Sora and Wyldfyre arrive back in Ninjago where they meet up with Frak, Kai and Cole. The groups split, with Frak joining Sora and Wyldfyre on Zanth to Djinjago. More than one surprise awaits the Ninja in Djinjago, and an old foe threatens the trial to awaken the Arc Dragon of Focus. Nya finds unusual help in Mysterium, while Arin shares doubts with Lloyd as they reach the Spectral Lands.[4]

Plot

In the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Sora and Wyldfyre return through a portal. As they rush down the stairs, Sora nearly falls, but Wyldfyre catches her. They discover that Fritz, Spitz, and Bonzle have become hollow, causing Wyldfyre to worry that the spectral creatures responsible for the attack on the monastery have struck again. Geo and Mr. Frohicky explain that the monastery was not attacked, although similar incidents are occurring outside the Land of Lost Things. Riyu happily reunites with Sora, who apologizes for leaving him behind and assures him that Arin is safe. Geo asks whether people outside the Land of Lost Things are also being drained. Sora reveals that Thunderfang is using the Forbidden Five to collect souls in an attempt to become a Source Dragon. When Geo asks whether the ninja have a plan, Sora admits that they do, although it is a risky one.

Arin and Lloyd travel through the Spectral Lands in their mechs while Thunderfang continues drawing power from the healing elixir in his attempt to become a Source Dragon. The Forbidden Five watch as the villain's strength steadily grows. As they approach the source of the energy, Lloyd explains that they must bring the Unbidden Storm to the well feeding Thunderfang's power. Once the other teams awaken their portions of the Arc Dragon of Focus, the dragon will be summoned to their location. Although Lloyd remains optimistic, Arin doubts his own abilities and fears that he will make a mistake. Lloyd encourages Arin by sharing that he also struggled when he first began his journey as a ninja, explaining that confidence is a skill that can be learned. He tells Arin that he has the potential to become one of the greatest ninja ever. However, Arin reveals that after the mission is over, he intends to quitting the ninja. Having finally reunited with his parents in the Land of Lee, he wishes to help reunite other families before returning to them permanently. Lloyd is shocked to hear Arin's decision, leaving him speechless as the two continue their mission.

At the Monastery of Mysterium, Nya unexpectedly arrives through a portal and lands on a dragon statue. Finding herself alone, she reviews Bleckt's directions to the Cave of Tones and attempts to convince herself that she does not need anyone else's help. Although she claims to enjoy working alone as a mercenary, she struggles with doubts about her future as a ninja. As Nya prepares to leave, strange noises echo through the monastery. She opens one of the doors and discovers Gandalaria, who has become hollow and repeatedly calls out for Janet. Realizing that the same affliction affecting other realms has reached Mysterium, Nya becomes concerned. Before she can react, an armored figure suddenly attacks her, kicking her to the ground. Shocked, Nya looks up and sees that her mysterious attacker is wearing a large suit of armor.

Sora and Wyldfyre ask Riyu to help them locate Djinjago, since neither of them knows its exact location. Riyu leads them to Zanth and Rontu, who have been helping the young dragon train. Rontu praises Riyu's progress and believes that he may soon achieve his first Spinjitzu Tornado. Sora encourages Riyu by sharing that she recently accomplished her own first tornado technique and assures him that he is capable of doing the same. She then asks Zanth to transport them to Djinjago once again. Zanth agrees, explaining through Rontu that her homeland has begun to recover and that she wishes to see what it has become. Although Riyu wishes to accompany them, Rontu initially tells him to remain behind and continue his training. However, she soon realizes that there is little point in training if the world itself is in danger. Giving Riyu her blessing, Rontu tells the young dragon to help save the world and to stay safe. Riyu gladly agrees as the group prepares to depart for Djinjago.

