History[]

Background[]

Maula rose to become the leader of the Mammoth Tribe and is the mother of two sons, Mottrot and Mungus. The Phoenix sought to bless Maula and her tribe, along with the Saber-tooth Tiger, Vulture, and Ice Bear Tribes, by bestowing upon them institutions that promised growth and improvement. However, as time passed, Maula and her tribe allied themselves with Sir Fangar in his quest to dominate Chima.^[2] In her influential position, Maula became a trusted advisor to Sir Fangar.^[1]

As the threat from the Hunters loomed larger, the Phoenix Elders determined that the Great Illumination was the only force strong enough to thwart the Hunters, intending to purify them from evil. Yet, Fluminox chose to abstain from participating in the Illumination to care for Flinx, which disrupted the balance necessary for the Illumination to succeed. As a result, when Chima underwent its renewal, Maula, her sons, and the rest of the Mammoth Tribe were frozen deep underground alongside the Hunters, trapped in a state of limbo between life and death.^[2]

Fire Dreaming[]

Maula was among the numerous Hunters resurrected by Fangar after Scorm had thrown Chi into the cavern where they had been trapped. Upon her revival, she sought to awaken Mungus by attempting to place a Chi orb into his belt, but he remained in a deep slumber. Realizing that Mungus required three Chi orbs to awaken, Maula insisted that Mottrot relinquish his own orb, despite Mottrot's protests about the consequences of returning to a dreamless sleep. Ignoring his concerns, Maula took Mottrot's Chi and transferred it to Mungus, which finally brought him back to consciousness. Filled with joy at seeing her son awake, Maula welcomed him warmly and instructed him to carry Mottrot, whom she accused of laziness.

Maula joined Fangar and the other Hunters as they began their ascent toward the surface. Upon reaching the Scorpion Cave, they encountered resistance from the Crawlers, but the Hunters, now able to create ice, quickly countered their attacks by freezing the blasts. Maula pressed on with her fellow Hunters, overpowering the remaining Crawlers. When Stealthor informed them that all exits from the cave had been sealed, Fangar realized their only option was to ascend further. Maula followed as the Hunters ventured deeper into the cavern. Eventually, Mungus discovered a latch within the Hunter Glacier, and Fangar opened it, unveiling the ancient war machines of the Hunters. Together, the Hunters forged a spiral pathway, making their way toward the Fangs.

The Call of Cavora[]

As Maula, Fangar and Vardy watched their troops march outwards to the rest of Chima, Fangar told them that the Tribes of Chima's lands, their Chi and the warmth inside their skin soon would be theirs, which both of them agreed.

Later, while marching towards rest of Chima, Mottrot tried to tell his mom that he thinks someone's up on the hills above them. However, Maule cut up his sentence and said that he will wake up Mungus, who was sleepwalking. Mottrot tried to warn her mom, only to get a rock thrown at him. Seeing this, Maula wanted Mottrot to stop slacking and protect his brother, only for Mungus to get hit by a rock as well.

Trial by Fire[]

Maula, alongside with the other Hunters, passed through the Falling Jungle while continuing to freeze Chima.

After using the Fire Chi, Lagravis rushed towards the escaping Hunters and knocked Maula's Trunkor out of her hand. Seeing this, Maula climbed on Mungus' back and wanted him to start running, escaping from the Beaver Dam with him.

As the Bear Tribe were sleeping, Maula and some of the Hunters arrived in the Bear Caves and freeze the entire place. However, the Bear Legend Beast melted the whole ice with his roar. Seeing this, Vardy told Maula that he knew they should have waited. Maula told him that there is no need to fight the "Fire Fiends" yet, saying that they could let the Bear Tribe have their village while the everything else in Chima is theirs. Then, they left the village and went some other place to freeze.

Later, after Stealthor told them they should double their speed, Maula ordered the other Mammoths to move the Hunter Glacier triple time.

Wings of Fire[]

The Heart of Cavora[]

When the Tribes of Chima start to overpower the Hunters, Maula suggest to Sir Fangar they surrender, but the Saber-Tooth refuses, as he states the Ice Bears were on the way. Although Maula is unsure if they would show up, Fangar assures her they would due to having a good fight for them. Although she's not seen when the Second Great Illumination occurs, Maula was purified with the rest of her tribe.

Maula is a force of nature, like a hurricane or a blizzard. You always know when she’s around, because she is either yelling at her two sons or smothering them with affection. She is loud, loving, extremely strict, and can be cruel both to her children and her enemies. You never see Maula on her own, she always has one or both of her boys with her. She is extremely protective of Mottrot and Mungus and will react with frightening speed if either one of them is hurt. And no one wants to get in the way of an angry mother mammoth …^[3]

Mother Mammoth[]

As head of the Mammoth Tribe, Maula is a demanding leader—always bossing her non-identical twin sons around. Maula is both overly protective and interfering when it comes to her two children, but while dotes Mungus, she barely notices poor neglected Mottrot.^[4]
