We Are All Dragons is the nineteenth episode of the first season of Ninjago: Dragons Rising.

Synopsis

Synopsis[]

To expose Empress Beatrix's mistreatment of dragons to the naïve citizens of Imperium, the Ninja will need help... from a man on the inside.[1]

Extended: The Ninja battle the Empress in the streets if the Imperium as Jordana uses the Dragon Cores to bring her MergeQuake weapon online. Kai and Wyldfyre take out the armory, and Sora and Arin join the resistance on their mission to turn the people against Beatrix. The leaders of the resistance are revealed![2]

The Imperium Teen Resistance Force leads the Ninja along the kingdom in order to reach their hideout. Arin questions Percival Tartigrade, who had been doing some research on dragons since their last encounter before Lloyd has Kai get Wyldfyre to hum quietly, which she does when he joins in. Lloyd asks Percival if he saw the explosion, which he replied everyone saw it come from the Advanced Systems Lab. Before they continue on, Beatrix in her Empress Mech arrives with some Claws of Imperium and declares the teens traitors for siding with the Ninja before they charge.

Nya, Sora, and Riyu approach Imperium on Jiro and Zanth respectively as Sora started to express her dislike for the city's usage of dragon energy, as well as being shunned by her parents, to which Nya hopes the former can reconcile with them, but she refuses before they notice the battle inside.

Inside the city, when the Ninja attack with their Elemental Powers, it proved useless as the mech is impervious to them and Beatrix proceeds to gloat how nothing is superior to her before the Ninja notice the girls and dragons, which they were able to take down the barrier with Jiro's armor and Lightning blast before they join in on the fight. During the fight, Sora tells Lloyd that the core she was looking for was stolen which was why she and Nya came while he told her that they stole the core from Kai and Wyldfyre, and that the one he, Zane, and Arin had obtained was back at the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Jiro then tells Riyu that he and Zanth will hold Beatrix and the hunters off while he, the Ninja, and Imperium Teenage Resistance Force make their escape, which Arin understands before they jump into a secret passageway disguised as a dumpster.

While the attack was occurring, Jordana has the technicians begin draining the captured Source Dragon, which causes the console to overload.

While making their way to the teens' hideout, Nya discovers Zane's stasis pod from the Monastery of Imperium, and Percival explains that it was stripped apart, including the portal gate, which was why pieces of it were in the Land of Lost Things. Reaching the hideout, Percival explains they built it upon reconning around for security cameras and that there are more members around the city, managing to obtain an access card to the lab. Sora then brings up how he hauled Riyu to Beatrix before explaining many saw the Ninja free the dragons from Imperium and Beatrix made a false statement, saying they were recaptured, so Percival and the teens ran an investigation, initially discovering Beatrix’s involvement in murdering her predecessor and father with Ras' help and made it look like an accident. Along with Zeatrix and other Imperians disappearing or being imprisoned for opposing her. Percival then showed an unreleased footage with Beatrix confessing, which they plan to use to expose her after they had been studying dragons. Percival then explains he has a mole that'll help broadcast the footage and turn the city against Beatrix before he asks Sora for her assistance, due to her discovering the truth with her own eyes and believe it to be fate that she'd help, which she accepts before Arin volunteers to join them.

Meanwhile, Beatrix manages to take down Jiro and Zanth, disarming the former in the process.

With the lab on lockdown because of the Dragon Core explosion, Kai and Wyldfyre take the opportunity to blow up their armory as a diversion. However, due to Wyldfyre reading the map upside down, they end up destroying a shoulder pad storage facility instead.

Arin, Sora, Riyu, and Percival reach the broadcast tower, where they discover Percival's mole is none other than Rapton, who refuted any association with Beatrix, expressing his strong disapproval of her. He disclosed that his passion lied in hunting dragons, but Beatrix's relentless obsession with getting revenge on the ninja had blinded her to everything else. Rapton confessed that when he failed to grab the Dragon Core from the Mother Garden, he had a moment of clarity and began to question why he was aiding Beatrix in her quest for vengeance, knowing that it could jeopardize the Merged Realms. He emphasized that he did not want to destroy the world as he loves living in it. After realizing that he was on the wrong side, Rapton heard about Percival's resistance, whom built the fake Dragon Core. The intention was for Rapton to present the fake core to Beatrix, hoping that the MergeQuake weapon would do nothing, ultimately causing her to abandon her destructive pursuits. Unfortunately, the plan did not unfold as intended, resulting in the explosion at the lab. Reluctantly forming a truce with him, Arin and Sora let Rapton use his access for the broadcast, until they're interrupted by Dorama, only for him to be knocked out by Riyu.

Lloyd, Zane, and Nya make their way to the lab, only to be caught by Beatrix, who starts to attack them.

Dr. LaRow tries to warn Jordana

Back at the source dragon's holding cell, the draining continues to cause problems before Dr. LaRow shows up to mock Jordana for her rivalry against Sora, despite the latter not knowing who she was, making her order Imperium Guards to take Dr. LaRow away as she started to warn her about draining the dragon, but Jordana doesn't listen and orders for safety protocols to be removed and increase in extraction, overruling the scientists' concern as the drainage causes pain to the source dragon.

Kai educates Wyldfyre about the difference between rivers and power lines before they see the holo-screens project the footage that shows Beatrix speaking with Ras about how they should eliminate opposers like she did with her father and sister, to Beatrix’s shock as she had just defeated Lloyd, Zane, and Nya. Another piece of footage shows Beatrix and Dorama in the aftermath of broadcasting the false dragon recapture, calling the Imperians brainless and wouldn't stand any complaints about power shortages. Another piece of footage then shows Beatrix and Dr. LaRow arguing about extracting energy from Zanth, which upon being shown the dragon's torture. Upon seeing the cruel torture, the people start to oppose her.

Hearing their jeering, Sora soon makes a broadcast to the city, saying how they are powered by dragons as they are also living beings, which must not continue. She then goes on about how she was used for her work and threw her away when she couldn't control her, proclaiming herself a mindless beast, just as Beatrix sees everyone else as, but inspires them, saying they are stronger than she realizes, that they should rise up and be free, ending the speech with "We are all dragons!"

The Imperians start to rally against Beatrix with some scaring off many guards, and some throwing rocks at the hunters holding down Jiro and Zanth, freeing them. As some hunters prepare to enter the armory, Kai and Wyldfyre exit it, having set fire to the entire place to blow up all the weapons, to their satisfaction.

As the Imperians continue rallying against her, Beatrix retreats, trying to claim the footage was faked before being stopped by a giant crowd as two guards came between them. In her anger, she throws one of them into the crowd, to their shock before continuing to flee.

The Imperians then start to chant Sora's last sentence as she, Arin, Riyu, Rapton, and Percival watch from atop the broadcast tower. Ras hears it from his holding cell and sees two guards frustrated at Beatrix's deception, to his amusement.

With the guards taking off to deal with the armory fire, Lloyd, Zane, and Nya reach the lab, only for Beatrix to arrive with the MergeQuake weapon, using both cores and one Jordana managed to create before she fires into the sky, creating a MergeQuake rift.

  • Beatrix being exposed via TV broadcast is similar to what Marcia Jeffries did to expose Larry Rhodes in the 1957 film, "A Face in the Crowd".
  • Sora broadcasting out to Imperium to rise up against Beatrix is similar to Lucy's broadcast out to the citizens of Bricksburg to rise up against Lord Business in The Lego Movie.