Nya confronts the mysterious armored warrior while attempting to protect Gandalaria. The warrior attacks relentlessly, forcing Nya to defend herself with her elemental powers and Spinjitzu. Although she manages to damage the armor, it repeatedly repairs itself. Finally, she knocks off the warrior's helmet, revealing that the suit is controlled by a talking coconut. The coconut speaks with the voice and personality of the Sorceress, leaving Nya confused. It explains that it is a magical backup copy of the Sorceress's mind that was created in case Janet's memory-altering plan succeeded. While Gandalaria continues wandering in her hollow state, repeatedly calling for Janet, the coconut attempts to understand the changes that have occurred in Mysterium. Nya explains that she is searching for the Cave of Tones and shows the directions she received from Bleckt. However, the coconut reveals that the landscape has changed dramatically and that the route is no longer safe. Realizing that the information is outdated, Nya becomes frustrated. The coconut offers to guide Nya using a safer and more current route to the Cave of Tones. Although somewhat skeptical, Nya accepts the offer, and the two leave together while Gandalaria slowly recovers enough to climb out of the pond beneath the dragon statue.

Frak and Kai return through a portal carrying the hollowed Cole. Geo is devastated to see that Cole has also fallen victim to the soul-draining affliction and helps him inside. Kai explains that Cole sacrificed himself while freeing the Finders' souls. Kai and Wyldfyre happily reunite, greeting one another with their traditional "Flame Fist" gesture. Wyldfyre then reveals that she has brought Sora back safely. Kai warmly welcomes Sora home, and the two share an emotional reunion. Frak admits that he had been worried about Sora's safety, though he quickly insists that everyone else had been concerned as well. When He asks about Arin, Sora explains that he is still with Lloyd. She informs Kai and Frak that the Merged Lands are facing a growing crisis caused by Thunderfang and that they must work together to stop him. Kai immediately asks what needs to be done, preparing to join the mission.

As Nya and the Sorceress's coconut copy continue toward the Cave of Tones, Thunderfang's storm can be heard in the distance. Along the way, the coconut asks Nya about what happened to the ninja after the Merge. Nya explains that the team was scattered across different realms and that reuniting was not as joyful as she had expected. Their journey is interrupted when the path suddenly ends at a cavern filled with glowing mercurial mushrooms. The coconut admits that the landscape of Mysterium has changed and that its knowledge is outdated. With no other route available, Nya uses Spinjitzu and the unstable mushrooms as stepping stones to cross the cavern. While making their way across, Nya opens up about Jay. She explains that after finally finding him again, he no longer remembered her and had become a completely different person. She had hoped that spending time together would restore his memories, but instead she was forced to accept that people can change. The coconut sympathizes with Nya, revealing that it once had a close companion with whom it shared many experiences before their paths eventually diverged. As the unstable mushrooms begin to collapse, Nya saves the coconut from falling, refusing to abandon it despite its insistence that it is only a magical copy. After escaping the cavern by climbing the mushroom mycelium, Nya encourages the coconut not to give up, reminding it that ninja never quit. The coconut warns her that nothing in Mysterium should be considered surprising, and as they continue their journey, a mysterious figure appears at the far side of the cave.

Meanwhile, Sora, Wyldfyre, Frak, and Riyu travel toward Djinjago on the backs of Zanth and Riyu. During the flight, Wyldfyre attempts to pass the time by singing, while Frak struggles with the height and the long journey. Sora encourages the group to sing together, though Frak's lack of musical ability makes the effort unsuccessful. As they continue flying, Zanth suddenly begins acting strangely. The dragon roars, accelerates unexpectedly, and struggles to maintain control. The riders fear that something is wrong as Zanth circles through the sky. Moments later, Zanth undergoes a transformation, growing larger horns, thicker wings, and pink markings. The sudden change astonishes Sora and the others, who realize that the dragon has evolved since they last saw her. Exhausted from the effort, Riyu catches up to the group shortly afterward. The transformed Zanth resumes the journey, carrying the group toward Djinjago much faster than before.

