Plot

The Winds of Chaos grew intense as the ninja remained trapped inside it. Riyu attempted to fly through the winds to rescue the ninja, but a boulder hurtled toward him. Just in time, Wyldfyre launched a fireball, shattering the boulder and saving Lloyd, Frak, and Arin. As Zane saved Kai and Nya, he sought to escape the tornado. At that moment, Wyldfyre and the other ninja arrived, using the Mech Storm Rider to escape, followed by Riyu. However, as they emerged, a rock dislodged by the storm hit Riyu, sending him toward the jagged rocks below. Sora transformed Zane's arm into a blaster, allowing him to destroy the rocks just in time. While Arin and Sora tended to Riyu, Kai and Wyldfyre bantered about the mech, but Lloyd redirected their attention to the pressing issue of the Forbidden Five's whereabouts. Arin felt guilty for inadvertently allowing the Forbidden Five to escape with the Prismatic Blades while he was focused on saving Ras. Suddenly, Thunderfang emerged from the depths of the First Land, much to the ninja's horror upon meeting the Chaos Dragon in person.

In various places of the Merged Lands, the Winds of Chaos draw everyone's attention, including Mr. Frohicky at the Monastery, Cole and Geo in the Land of Lost Things, and the Administration Agents. Meanwhile, in the First Land, Thunderfang angrily addresses the Source Dragons, vowing they will regret their rejection of him. Nya wonders about the Forbidden Five, leading Kai to jokingly suggest that Thunderfang might have eaten them, given that's how he absorbs souls. Lloyd proposed a multi-angle attack on Thunderfang, and Wyldfyre quickly agreed, charging ahead. As Lloyd, Kai, and Nya performed Dragon Spinjitzu, Arin joined them, while Sora joined Zane and P.I.X.A.L.. Thunderfang struck back, knocking them down and mocking their efforts by recalling how the Arc Dragon of Focus had previously defeated him, convinced the ninja stood no chance. Just as he aimed to crush Arin, Nya, and Kai, they narrowly dodged his attack, with Zane being rescued by Riyu. Frak struggled to use his Quake powers in combat, while Wyldfyre confronted the Dragonians, believing they tarnished the reputation of dragons. As Thunderfang prepared to stomp on Kai and Nya, Sora seized the moment to strike back. Frak was overwhelmed by the Dragonians and on the brink of being crushed by Thunderfang. Arin arrived, using Spinjitzu to rescue Frak. As they steeled themselves to face the Dragonians, Arin's attention was drawn to Ras, who was trapped under a pile of rocks. He rushed to assist, but his efforts were thwarted by the sudden appearance of Rogue, who immediately engaged him in a struggle. Thunderfang's tail struck, sending Arin staggering backward. When the Dragonian Warriors closed in, Arin stumbled upon the Returning Blade, which he wielded to fight back. Meanwhile, Sora was busy firing at Thunderfang, but the latter deflected her shots and attempted to crush her, Zane, and P.I.X.A.L. with his jaws, causing Riyu to tumble to the ground. Just then, Wyldfyre intervened, delivering a punch to Thunderfang that freed Zane and the others. As they began to plummet, Sora quickly separated the Ultra Combiner Mech back into normal. As Thunderfang readied to strike again, Lloyd, Kai, and Nya unleashed their Rising Dragon technique, stunning him. Thunderfang sensed that one of the ninja was a Conduit and realized it was Lloyd. He relished the idea of stealing Lloyd's soul, believing that draining a Conduit's powers for his own would elevate him to new heights. As he launched his attack, he mocked Lloyd, demanding to know which Source Dragon's energy he possessed. Thunderfang prepared to take Lloyd’s soul, but P.I.X.A.L., Sora, and Zane intervened, firing at Thunderfang to shield Lloyd, who Riyu saved.

In the City of Temples, Roby watches the Winds of Chaos while a Security Bot urges him to seek shelter. He realizes that the disaster is not a natural storm, but the result of the Chaos Dragon's awakening. Meanwhile, Fritz attempts to fly against the powerful winds in his animal form but is quickly overwhelmed by the storm. Cole catches him before he is blown away and safely returns him to his normal form. Using his Earth powers, Cole lowers the rock platform carrying the Finders so they can reunite with Geo and Spitz. Together, the group runs toward shelter as the storm continues to intensify.

