Overview
- This article is about the Source Dragon. For the set, see 71822 Source Dragon of Motion.
The Source Dragon of Motion is one of the seven Source Dragons. Hence her name, she represents the source of Motion, serving as the foundation for all the Elemental Powers related to her source.
History
History[]
Background[]
The Source Dragon of Motion, among the seven Source Dragons, played a crucial role in maintaining balance across the realms. Each Source Dragon represented a unique source,[7] with the Source Dragon of Motion specifically embodying motion. As a result, the emergence of Elemental Powers was influenced by the Source Dragons.[8] One fateful day, the First Spinjitzu Master approached the Source Dragon of Motion, along with her fellow dragons, and humbly implored them to willingly contribute their dragon energy. This request was made in order to create the Dragon Cores, which were instrumental in averting the Coalescence,[9] an imminent event wherein all realms would merge into a single world, a consequence brought about by the immense power of the Source Dragons.[10]
When Thunderfang, the dragon of Chaos, attacked the City of Temples after being rejected from the council of the Source Dragons, the council decided to send the mortal avatar of the Source Dragon of Focus, the Arc Dragon of Focus to stop the Chaos dragon. After completing its task, the avatar of the Focus Source Dragon was split into two halves, which were put into a deep slumber.
Dragons Rising, Season 2[]
Beyond the Phantasm Cave[]
Lloyd had been desperately seeking guidance from the Source Dragons to find a way to counter Shatterspin. The Source Dragons, including the Source Dragon of Motion, appeared before him in their void. Upon spotting Lloyd, the Source Dragon of Motion turned to the Source Dragon of Energy and inquired if this mortal was the one who had freed him from his long captivity. The Source Dragon of Energy confirmed that Lloyd was indeed the one. However, a sense of concern washed over the Source Dragon of Motion as she sensed the imminent danger that mortals posed.
Recognizing the Green Ninja's role as a conduit for his energy, the Source Dragon of Energy emphasized that Lloyd was no ordinary mortal. Though aware of their mandate to refrain from directly interfering in mortal affairs, the Source Dragon of Motion was swayed by the Source Dragon of Energy's plea. The Source Dragon of Motion made a momentous decision: they would all initiate Lloyd's journey, but he would have to navigate it on his own. She then unleashed a powerful beam of Motion energy, enveloping Lloyd and granting him a vision of the exact location that the ninja needed to venture towards.
The Shape of Motion[]
After the murder of three Arc Dragons, the Source Dragon of Motion became aware of the situation due to the influence of her and the Life Source Dragon over the fallen dragons. Recognizing the ninja's strong connection with the Source Dragons, the Source Dragon of Motion took it upon herself to warn the ninja about the impending danger posed by the killers and seek justice for the fallen dragons. However, Motion’s appearance in a smaller form of her mortal body led to Lloyd's distrust of her, prompting the Source Dragon to reveal her full mortal form to prove her sincerity.
The Source Dragon of Motion was concerned about the potential threat to the Source Dragons, as two of her peers had already been killed or captured before the Merge. Lloyd then informed Motion about the map that the Matriarch of the Mountain Dragons possessed before her demise, which the Source Dragon recognized as a map to the City of Temples. She went on to explain the significance of the Tournament of the Sources to the ninja, emphasizing the necessity for them to participate in the tournament in order to bring the killers to justice.
Enter the City of Temples (flashback)[]
The Source Dragon of Motion told the ninja that they should find a master to guide them during the Tournament of the Sources, promoting Lloyd to seek out Dragon Masters Egalt and Rontu.
Elements of Betrayal[]
Following the Tournament of the Sources, the Source Dragon of Motion appeared before Lloyd, catching him off guard with her arrival. Lloyd expressed his regret for not meeting her expectations. However, she clarified that the purpose of participating in the Tournament was to unveil the identity of the threat responsible for the demise of the three Arc Dragons, which was the Forbidden Five, a task that Lloyd successfully accomplished. Despite this, Lloyd lamented that the Forbidden Five managed to escape. The Source Dragon of Motion reassured him that their plans have been temporarily thwarted and emphasized that, more crucially, he prevented Ras from reaching the Source Dragons. She acknowledged that her kind should now be aware of the threats within the Merged Realms facing the Source Dragons.
The Source Dragon of Motion encouraged Lloyd not to doubt his abilities, reminding him that Sora emerged victorious in the Tournament of the Sources and that the ninja had proven themselves deserving of the Source Dragons' gifts. She expressed that her kind now owed Lloyd a significant debt, explaining the Source Dragons' commitment to honoring their debts. To symbolize this bond, she used one of her scales to create the Icon of the Source Dragon of Motion for Lloyd, instructing him to call upon her in a time of true need. With that, the Source Dragon of Motion left.
