The Spectral Dragonians siege upon Mysterium before Arin discovers Kur is leading them. Suddenly, everyone watches some citizens get lifted and hollowed like the others. With the spectrals being invisible, Arin holds up the Returning Blade and discovers they can be seen through it. He then sees the spectrals are grabbing the citizens and removing their souls for Kur to collect them with the flute she was holding. Since his weapon is made from Prismatic Steel, Arin tries to fight one, only to end up breaking the blade.

Aboard the Temple Bounty, Jay tells Lloyd and Nya that he'll do the talking when they get to the Land of Madness, but are briefly interrupted by Wyldfyre's piloting, with Nya falling onto Jay at one point, before criticizing her, but she blows them off as it is her ship. Jay soon explains about how he ended up in the Administration after the Merge, having followed some agents, who told him he was an agent and they were told by the Administrator to return him to the Department of Realm Reassignment. Unfortunately, with his memory loss, he ended up sending people they recover to random places, that included Barry and Jenny Nived, all filed in reassignment logs in triplicate every night for weekly and monthly reports, and corporate memos. Wyldfyre questions why they're not heading to the Land of Lee, where Barry and Jenny were sent before Jay tells her it can be accessible by air or boat, but the real entrance is going through the Realm Reassignment area before Lloyd notices a cake that Jay claims that he hopes they don't use it.

Meanwhile, Arin, Sora, Ras, Gandalaria, and several villagers flee from the invading Spectral Dragonians while Arin uses the Returning Blade to track them. Despite Ras insisting that helping the villagers is not their mission, Arin refuses to abandon them. As more villagers are hollowed by the Spectral Dragonians, Arin attempts to fight back but discovers that only half of the Returning Blade remains, making it ineffective. Searching for the missing half, Sora locates it and uses her Technology powers to fuse the two pieces together with a lamp, creating a Prismatic Lamp. After some confusion, Gandalaria activates the lamp with her crystal ball, causing the invisible Spectral Dragonians to become visible. Realizing there are far more enemies than expected, the group retreats. Although Ras urges everyone to leave and continue searching for the Underworld, Gandalaria reveals that she possesses a map leading there. Before they can continue, a Spectral Dragonian attacks her. Ras orders Arin and Sora to protect Gandalaria, insisting that she is essential to their quest, while Gandalaria confidently claims she can take care of herself despite becoming stuck upside down inside a barrel.

The Temple Bounty arrives in the Land of Madness, where Wyldfyre anchors the ship to a nearby rock. As the ninja recover from the rough landing, Lloyd, Nya, Jay, and Wyldfyre head toward the Administration building to search for answers. Lloyd remarks that the building looks surprisingly dull from the outside, while Nya jokes that merely looking at it makes her forget everything about it. When Lloyd asks how they plan to sneak inside, Wyldfyre suggests blasting through the wall. Jay instead decides to rely on deception, disguising himself as an Administration Agent and convincing the others to follow his lead. Entering the Administration, the group is immediately spotted by Agent Underwood and Allen. Jay pretends he has brought the ninja as new recruits to work at the Administration and claims they are heading to Guest Services to receive temporary badges. Although Underwood briefly considers the explanation, he quickly recognizes Jay as a wanted fugitive who abandoned his post as an Agent. The disguise fails, and the Agents prepare to confront the group.

As the group protects Gandalaria, she fends off a Spectral Dragonian by throwing banana peels from her crystal ball. One of the peels causes Arin to slip, but he quickly recovers. Before they can escape, Gandalaria is seized by a Spectral Dragonian, which extracts her soul for Kur to capture in his magical flute. Hollowed, Gandalaria drops her crystal ball, which Sora catches. Moments later, sunrise forces Kur and the Spectral Dragonians to retreat, revealing that their powers are limited to the night. While discussing what happened, Arin realizes that the Spectral Lands' influence only extends over the village after dark. Sora wonders whether the hollowed villagers can be restored by recovering their stolen life-forces, but Ras dismisses the idea, blaming Arin's decision to help the villagers for their failure to obtain the Source Dragon Icons. He also laments that, without Gandalaria's guidance, they have lost their route to the Underworld. As the hollowed Gandalaria wanders nearby, Sora remembers that Cole and Zane mentioned the Monastery that recently appeared in the realm. She suggests taking Gandalaria there in hopes of helping her recover and finding her map to the Underworld. Arin agrees with the plan, and although reluctant, Ras accompanies them in search of the Monastery.

Meanwhile, Jay, Lloyd, Nya, and Wyldfyre are imprisoned in a holding cell within the HR Department after Jay's cover is exposed. Although Lloyd and Nya criticize Jay's reckless plan, Jay reveals that getting arrested was intentional, believing it was the fastest way to reach the Administration's inner offices. He explains that once they escape, they will already be close to the area they need to investigate. While searching for a way out, Jay notices Agent Etha, a Merlopian employee, working alone nearby. Pretending to be interested in her favorite subject, interpretive dance ethnography, he keeps her talking as she enthusiastically explains the traditions of an elaborate dance performance. As Etha demonstrates the dance while blindfolded, Jay quietly removes her access card from her pocket without her noticing. Using the stolen access card, Jay unlocks the cell and leads Lloyd, Nya, and Wyldfyre out of the HR Department, allowing the group to continue infiltrating the Administration's offices. He briefly returns to the locker room to retrieve a pair of Agent Leopold's notoriously unwashed gym shorts. He places the foul-smelling shorts into the Administration's tube capsule system, causing the odor to spread throughout the building. The overwhelming stench forces Agents to abandon their posts and summon the detox crew, creating a distraction that allows the ninja to move through the offices undetected. As they make their escape, Wyldfyre imitates Agent Etha's ceremonial dance and accidentally activates an alarm by colliding with a control panel. The commotion alerts Agents Underwood and Allen, who quickly recognize the ninja and corner them once again. Before the Agents can apprehend the group, Lloyd uses the spreading stench to his advantage, forcing Underwood and Allen to uncover their noses. Overcome by the smell, the two Agents collapse, allowing Jay, Lloyd, Nya, and Wyldfyre to escape deeper into the Administration.

