The Ritual of Unrooting, also known as the Rite of Unrooting, is a ritual performed by the Green Ninja in the Whispering Wood's temple to maintain the forest's power and unlock their True Potential.

For generations, when the current Elemental Master of Life transitions from childhood into adolescence, they hear the call of the Whispering Wood so they could perform the Ritual of Unrooting, unlocking their True Potential as the Green Ninja, sustaining the life force of the wood's inhabitants, and purifying the Source Energy that flows through all lands and people. The temple's location remains hidden to the Arc Dragon of Life and the rest of the Whispering Wood, with the current Elemental Master of Life needing to find it in some way. Upon reaching it and using their Elemental Power to open it, it blocks off everyone else, meaning that the current Green Ninja must face the ritual alone, meaning that some passed, while others failed and died.[1] In the current cycle, Lloyd became the Elemental Master of Life. However, due to the effects of the Tomorrow's Tea, which he used to defeat the Grundle, he aged artificially and missed the call of the Whispering Wood. Consequently, when the Source Dragons of Focus, Life, and Strength left the Council of Sources, they withdrew their Source Energy, leading to an imbalance in Elemental Powers that the Ritual of Unrooting could not rectify, as Lloyd had not undergone it. The withdrawal of the Source Dragon of Life further accelerated the decline of the Whispering Wood. Stranded in the forest by Lord Ras, Lloyd planned to complete the Ritual of Unrooting so he could restore balance to the Merged Realms and rectify the disrupted Elemental Powers.[2]

Ritual[]

Upon entering, Lloyd would get restrained by roots that wrapped all around him, first meeting a physical manifestation of his young self who showed the symbols of the seven Source Dragons and what seemed to be disks representing 18 realms until one of them went red and flew away. Young Lloyd told summoned multiple Trees of Life and told him to "get to the root of the mystery". Lloyd was then forcibly dragged underneath, making him see tree roots give nutrients and water to a root that looked different than the others before it too joined its brethren in the water.

Lloyd was then called back up to the surface and go on to meet another physical manifestation of himself, this one representing the age he skipped due to the Tomorrow's Tea, who reminded him of how he got his powers and made him realize the true power of the Green Ninja and their Elemental Power, being the connections they made with the Ninja and how his connections to them empowered them, showing him a physical manifestation of a scroll with a tree on each corner and a big tree in the center before changing it to resemble the Prophecy that chose Lloyd as the Green Ninja, and then altering it to include Nya and most of the new ninja. Tween Lloyd then led Lloyd to the ground, leading him to an archway that was summoned, and through it, an enemy Lloyd had bested many times, but not truly defeated. Tween Lloyd then left Lloyd to meditate and prepare.

When he was ready, he went through the archway, entering a physical manifestation of the Monastery of Spinjitzu and encountering yet another physical manifestation of himself: Enemy Lloyd, who taunted and fought him over the former's failures. Eventually, Lloyd mentally and spiritually conquered Enemy Lloyd, the latter sending him to the void where the remainder of the Council of Sources watched over him, doubting that he had reached his end, with Energy stating that Lloyd's True Potential was "anything but traditional". Lloyd then began connecting to the rest of the ninja (except Riyu) and Euphrasia, with all their eyes glowing green.

Aftermath[]

Lloyd would go on to unlock his Draconus Form, a first for an Elemental Master of Life. However, despite completing the Ritual, the Weapon of Desolation was siphoning off unbalanced Source Energy, which still caused the Whispering Wood to wither. Determined to save the wood, Lloyd, Euphrasia, Zane , and Arin set out to confront Beatrix in the Battle of Imperium, aiming to reclaim and deactivate the weapon to restore vitality to the forest and its inhabitants.[3] After managing to wrestle away the Weapon of Desolation from Beatrix, Euphrasia passed it to Arin, and thanks to Cole giving him the word "Tangauv-Hab", all the Elemental Monsters were sucked back into the Weapon of Desolation, allowing the Arc Dragon of Life to regain its strength and color before using its reservoir of Life Energy to restore the Whispering Woods and the Acona.

  • Whilst each trial is unique to each Green Ninja, it appears certain rules must be obeyed.
    • Each trial, no matter its method, must teach the current Elemental Master of Life the truth of their powers and help them unlock their own True Potential.
    • It's also possible that manifestations of who they were and who they might become would be present.
  • There have been Green Ninja that died during the Ritual of Unrooting.[1]
