In ancient Chima's past, Mottrot was the first-born son of Maula, the queen of the Mammoth Tribe and the older brother of Mungus. At some point, Mottrot became a student of the Phoenix, after the Mother Sun sent them after feeling pity for the early tribes. However, Mottrot and the rest of his tribe would join Sir Fangar in his quest to rule Chima. The Phoenix decided to stop the hunters with the Great Illumination, which consisted of nine Phoenix warriors sacrificing themselves using Fire Harnesses and healing the hunters. However, Fluminox, the king of the Phoenix who was suppose to be the ninth Phoenix, decided not to join his fellow Phoenix due to not wanting to leave his infant son Flinx an orphan. As a result, the Illumination was imperfect, and all the hunters, including Mottrot and his family, were frozen deep within the Gorge of Eternal Depth, trapped in a dreamless sleep.

Fire Dreaming[]

Years later, Mottrot was awaken by Sir Fangar after he was revived by CHI thrown away by the Scorpion king Scorm. Later, when Maula tries to awaken Mungus, she forces Mottrot to give Mungus his orb since the latter required three orbs of CHI. Although he objects, Maula states Mungus needs the orb more than him and pulls it out, resulting in Mottrot returning to a dreamless sleep. Mottrot was later given a new orb and awakened again.

Attack of the Ice Clan[]

After escaping the gorge, Mottrot and the rest of the hunters arrive at the Crocodile Fortress and freeze all of the Crocodiles, minus Cragger and Crooler, who manage to escape in the Helicrocter with a frozen Crug.

Mammoth Downtime[]

Eventually, after Flinx was transformed into the ninth phoenix, he cured Mottrot and Mungus.

Mottrot is one of the smartest warriors in all of the Ice Hunter tribes, a master planner who has devised incredibly effective battle strategies. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get much credit for his brains. He is short, and among Mammoths that means you aren’t respected. And his mother, Maula, dotes on his huge, dumb brother Mungus. She gives Mungus the credit for all of Mottrot’s great ideas. Mottrot doesn’t object, because he doesn’t want to get his Mom angry at him. Mottrot can’t even get a little comfort when he gets hurt in battle. Maula will usually just blame him for being clumsy.^[1]

Trivia

Trivia[]

His name is a play on the words 'Mutt' and 'Rot'.
Mottrot's voice actor is the same as Lagravis, Lavertus, and Longtooth's.
He speaks with an Irish accent.
Mottrot getting stuck in tar may be a reference to the La Brea tar pits, a fossil formation in which mammoths stuck in tar are commonplace.
As Mottrot is the oldest son of the leader of the mammoth tribe, it can be assumed he is next in line to take over the tribe. This is evidenced when he gave orders to his tribes people and they listened to him.
