The Royal Tiger Guards,[1] also known as the Royal Phoenix Guards[1] were an elite unite of warriors from the Tiger Tribe, led by Tormak.[1]

Background[]
During the first Hunter War,[1] the Tunnel Cats fought against the Hunters, chasing them through the caverns.[2] Desperate for victory and blinded by his rage, Sir Fangar sent a group of his army to the Tiger village while it was unprotected, planning to make the tribe fall. However, this showed the tribe what could happen if whose hands Chima could fall into, if they did not win. The Tigers who survived the attacks fled to Mount Cavora, where their responsibility was recognized by the Phoenix, who gave Fire Chi to the Tunnel Cats to make them fight the Hunters more effectively. Meanwhile, the rest of the Tiger Tribe decided train the art of fighting to defend themselves, eventually surpassing their previous protectors, Phoenix and started the Royal Tiger Guards.[1]
After, the first Hunter War, Tormak raised Li'Ella, his adopted daughter, in the Phoenix Temple.[3] During this time, Tormak started an event called Claw Week, where he would gather a group of aspiring Tigers who wants to join the Royal Tiger Guards, and brings them on a little tour of Chima to see if they can move to the actual training for the Royal Tiger Guards.[1]
Eventually, the Hunters' attacks turned Chima into a lifeless wasteland. Those who survived the attacks went to the Phoenix Temple, where they were protected by the Phoenix. To stop the Hunters and reset all life in Chima to its original primal state, the Phoenix Elders decided to perform the Great Illumination, wearing the Fire Wing Harnesses and flying to the heart of Mount Cavora.[4] However, as they flied to the heart of Cavora, Fluminox, who was supposed to be the ninth Phoenix, decided to stay behind to look after his son, Flinx, who has still a baby during the Illumination.[5] As the eight Phoenix Elders sacrificed themselves by using the power of the Fire Wing Harnesses, Chima was renewed to its former glory, restoring all wildlife that was killed during the Hunter's conquest to their original forms.[4] However, since Fluminox did not attend the Great Illumination, it was imperfect,[3] causing the Hunters to fall into the Gorge of Eternal Depth that was opened up by the Illumination, as well as pushing Mount Cavora to the sky. The Great Illumination left a powerful energy field, keeping the Phoenix skyward and protecting the Mount Cavora from intrusion,[4] as well as keeping the Feline Tribes from aging.[6]
