The Battle at the Abyss of Eternal Night was a conflict that occurred in the Never Kingdoms, where the Weapon of Desolation possessed Zilvar, making him summon the Elemental Monsters to stop the ninja from destroying the weapon.

Deemed too dangerous to remain intact, the original six ninja took the Weapon of Desolation on a mission to destroy it within the Abyss of Eternal Night, leaving the new ninja behind to defend Ninjago City. Storing the artifact inside a containment unit on the Land Bounty, they traveled through the Land of Madness. There, they liberated a group of enslaved gladiators forced to fight by the Pit-Master.^[1] Among them were Zilvar and his companion Grimtak, who decided to join the ninja on their journey to the Never Kingdoms. Upon arriving, they met Akita and Beniro. Needing a guide who could navigate to the abyss by scent, Beniro offered to help the ninja on their journey while Zilvar was offered to remain to settle a new life.^[2] However, as the ninja left, Ras confronted Zilvar and demanded the weapon remain intact to protect his master and continue with his plan to undo the Merge, which would allow him to resurrect the fallen Tiger Tribe. Horrified, Zilvar refused to cooperate. When Ras threatened to eliminate them all, Zilvar whistled for Grimtak, who headbutted Ras to create a distraction. Zilvar quickly mounted his companion and rode off to warn the ninja,^[3] catching up to them just as the weapon's energy corrupted both the Boreal River and Beniro, triggering an attack by Ice Monsters. Zilvar retrieved the weapon, immediately restoring the river and freeing Beniro.^[2] But before he could warn the ninja about Ras, the Weapon of Desolation restrained Zilvar, manipulating the tiger's mind by reminding him of Ras' promise. Blinded by the potential hope of bringing back his people, Zilvar hid the truth and claimed he followed the team out of a gut feeling.^[3] Because the artifact's containment unit was shattered and Beniro was unable to continue, the ninja tasked Zilvar with carrying the Weapon of Desolation, which was gradually corrupting him.^[2]
