When Jay's memories are triggered by a trinket from his past, he leads the Ninja on a detour from their mission to destroy the Weapon of Desolation. They infiltrate a gladiator pit and, in true Ninja fashion, try to inspire its captive fighters to rebel. There's one problem - a mysterious warrior is determined to fight the Ninja for his own freedom.

In the Land of Madness, a group of bandits attack the Land Bounty, with one attempting to try and steal the Weapon of Desolation, but they are soundly defeated by the original ninja. When Jay saw the bracelet his parents, Ed and Edna, had given him immediately glowing, he suddenly remembered something...

After the Merge, he woke up in the Land of Madness and, while disoriented, came across a Cragling before falling unconscious and grabbed by said Cragling, who takes him to an arena, where the Pit-Master had been gathering many strays caused by the Merge. Upon being clamped with a bracelet and thrown into a cage with other prisoners, whom are skeptical about Jay, including Zilvar, who refer to Jay as "Pyjamas", due to his Core gi. When he was brought forward for his match, Jay easily defeated his opponent with his Lightning powers, scaring the Pit-Master, whom had seen the Elemental Power of Lightning before, and has him incapacitated and bribes an inquiring Administration Agent, Blake Donovan, to rid of the former, which he does by putting him under the Department of Vacation Simulation's mind probe in the Administration to erase his memories and wake up believing he was an Administration Agent.

Learning the bracelet once belonged to his biological mother, Libber, Jay wishes to go back to the gladiator arena and free the prisoners, with Kai agreeing, but Cole and Zane want the Weapon of Desolation to be destroyed as soon as possible, creating an argument amongst each other, but Lloyd interferes, agreeing with the weapon's destruction should come first, then they'll rescue the prisoners. Disobeying Lloyd, Jay intended to go alone, but is stopped by Nya, until he convinced her that, with his goodness shattered, he would not be able to fulfil a promise he made to the prisoners. Nya acknowledges his pleas and agrees to help before everyone else arrives, also admitting to help Jay out.

Disguising herself as a bounty hunter, Nya brings Jay, who's masked his identity with his "Rogue" persona, to the arena and persuades the Pit-Master into taking him in, which the latter complies and pays her. Upon being clamped with a bracelet and thrown into the cage, Jay briefly removes his disguise and reveals himself to the other prisoners, who are unsatisfied to see him back before he admits that he lost his memories, participated in the Tournament of the Sources, and had been in the stomach of a Quealiche. As the prisoners angrily disbelieve him, Jay informs them of how his birth mother had once escaped and pleas for them to wait until he wins his match.

Upon wearing his disguise again, Jay, as Rogue, is pitted against Zilvar on mounted Dragon Beasts, where Jay gets Zilvar to throw the match, promising he will get the latter and everyone out. After a begrudging struggle, Zilvar complies and lets Jay win. Unfortunately, during the fight, his goggles were shattered and as the barrier was disabled, the Pit-Master recognizes Jay, but was too late as he removes his bracelet and takes out the security system, freeing the other prisoners with the ninja, who were disguised in the crowd, moving in to assist, defeating the Craglings and the Pit-Master, and throwing them into cages. As the freed prisoners began to bid farewell to each other, Jay notices that Zilvar has nowhere to go before hearing how he made friends in the Never Kingdoms, and Lloyd invites him to come along with the ninja.

Meanwhile, Blake and some Administration Agents come across the Pit-Master in the aftermath of the siege before taking him away to suppress his memories in the Department of Vacation Simulation so that the Administrator doesn't know about the latter bribing him...

  • This episode's title is so far the shortest one in Ninjago: Dragons Rising coming in at nine characters long.
  • The bandits in this episode share a striking resemblance to Ellie. Her connection to the group is currently unknown.
  • This episode marks the first time "Rogue", Jay's bounty hunter name, is mentioned in the show.
  • Jay and Kai argue to go the gladiator pit to free the fighters, whilst Zane, Cole and Lloyd opt to destroy the Weapon of Desolation first, then free the fighters. Though unknown if it was coincidental, this mirrors the Council of Sources' argument in "Casket of Bones."
    • Jay and Kai advocate for an immediate rescue, reflecting how Energy and Motion wanted to help mortals. Conversely, Cole and Zane suggest destroying the Weapon of Desolation first, reflecting how Strength and Focus refused to help mortals.
