Overview
- For Source Dragon energy, see Dragon energy.
The Source Dragon of Energy is one of the seven Source Dragons. Hence his name, he represents the source of Energy, serving as the foundation for all the Elemental Powers related to his source.
History
History[]
Background[]
Among the seven Source Dragons, the Source Dragon of Energy helped maintain equilibrium across the realms of creation through the utilization of his life force. Known for his name, the Source Dragon became the primary source of energy by embodying energy for the realms,[6] leading to the formation of all Elemental Powers associated with it.[7] One day, the First Spinjitzu Master encountered the Source Dragon of Energy and his fellow companions, and implored them to share a portion of their dragon energy. This request was made with the intention of creating the Dragon Cores, which were used to prevent the Coalescence, a catastrophic occurrence that would result in the merging of the realms into a single world, caused by the influence of the Source Dragon energy.[8]
When Thunderfang, the dragon of Chaos, attacked the City of Temples after being rejected from the council of the Source Dragons, the council decided to send the mortal avatar of the Source Dragon of Focus, the Arc Dragon of Focus, to stop the Chaos dragon. After completing its task, the avatar of the Focus Source Dragon was split into two halves, which were put into a deep slumber.
In the following centuries, the Source Dragon at one point became aware of Lloyd through someone who spoke of the Green Ninja's loyalty, but the Source Dragon had doubts about the person's claim.[7]
At some point before the Merge,[9] Ras called upon the Source Dragon of Energy by using the Icon of the Source Dragon of Energy and captured him with the help of Imperium, which possessed the advanced technology required for such a feat.[10][11] To contain the creature, Imperium constructed a massive glass sphere capable of confining him. Positioned beneath the kingdom, the Source Dragon became an unparalleled source of power for the city. However, the confinement led to instability within all the realms. Luckily, the sphere neutralized a significant portion of the Source Dragon's power, preventing the realms from facing destruction.[12]
When the Merge occurred, the Source Dragon of Energy's influence over the Merged Realms gave birth to a new Elemental Power, Propulsion.[13]
Dragons Rising, Season 1[]
The Merge: Part 2[]
After Ras informed her that their plan to reveal the Ninja worked, Empress Beatrix visited the Source Dragon of Energy and gloated to him that soon the other Source Dragons would join him and Imperium would have enough dragon power to rule over all the Merged Realms.
The Battle of the Second Monastery[]
Lloyd and Zane came across the Source Dragon of Energy while sneaking underneath the Imperium Palace, who remained trapped within a luminous sphere as he continued to serve as the sole power source for the kingdom. The Source Dragon, cognizant of the fact that his release would result in the annihilation of the Merged Realms, cautioned the two against freeing him. However, upon learning of Lloyd's previous acquisition of dragon energy, the Source Dragon imparted some of his own dragon energy to Lloyd, thereby enabling him to activate the portal gate, facilitating the escape of the other dragons. During the transfer, the Source Dragon granted Lloyd a vision, revealing six Source Dragon symbols and a burial ground containing the masks of the ninja.
We Are All Dragons[]
The Source Dragon of Energy roared in pain when Jordana and other Imperium scientists tried to extract his energy, extracting raw Source Dragon energy to create a new Dragon Core.
The Power Within[]
The Source Dragon of Energy questioned Lloyd's return. Lloyd explained that he wanted to set the Source Dragon free, who warned him about the consequences of doing so. Lloyd then revealed that he possessed the Dragon Cores, which would prevent the after-effects of the Source Dragon's freedom like it did with the MergeQuake Storm. The dragon recognized the Dragon Cores and emphasized the immense power they contained. Lloyd admitted that he didn't fully understand their significance. The Source Dragon revealed that all Elemental Powers originated from his kind, and questioned why Lloyd would sacrifice such power to free a being he didn't know. Lloyd simply believed it was the right thing to do. The Source Dragon expressed doubt about Lloyd, suggesting that someone was right about him. When Lloyd questioned who the Source Dragon was referring to, the Source Dragon diverted the conversation by inquiring about Riyu. Lloyd introduced Riyu, explaining that Riyu had eagerly anticipated meeting the Source Dragon. Acknowledging Riyu's presence, the Source Dragon recognized the uniqueness of the young dragon, emphasizing his special nature. The Source Dragon made a firm decision, acknowledging Lloyd's sacrifice of the Dragon Cores. As Lloyd raised the cores towards the sphere, the Source Dragon mentioned the possibility of encountering each other once more. Suddenly, a burst of light engulfed the area, causing the Source Dragon to disappear, finally liberated from his confinement.
