Lavertus is a Lion warrior, Lagravis' brother, Laval's uncle, and the legendary Speedor racer known as ShadoWind.

History

Background[]

Lavertus was born as the younger brother of Lagravis, making him Laval's uncle. Lavertus was deeply in love with Crunket, a princess from the Crocodile Tribe. However, Crominus, a prince from another Crocodile royal family, was also in love with Crunket and grew fiercely jealous. To eliminate his rival, Crominus purchased seeds of the Persuader Plant from Reegull. He used the plant's mind-control powers to command Lavertus to stay away from Crunket. While a brainwashed Lavertus initially ignored her, his profound love for Crunket proved stronger than the plant's power, causing the effects to wear off. Determined to remove Lavertus permanently, Crominus used the Persuader Plant a second time, commanding him to steal all the Chi from the sacred pool in the Lion Temple. Lavertus marched to the pool to commit the theft, but he was caught in the act by several lions and a stunned Lagravis. The shock of being caught broke the plant's spell once more, leaving Lavertus horrified by his actions. Though he had the opportunity to reveal the truth, he chose silence to prevent a war between the Lions and Crocodiles—knowing that Crunket would be dragged into the hostility. As punishment, Lavertus was exiled to the Outlands. Before his departure, Crunket gave him her scarf as a keepsake. With Lavertus gone, Crominus married Crunket and became King of the Crocodile Tribe.[1]

Exile[]

During his exile, Lavertus minded his own business as he traveled through the Outlands. However, his isolation ended when the Crawlers suddenly appeared. Realizing he needed to protect himself, he decided to compete in the Speedor races to win Golden Chi. He planned to use the powerful Chi to construct a protective gauntlet and build a secure lair. Because he was banished, he had to completely disguise his identity to participate in the races.[2]

The Biggest Race Ever[]

Lavertus decided to enter the race in which the winner would earn the biggest Golden Chi orb there had ever been. It was his first Speedor race since his exile. Lavertus entered the competition disguised, joining the race mid-way through after Laval was knocked off course by Cragger and fell into a pool of Biters. He pulled Laval to safety from the drowning hazard before charging into the lead, quickly catching up to Dom de la Woosh. Cragger tried to sabotage him by using his spear, but he failed. Lavertus crossed the finish line and won the race, thus earning the Golden Chi. Due to his complete disguise, Equila dubbed the unknown victor "ShadoWind" for being as fast as the wind yet as mysterious as a shadow. Following the victory, Lagravis rewarded ShadoWind with the Golden Chi and was curious about the latter's identity. Instead of speaking, ShadoWind immediately drove away on his Speedor. Cragger chased him to uncover his true identity, but the elusive racer successfully outmaneuvered him and vanished into the distance.

Gorillas Gone Wild[]

He met Plovar, who asked to know his secret, promising not to tell anyone. Plovar claimed ShadoWind had told him but made him promise not to tell, but this was untrue.

Foxtrot[]

Laval watched as ShadoWind was attacking Cragger and some other members of the Crocodile Tribe. He later saved Laval in a race, won the Golden Chi, and watched the riot.

The Chi Jackers[]

While the Wolf Tribe were stealing Chi, ShadoWind gave the Golden Chi he had won in the last Speedorz contest to Laval, who used it to fix the hole in the wall of the Lion Temple the Wolves had made, then attacked the Wolves and distracted them so they could use it.

Crocodile Tears[]

Laval and Eris tried desperately to seek ShadoWind out when they wanted to save the Crocodiles from being held prisoner by the Wolves. Furtivo (disguised as ShadoWind) ended up helping them, with the Ravens' "help". ShadoWind watched Furty do so.

Ravens vs Eagles[]

ShadoWind led Laval and Cragger's Speedorz race.

The ShadoWind Chronicles[]

Lavertus saved the Lion Legend Beast from the Spiders and offered to make armor for it.

The Cloud and the Shadow (flashback)[]

While Skinnet was tasting a sap on the plants in the Outlands, he saw ShadoWind and asked him if he wanted to share some sap. However, the Bat Tribe showed up and captured Skinnet to deliver him to their king. Having seen that, ShadoWind started to chase after the bats, much to their shock. Eventually, he saved Skinnet by using a ramp and continued to chase the Bat Tribe.

The Black Valious (flashback)[]

Lavertus used the Black Valious for various simple tasks, such as removing cupcakes from his oven, chopping wood, and fishing. One night, while he was preoccupied, the Scorpions attempted to invade his lair. Unaware of their plan, Lavertus used the Black Valious to toss his old socks outside. The foul odor of the socks quickly overwhelmed the attackers, causing them to surrender. Hearing their cries, Lavertus mistakenly believed the socks were the source of the noise and remarked that they could cry all they want, but he had no intention of bringing them back inside.

