Extended[]
While the Ninja complete the Trials of Focus, Lloyd and Arin fight their way to the Well of the Lost. Their greatest obstacle may not be Hollow Ones or the Forbidden Five - it might be each other. A clash with ThunderFang in the skies above the Spectral Lands will determine the future of the Merged Lands. Unforeseen consequences await the Ninja, win or lose, as Ras puts his master's plan into action.[3]
Plot
Plot[]
In the Spectral Lands, Thunderfang continued to channel soul energy, determined to force himself onto the Source Dragons’ council. Meanwhile, Arin and Lloyd blamed themselves for breaking the Unbidden Storm. As they wrestled with their feelings of responsibility, the other ninja gathered in their respective Caves of Bells, pondering their next course of action. Their deliberations were abruptly interrupted when they were besieged by the Spectral Dragonians, led by Zarkt in Mysterium and Kur in Djinjago. Kai expressed his skepticism about the ease of their task, while Nya pointed out the challenge of feeding birds that turned out to be bells. As Kai used his Reveal Blade to destroy the Spectral Dragonians, Nya uses her water powers against them. The coconut copy, feeling inadequate without magic, suddenly has an idea and asks Nya to launch it into the fray. With a bit of hesitation, Nya agrees, and the coconut copy joyfully soars through the air, hitting multiple Spectral Dragonians as Kai destroyed them using his Reveal Blade. As the battle intensifies, Zarkt activates Shatterspin to attempt to shatter the crystals above, prompting Kai to realize their importance to the Focus Dragon. Just as Zarkt headed toward the crystals, Nya intercepted him with Rising Dragon technique. Concurrently, Sora, Frak, Wyldfyre and Riyu see Kur activating Shatterspin to attempt to shatter the crystals above, doing whatever they can to prevent it.
Back beneath the Well of the Lost, Thunderfang continued to draw power from the Source-Henge. Lloyd attempted to use his Elemental Power to restore the Unbidden Storm, but it was Arin who succeeded by using Object Spinjitzu. Together, they summoned and combined the two halves of the Arc Dragon of Focus using the Unbidden Storm, who then greeted the empowered Thunderfang. Mistakenly believing that the Source Dragons had called upon the Focus Arc Dragon, Thunderfang taunted that they must be frightened of his power if they had to send their champion against him. Meanwhile, Lloyd and Arin noticed an odd perspective, realizing they were viewing Thunderfang through the Arc Dragon's heads—one through the purple one (Lloyd), and the other through the tan one (Arin), their eyes glowing to match which half they were seeing through. As Thunderfang approached the Arc Dragon, he boasted of his increased power since their last encounter and launched an attack.
In Mysterium, Kai, Nya, and the coconut copy continue fighting Zarkt and the Spectral Dragonians. Nya notices Thunderfang on the cave wall and realizes that the crystals are connected to the Arc Dragon of Focus, indicating they are seeing through the dragon's eyes. Zarkt tries to attack the crystals with Shatterspin, but Nya counters with Rising Dragon technique. Meanwhile, in Djinjago, the young ninja battle against the Spectral Dragonians and Kur. Frak, distracted by watching Sora, almost confesses his feelings but instead awkwardly admits he ate all the yogurt in the monastery fridge. Sora is taken aback and questions his timing, but he explains it's to clarify any yogurt-related questions later, and she forgives him. As Kur prepares to unleash Shatterspin, Frak throws his Reveal Blade to Wyldfyre so he can use his Quake power to stop Kur. However, Frak is soon distracted by two Dragonians closing in, ultimately getting slammed against the cave wall by Kur's strike. Kur then targets the Focus crystals, but Wyldfyre intervenes with a kick, sending her crashing into the wall.
Thunderfang and the Arc Dragon of Focus remained locked in their battle, with Thunderfang accusing the Arc Dragon of being nothing more than a pawn for the corrupt Source Dragons. Driven by his ambition to become the eighth Source Dragon, Thunderfang vows to unleash Chaos across the Merged Lands, sending bolts of soul energy toward the Arc Dragon, which affects Arin and Lloyd as well. The two soon realize they could feel every hit the Arc Dragon took. They also learn that they can also control the Arc Dragon's movements as it wanted their guidance. Lloyd took charge, but Arin struggles to keep up with Lloyd's commands. This gives Thunderfang the upper hand, as he overpowers the Arc Dragon of Focus, damaging Lloyd and Arin's mechs. As Lloyd struggles to focus, Arin reminds him that ninja never quit. Lloyd insisted that Arin should take charge while he supports from behind, but Arin hesitates, fearing he might fail. Yet, Lloyd instills confidence in him, urging him to focus and assuring him of his trust. With renewed determination, Arin steps forward to lead, as the Spectral Shatter Dragon charges at the Arc Dragon, who successfully performs a counterattack.