In the Spectral Lands, Thunderfang continues his ritual to become a Source Dragon. As he absorbs more power from the healing elixir, his body begins to mutate, with sharp spikes emerging across his form and one of his arms transforming into a massive claw. During the transformation, Thunderfang suddenly senses a disturbance. Realizing that someone is approaching the Arc Dragon of Focus, he deduces that the ninja are attempting to awaken his ancient enemy. Angered by their actions, he warns the Forbidden Five that the ninja are moving against him as his transformation continues.

Sora, Wyldfyre, Frak, Riyu, and Zanth finally arrive in Djinjago, though Riyu is exhausted from the journey. Sora is astonished by how much the realm has changed since her last visit, noticing that the city has expanded with new towers, fountains, and districts. Frak discovers that a monastery portal gate has been built into the mountains, further demonstrating how greatly Djinjago has developed. As the group admires the transformed realm, Arrakore suddenly appears, startling Wyldfyre. Delighted to see him again, Sora warmly reunites with Arrakore, while Riyu also happily greets the Djinn. Arrakore expresses his joy at their return and welcomes Sora back to Djinjago. Arrakore is pleased to meet Wyldfyre and Frak and is especially surprised to discover that Zanth has changed. He explains that the expansion of Djinjago has somehow infused the dragon with powerful energy, causing her recent transformation. Arrakore and Zanth share a joyful reunion as the group takes in the remarkable changes that have occurred throughout the realm.

Elsewhere, Rapton and his crew of Freebooters travel through the skies aboard their hover chariots in search of Djinjago. Spotting the realm below, Rapton proudly declares that he has finally found what he was looking for, although one of the Freebooters questions his unusual phrasing. After a brief and humorous exchange about Rapton's grammar, the crew descends toward Djinjago.

Nya and the Sorceress's coconut copy eventually reach what appears to be the Cave of Tones, hidden behind a strange reverse waterfall. The coconut enthusiastically explains that they only need to play the tones in the proper order to awaken their portion of the Arc Dragon of Focus. Although the coconut doubts whether the other ninja will succeed, Nya remains confident that her friends will complete their own missions. As they approach the waterfall, a large silhouette appears on the opposite side. The figure emerges as Powerlid, a cyclops who calls himself the Ultimate Object of Admiration. The coconut immediately recognizes him as a former friend and attempts to hide from him. Nya learns that Powerlid was once close to the Sorceress's backup copy, but the two eventually grew apart. Living alone in a cave and obsessively collecting valuable objects, Powerlid has become increasingly possessive and isolated. After discovering a piece of jewelry and placing it in his collection, he notices Nya and accuses her of being another intruder seeking to steal his belongings. Realizing that Powerlid intends to attack them, Nya and the coconut prepare to defend themselves as their journey to awaken the Arc Dragon of Focus faces yet another obstacle.

Back at the monastery, Mr. Frohicky and Geo attempt to care for the hollowed Finders and Cole. Mr. Frohicky prepares a bowl of aged spore-rot broth based on Auntie Crokwart's recipe, hoping it might help revive them. However, the broth proves ineffective, as Spitz cannot drink it and it passes straight through Bonzle's skeletal body. Geo becomes increasingly worried as Cole remains unresponsive. As Geo tries to reach Cole, the monastery's portal gate suddenly activates once again. Expecting one of the ninja to return, Geo and Mr. Frohicky are shocked when Ras emerges from the portal instead. Ras warns them that the ninja are scattered across the Merged Realms and urges them to surrender, claiming that resistance is pointless. Geo refuses to back down, insisting that ninja never quit. Ras dismisses the two as not being true ninja, but Mr. Frohicky declares that those who stand beside the ninja also refuse to surrender. As Ras advances, Mr. Frohicky throws the bowl of broth at him. Instead of harming him, the broth energizes Ras, who reveals the Source Dragon icons attached to his back. Geo and Mr. Frohicky quickly retreat, leading Cole and the hollowed Finders to the elevator and sealing the doors just before Ras reaches them.
