Gandalaria

History

History[]

Background[]

Gandalaria rose to become the high sorceress of her homeland. She often engaged in minor disputes with her neighbor Janet, another sorceress,^[1] and occasionally journeyed across different realms. One day, the Dragon Masters sought Gandalaria's assistance, seeking a spell to exile the Forbidden Five to the Nether-Space. Devoting day and night to its creation, Gandalaria finally completed the spell. At some point long ago, Gandalaria would begin using a crystal ball that she would hold sentimentally after it saved her life when the Carnus Conclave fell.^[2] At some point, Gandalaria would design a backup copy in the form of a coconut in case Janet ever managed to wipe her mind. She also became best friends with the cyclops Powerlid until an incident in which the latter organized a gem hunt without the former's consent, who was preoccupied with vocal practice, leading to a divide in their goals and the two of them drifting apart. She was familiar with The Administration, but was also the owner of numerous items which did not recieve its approval. Centuries later, following the Merge, Gandalaria relocated to the Monastery of Mysterium.

Dragons Rising, Season 2[]

Fugitives From Madness[]

Sprite alerted Gandalaria to the arrival of the ninja and Bonzle. Upon seeing them, Gandalaria mistakenly identified the three as the Slug Merchants. Feeling relieved, she declared that their arrival would bring about a significant change. Gandalaria then proceeded to explain that she required 20 striped slugs, five red betties, two extra slimly slugs, and some slugs with wings. However, Cole and Zane clarified that they were not the Slug Merchants Gandalaria had been eagerly anticipating for weeks, much to her disappointment. Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she asked the three if she could transform them into slugs. However, as Gandalaria noticed Bonzle, she immediately recognized her as the same spell that banished the Forbidden Five and warmly embraced her.

Cole conveyed to Gandalaria the importance of protecting Bonzle from Ras. Initially, Gandalaria was perplexed by the unfamiliar names, Bonzle and Ras. However, Bonzle clarified that she had chosen the name for herself. Gandalaria found the name "Bonzle" to be quite delightful. Zane proceeded to explain that Ras had intentions of using Bonzle as a means to unleash the Forbidden Five. Concerned, Gandalaria reassured them that there was no need to worry, as the Ritual of the Blood Moon was necessary to accomplish the feat, and no one possessed the knowledge of how to perform it. Unfortunately, Cole and Zane revealed that Ras had managed to uncover the intricate details of the ritual during his time at the Cloud Kingdom archives. They emphasized that it was only a matter of time before the Blood Moon would reappear, signaling the potential release of the Forbidden Five. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Gandalaria elucidated that if the Forbidden Five were to be set free, their reign would result in the annihilation of all realms. She emphasized the urgency of preventing their liberation.

Gandalaria clarified that she currently lacks the necessary equipment to protect Bonzle, but she still possessed a few items stored in a magical storagehouse in the Wyldness. Cole and Zane proposed traveling to the storehouse on Jiro, a dragon, which delighted Gandalaria. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and Gandalaria hoped it was the Slug Merchants, but it turned out to be the Administration Agents who had come for Zane. Observing this, Gandalaria remarked that the agents wouldn't make good slugs. After the Blood Moon appeared, Zane managed to delay the Administration Agents by exploiting their own rules. Gandalaria scolded Zane for attracting the agents to her, as they wouldn't approve of her magical possessions, which she had to discard from Hatty. Gandalaria insisted on using an escape spell, but it would require two to three days. She instructed Bonzle to seek refuge in the passages beneath the Monastery while Sprite guided her. In the meantime, Gandalaria would deal with the agents using her crystal ball. Suddenly, the Administration Agents stormed into the monastery. Gandalaria, wielding her crystal ball, electrocuted the Agents during the intense battle.