Back in Mysterium, Zarkt gains the upper hand against Nya, using Misfortune to attack her. Seeing this, Kai rushes to her aid but is quickly knocked down by Zarkt. Just as Zarkt prepares to finish Nya, Jay arrives in the Mech Dragon and pushes Zarkt away, confronting him directly. A battle ensues, with Jay using the Mech Dragon and his Lightning powers to defeat Zarkt. After the fight, Jay confides in Nya, revealing that her words about him being a hero in the past resonated deeply and he desired to be a better person despite his lost memories, sharing an awkward hug in the process as Kai takes care of the remaining Spectral Dragons and joins them, commending Jay's skills and changing his mind about Jay being was the worst ninja. When Jay was offended by this, Kai deflects the question by blaming it on Cole, insisting that they should go go.
Meanwhile in Djinjago, Kur prepares to destroy the crystals, only to be thwarted by Riyu, who performs Spinjitzu for the first time.
Under Arin's lead, he, Lloyd and the Arc Dragon of Focus manages to push back Thunderfang. The Spectral Shatter Dragon roars as he charges at his opponent, leading to Lloyd and Arin commanding the Arc Dragon of Focus to fire beams of Focus energy from both mouths as well as the Focus medallion to finish the fight, pushing him into the Well of the Lost and sending it plummeting to the ground, which causes Thunderfang, the spectral Forbidden Five and the remaining Spectral Dragonians to vanish, the sky to return to whatever color it should be, and all the Hollow Ones to regain their souls, restoring them.
Lloyd and Arin resurface in their mechs, where the former apologies for struggling to let go sometimes, and the latter decides to rejoin the ninja team. The Arc Dragon of Focus appears and thanks the two for guiding them to victory, but also warns the two ninja that the Source Dragons might be displeased, wishing them well before splitting into its two halves and returning to their slumber.
Arin asks Lloyd if it was okay with him to spend some time with his parents before continuing to be a ninja, to which he agreed before feeling the same headache being felt by every Elemental Master. When asked what's going on, Lloyd tried using his Elemental Power, only for his eyes, hands and power to flicker. The ninja attempt to use the portal gates to return to Ninjago, only to end up scattered across the Merged Lands and unable to open them due to Lord Ras somehow taking control of them. He also managed to trap Master Wu in the protective container inside the Monastery of Gates, taunting him in the process.
It's then revealed that the Source Dragons of Life, Strength and Focus left the Council of Sources, leaving Motion, Flow and Energy to look at the now-darkened symbol of Balance. With the Source Dragons of Focus, Life, and Strength quitting the council and withdrawing their Source Energy, all Elemental Powers across the Merged Lands are now acting up. Flow and Motion then state that with their promise to the First Spinjitzu Master now broken, it threatened to cause the end of all cycles.
With Arin summarizing the situation, he asks Lloyd what they're going to do. As the other ninja looked at the locked portal gates, he holds a leaf as he assures Arin that they'll find a way.

Trivia
Trivia[]
- Lloyd and Arin's eyes turning purple and yellow represent the respective halves of the Arc Dragon of Focus they are looking through.
- This marks the first time a Dragons Rising season has ended on a shot of the heroes rather than ending on a scene with villains.
- Frak's behaviour towards Sora resembles the behaviour Jay had on Skybound, not being able to express his true feelings just like Frak.
- Jay jumping out of his mech and using his powers as he descends down onto Zarkt is framed almost exactly to the ending shot of the Season 3 intro with each ninja using their powers and descending down as they go to hit Thunderfang before the logo appears.
- This could be seen as the visually-symbolic moment Jay got added back onto the ninja roster as the last ninja with Elemental Powers.
- This is the only episode in which a ninja, in this case Nya, performs the Rising Dragon technique in Season 3 Part 2.
- Additionally, this is the only episode in which a ninja is seen as exhausted after using the Rising Dragon technique multiple times.
- When Arin begins to take the lead against Thunderfang, notes from the Cave of Bells' bells can be heard as part of the instrumental, signifying Arin waking up his belief in his abilities like how each half of the Arc Dragon of Focus was awakened.
- In this episode, Jay and Zarkt, both voiced by actor Michael Adamthwaite, fight, but only Jay speaks.
