A flashback to the reveals fused to her , ending up in the and forced to battle the there for months.

A flashback to the Liberation of Imperium reveals Beatrix fused to her Empress Mech, ending up in the Land of Monsters and forced to battle the monsters there for months.

As the episode opens, Beatrix reveals all that's happened to her following the events of the Liberation of Imperium. After Imperium citizens uncovered who she really was and rejected her as their ruler, through the ninja and Percival's efforts, Sora unlocking her True Potential and dismantling her MergeQuake weapon, and Arin putting an end to her rule by kicking her and her Empress Mech into one of her own MergeQuakes in retribution for Riyu, although most of Beatrix's victims returned unscathed, the Good Empress herself didn't. As she plummeted through the Ethereal Divide, Beatrix underwent a drastic transformation; her mech became drastically altered and fused to her body, with even a cybernetic implant being planted onto the left side of her face, and she ended up transported to the Land of Monsters. Presumed dead, Beatrix found herself stranded on the savage lands for months on end, battling the hideous monsters with a single goal in mind: revenge against the ninja and all the Imperians who sided with them over her, descending even further into madness. During that time, her mech, damaged by numerous fights, was partially repaired by grafting various monster parts onto her new body. She eventually managed to escape the Land of Monsters, albeit, with major injuries, briefly passing out in exhaustion. She was later found and awakened by Dr. LaRow, who treated Beatrix using experimental medical treatments. In the Loyalist hideout, LaRow pulls up her hologram of the Weapon of Desolation, addressing the Loyalists and Beatrix that it was the cause of the Elemental Monsters and how gaining control of the weapon means commanding these creatures, allowing one to forge an unstoppable army. She informs the gathered Loyalists and Beatrix that both halves of the weapon have been obtained and are being brought to where they are.

Unbeknownst to Dr. LaRow and Beatrix, Cole overhears some information about the Weapon of Desolation.

Afterwards, Cole wakes up in an old prison cell, remembering how he got there before he tries to figure out how to escape, whilst conversing with a marking of a smiley face on a wall. Unfortunately, his Elemental Power of Earth proves to be ineffective since they're still unstable and the walls of the prison are revealed to be powered by Imperium tech. However, unbeknownst to them, Cole was able to overhear Dr. LaRow and Beatrix talking about an incantation on a tablet the former was holding to bring two halves of the Weapon of Desolation together, having found it in an unknown realm she previously traveled to obtain. Beatrix is skeptical, though, going as far as to call the First Spinjitzu Master, of all people, an "outlander fraud". Soon, the Loyalist group from the Land of Madness return, with the fragment from the Tree of Madness, before the Lead Loyalist explains how they had a minor encounter with some of the ninja, those being Nya, Kai, and Jay, but they were able to trap them in the cave, stating it may take them a while to escape, if not at all. Dismissing them, LaRow then hands over the piece to Beatrix and proclaims that the group in Umbrasilvis should be on their way back with their fragment piece, wanting to prove to her superior that she should not doubt her progress. Cole finishes overhearing LaRow and Beatrix talk about the Weapon of Desolation, only for the chair to break under his weight, knowing circumstances won't be pleasant once Beatrix gets what she's after.

Upon witnessing an Earth Monster and a Mutation Monster emerge, Zane, Arin, and Euphrasia prepare to defend the Whispering Wood and the Arc Dragon of Life.

In the decaying Whispering Wood, Zane asks the Arc Dragon of Life how long a typical Ritual of Unrooting would usually take, to which the latter explains that no two trials are ever the same, and warns Zane that they would not hold out such hope for Lloyd. Arin, donning on a new suit: the Draconus suit, a combination of his Merge and Dark Merge suits, firmly rejects this grim outlook, vowing to never lose hope on his mentor because Lloyd faces danger all the time. However, the Arc Dragon of Life notes that it is nearly impossible to stay idealistic when one knows so much about the world. Suddenly, an Earth Monster and a Mutation Monster spawn and appear right behind them. Reacting quickly to the threats above, Arin, Zane, and Euphrasia immediately prepare themselves for battle.

Meanwhile, Lloyd, taking his tween self's advice on reflection into consideration, meditates on the concept of his "greatest enemy", the final obstacle he must face in order to unlock his True Potential as both the Elemental Master of Life and the Green Ninja. Pondering if they could either be Ras, Garmadon, the Overlord, an angry Source Dragon, or even Arin, if the latter was still mad at him following "Truth and Lies" to "The Shatter Dragon", Lloyd eventually decides to cease worrying and gets up, passing through the archway, which then warps him into a manifestation of the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Initially confused, Lloyd passes it off as a vision before turning around, only to encounter another manifestation of himself, donning on his Ghost Hunter suit; albeit, in dark green, while lacking the armor on his shoulders. This dark manifestation chillingly greets Lloyd, while the latter comes to the shocking realization that his "greatest enemy", is none other than himself.

Cole then tries to use his Elemental Power of Earth to escape, only to be negated by the walls due to Imperium tech embedded within them. Thankfully, the floor didn't, and so he tries using his Earth Punch instead, only for it to work after initially fritzing out on him, triggering the hideout's alarm. As two Loyalists rush toward the prison cells to investigate, Cole falls into the passage below.

