The Fire Tribes were an alliance of ancient tribes that inhabit Chima atop Mount Cavora, consisting of the Phoenix and the Feline Tribes.[1]

The Phoenix were created by the Mother Sun and were sent to Chima to bring civilization to its primitive inhabitants.[2] They established their city on Mount Cavora, where they took on the sacred duty of guarding Fire Chi. Their mission was to remain in Chima as its protectors until the land achieved a state of complete and lasting balance.[3][4] However, one of their own students, Fangar, became consumed by a thirst for power and led the Hunters in a fierce assault against the Phoenix, starting the First Hunter War.[2] During this, Sir Fangar orchestrated a surprise attack on the Tiger village while it was left vulnerable, forcing the survivors to seek refuge at Mount Cavora. Feeling responsible for the Tigers' plight, the Phoenix welcomed them and gave the Tiger Tribe Fire Chi to empower them in their battle against the Hunters.
In the aftermath of their village's destruction, the tiger became an elite unit unknown as the Royal Tiger Guards, with Tormak as the leader. Each member of the tribe was rigorously trained in combat from a young age, which ultimately made them some of the most formidable fighters in all of Chima.[5] Tormak became as a trusted advisor to Fluminox, becoming one of the key defenders of the Phoenix. Amidst the war, the Hunters destroyed a village belonging to an ancient Lion Tribe, leaving only a young cub alive.[6] Tormak raised the cub as his own and named her Li'Ella, integrating her into the Fire Tribes.[7] As the threat from the Hunters escalated over the years, the Phoenix determined that the only way to stop the invasion was to perform the Great Illumination, intending to restore balance to Chima and healing the Hunters.[2] However, Fluminox hesitated, fearing for the future of his infant son, Flinx, who would be left fatherless. Consequently, the Illumination did not achieve its intended perfection, resulting in the Hunters being frozen and imprisoned in the Gorge of Eternal Depth instead. Since then, the Fire Tribes have remained hidden in Mount Cavora for thousands of years, away from the new Tribes of Chima.[4]