Dragons Rising, Season 2[]
Beyond the Phantasm Cave[]
Following his release, the Source Dragon of Energy relayed the news of his freedom to the other Source Dragons, revealing that Lloyd was the one who had liberated him from his captivity. Seeking guidance on how to combat Shatterspin, Lloyd requested a vision from the Source Dragons, who appeared before him in their void. The Source Dragon of Motion sensed a looming threat from the mortals, while the Source Dragon of Strength reassured the group that humans were not capable of posing any real danger to them. The Source Dragon of Energy reflected on his past beliefs before being imprisoned. Expressing doubt about Lloyd's significance, the Source Dragon of Strength questioned his ability to stand against formidable foes. Recounting Lloyd's role as a conduit for his dragon energy, the Source Dragon of Energy emphasized the importance of the Green Ninja. Highlighting Lloyd's uniqueness and his plea for help, the Source Dragon of Energy appealed to the other Source Dragons to reconsider their stance on intervening in mortal affairs. After much deliberation, the Source Dragon of Motion relented and granted Lloyd a vision of Egalt, suggesting that the Dragon Masters could aid the ninja in his quest.
Dragons Rising, Season 3[]
Casket of Bones[]
To warn Lloyd about the coming danger, the Source Dragon of Energy sneakily brought him to the Council of Sources[14] when he was meeting with the other Source Dragons on the fate of the mortals, as they heard Thunderfang was gathering enough power to force his way onto the council. The Source Dragon of Energy sided with the Source Dragons of Motion and Flow to aid the mortals by releasing the Arc Dragon of Focus to permanently defeat him. When the Source Dragon of Focus said she will not help, the Source Dragon of Energy said she would if the council decides like the last time. But Focus expressed her regret of getting involved in mortal affairs and told Energy that she will not intervene even if the decision is made. But then, the Source Dragon of Strength realizes that Lloyd was listening to their conversation, which forced the ninja out of the council’s meeting.
Chaos Reigns[]
The ninja's choice to awaken the Arc Dragon of Focus to face Thunderfang resulted in a fallout among the Source Dragons. The Source Dragons of Motion, Flow, and Energy stayed behind while the Source Dragons of Strength, Life, and Focus decided to withdraw from the Council of Sources. The Source Dragon of Energy was disbelieved at his brethren's decision, emphasizing how unthinkable it is for a Source Dragon to step back from the council. The Source Dragon of Flow reminded Energy that the ninja had summoned the Arc Dragon of Focus without the council's consent, urging him to acknowledge the improbability of such an act. As the Source Dragon of Motion defended the ninja's actions, the Source Dragon of Energy raised concerns about the impending suffering that mortals would endure due to the disruption of the Elemental Powers, potentially unleashing chaos for Elemental Masters and their powers. Motion and Flow warned that with their promise to the First Spinjitzu Master broken, it could lead to the end of all cycles, indicating that the universe has never been in greater peril.

Other appearances and mentions
Other appearances and mentions[]
Dragons Rising, Season 1[]
The Temple of the Dragon Cores[]
The Kingdom of Imperium was in a dire situation as the rest of the dragons escaped, leaving them in the midst of an energy crisis. Despite this predicament, Beatrix remained unperturbed and pointed out that Imperium still possessed the Source Dragon of Energy. Dr. LaRow acknowledged the capture of the dragon but emphasized the difficulties involved in harnessing his energy. This discussion then led to the mention of Ras and his proposed alternative solution, which Beatrix strictly forbade from mentioning in her presence.
