Thunderfang's release was an event in which the Forbidden Five released Thunderfang from his prison in exchange for more power. However, the Shatter Dragon of Chaos betrayed the five and consumed their souls, breaking free to wreak havoc on the First Land. Thunderfang would ultimately be defeated by Arin using healing elixir, releasing the souls of the Oni and sending the dragon to the Spectral Lands.

Prelude[]

After the Forbidden Five collected the final two Prismatic Blades, they cut the final two chains that hold Thunderfang in his prison, finally releasing him after a millennia of imprisonment. Awaiting their gift, Rox demanded that Thunderfang grant her and the rest of the Five the powers he had promised them. However, the Shatter Dragon revealed that he never intended to honor his end of the deal after being free and derides them as "fools" for their naivety, mocking them as being pathetic if they truly trusted him. The Five were horrified, angered, and shocked by their master's deception and betrayal. But before they could do anything else, Thunderfang gleefully drained their souls from their bodies in order to strengthen himself after a millennia of imprisonment, causing great physical pain to the Five as they screamed in agony. Thunderfang finally devoured the group’s souls, killing them and leaving their corpses on the floor of his prison. Strengthened, Thunderfang roared loudly and began to emerge from the depths of his prison to exact vengeance upon the Source Dragons once more, with the Five's bodies left to be crushed beneath the rubble.

Thunderfang's Release and Death[]

Emerging from his underground prison, Thunderfang immediately set in motion series of chaotic storms across the entirety of the Merged Lands as he roared that the Source Dragons would rue the day they had rejected him. The Ninja, who had sought and failed to stop Thunderfang's release, now stood opposed to the Shatter Dragon and his intended reign. Although they outnumbered him ten to one, the ninja's attacks all failed to leave any lasting impact against the titanic dragon.

As the battle progressed, Thunderfang sensed that Lloyd was a Source Dragon Conduit and sought to drain his soul to increase his own powers. Although Lloyd was able to narrowly evade Thunderfang's attempt the first time, the remaining Dragonians under Thunderfang's thrall were able to keep the ninja busy enough for Thunderfang to try again and successfully absorb the Master of Life’s soul. Upon consuming his soul, Thunderfang roared towards the heavens, proclaiming his deed to the Source Dragons and threatening that he would do the same to all of them as well.

On the ground, the other ninja slowly began to whittle down Thunderfang's Dragonians while Arin paused, having had a realization after hearing the Shatter Dragon’s proclamation. Pulling out the bottle of healing elixir, Arin recalled what the departed ninja from the Spectral Lands had told him - that the elixir helped souls move on. Drawing strength from the memories of his friends and the love he shared for them, Arin transferred Object Spinjitzu to the bottle and struck Thunderfang in the head with it. Almost immediately, the elixir began to lapidify the Chaos Dragon who reacted in shock.

With his body transformed into stone, Thunderfang collapsed, breathing out a final, "Impossible" as the souls he had absorbed over the many millennia escaped from his body. With one final breath however, Thunderfang drew back in the souls of the Forbidden Five before exploding, ending his life.

Aftermath[]

After Thunderfang's defeat, the Oni and Lloyd's soul were released. Some of the Oni moved on, while Lloyd's soul returned back to his body. Also, the corrupted Dragonians are freed from Thunderfang's corruption. After the battle, Arin and Ras left the ninja, which Sora also joined.

After being killed by Arin, Thunderfang's soul was banished to the Spectral Lands, where he meets Morro, but they are ambushed by four Soul Suckers. Morro offers to protect Thunderfang but the dragon became arrogantly miffed that he even needed protection, claiming that he can handle himself. He then absorbs the souls of the Soul Suckers. Morro is shocked by the dragon’s power, stating that it is impossible, but the latter claimed that anything in the afterlife was possible. Thunderfang then absorbs Morro's soul as well before cackling gleefully as he starts to set his plan in motion to become a "Source Dragon".