The Flyin' Lion (flashback)[]

Lavertus begun the inaugural test flight of the WindShadow after finishing it, accompanied by his workout dummy, Sir Kicks-a-lot. During their journey, they encountered the Bat Tribe attacking the Eagle Legend Beast. Lavertus instructed Sir Kicks-a-lot to operate the gun, which the dummy inadvertently activated by tumbling onto a button, successfully firing at the bats and rescuing the beast. However, the WindShadow suffered damage from the Bat Flyers. In a desperate plea for help, Lavertus urged Sir Kicks-a-lot to take action, but the dummy accidentally fell onto another button, resulting in both of them being ejected from the aircraft. Fortunately, the Eagle Legend Beast swooped in to save them from the fall. Afterward, Lavertus reflected on the need to fix the WindShadow and improve his landing skills, though he questioned whether he truly needed to.

The Web and the Sting (flashback)[]

While making his way through Spider Canyon, Lavertus spied on the Scorpion and Spider Tribes. Scorm boasted that the raw might of his Scorpions could best anyone, while Spinlyn argued that brute force was no match for a delicately woven strategy. To settle the argument, the two Outland Tribes deployed their respective vehicles for battle, which an eager Lavertus settled in to watch the entertainment. However, the fight ended in mutual disaster when both vehicles misfired. The crossfire left the Scorpions overwhelmed by spider webs, while the Spiders were incapacitated by scorpion venom. Because of this, Scorm and Spinlyn mutually agreed to postpone their invasion for another day. Lavertus sighed, worrying about the fate of his neighborhood.

Laval in Exile[]

ShadoWind showed up in the Fangs and gave Laval the Pledge of the Pack that he had somehow found in the Outlands, then speeded off.

The Black Cloud[]

ShadoWind led the Black Cloud into the Outlands and Laval, Eris, Cragger, Crawley and Crug followed. It was also revealed that ShadoWind had not told Plovar his secret before.

For CHIMA![]

He caught Laval as he was falling in a fight with Cragger and took him to the Outlands, where they found the Crocodile Legend Beast and Crunket. He then spoke the only words he had ever been known to say: "For Chima!" and left into the Outlands.

Into the Outlands[]

Lavertus met Laval, Cragger, Eris, Rogon, Gorzan, Bladvic, Worriz and Razar and split them up. He revealed he knew where all the Legend Beasts were and allowed the 8 heroes to stay in his Outland Base and share his new armor. Later at night, he entered his secret room full of Golden Chi.

A Tangled Web[]

Lavertus came to rescue the Queen Crunket from the spiders who had captured her, Crug, and Crawley. He captured the spiders and freed Crunket. She claimed to know him somehow, but he quickly drove away.

Back at the base, Lavertus came out of his secret room and realized that the heroes were back. They told him they had rescued two Legend Beasts, and Lavertus claimed that he had seen them outside. When Cragger asked if they had passed him in the jungle, Lavertus answered that he had been in the house all day doing important stuff, and offered the heroes cookies.

Under the Spell of the Scorpions[]

In the Outland Base, Lavertus gave the Heroes of Chima a lecture on the dangers of the Outlands, saying that the Scorpions are the most dangerous of them all and warned them about their stings. When Eris asked if there was a cure for their sting, Lavertus explained that they said the blue moss from the Scorpion Cave could cure the poisoning. However, he also mentioned that only the Scorpion Tribe knew the way of the cave.

After Gorzan brought G'Loona to the Outland Base, Lavertus comforted her about the trampled flowers and said that she needed to get some sleep.

The Legend Thief[]

Lavertus was furious to find that his "stuff" (presumably the Golden Chi) had been stolen out of his secret room. He woke everyone up and interrogated Eris first of all, to which she denied and turned the blame on Razar and Rinona. Rejecting Cragger's request to know EXACTLY what had been stolen, he went to cool off outside for a bit, saying that if his stuff wans’t returned by the time he would come back, every single one of them would have to be gone.