Secrets of the Wyldness[]

Gandalaria fought against the Administration Agents with glee. As she fought, she commented about her crystal ball and how Janet was wrong in stating that it never worked. As the battle progressed however, her crystal ball began to show its weathering and began changing the spells its user was attempting to channel at random. After Zane was knocked offline by Agent Allen's attack, Gandalaria restarted him with a jolt of electricity from her crystal ball. Zane then deactivated all the agents' mechs, allowing for the ninja, Gandalaria, and Bonzle to flee atop of Jiro.

Gandalaria then led her newfound allies to the Forest of Spirits in the Wyldness, where her Magical storagehouse was located. Upon finding the building, Gandalaria momentarily struggled in opening the door but finally managed to open it with an unlocking spell. She then defended her storagehouse (and its disorganized contents) from criticism given by the ninja and swiftly located the Protective container. Bonzle expressed reservations about being sealed inside but Gandalaria assured her that it was perfectly safe and that unfortunately it was the only way to protect her from Ras. Bonzle complied and the sorceress began to seal the container only to realize in horror that someone else was intervening with her spell. Jordana then revealed herself after entrapping the ninja and the sorceress and captured Bonzle, departing with a snide comment about the storagehouse, much to Gandalaria's annoyance.

The Forest of Spirits[]

Gandalaria, Cole, and Zane remain trapped in the magical storagehouse inside a force field set by Jordana. After being freed due to Zane disabling the force field, they search for a way to exit the storagehouse. However, one was revealed to be an aggressive Fang Mouth, another one had the darkness of the tunnel made solid, and Gandalaria opened a door that led to a series of progressively smaller doors, until it reached a small one that opened to reveal Lava-Tides dancing around a party toaster, which she found to be amusing. They eventually resolved to find a potion to open the door. She tries to find the correct potion in a box full of items but finds useless ones that have adverse effects on Cole and Zane. Eventually, she finds the right potion that can instantly open any lock, but slips, with the potion shattering on a sarcophagus opening to reveal a Geckle mummy. Luckily, Zane and Cole find a way to open the door by utilizing Zane's changing size, an effect lasting from one of the potions Gandalaria threw at them. After escaping with them and spotting the off-balanced Cloud Kingdom, Gandalaria used Hatty to fly upwards to it.

Rising Ninja[]

Gandalara was the first to reach Cloud Kingdom, almost immediately falling off Hatty and mumbling to herself that she just remembered why she stopped riding the hat. She then assisted Cole and Zane in freeing the captive Cloud Monks and summoned a hose from Hatty for several others to cling onto when Cloud Kingdom shifted to the side. Later, she was asked by Cole to follow him to the motor room as her assistance was needed. The sorceress was confused by this request at first, as she was not a mechanic, but soon realized what the ninja needed when Zane requested her size-altering potion. She then produced the bottle and sprinkled it on Zane to allow him to serve as a temporary rotor for Cloud Kingdom and to steer the island back into place.

Following the ninja's victory during the Ritual of the Blood Moon, Gandalaria regrouped with her new allies at Cloud Kingdom where they were informed by Suetonius that nothing was able to explain the mysterious disappearance of the Wolf Clan and the Shadow Dojo. When Zane spoke about Bonzle's seeming sacrifice, Gandalaria praised her creation, describing her as a selfless spell. Cole then briefly corrected her wording, clarifying that Bonzle was a selfless person.

After Rising Ninja[]

Gandalaria babysat Spitz and Fritz while Geo was participating in the Tournament of the Sources.^[3]

Dragons Rising, Season 3[]

The Hollow Ones[]

Gandalaria visited Abracalabria to buy supplies; she saw a wizard selling hexes for only 3 coins and bought one because of the cheap price. The only things left on her list were the Slug Merchant, the Charm Boutique, the Slime Spa, and the Crystal Ball Repair Store, so she went to the repair store first. The owner, a Magic-Tide named Pilly-Wig, examined her old crystal ball along with Stuart the Mildly Wonderful; Pilly-Wig suggested a new ball, as hers was old and broken. Suddenly, Kur and the invisible creatures begin attacking Abracalabria. Gandalaria tried to fight against them but to no avail.

