Enter the City of Temples

Synopsis[]

The Ninja reach the gateway to the Tournament of Sources only to discover they have not been invited; Kai and Bonzle evade the remaining Forbidden Five as they try to escape the Nether-Space.^[1]

Netflix: The Ninja get a big surprise when they arrive at the Tournament of the Sources, while Kai and Bonzle contend with the Forbidden Five in the Nether-Space.

9Go: When the Ninja are not invited to the Tournament of Sources, they break into the City of Temples to earn their entry.

Extended: The Ninja reach the gateway to the Tournament of Sources only to discover they have not been invited. To break into the City of Temples, they must ascend the plateau, scaling impossible heights and battling high-tech security forces only to find themselves at the center of opening ceremonies. Meanwhile, Kai and Bonzle evade the remaining Forbidden Five as they try to escape the Nether-Space.^[2]

Plot[]

Many Elemental Masters in the Merged Realms receive an invitation to the Tournament of the Sources, including a supposedly familiar figure.

Elsewhere, Wyldfyre and Nya scare off three Lava-Tides from stealing a mech in Kreel's Junkyard, the former's attacks almost setting fire to it, until Nya doses the flames. Both of them talk about their emotions surrounding Kai's banishment to the Nether-Space. Meanwhile in the Nether-Space, Kai and Bonzle try to hide from three members of the Forbidden Five.

At the monastery, Arin bakes a pie while telling Sora that he got the recipe from his old friend Frak. He tells her he wants to bake everyone a goodbye pie before they go to compete in the Tournament of the Sources. Sora asks him why he isn't coming, and he tells her that the Tournament is for Elemental Masters only and since he doesn't have Elemental Powers, he can't compete.

Lloyd travels to see Rontu and Egalt to fetch Zane and find a master for the ninja in the Tournament of the Sources. When he arrives, he finds Zane training, and eventually perform Rising Dragon technique. Lloyd then asks if Egalt and Rontu would be their masters in the tournament, but they decline. They tell Lloyd he should be the master, causing Lloyd to express the fact that he thinks he isn't ready. After a short fight, Lloyd defeats both Dragon Masters, realizing that he's ready to be a master himself.

Back in the monastery, Arin tells Lloyd that he isn't coming to the tournament, but Lloyd tells him they need him there so he can be a detective, to find out who stole the Dragon Horns while the others compete.

The ninja soon arrive to the entrance of the City of Temples, where they watch Elemental Masters such as Euphrasia enter through an elevator. Upon trying to enter, they meet Bleckt. He tells them that since they didn't receive an invitation, they are not permitted to enter the city and demands they leave. Instead of accepting defeat, the ninja wait and eventually attempt to fly upwards to the city on their dragons, and by hooking Arin's Off-Road Buggy to the elevator that Kizzy is riding up in. However, the robotic guards of the tournament intercept them, and a fight begins. Other than Arin and Riyu, the other ninja successfully make it to the top where they meet Roby, the Games Master of the tournament. Overruling Bleckt's order for the guards to arrest the ninja, Roby admires the disruption they made as it had also been televised, and personally invites them to compete since he has no idea why they weren't formally invited. Elsewhere, Riyu and Arin get captured by the guards in the city, until they run into Arin's old friend Frak.

Trivia[]

• This episode has had it's release dates in several countries delayed multiple times.
  • Australian TV Channel 9Go! was going to air the episode on July 6, 2024, but it was replaced with a Season 11: Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu episode.^[4]
  • The Finnish TV Channel Nelonen had it's release date set for July 2, but it was also moved to an unknown date.^[5]

Continuity[]

• This episode marks the first appearance of Tox and Mr. Pale in Dragons Rising and the fourth and fifth named characters besides the Ninja from the original series to return. The other characters are:
  • Gulch from Master of the Mountain who appeared in "Wyldly Inappropriate."
  • The Mechanic from Skybound who appeared in "The Mech Master."
  • Fugi-Dove from Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu who appeared in "The Blood Moon."
  • Tox and Mr. Pale were both introduced in Tournament of Elements.
  • This also marks Tox and Mr. Pale's first appearance since "Green Destiny" and their first appearance in WildBrain animation.
• The way Nya points out Euphrasia while Zane is listing off Elemental Masters that could be a threat to the Ninja is similar to when the Ninja were missing Zane in "Home" after the Monastery of Spinjitzu was burnt down and Nya says "Zane?" with Jay giving a response similar to the one Zane gives Nya in this episode.
• The elevator theme from "Never Trust a Snake" briefly plays when Kizzy is going up from the waterfall to the tournament.

Errors[]

• In the flashback of the Source Dragon of Motion, Nya is wearing the wrong suit.
• When Roby was talking to the ninja, the appearance of Zane's Dragon Hook looked similar to Kai's, even though it was meant to look like Nya's.
• Egalt's left eye seems perfectly fine, instead of grayed out like it was after Arin accidentally damaged it in "To Mysterium".
  • However, it is unknown if this was indeed a mistake, or the eye healed in the time that has passed between "Rising Ninja" and "Enter the City of Temples", as Egalt himself was unsure if the eye would heal, or not^[7].