- After Life, Strength and Focus leave the Council of Sources, Motion, Flow and Energy look at the now-darkened symbol of Balance. Before, the colours were still there, but duller due to Balance dying. Now, it's pretty much pitch black, representing the literal loss of balance for all Elemental Powers.
Continuity[]
- This is the first season finale in the franchise where Zane doesn't appear and the sixth season finale where P.I.X.A.L. doesn't appear since her debut, following "The Corridor of Elders," "The Way Back," "The Son of Lilly," "The Power Within," and "Elements of Betrayal."
- This episode marks the second time that the ninja are separated at the end of a season and the first time for Ninjago: Dragons Rising.
- The last time a Ninjago season ended with the ninja being separated was Season 8: Sons of Garmadon, where Kai, Jay, Zane, Cole and Wu were sent to the First Land and Lloyd and Nya were still in Ninjago.
- This time however, the team is scattered across several different realms and are split into 5 different groups:
- Lloyd and Arin end up in the Whispering Wood.
- Kai, Jay and Nya end up in the Land of Madness inside a Quealiche.
- Sora, Riyu, Wyldfyre and Frak end up in the Land of Eternal Dawn.
- Zane and P.I.X.A.L. are currently exploring the Merged Lands.
- Cole is back at the Monastery of Spinjitzu with Barry and Jenny, Geo, the Finders, Mr. Frohicky, Rontu, Jiro and Heatwave.
- This mirrors how the original ninja were separated after the Merge, each scattered to different realms, but this time, the ninja, both new and old, are actually in groups. Cole and Zane were technically in the same realm, that being Imperium.
- The remaining Source Council members compared to those who left could be considered as mirroring the pre-Merge ninja.
- Flow, Motion and Energy remained together, just like Nya, Kai and Jay
- Strength, Life and Focus left, and Cole, Lloyd and Zane are separate from each other
- This mirrors how the original ninja were separated after the Merge, each scattered to different realms, but this time, the ninja, both new and old, are actually in groups. Cole and Zane were technically in the same realm, that being Imperium.
- Lloyd had purple eyes whenever he started to embrace his Oni side both partially and fully in Crystalized, although they were a different purple than the purple used for him seeing through the purple head of the Arc Dragon of Focus.
- When Lloyd loses his powers, the hand he uses to check what's going on with them is his left hand, he also used that hand to check for his powers in "Big Trouble, Little Ninjago" after he lost them in "True Potential."
- Riyu is now the second ninja of the younger generation to perform a full Spinjitzu tornado. The first ninja to do so was Arin in "Truth and Lies".
- In addition, this episode marks the first time Riyu does Spinjitzu and is also the third of the younger generation to perform Spinjitzu, the first was Arin as seen in "The Merge: Part 1" and the second ninja was Sora as seen in "The Final Game".
- This episode marks the first time Kai has exchanged words with Jay since The Merge and the first time in an episode since "Roots".
- Additionally, this makes Zane the only member on the original ninja team to not exchange words with Jay.
- Ironically, according to the book, Skills and Powers, Zane was the first ninja with whom Jay met after the Merge, though Zane was unconscious at the time.
- Additionally, this makes Zane the only member on the original ninja team to not exchange words with Jay.
- This episode marks the first time that Lloyd has hugged one of his students, that student being Arin, after he declared that after helping Lloyd defeat Thunderfang that he is a ninja and won't quit like he said he would in "For Whom the Bell Tolls".
- This is similar to the many times Wu has hugged his students as seen numerous times during the original series.
- Also, this episode marks the first time Jay and Nya have hugged each other since the Merge and the first time in an episode since "Roots".
- The music that plays when Jay comes back to help Kai and Nya fight Zarkt is the same music that played in "Inside the Maze" at the end of Jay and Nya's match during the Tournament of the Sources.
- When Kai lets slip that he used to call Jay the worst ninja, Jay doesn't try to say he isn't a ninja this time. This reflects how he began to accept that he was a ninja at some point after "The Vault of Focus."
- After performing Spinjitzu for the first time, Riyu strikes a similar pose to his mentor Rontu when she introduced the Rising Dragon technique by name.
Errors[]
- During the fight in the Mysterium cave, Kai has one of Lloyd's grunts.
- Although Fritz is credited, he does not speak in this episode.
- Nya's spear is missing from her back in some scenes of the end of the episode while she has it in other scenes.
- When Kur is looking at the crystals, her armor can be seen going through her arm.