Later on, he spotted the Raven Legend Beast flying around in the open, with his Golden Chi. "I'm coming for ya" he said to it. Before he went to chase the Beast down, the crew gave him his helmet that they had found in the secret room. Lavertus tried his best to keep his secret identity hidden, but with all the evidence found, he was put into submission. Donning his helmet, he almost left to retrieve his Golden Chi, but was held up for a moment of admiration. The group asked for his help, though he replied he had been helping them by baking cupcakes. The team argued that he had to give far more in order to rescue the Legend Beasts and King Crominus. Cragger mentioning his father's name for some reason changed Lavertus' whole mood to anger, as he demanding them to leave. Laval held back everyone's denial, promising that they would leave peacefully. Not without a race, though. After another moment of Lavertus getting admired by Laval, a wager was suggested of him needing to help if he would lose the race.

Finally, the mysterious racer was beaten for the first time by the team work of our 8 heroes. Surprised because he'd never lost before, he learned to accept it and went through with his end of the bargain, agteeing to help out. Lavertus took the whole crew to the Scorpion Caves, hiding in the distance as a whole bunch of scorpions were seen guarding the entrance. As soon as the Raven Beast showed up, Lavertus notified everyone. Razar showed much pleasure seeing his beast, explaining that it was also known as the "master criminal" in his tribe. Lavertus complained however that this master criminal was working for the Scorpions once he saw it deliver the Golden Chi to them. Razar was in complete shock.

With a quick sigh, Lavertus blamed himself for this. Sending us back to the past, he explained that he hadn’t always been ShadoWind back in the day, instead just an exiled Lion. But when the Bats, Spiders and Scorpions had showed up, that's when he had needed to do what he was renowned for, racing. The Golden Chi won from the races had helped him build his lair for protection from these 3 tribes. However, due to the Scorpions' unique mind controlling sting, building walls wasn’t an option anymore, as they were able to make the Legend Beasts themselves their servants. That was why he had built some effective armour for the Gorilla, Crocodile, and Rhino.

With a plan arranged, Lavertus led Laval and Razar past the guards and into the cave, with their "special weapon" in Razar's hands. Everyone else had to fight their way in. Running into some more guards along the way, Lavertus suggested that they took the "higher road" to get past (which was basically just riding their Speedorz on the roof and somehow balancing without falling down). Slowly sneaking their way into the exit room of the cave, Lavertus witnessed as his Golden Chi was used to continue building a giant statue of the "Great Scorpion", whom the Scorpions worshipped as a god. Noting this as one of the reasons they were avoided, including in the fact that they were very dangerous. No more talking was needed anymore because a guard found them and alerted king Scorm.

After Laval screamed at Razar about his special weapon being a few jars of golden paint in a situation like this, Lavertus explained that a Raven's love for gold was what made this weapon so special. Retrieving back his Golden Chi, Lavertus escaped the cave with his companions and another Beast. Back at the base, he simply gave a warm smile to the 8 heroes' celebration.

The Spider Queen[]

While the Heroes of Chima went to visit their tribes, Lavertus gave them cupcakes and said they were free to share it with others, while also warning them about not letting the tribes know he had baked them.

The Eagle and the Bear[]

Watching the Eagle Legend Beast from his telescope, Lavertus notified the 8 heroes of her strange circling around a certain pillar, which she'd been doing all day long. Hearing that Bladvic knew about a "secret garage" from his dream somehow, Lavertus explained to the rest, who were confused, that the Bear Legend Beast had been his guest once or twice to help him with something in that exact place. Welcoming everyone into his secret garage, Lavertus showed them all a giant flying machine called "The WindShadow," built by the power of Golden Chi. Eris noticed the similarity between the names "WindShadow" and "ShadoWind." Lavertus made a joke about it and messed around with Cragger, saying "or did I?"

Flying his WindShadow all the way to the seesaw, Lavertus found it strange why there weren’t any guards to be seen, though that was a good thing to see. Once Bladvic and Laval got the seesaw to be steady, Lavertus asked what would be needed to reinforce them with, listing in some rocks, a rope, and Laval's Speedor even, not being able to throw any of it down because of the Bear Beast's slight moving interruption. Still, he slided down a rope with the WindShadow on auto pilot, but because of his whispering to Laval to wrap a rope tightly around the Bear Beast, he accidentally woke up Bladvic and the Beast walked back to the edge. Unexpectedly, Lavertus was shot at by enemy fire. Before he was chased away, he leaned the WindShadow backwards and tossed out to Laval his Speedor.

Game of Legends[]

The main heroes tried to find out which Legend Beast was the mightiest by giving them a rock to put inside a basket. When Lavertus brought cupcakes, all the beasts ignored the rock and went for the food.

Horn to be Wild[]

Lavertus was annoyed by Rogon sharpening his pillow rock at night. Rinona calmed him down and explained that he meant no wrong.

