History[]

Background[]

Flinx was just a baby phoenix during the Hunter Wars, living with his father, Fluminox. At that time, the Phoenix aimed to perform the Great Illumination, a ritual meant to heal Chima and eliminate the Hunters' threat. This ritual required nine Phoenix, and the Elders took their Fire Wing Harnesses to fly into Mount Cavora's heart. Fluminox was meant to be the ninth Phoenix needed to complete the Illumination. However, when it was his turn to join the Elders, he heard Flinx's cry and chose to stay with his son instead of completing the ritual, unable to abandon him. As a result, the Great Illumination was flawed, leaving Fluminox with deep guilt. Yet, by raising Flinx, he also found solace in witnessing his son's growth.

Trial by Fire[]

When Fluminox decided that Laval and Cragger needed to prove themselves worthy of receiving Fire Chi, he ordered them to undergo the Trial by Fire. As Laval and Cragger struggled through a chamber filled with flames, they suddenly heard Flinx calling for help. Laval immediately assumed that the young phoenix was trapped in the fire and jumped in to rescue him. Cragger protested, but eventually followed. Eris also flew into the flames to help them, despite Fluminox warning her not to interfere.

Inside the flames, the heroes discovered Flinx, who was completely unharmed by the fire. He revealed that the entire situation had been arranged as part of their trial. Flinx admitted, however, that turning the test into a practical joke had been his own idea, remarking that his father had no sense of humour. Although Laval and Cragger were surprised and somewhat annoyed, Laval was happy to meet Flinx and asked him to help them complete the rest of the trial. Flinx agreed and used his natural control over fire to extinguish the flames blocking their path. Beyond the flames, the heroes discovered a dangerous canal of lava with a torch waiting on the opposite side. Laval and Cragger had to cross the canal on a small floating rock and light the torch.

Flinx provided them with golden shields, which they used as paddles to steer themselves across the lava. As they made their way forward, the Legend Beasts appeared and unleashed their fire roar at them. With Flinx, Fluminox, and Tormak watching, Laval and Cragger continued across the canal despite the Legend Beasts' attacks. Laval and Cragger reached the other side and ignited the torch, completing the final challenge. Flinx happily congratulated them on their victory before roasting marshmallows over the flames.

Appearance[]

Flinx's feather are red. The detail depicting the head shows head feathers and a yellow curved beak. Eyes are visible in the holes. Flinx wears exactly the same clothes as all phoenix: red, with a medallion for Chi, bordered with gold. Flinx's legs are small, since he is still a boy. He wears armor over his body, on the front of which there is a hole for the fiery CHI, and on the back - lights depicting small wings.

Although he’s been around for thousands of years, Flinx still acts like a kid, and that’s how he likes it. Despite efforts by his father, Fluminox, to get him to grow up and accomplish something, Flinx is happy to just hang out and have fun. Flinx is notorious for not finishing anything he starts, from big projects to tying his shoes. Part of the problem is that he already knows he is one of the most powerful beings around, and he doesn’t want to deal with the responsibility of that. Fluminox and Laval hope to help Flinx “find his spark.”^[1]

Fearless Young Bird[]

Flinx may be thousands of years old, but in the ancient Phoenix Tribe he's still considered a kid. And he'd rather have fun than worry about Chima. After all, his father, Fluminox, is serious enough for the both of them!^[2]