Later, when people started to think Arin, Sora and Ras were the ones who attacked them, Gandalaria came and told the villagers that the ninja are their allies while also including the fact that she never met with Ras, telling him that he should attempt to smile more often. She then explained the ninja and Ras how they heard creepy noises and attacked by invisible creatures, causing some of the villagers to become hollowed. As Sora asked her what these noises sounded like, Kur came back, playing her magical flute, much to Gandalaria's worries.

Human Resources[]

As the invisible beings attacked the village, Gandalaria tried to push them back alongside with the ninja and Ras, much to no avail. After Arin realized the invisible beings are Dragonians, he wanted everyone, including Gandalaria to duck, only for one of the Spectral Dragonians to break his Returning Blade. As the invasion continued, Gandalaria tried to protect others with the ninja. After merging a lamp and the broken shard of the Returning Blade, Sora wanted Gandalaria to light the lamp, much to Gandalaria's confusion. After Sora explaining more clearly and a couple of attempts, Gandalaria was able light up the Prismatic Lamp, allowing everyone to see the Spectral Dragonians. As Ras said the only reason why they came to Abracalabria was to find the Underworld, Gandalaria said she has a map to the Underworld. Learning about this, Ras wanted Sora and Arin to protect Gandalaria, despite Gandalaria saying she can take care of herself. Unfortunately, as Gandalaria continued to battle against the Spectral Dragonians, one of them hollowed her, stealing her soul. After Kur and Spectral Dragonians left, Gandalaria started walking mindlessly. Ras blamed Arin for his choices, saying that without the Sorceress' help, they need to find the Underworld themselves. However, Sora suggested that if they take her back to her home, maybe she returns back to normal and they can find the map, which Ras agreed.

As they got closer, Gandalaria started mumbling, which made Arin think she is returning back to normal while Sora suggested maybe she will get better inside. However, when they entered the monastery, they encountered Gandalaria's security system, causing them to sink into the ground. To get out of this, Arin tried to use Gandalaria's crystal ball, only for it to do random things. Thankfully, they were able get out and enter the monastery. After finding the map to the Underworld, Sora and Arin made Gandalaria sit in a couch in the library and leaved her there, hoping that she becomes better while also promising that they will try to save her and everyone who got hollowed.

For Whom the Bell Tolls[]

Gandalaria's body was seen at the Monastery of Mysterium, where she was walking into walls when Nya appeared from the portal gate. Nya encountered her backup body a Coconut copy. But it possessed an armor to fight Nya. After losing the battle, Nya was shocked to see her opponent was a coconut, much to the coconut's confusion and anger. The coconut then told Nya its origins and helped her to get to the Cave of Bells in Mysterium.

Chaos Reigns[]

After Thunderfang was defeated by the Arc Dragon of Focus, Gandalaria's soul returned to her body. At first she was puzzles how she got back to the Monastery and assumed Janet. Later Jay, Kai, and Nya returned her Coconut copy to her.

Trivia

Trivia[]

Due to the complexity of her real name, Gandalaria is often addressed as "Sorceress" by the other characters in the show.^[4]
Her name is similar to that of Gandalf, a wizard character from The Lord of the Rings.
Although several characters wear glasses, she, Dr. LaRow, Dr. Julien and the Administration Agents (Humans and Munce) are the only ones whose glasses are three-dimensional.
One of the medallions on her necklace is reminiscent of the Matoran Alphabet from Bionicle. However, it does not resemble any particular letter.
Prior to and during the events of "Fugitives From Madness," she hadn't ridden on a dragon in over a century.
Gandalaria has red stripes on her face, similar to the Formlings, Zaiden Kane and the Children of the Wolf.
According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the reason that Gandalaria has a long lifespan is because of her magic.^[5]