Tooth or Consequences[]

Lavertus interrupted Cragger's dream in the middle of the night, joking around with him once again. Before Cragger left to find Crominus, Lavertus stopped him and yelled out that he couldn’t, while hiding something behind his back. Suspicious as usual, he was revealed to be holding Crunket's pink scarf, making the Croc curious. After a minute of strange talking to the scarf, his denial to Cragger's search turned into encouragement as he went into his room with the pink item.

When Lavertus' name was mentioned to Crominus, the Crocodile King showed an extreme look of hate. Asked if they had known each other in the past, he answered that they had long ago. In the morning, seeing that two of their friends are gone, Lavertus was questioned by Laval to know where and why he let them leave. Replying that he had thought they'd be fine, he looked through his telescope to see them in a cage, which put that prediction to shame. Once Gorzan alerted them that they were almost in "cave land", Lavertus gave them a warning of a high improvement in security. So to even up the odds, he showed everyone some upgrades to their weapons, which he had made himself overnight. He handed over to Laval, a very special weapon—the ShadoValious. Laval wondered how he had got it, as only the Lion Royal Family had such swords. Ignoring his question, Lavertus pushed Laval away and tried to send them off. Surprised that he wouldn’t be joining in on this one, Laval explained that it was more then just the Legend Beast, it was King Crominus as well. Enraged by that exact name, Lavertus screamed out "NEVER!" and marched off. When everyone left, he gave an unpleasant look before sliding shut the door he was hiding behind.

This May Sting a Bit[]

As Lavertus once again refused to help the Heroes of Chima as long as Crominus was involved, Rinona questioned why he held such a grudge against him. Lavertus explained how Crominus was the reason he was sent to exile. Lavertus admitted that, since the day he was banished, he had never truly lived. Horrified by what Lavertus had endured, Rinona expressed her sympathy but refused to let his old grudge keep him from helping their friends. She urged Lavertus to take the Golden Chi and use it to save their friends. Then, she told him he could finally confront Crominus and make him understand the sacrifice Lavertus had made all those years ago. Lavertus growled angrily, but eventually relented and agreed to Rinona's plan.

Lavertus and Rinona used the WindShadow to make their way to the Scorpion Cave, with Lavertus hanging from a rope beneath the vehicle. Suddenly, Lavertus released the rope and leaped from the WindShadow, landing directly beside Crominus, who struggled to believe that the lion standing before him was truly Lavertus. Lavertus used Golden Chi to reinforce the unstable ceiling, keeping the falling rocks suspended long enough for everyone else to escape. Laval refused to abandon Lavertus, but Lavertus firmly ordered him to leave. He also commanded Cragger to go. Crominus, however, approached Lavertus, reminding him that they still had unfinished business between them. Lavertus agreed. The two stood face-to-face, but instead of attacking, Lavertus quietly confessed that he had hated Crominus for everything that had happened between them—until he met Cragger. Through Cragger, Lavertus had come to understand that his exile had ultimately served a greater purpose. He realized that if he and Crominus had continued fighting over Crunket, Cragger might never have been born. Lavertus then gave Crominus Queen Crunket's scarf, entrusting him with keeping their loved ones safe.

As Crominus joined Laval and Cragger, Lavertus then asked Laval to tell Lagravis how much he missed him, revealing that he and Laval’s father were brothers. Declaring his devotion to the honor of Chima and to Crunket, Lavertus sacrificed his chance of escape.

After This May Sting a Bit[]

Lavertus survived the collapse by using Golden Chi to create a protective shelter around himself. He then discovered that the Crawlers still possessed a considerable amount of Chi. Lavertus prepared to take some of the Chi, but he soon noticed Scorm, who was ranting about how Laval had been willing to give him the Chi. Scorm then had the Scorpions threw the Chi into a chasm. Lavertus climbed down after it, attempting to recover as much of the Chi as possible. While doing so, however, he noticed the Hunters had begun climbing upward from below. Lavertus realized that they had been reanimated by the Chi the Crawlers had thrown away. Lavertus immediately used another Golden Chi orb to construct a second shelter, concealing himself from them. He wanted to warn the tribes of Chima about what was happening, but he was unable to reach them immediately as digging his way out of the shelter took an enormous amount of time.

Legends of Chima, Season 3[]

The Phoenix Had Landed[]

When Laval, Cragger, Eris, Li'Ella, Fluminox, Flinx, Foltrax, Firox, and Frax were trapped by the Hunters in the Gorge of Eternal Depth and saw no hope of getting out, Lavertus (as ShadoWind) suddenly showed up. After being recognized by Laval, he took off his helmet and offered to help the team by using Golden Chi.