Within this illusion, Lloyd confronts Enemy Lloyd, who, unlike Lloyd's other metaphysical counterparts, relentlessly attacks Lloyd both in body and confidence. Enemy Lloyd accuses Lloyd of blaming others for his failures, questions his worth as a leader, and reminds him of some of his past mistakes; such as Arin defecting to Ras' side following the Tournament of the Sources, Jay shattering his goodness after his extended disappearance from the team, and Lloyd's overall inability to protect his teammates and his loved ones. Refusing to accept these accusations, Lloyd insists that the ninja always support one another and attempts to fight Enemy Lloyd using Spinjitzu, and even invokes the Rising Dragon technique. However, Enemy Lloyd proves himself to be a worthy and dangerous opponent, as he mirrors his original self's every move, countering each technique, and even invokes the Art of the Silent Fist and his own Rising Dragon while continuing to manipulate Lloyd with harsher truths and self-doubt. As their battle continues, Lloyd deflects a Life energy blast into a nearby pillar, creating a cracked, mirror-like surface that reflects his dark doppelgänger on the opposite side, immediately realizing that he's surrounded by similar reflective walls. Enemy Lloyd continues to overwhelm Lloyd, going so far as to even include him angering the Source Dragons after the events of "Chaos Reigns", claiming that his failures have now endangered the entirety of the Merged Lands. Although Lloyd solemnly admitted responsibility for his mistakes, he insists that provoking the Source Dragons was necessary to save the world from the Forbidden Five and Thunderfang. This dark manifestation dismisses these justifications, declaring that Lloyd will never achieve his True Potential as the Green Ninja because he is destined to fail and those who depend on him as well. Refusing to give in to despair, Lloyd realizes that it's not too late to prove himself as "The Chosen One", before countering Enemy Lloyd with an uppercut empowered by Life energy, before using Spinjitzu to retrieve his discarded golden sword and continue the battle.

After the alarm is triggered, several Loyalists investigate Cole's prison cell and discover the hole he created before Cole himself traps them in the cell and makes his way to the "yellow" fragment of the Weapon of Desolation. But while approaching it though, he accidentally activates another security alarm, alerting more Loyalists. Despite Elemental Powers acting about, Cole proves to still be as efficient in combat as he singlehandedly defeats the guards, using wise precision and Spinjitzu, throwing one of them into the fragment's forcefield chamber, causing it to fall unguarded. Upon grabbing it, the fragment, upon physical contact, amplifies Cole's Elemental Earth Powers, but unlike Kai or Frak, Cole remains in control of his power and is surrounded by orbiting rocks, which transforms him into an enhanced version of his Elemental Golem form. Surprised by this sudden burst of power, Cole realizes that the fragment has dramatically increased his abilities and proceeds to display his new power against any nearby Loyalists.

As their fight continues, Lloyd declares that Enemy Lloyd can no longer hurt him with insults he has not already told himself. In response, the apparition brings up an embarrassing childhood memory regarding an old "friend" from Lloyd's past before continuing its relentless psychological assault. As shattered mirror fragments surround the battlefield, Lloyd attempts to strike Enemy Lloyd with Spinjitzu, but his opponent repeatedly evades him while accusing him of never living up to his uncle Wu's legacy or understanding what it truly means to be the Green Ninja. Although Lloyd tries his best to defend himself, the manifestation overpowers him, insisting that his failures as a leader will ultimately bring about the downfall of the entire Merged Lands, endangering his family in the process. Disarming Lloyd and dragging him towards the edge of a mountainside, Enemy Lloyd declares that his original self has reached the "limit" of his potential, and prepares to strike a cornered and defenseless Lloyd down.

Arin, Euphrasia, and Zane continue battling the Elemental Monsters. As the fighting intensifies, the Arc Dragon of Life senses that Lloyd's trial is going badly and warns that he is failing. Although Arin refuses to believe Lloyd could fail, he and the others are quickly overwhelmed by the monsters. Euphrasia uses her wind powers to rescue Zane from an ambush, allowing him to land safely, but the group is forced to retreat as the Elemental Monsters close in on the Arc Dragon of Life. Believing the situation is becoming hopeless, Zane fears there may be no chance of victory.

Cole continues fighting the Loyalists with the fragment-enhanced power of his golem form. His escape is interrupted when Empress Beatrix confronts him and engages him in battle. Although Cole briefly gains the upper hand by using the room's hover chariots as improvised weapons, Beatrix eventually overpowers him, knocks him unconscious, and reclaims the fragment, causing his enhanced form to dissipate. Cole is captured once again and brought before Beatrix, the Grand Inquisitor, and Dr. LaRow. After taking possession of the red fragment and the Tablet of Desolation, Dr. LaRow uses an incantation to combined the two fragments into the Weapon of Desolation. Beatrix claims the completed weapon, which surges with energy in her hands, and declares that it will allow her to restore Imperium's glory and destroy anyone who opposes her.

The dark manifestation prepares to deliver the final blow, insisting that Lloyd has been consumed by a lifetime of failures and cannot escape his fears. Instead of giving in, Lloyd realizes that the apparition is born from his own self-doubt. Accepting his mistakes as opportunities for growth rather than sources of shame, he refuses to let them define him or give the manifestation any more power. Although the apparition knocks Lloyd into the Source Dragons' void, the Source Dragon of Energy explains that the Green Ninja's true potential lies not in completing the traditional trials, but in his unique ability to strengthen and connect others. Lloyd awakens in the Whispering Wood, where he senses the life force flowing through every tree and realizes that, as the Master of Life, he connected his power to felt across the Merged Lands. Cole, still imprisoned by the Loyalists, briefly senses Lloyd's presence, while Sora, Wyldfyre, Frak, Jay, Kai, Nya, Arin, Zane, and Euphrasia all experience the same mysterious connection as their eyes momentarily glow green. Although they are unsure what has happened, Arin believes Lloyd is reaching out to them. Despite fearing that Lloyd may have failed his trial, the ninja continue fighting the Elemental Monsters in the Whispering Wood. Meanwhile, Lloyd awakens with his eyes glowing brightly, signaling that he has embraced the true nature of his elemental power.
