of the Monster pig was sent to the Spectral Lands.

Dragons Rising, Season 3[]
The Spectral Lands[]
After many days of travel, Arin and Ras were finally able to reach the borders of the Spectral Lands. With the latter too weak to stand and the ground too rocky for the former to carry him safely, Arin decided to venture into the Spectral Lands alone to find the the healing elixir from the Well of the Lost. Before he went however, Ras provided him with the Returning Blade, insisting that the former would need it in the Spectral Lands.
Arin would remain on edge as he entered the cold and dismal lands, wary of any departed beings he might encounter. After some time, he encountered Morro and briefly prepared to engage in battle with the Ghost Ninja before realizing that Morro was only trying to defend him from an invisible creature known as a Soul Sucker. After warding off the beast by striking the nodes on its back, Morro guided Arin to the Well of the Lost as they spoke about these strange lands, the afterlife, and their experiences with their masters. On the way out, the duo were attacked once more by three more Soul Suckers, causing Arin to briefly drop his vial of elixir. Meanwhile, Ras, having spotted the vial began to desperately crawl towards it, entering the Spectral Lands with the last of his strength while unknowingly marking himself as an easier target for the Soul Suckers. As the creatures converged upon Ras and began absorbing his soul, Arin managed to infuse the Returning Blade with Spinjitzu Energy as he hurled it at the beasts, striking them in their nodes and seemingly defeating them. With Ras safe, Arin quickly poured some of the elixir into his mouth and helped carry him out of the Spectral Lands while Morro returned to continue his duties as a guardian and guide for departed souls.
The Shatter Dragon[]
During his fight with the ninja, Thunderfang was struck by the elixir from the Well of the Lost, thrown by Arin. This led to Thunderfang disintegrating, sending him and the souls of the Forbidden Five to the Spectral Lands. There, he met Morro, who mistook him for a Departed Soul needing assistance. However, when four Soul Suckers appeared, Thunderfang absorbed them instead, leaving Morro astonished and insisting it was impossible. Thunderfang retorted that anything could happen in the afterlife before ultimately absorbing Morro as well.
The Hollow Ones[]
After Egalt died of the Wasting Sickness, his soul was sent to the Spectral Lands, where it was absorbed by Thunderfang.[2]
Casket of Bones[]
After Drix attacked the Administration to seize the souls of the Administration Agents, he went back to the Spectral Lands, where he transferred all the souls he collected into the Well of the Lost, where Thunderfang and the rest of the Forbidden Five watched him.
Under the Light of a Mechanical Moon[]
Following his fight with Arin and Sora in the Underworld, Ras found someone else to sacrifice to the Casket of Bones so he can power the Forge of the Forgotten and create a Source Dragon Icon, leading to their soul being sent to the Spectral Lands where it either moved on or was absorbed by Thunderfang.
As Zarkt absorbed souls in the Land of Lee, Rox arrived back in the Spectral Lands to transfer more stolen souls into the Well of the Lost to power up Thunderfang's ritual, which pleased her master, who comments his time has never been closer and laughs.
Later, the ninja and Jay decided to visit the Spectral Lands to see if Thunderfang is there. As they searched for Thunderfang, Arin noticed that the Soul Suckers and the departed ninja he met aren't around. Then, the ninja and Jay saw Thunderfang from far away in a ghostly state, much to their shock. During this, Zarkt returned from the Land of Lee with his soul collection, Rox, Kur, and Drix flank him and watched as he transferred his souls to the Well, unaware the ninja and Jay were watching from a distance. Unfortunately, the ninja was attacked by the Spectral Dragonians, causing them to flee. During the chase, Sprite appeared, leading the ninja and Jay to the Monastery of the Spectral Lands. Using the monastery's portal gate, the ninja and Jay arrived at the City of Temples.
