Overview
- For the current Matriarch of the Mountain Tribe, see Eridany.
The Matriarch of the Mountain Dragons was a dragon Matriarch that led a tribe of Mountain Dragons. She was killed by Nokt and Rox who was possessing Jordana's body so they could use her Dragon Crown to open the portal to the Nether-Space to free the rest of the Forbidden Five, leaving behind her newborn heiress.
History
History[]
Background[]
The Dragon Matriarch harbored animosity towards humans, preventing her from experiencing the full potential of her kind's abilities, including Sparks. At some point in her life, she succeeded the previous Arc Dragon of the Mountain Dragons to become the new leader of her tribe in the Land of the Three Mountains. Following the Merge, which brought together the Sixteen Realms with Ninjago, the Matriarch struggled to remain isolated and hidden.[3]
The New Heroes[]
Frogs, Bees and Dragon Hunters[]
The Matriarch called Riyu, and told him to come home before it gets dark, however, Riyu reaffirmed to her that he'll come back before it gets dark, and turned the statement into a promise.
Dragons Rising, Season 1[]
The Merge: Part 2[]
The Matriarch stumbled upon the Riyu and the ninja aboard the Destiny's Bounty, rescuing them just as the ship was about to crash. However, upon seeing the presence of the ninja with Riyu, she accused them of being dragon hunters like the Claws of Imperium, who were hunting Riyu's herd. Riyu defended the ninja, vehemently refuting the Matriarch's allegations, but the Matriarch remained dubious since Riyu is too young to understand how things work.
In an effort to prove their innocence, the ninja explained that they had come solely to warn the dragons of the Claws of Imperium. The Matriarch, somewhat mollified by this explanation, offered the ninja a chance to redeem themselves by saving the herd from the Claw Hunters. However, during the confrontation, the dragon hunters suddenly waylaid the Matriarch, making her their prime target. Fortunately, Lloyd remembered Riyu's unique abilities and suggested that the Matriarch channel her energy into him as well, thus allowing him to perform a dragon-powered Spinjitzu and defeat the hunters, thereby freeing the Matriarch Dragon.
As soon as she was freed, the Dragon Matriarch proceeded to relate the arduous struggles she and the herd had faced ever since the Merge. With their home discovered, the Matriarch declared that the herd must relocate to a more secure location. However, Riyu, having formed a bond with the ninja, decided to accompany them on their adventures. While she believed this to be a rash decision on Riyu's part, the Matriarch saw it as an opportunity to start a deeper connection between Elemental Masters and dragons. She also assured Lloyd that Riyu would always know how to find his herd whenever he needed them. And with that, the Dragon Matriarch and the herd leave the Three Peaks.
Dragons Rising, Season 2[]
The Final Game (flashback)[]
After the attack by the Claws, the Dragon Matriarch and the herd relocated elsewhere. At some point, the Matriarch gave birth to Eridany. One evening, at some point after the Ritual of the Blood Moon, the Dragon Matriarch was sleeping alone in a forest. She was ambushed by Nokt and Jordana (who was possessed by Rox), who used Shatterspin to knock the Matriarch's crown off her head and take it for themselves. The two then used the martial art once again, severely injuring the Matriarch. After the two evil siblings left, the Dragon Matriarch used her remaining strength to get to the Land of Madness, while her herd relocated to the World Forest.
The Shape of Motion[]
The Matriarch flew over Arin, Sora, and Riyu while they were driving from the Administration, and crashed somewhere near the Cragling Village, injured. The group brought her to the village hoping she could be saved, but she died due to her injuries and had her soul sent to the Spectral Lands. However, she gave the ninja a map to the City of Temples where the Tournament of the Sources would be held and told Lloyd that the Source Dragons were in danger. The ninja then find her child and take her to the herd to be the next leader. The Source Dragon of Motion later appeared to the ninja and told them that two other Arc Dragons had also been killed and their crowns stolen.

Trivia
Trivia[]
- According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the Dragon Matriarch wasn't a Source Dragon,[4] despite the characters labeling her as one in "The Merge: Part 2."
- When asked if the Matriarch isn't Source Dragons despite being pictured on a scroll that mentions them, Kevin Burke replied it's because the drawing is just a representation of a Source Dragon since they were believed to be myths and few have barely seen a Source Dragon.[5]
- The reason the Dragon Matriarch could do Sparks like the Source Dragons without being one is because her rank as Matriarch makes her possess a high-level of dragon energy.[6]
- The Dragon Matriarch's powers came from the Source Dragon of Life.[2]
- She was the first known Arc Dragon to be named after her dragon tribe, rather than her domain.
- She is the largest Mountain Dragon seen so far, being considerably larger than every member of her herd.
