The Dragon Core is possessed by Lava-tides, who force the Ninja to clean up the mess Wyldfyre created when she lived here. Meanwhile, Zane needs a part to study the Monastery's teleportation gate and follows Mr. Frohicky into Crossroads where they are hosting a Zane Day celebration.[2][3]

Plot

Plot[]

A heated handshake

A heated handshake

Kai and Wyldfyre try to figure out how to escape from the Walls of Punishment. Some Greenbone Warriors watch them from the edge, having placed the two in the pit for allegedly stealing their gems. They both deny having done so and, using each other, escape the pit, where Wyldfyre admits to having stolen them as part of a prank, and returns them. The Bone King allows the two to safely leave on the promise of never returning, which is a promise to be sealed by a handshake. However, Wyldfyre instead burns his hand during the handshake, as she and Kai escape from the angered warriors on Heatwave, where Kai reprimands her for her actions.

The Lava-Tides

The Lava-Tides

Wyldfyre explains that she is friends with rock-like people called the Lava-Tides, who have the Dragon Core they seek. As it turns out though, the Lava-Tides greatly despise her for her “pranks" on their society, which include coating in it rotten fruit and defacing their sacred statue. They refuse to give them the core, until Kai offers that the two will undo all of Wyldfyre's pranks. The Lava-Tides accept this condition in exchange for the core.

Zane and Mr. Frohicky conduct a search in the Crossroads for a Wyconium coil, which is essential for repairing the scan device capable of analyzing the portal gates. Their investigation leads them to discover that Kreel, the new proprietor of the junkyard in the Crossroads by winning a lice game, possesses the required component. However, due to financial constraints, they are unable to purchase it and are thrown out as a result. Mr. Frohicky resolves to accompany Zane to the Crossroads, hoping to find another way to get the wyconium coil.

The Core retrieved

The Core retrieved

In the meantime, Kai and Wyldfyre undo all of the wreckage she caused to the Lava-Tides, though they quickly reveal that this too was a prank to make Wyldfyre clean up their village, and that they have no intention of giving either of them the core. As such, they drop it in a hazardous pit, and leave. Unable to lose the core, Kai and a quite reluctant Wyldfyre jump in after it, barely surviving multiple death traps on the way. Wyldfyre eventually retrieved it from a pile of Wyldmelons, though they are infested with Death Wasps, who chase the two to the surface, though are trapped underground when Kai covers the entry point of the pit.

Zane receives a gift card

Zane receives a gift card

At the Crossroads, Zane and Mr. Frohicky discover they are celebrating Zane Day, in honor of the former. Hearing of a competition that revolves around emulating his own persona with a big cash reward, Zane participates, ultimately securing a place among the trio of finalists, alongside Lobbo and Tope-Epot. Despite Zane's efforts, he encounters unexpected setbacks, resulting in Lobbo being bestowed with the coveted title of victor. Nevertheless, Zane's perseverance is rewarded with a commendable third place finish, earning a gift card to Kreel's Junkyard, which will allow Zane to procure the wyconium coil.

Dorama arrives

Dorama arrives

Meanwhile, Kai and Wyldfyre celebrate having obtained the core, though this is short-lived when they are ambushed by Dorama and his stagehands, who steal the core and prepare to fight them. Kai wonders if the other ninja are having better luck than he is. As he says this, Nya and Sora make their way to the supposed location of the Dragon Core they are after, but find the coffin it was housed in is empty.

Trivia

Trivia[]

Cultural references[]

  • The dial-up effect sounds Tope-Epot makes is the sound of the common sound effect "Dial Up Internet".
  • The episode's title is a reference to the phrase "wildly inappropriate."
  • Zane finishing third in the Zane-a-like contest is similar to the popular folklore that Charlie Chaplin once entered a Charlie Chaplin lookalike contest, where he finished third.

Continuity[]

  • The fedora and trench coat Zane wears is similar to the one in "Ninjago Confidential."
  • This is the first time a named character from the original series has appeared in Dragons Rising besides the ninja, that being Gulch from Season 13: Master of the Mountain.
  • This marks the first episode of the Dragons Rising that doesn't feature Lloyd, Arin, and Riyu.
  • The scene with Nya and Sora flying their dragons through the clouds is very similar to the intro of Season 6: Skybound.
  • According to Frohicky, Zane is the second fastest person to grow a mustache, the first being Gweeg, a friend of Frohicky who has yet to be seen in the series but this episode marks his first mention.
  • This marks first episode of Dragons Rising where P.I.X.A.L. makes an appearance, albeit in the form of a photograph.
  • Zane holding and caressing P.I.X.A.L.'s photograph is similar to how P.I.X.A.L. holds and hugs a photograph of her and Zane after he was banished in the Never-Realm.[5][6][7]

Errors[]

  • It is unknown how Gulch didn't recognize Zane since he looks and sounds exactly the same as the last time Gulch saw him.
    • It could simply be that it had been several years since the events of Master of the Mountain, plus the suit Zane wears in this episode may have something to do with that as well.
  • Based on overall score, Tope-Epot should've won the Zane-a-like contest.
  • Sora wasn't credited in the credits, instead Sabrina Pitre is only credited as the Emcee.
  • When Nya and Sora find the crate with the Dragon Core, Sora is missing her headphones.
  • When Nya and Sora walk up the stairs to the crate, Nya is missing her spear on her back.
