The Ritual of the Blood Moon, also referred as the Battle of the Blood Moon,[1] is a ceremony that if performed, can free the Forbidden Five from the Nether-Space.

Background[]

Ras unlocked the Shadow Dojo and reestablished the Wolf Clan, with the intention of freeing the Forbidden Five. The plan involved performing the Ritual of the Blood Moon, which was just one part of Ras' larger scheme for his master to have power over the Merged Realms by controlling the Source Dragons and their energy.[2] To proceed, the Wolf Clan attacked the Cloud Kingdom and compelled the Writers of Destiny to translate the Theroxian texts, which contained the knowledge needed for the ritual.[3] Additionally, they intended to sacrifice five of the writers to take the place of the Forbidden Five in the Nether-Space, including Euphrasia and Suetonius. Since Bonzle was the one who banished the Forbidden Five, she held the key to opening the portal and freeing them. This prompted Zane and Cole to seek out Gandalaria, who could protect Bonzle from Ras until the Blood Moon had passed.[4]

The Forest of Spirits[]

Having succeeded in translating the Theroxian scrolls, Ras ordered the destruction of the Cloud Kingdom and awaiting the arrival of Jordana with Bonzle, Ras summons the Wolf Clan to the Shadow Dojo and initiates the ritual by ordering some drumming (which signals the Forbidden Five to call home). However, Ras slightly delays the ritual when Jordana does not arrive with Bonzle, so he goes to recover the spell by himself. Shortly after an encounter with Arin, Ras finally starts the ritual.

Rising Ninja[]

Ras commanded a wolf warrior to strike the Gong of Shattering, initiating the Ritual of the Blood Moon. Because they were wearing Wolf Masks, this nearly corrupted Kai, Sora, and Wyldfyre as they attempted to free the Writers of Destiny. While Ras began the incantation, Jordana used her magic to create a portal to the Nether-Space by using Bonzle. Wyldfyre harnessed her Elemental Powers to dispel the corrupting Wolf Masks, but the ninja were noticed by the Wolf Clan. A battle ensued, with Kai and Wyldfyre battling the wolf warriors while Sora trapped Cinder in a cage using her Elemental Tech Mech so he can't use Shatterspin. Wyldfyre rescued the Writers of Destiny, while Jordana reverted Bonzle to her spell form and opened the portal. The ninja shielded the Writers from the wolf warriors, but the warriors gained the upper hand. Just then, Lloyd, Nya, Arin, and Riyu arrived. Cinder escaped from Sora's cage and obtained a Wolf Mask, overpowering the ninja.

Kai retaliated with the Rising Dragon against Cinder, while Lloyd proclaimed Ras' defeat since the Cloud Monks had escaped and the ritual was nearly over. Yet, Ras revealed his plan to sacrifice the ninja in place of the Forbidden Five, as he needed those with unshattered souls to take their place. He struck Kai with his hammer, casting him into the portal and releasing Nokt. As Nokt emerged from the Nether-Space, he allied with Ras and attacked the ninja using Shatterspin. Nya, mastering Rising Dragon technique, battled Nokt, while Lloyd battled Cinder with the same technique, ultimately defeating him.

Nokt was able to overpower Nya. Ras intended to sacrifice Nya next, but Arin planned to use Object Spinjitzu on the severed hand of the Elemental Fire Mech. Sora noticed that Arin's attempt at Object Spinjitzu was going to fail and intervened by using her powers to propel the mech hand toward Ras, ending the ritual. Meanwhile, Jordana struggled to maintain the open portal, which closed abruptly, trapping Kai and Bonzle in the Nether-Space with the Forbidden Five, while Rox escaped by pulling her soul out, possessing Jordana. Ras called for his master’s aid, leading to the transport of the Wolf Clan and the Shadow Dojo to the Land of Eternal Dawn.

During a Blood Moon, one could recite a spell which would tear open a gateway to Nether-Space, allowing each member of the Forbidden Five to escape one at a time.