A Spark of Hope[]

Lavertus explained to the others how he had managed to survive. While saying that he had felt like a bird breaking out of his shell, he begun imitating a chicken, which annoyed the Phoenix. Lavertus apologized and called them "Hot Wings." Flinx liked the nickname, but Fluminox did not. Lavertus asked his nephew whether he and Li'Ella were together, and Laval replied: "Sorry, Uncle, she's not my girlfriend. Or is she?" Lavertus approved of the joke. Li'Ella asked him if they could get out of the Gorge faster. Lavertus pulled out Golden Chi orbs, arranged them in the shape of a smiley face, and told everyone to gather around. They used the Chi to create pillars that pushed the ice upward.

After escaping from the Gorge, the team talked inside the Blazing Bastion. Laval thanked Lavertus for his help. The exiled Lion begun to mock Cragger with his usual jokes, but this time the Croc found them funny as well and joined in. Everyone laughed. Fluminox pointed out the freeze spreading across Chima. Lavertus remarked that the place had changed quite a bit since he had last seen it.

At the Phoenix Temple on Mount Cavora, Lavertus was amazed by the view. As the heroes said there was no hope of finding the Fire Wings after the map had been destroyed, they saw a burst of light coming from the Outlands. Lavertus didn’t know what it was, since the tribes living there had never had anything so bright.

Wings of Fire[]

Laval, Cragger, Eris, and Li'Ella went to the Outlands to find the source of the light. Lavertus appeared in front of them, informing them that he had scouted ahead, and proceeded to lead them. When they arrived at the light source, they spotted Tormak, who now had the map to the Fire Wings burned into his essence, which appeared when he would Chi up. Lavertus drew a copy of the map on a piece of paper.

The group arrived at a field below the Eagle Spires, where the first Fire Wings were located. The Phoenix security system was activated, and the Fire Wings begun disappearing and reappearing in different places. The team tried to obtain them. Lavertus got hit by a rock, which annoyed him, and he started striking back at the rocks. Eventually, Eris managed to grab the Fire Wings, and they split up to find the other ones.

Lagravis sent out a distress call from the Lion Temple. Laval wanted to go and help, but Lavertus stopped him, saying that he needed to find the Fire Wings. Lavertus then went to the temple himself and joined his brother and the other Lions in the fight against the Hunters.

Strike of the Tiger/The Heart of Cavora[]

The battle at the Lion Temple continued. Lagravis and Lavertus felt the ground shaking as the Ice Bears arrived to aid the Hunters. The two brothers later witnessed the Perfect Illumination caused by the Eight Heroes of Chima and Flinx. Lagravis and Lavertus then shared a hug when Eris mentioned families being reunited thanks to the Illumination.

After many years fending for himself in the Outlands, Lavertus has developed strange habits and odd manners. He's not all that easy to get along with, but he has hidden talents, such as the ability to build things, that make him a strong ally.

Did you Know?[]

Lavertus and Crominus once shared a love interest, Crunket, Queen of the Crocodile Tribe. The jealous Croc made sure his rival was out of the picture by orchestrating his exile.

Lavertus is a dark-skinned, blonde Lion with torn armor and clothing. Instead of the normal Lion headgear, he has a black one with a white paw print on it. He is so far the only known blonde Lion.

ShadoWind[]

Lavertus' alternate personality is ShadoWind (also written as Shadowind[4]), who he disguises as whenever he is around the tribes of Chima and not in the Outlands. ShadoWind has a red/dark blue outfit and a helmet which has the same colors, glowing light blue eyes, and two white tusks sticking out of it.

  • He has a distinctive way of speaking, as he often ends his sentences with "Or [linking verb here] I?"
    • He spoke like that even before his exile, as Lagravis immediately recognized him because of it in "Wings of Fire."
  • His quote 'Nobody's called me that name in a very long time' may be a reference to Obi-Wan Kenobi, a character from the Star Wars saga. Also, after being in exile he acts insane, similar to Yoda in the same movie trilogy.
  • Before it was revealed in the main series that Lavertus is a member of the Lion Royal Families, several Season 2 webisodes—which take place after Season 2 revealed this by addressing him as Laval's uncle before the finale aired. In the actual season, his royal lineage was first foreshadowed in "Tooth or Consequences," in which Lavertus gave Laval the Black Valious, a weapon that Laval noted is exclusive to the Lion Royal Family.
  • He has a pawprint on his headband that is "a symbol of uniqueness".
  • Despite ShadoWind's suit being dark blue in the show, it's black on the LEGO minifigure.