The Vault of Focus[]
Nokt returned to the Spectral Lands after losing most of his souls from fighting Kai and Frak's Reveal Blades in Imperium and filled the Well of the Lost with the stolen souls he still has, but it wasn't enough, causing Thunderfang to scold him for his failure. Rox then appeared and transferred her stolen souls into the well, which erupted with power, destroying the Well of the Lost and the Five watched as their unwanted master slowly becomes a Source Dragon.
For Whom the Bell Tolls[]
In the Spectral Lands, Arin and Lloyd arrived through the Monastery of the Spectral Lands, with their new Jet Mech and Spinjitzu Battle Mech. They see Thunderfang continuing his evolution, with spikes and a huge bladed claw emerging from his left arm. During this process, he sensed someone nearing the Arc Dragon of Focus’s resting places and promptly informed the Forbidden Five. He realized the ninja are trying to awaken his mortal enemy.
When Doves Cry[]
Arin and Lloyd go through the Spectral Lands to get to the Well of the Lost so they can use the Unbidden Storm to summon the Arc Dragon of Focus when the two halves are awakened. However, Nokt, Rox, and Drix noticed them and led many Spectral Dragonians to attack them. Before they were cornered, Lloyd remembered that Bleckt told them of a cavern under the Well of the Lost and created a tunnel to move under the Well. After they fell down the tunnel, they found Unbidden Storm damaged, thinking that they ruined their only chance to stop Thunderfang, as Thunderfang continued to get powerful and laughed.
Chaos Reigns[]
As Thunderfang continues his ritual, Lloyd and Arin attempts to recharge the Unbidden Storm so they can summon the Arc Dragon of Focus. Thanks to Arin's Object Spinjitzu, the stone is restored so the Arc Dragon of Focus can battle Thunderfang. When the Shatter Dragon noticed the Arc Dragon, he thought it was a sign that the Source Dragons are definitely afraid of him. The two battle, with Lloyd and Arin discovering they are in control of the Arc Dragon. The two manage to defeat Thunderfang by destroying the Well of the Lost, defeating the dragon ghost and releasing a surge of soul energy that returned the stolen souls to the Hollow Ones and allowed Egalt and Morro's souls to escape.[3][4] In this process, the Spectral Dragonians passed on and the Forbidden Five dissipated.
The Arc Dragon of Focus thanked Lloyd and Arin for guiding it, but warned them that its masters wouldn't be happy with what they did and prayed that the Council of Sources were forgiving before splitting into its two halves and returning to its slumber.
Dragons Rising, Season 4[]
Seed and Soil[]
After Rontu temporally died from the injuries she sustained during her fight with Ras, her soul was sent to the Spectral Lands, where it manifested as a ghost while Morro and Egalt watched. There, she was reunited with Egalt and had a brief conversation with her lover, who told her to not lose hope. After her mortal body was fed healing soup by Alfonzo Frohicky and Geo, her soul returned to her body, bringing her back.
Appearance
Appearance[]
The Spectral Lands are characterized by a spooky atmosphere, with dim lighting and an ever-present mist. All of the lands resemble an old village on a mountain with twisted trees, and slightly damaged eerie houses, giving it a forsaken appearance. It is also always night in these lands with a huge glowing moon.
On a hilltop near a big cherry blossom tree is the Well of the Lost, which contains a mysterious elixir that can either help the departed move on or heal the living.
The Spectral Lands are encircled with a mystical border that the departed and Soul suckers cannot cross. This boundary serves as a barrier, preventing souls from leaving the lands and ensuring that the departed remain there.

Trivia[]
- Most of the houses/cabins in the Spectral Lands use modified models from the houses seen in the cliffs of the City of Temples.
- Even those who have made peace with their mortal lives and have no unfinished business must still go to the Spectral Lands before they move on.[8]
- As seen with Rontu, individuals may chose to return to their mortal bodies if it is not their time yet.
- Chris "Doc" Wyatt viewed the Departed Realm a "Sartre-like NO EXIT situation" and wanted the Spectral Lands to follow a more Hamlet-esque "undiscovered country" approach.[9]