Absolute Power[]
Learning that Rapton's Dragon Core was a counterfeit, Beatrix suggested harnessing energy from the Source Dragon of Energy for a new Dragon Core. Dr. LaRow recognized the unsuccessful efforts of the Imperium scientists in extracting energy from the Source Dragon of Energy, cautioning that creating a new core with pure dragon energy could result in the Kingdom of Imperium's destruction.
Dragons Rising, Season 2[]
The Blood Moon[]
The Source Dragon of Energy was mentioned by Ras and Jordana after Ras used the Source Dragon's energy to open the Shadow Dojo.
Lloyd also mentioned the Source Dragon when he told Arin and Sora about his visions, he has received due to being a conduit of the dragon.
Force From the East[]
The Dragon Masters discovered that Ras had reassembled the Wolf Clan, but they emphasized that Ras could only obtain the Wolf Masks from the Shadow Dojo, which required Source Dragon energy to open. Sora mentioned that Ras had acquired the energy from the Source Dragon of Energy and why he had a motive to assist the Imperians in capturing him in the first place. Upon hearing this, the Dragon Masters expressed concern that if a Source Dragon was once captured, then true darkness was brought upon the world.
The Shape of Motion[]
The Source Dragon of Motion highlighted the threats facing the Source Dragons, particularly noting the capture and confinement of the Source Dragon of Energy by Ras and the Imperians that were unwittingly aiding his grand scheme.
Truth and Lies[]
Ras, unaware that Jordana was possessed by Rox, shared his plan to collect Elemental Powers at the Tournament of the Sources to create Source Dragon Icons. When Rox asked if a Dragon Icon was how Ras had summoned the Source Dragon of Energy beneath the Kingdom of Imperium to be contained, Ras confirmed that it was indeed the case.
Dragons Rising, Season 3[]
Fallen Wishes[]
Ras explained to Arin the mechanics of Source Dragon Icons, mentioning the Source Dragon of Energy as he revealed that with Imperium's assistance, he managed to capture the dragon using a Source Dragon Icon, all while concealing his true intentions for the Source Dragons from them.
When Doves Cry[]
When facing Rontu, Ras mentions how he once captured the Source Dragon of Energy, and that he doesn't fear Rontu.
Dragons Rising, Season 4[]
Seed and Soil[]
As Cole and Geo searched through Wu's library to figure out what Ras was after, they discovered that Ras had taken one of Wu's scrolls related to energy containment. Geo remarked on Ras' adept at this skill, recalling how he had previously managed to capture the Source Dragon of Energy.
Personality
Personality[]
The Source Dragon of Energy fosters a strong sense of caution and restraint. He was deeply aware of the consequences of his power and its impact on the realms. Though initially skeptical of mortals—especially Lloyd, he is not dismissive or cold. His doubts are rooted in past disappointments and the trauma of being imprisoned and exploited by Imperium, which has made him wary yet not incapable of trust. Despite his suffering, he retains a sense of fairness and openness as he ultimately chooses to help Lloyd after witnessing his selflessness and willingness to sacrifice power for a greater good. He is thoughtful, morally grounded, selfless, and willing to challenge the neutrality of the Source Dragons when he believes a mortal's cause is just. He also seems to care about other dragons as his reason for transferring some of his dragon energy to Lloyd was to allow other dragons freed to escape Imperium.
Energy mentioned that he once held the belief that mortals were incapable of reaching the Source Dragons as well as having a distrust in them, the same as his sibling Strength, but his perspective changed dramatically after he was imprisoned by Ras and later freed by Lloyd. Not only he was determined to pay his debt, he took it upon himself to warn the Green Ninja about Thunderfang's return and was also willing to side with Motion and Flow on summoning the Arc Dragon of Focus to defeat the Shatter Dragon once and for all. Despite the strained relationship since Balance's death, Energy retained his faith in his brethren, and was saddened of and disappointed in Focus, Strength, and Life's choice to leave the mortals to suffer.
Of all the Source Dragons, he seems to be the most concerned about the fate of mortals, pointing out that it is the mortals, especially the elemental masters, who will suffer the consequences of Focus, Strength, and Life's departure.
