Following the departure of the Source Dragons of Strength, Focus and Life from the Council of Sources, the Source Dragons of Energy, Motion and Flow discussed the fate of the Merged Lands due to the absence of the other sources. The Source Dragon of Flow stated that with their promise to the First Spinjitzu Master broken, it could lead to the end of the current cycle, but the Source Dragon of Motion said that it could also be the end of all cycles, putting the universe in greater danger.

When the Chief Loyalist visited the Shrine of the Seven Sources, the old acolyte told her that one of the Source Dragons has fallen. When she was about to say what would happen when the cycle resets, the Chief Loyalist interrupted her.

After Rontu arrived in the Spectral Lands, Egalt told her that this is not her time and only she can show Riyu the true way, saying that the fate of the current cycle depended on it.

- As of "Chaos Reigns," it is confirmed that there are multiple cycles. However, it is unknown whether the other cycles are prior or upcoming cycles, or whether there are multiple concurrent cycles.
- Cycles do not have a set amount of length.[3]
- From how the Cycles are described by the characters, it is likely a cycle is an iteration of the universe that resets and repeats when the cycle ends.
- Although non-canon, the timeline in "Golden Legend" suggest having gone through a cycle, as the dragon keeper mentioned that the ninja were around when time was named and referred to in the past tense.
- When asked if the Overlord always existed, Chris "Doc" Wyatt stated "Always is a problematic concept in terms of the cycles, but the short answer to [your] question is that he did not always exist."[4]