Arin, Sora, Ras, and the hollowed Gandalaria arrive at the Monastery of Mysterium on their motorcycles, hoping that returning Gandalaria to her home will help restore her memories. Upon entering the Monastery, they unknowingly trigger its security system. A series of magical traps, including rakes that repeatedly strike the intruders, activates throughout the entrance. A holographic recording of Gandalaria appears, congratulating herself on creating the traps to deter trespassers, especially Janet. Moments later, another security measure activates as the floor beneath Arin, Sora, Ras, and Gandalaria gives way, causing all four of them to sink into the Monastery's hidden passageways.

Jay, Lloyd, Nya, and Wyldfyre continue fleeing through the Administration but are soon surrounded by more Agents, including Underwood and Allen. Rather than fighting, Jay improvises another distraction by announcing an office birthday celebration. Using a cake that Lloyd has been carrying and a birthday card, he convinces the nearby Agents that it is time to celebrate and sign the card. As the Agents become preoccupied with the unexpected party, Nya encourages the confusion by calling for plates and napkins. The distraction allows the ninja to slip away unnoticed while the Agents argue over whose birthday is being celebrated. After successfully losing their pursuers, Jay decides that the group needs new disguises and leads Lloyd, Nya, and Wyldfyre toward the Administration's Lost and Found department to find a change of clothes.

Arin, Sora, Ras, and the hollowed Gandalaria continue sinking through the Monastery's magical floor. Unable to use her Technology powers inside the ancient building, Sora watches as Arin experiments with Gandalaria's crystal ball in an attempt to stop their descent. Although his attempts initially produce unpredictable magical effects, including clouds of green smoke and floating fish, one of the spells creates enough floating fish for the group to pull themselves free from the magical trap. After escaping, the four enter the Monastery's library to continue their search for a route to the Underworld. While searching through the collection, Sora discovers Gandalaria's map, giving the group the lead they need to continue their journey.

Jay, Lloyd, Nya, and Wyldfyre, now disguised in clothing from the Administration's Lost and Found, reach the Department of Reassignment. Jay accesses the reassignment system to open a portal out of the Administration. While waiting for the portal to activate, he creates false identities for the group, posing Lloyd and Wyldfyre as siblings and himself and Nya as a married couple to avoid suspicion. Before they can leave, Agents Underwood and Allen track them down and open fire. Allen attempts to shut down the portal by disabling the control monitors, but Wyldfyre leaps into action, using her Heat powers to overload the main monitor and force the portal to open. Although Underwood shoots her, Nya rescues Wyldfyre by using Spinjitzu to reach the monitors and drive Allen back. Jay escapes through the portal first, followed by Nya and Wyldfyre. Lloyd remains behind just long enough to evade Underwood's gunfire before diving through the portal moments before it closes. Frustrated, Underwood and Allen realize the ninja have escaped. As the lights suddenly fail, mist from the Spectral Lands begins creeping into the Administration as the Spectral Dragonians arrived.

Sora leaves the hollowed Gandalaria safely inside the Monastery of Mysterium's library while she, Arin, and Ras prepare to continue their journey. Arin promises that they will one day return to save both Gandalaria and the villagers who were hollowed by the Spectral Dragonians. As Arin and Sora leave the library, Sprite emerges and quietly approaches Gandalaria. Watching from the monastery courtyard, Arin and Sora are puzzled by Ras' behavior, while Ras is briefly summoned by his mysterious master through their void. After returning, Ras coldly declares that Gandalaria has already fulfilled her purpose and insists that there is no reason to remain. With Gandalaria left behind in the Monastery, Ras leads Arin and Sora onward, and the trio departs to continue their search for the Underworld.

Continuity[]

  • The candy that Etha throws during her segment about Merlopian Dance Rituals and Celebrations looks very similar to the Pillow mint that first showed up in "Unsinkable" in the cabin area on the Hydro Bounty.
  • Arin's remark about Kur shows that the ninja still assume that the Forbidden Five died after Thunderfang betrayed them. This was first mentioned by Kai, who joked that Thunderfang ate the Forbidden Five, highlighting how Thunderfang absorbs souls.
  • In Jay's flashback in the Administration, when Arin appears on his screen before reassigning his parents, Arin's whereabouts are listed as unknown.

  • In Jay's flashback, his office in the Administration is located in a partitioned workspace; however, in his flashback in "Inside the Maze," his office is in a separate room, most likely located right near the Department of Reassignment as he could hear Prentis calling him in "The Administration."
    • It is possible that his office was in the cubicle area before Season 1 and was moved into the later office sometime after that.
  • In the first shot of Ras inside his master's void, his eyes are not glowing.