Dragons Rising, Season 3[]
Casket of Bones[]
Upon learning of Thunderfang's ambition to become a Source Dragon, the Source Dragons convened to deliberate on whether to intervene. The Source Dragon of Strength argued against involvement in mortal matters, fearing it would taint their powers and weaken them. In contrast, the Source Dragon of Motion insisted that Thunderfang posed a genuine threat to their kind. The Source Dragon of Life pointed out that their previous engagement with mortals, particularly in aiding the First Spinjitzu Master and making him a promise, had led to this predicament. The Source Dragon of Strength reminded them that he had first opposed granting gifts to the First Spinjitzu Master. The Source Dragon of Motion recalled that the decision had been contentious, ultimately swayed by the late Source Dragon of Balance, who had favored the mortals. With Balance gone, they now faced the challenge of reaching a consensus on their own. The Source Dragon of Motion asserted that summoning the Arc Dragon of Focus was the only way to finally defeat Thunderfang. However, the Source Dragon of Focus declined to assist, regretting over past involvement with mortals, which had only led to pain and danger for the Source Dragons. She suggested that they should completely withdraw from the mortal world, but the Source Dragon of Motion countered that it was too late for that, warning that Thunderfang possessed more power than they realized and could infiltrate the council to wreak havoc. Despite this, the Source Dragon of Focus remained firm in her refusal. The Source Dragon of Motion reminded her that mortals could summon the Arc Dragon of Focus without their help, a claim that the Source Dragon of Strength deemed impossible. Yet, the Source Dragon of Motion insisted that the task could be done. Just then, the Source Dragon of Strength revealed that Lloyd had been listening in on their conversation upon sensing him.
Chaos Reigns[]
The ninja's choice to awaken the Arc Dragon of Focus to face Thunderfang had resulted in a fallout among the Source Dragons. The Source Dragons of Motion, Flow, and Energy stayed behind while the Source Dragons of Strength, Life, and Focus decided to withdraw from the Council of Sources. The Source Dragon of Flow criticized the ninja's audacity in commanding the Arc Dragon of Focus without their permission, deeming the act highly improbable. However, the Source Dragon of Motion defended the ninja's actions, arguing that while they may have been improper, they ultimately protected the council from the threat posed by Thunderfang, asserting that Lloyd made a wise choice. However, the Source Dragon of Energy lamented the consequences for the mortals, emphasizing that the absence of the Source Dragons of Focus, Life, and Strength has thrown the balance of Elemental Powers into disarray, which will inevitably lead to chaos for all Elemental Masters and their powers. The Source Dragon of Flow further lamented the breach of their promise to the First Spinjitzu Master, implying that their brethren's actions could signify the end of the current cycle. Additionally, the Source Dragon of Motion stated that it jeopardizes all cycles, believing that the universe has never faced a more perilous threat.

Clues and Suspects[]
Lloyd was knocked unconscious by Zeatrix, which resulted in him being in a coma and experience visions. In one of his visions, the Source Dragon of Motion chased the Wolf Mask Claw Warriors, Zeatrix, and Arin away and obliterated the Blood Moon. Lloyd said he had failed the Source Dragon by losing the tournament and not having discovered who murdered the Arc Dragons, but she told Lloyd that he had to win.
The Shatter Dragon[]
As Thunderfang battled the ninja, he inquired about Lloyd's role as the conduit for a particular Source Dragon. Thunderfang speculated whether Lloyd was meant to be the conduit of the Source Dragon of Motion, referring to her as an ever-busy entity.

Personality
Personality[]
Unlike most of her brethren, the Source Dragon of Motion appears to be quite aware of the danger her kind is at from the mortals. This concern of hers only grew with the deaths of three Arc Dragons that were connected to both her and the Source Dragon of Life, as they were killed by an unknown entity, which led her to take the initiative and approach Lloyd Garmadon and his team, as they had proved to possess a strong connection to the source, so she can recruit them to solve the murders. After the Ninja managed to discover the identity of the killers (who were Nokt and Rox), while also thwarting their plans and preventing Ras from using the stolen elements to reach the Source Dragons, Motion recognized Lloyd to be worthy of her trust and that the Source Dragons were in debt to him, giving him a Dragon Icon so he could call her once whenever necessary. She's described by Thunderfang as an incessant busybody.
The Ninja's worthiness (especially Lloyd's) inspired the Source Dragon of Motion to try to convince the other Source Dragons to help them if necessary, something that was unavoidable to her, as Thunderfang was trying to steal enough souls so he could become a Source Dragon himself and invade their council. However, the Source Dragon of Strength's low opinion on mortals and the regret the Source Dragons of Focus and Life developed from their previous interventions led to a deadlock on the subject, even if the Source Dragon of Motion replied the Ninja could very well summon the Arc Dragon of Focus themselves. That statement shows how much the Source Dragon of Motion has faith on the Ninja and believes they can do what other Source Dragons think is impossible for any mortal.
Although the Ninja went against the Council of Sources by awakening the Arc Dragon of Focus to use against Thunderfang without their consent (especially from the Source Dragon of Focus), the Source Dragon of Motion (along with Energy and Flow) saw that action as a necessity for their own survival and the Merged Realms. This caused a much greater strife between the already divided council, which prompted three of the Sources (Strength, Focus, and Life) to leave, an act that concerned Motion and the other two remaining Sources about the consequences regarding Elemental Powers.