Nya saves Rogue from a Dragonian using her Water Power, then disarms a enemy sword and executes Dragon Spinjitzu. Urged by Nya to get on his feet, Rogue jumps into action—tripping one Dragonian to save Nya, kicking another, and taking its sword to fight side by side with her. Operating her mech, Wyldfyre taunts Thunderfang, asking if he was supposed to be unstoppable. Angered, Thunderfang shoots a beam that destroys the mech's right thruster, causing her to crash land off her motorcycle. Kai witnesses the crash and rushes to check on her as she exits the wreckage. Despite grunting in pain, Wyldfyre insists she doesn't get hurt and tells Kai he would look "really cool" in her mech before shoving him inside. Kai powers up the mech, agrees with her assessment, puts on his mask, mounts the motorcycle attached to the suit, and flies off into battle. Nearby, Arin defeats two Dragonians before being knocked down by a third. As two Dragonians close in on him, the ground quakes and a falling rock crushes both attackers. Frak is revealed to have used his powers to cause the rockfall, and he steps in to help Arin up. Frak reassures Arin that he won't let him get hurt on their first joint Ninja adventure, and they bump fists before entering combat. Meanwhile, Zane and P.I.X.A.L. execute a coordinated attack on Thunderfang using ice and vehicle strikes, but Thunderfang easily knocks Zane down, hurls P.I.X.A.L.'s car away, and shoots down Sora's jet with a lightning bolt. Kai fires at Thunderfang using Wyldfyre's mech, annoying the beast enough that Thunderfang bites into the mech's thruster. Kai hurls a fiery punch directly into Thunderfang's eyes, causing the dragon to roar in pain and throw him aside. Nearby, Rogue's suit begins glowing with electricity as he punches the ground, firing Lightning to take out three Dragonians while making a corny pun. Nya watches in disbelief, recognizing his distinct style. As Lloyd fires Energy from atop Riyu, Dragonians restrain Riyu while Thunderfang closes in from behind. Thunderfang corners Lloyd and begins absorbing his soul, horrifying Sora, Kai, Zane, Nya, Jay, Frak, and Arin. Arin uses Spinjitzu to try to halt Thunderfang, but the dragon evil-laughs and pushes him away. Thunderfang finishes absorbing Lloyd's soul—gaining glowing green eyes and mouth while unleashing a burst of Chaos causing Lloyd's lifeless body to fall. Arin quickly uses Spinjitzu to leap forward and catch Lloyd's falling body, pleading with him in vain. Thunderfang fires a bolt at Kai inside the mech and looks up into the storm, declaring to the Source Dragons that he has reaped the soul of one of their mortal Conduits and will not stop until he devours the rest of them.

Arin used the Returning Blade and discovered to see the many hidden souls, including the Forbidden Five's and Lloyd's soul, swirling around Thunderfang's body. Remembering Morro's advice to "help souls move on" with the bottle of healing elixir from the Spectral Lands, Arin realized that the elixir could free the souls, defeat Thunderfang, and save Lloyd. While Sora watched him, Frak struggled to hold off the Dragonians. Ras informed Arin that hurling a moving target through the Winds of Chaos is impossible for the latter, as he didn't possess enough anger for that kind of strength. Remembering Sora's words about his true strength, Arin refused to give in to anger. Instead, he focused on the people who cared about him by using memories of his parents, Sora, young Frak, Riyu, and the ninja, including Mr. Frohicky, to get something better. Using Object Spinjitzu, Arin hurled the healing elixir through the Winds of Chaos and struck Thunderfang, causing him to begin calcifying. They all see all of the souls Thunderfang absorbed moving on, unaware that Forbidden Five's souls remained with Thunderfang as he died. Lloyd's soul returned to his body, and he later came back to life, while Tyr and the Dragonians were freed from their corruption. The ninja checked on Lloyd when the chaos storm dissipated. He had some really weird days, or it might be the weirdest one yet, causing the ninja to laugh before embracing one another. Arin then joined them while Ras watched angrily from a distance. Elsewhere, the storm also ended in the Merged Lands, where Roby thanked Wyldfyre and expressed his belief that the other ninja had also helped stop the crisis.

Tyr and two other Dragonians bow to the Ninja, apologizing for their forced actions. Lloyd reassures Tyr that they know they were controlled and credits Arin with freeing them. Despite Arin's modest attempt to deflect credit, Tyr bows to him as a great hero. Lord Ras interrupts, telling Arin it is time to depart. Over the objections of Kai, Frak, and the angry glares of the Ninja, Arin apologizes and begins walking toward Ras to secure help for his parents. Sora apologizes to Lloyd and runs after Arin. As Nya questions what is happening, Echoing their bond "Together forever, right?", Sora convinces a hesitant Ras to let her join by highlighting the value of having the Elemental Master of Technology on their side. Arin reminds Sora that she doesn't have to leave with them, but Sora firmly insists that someone needs to watch out for him. Together, Arin and Sora depart with Ras. Kai questions Lloyd, asking if he is seriously going to let Ras leave with Arin and Sora. Lloyd responds that unlike Ras, they allow people to make their own decisions. When Frak asks if he isn't worried, Lloyd clarifies that he certainly is. The team and a whimpering Riyu watch in sorrow as Arin, Sora, and Ras walked away. Turning around, Nya spots someone trapped under debris from the storm. She lifts the rocks off Rogue, but he collapses due to a severe leg injury. When he asks why she's helping him, Nya brushes off his "mysterious stranger" act, calling him out on using Elemental Lightning. After trying to feign ignorance, He takes off his hat, glasses, and mask, revealing his ponytail. The Ninja gasp and recognize him as Jay. Defensive as ever, Jay snaps at them not to pretend they know him and refuses to go to their "stupid" Monastery. However, as he tries to walk away, his injured leg gives out. Whimpering and sobbing in pain, he immediately reverses his stance, demanding they take him to the Monastery for medical help.

The ninja returned to the Monastery through the portal gate, bringing Jay with them. At the dragon stables, Mr. Frohicky greeted the group and congratulated them on defeating Thunderfang. However, Lloyd and Frak remained troubled by Arin and Sora's departure, and Lloyd admitted that the victory did not feel like a true one. While Nya helped the injured Jay down the stairs and the others entered the monastery, Mr. Frohicky remarked that some guests would disagree with Lloyd's assessment. Back at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, the ninja's friends held a celebration to commemorate Thunderfang's defeat. Lobbo attempted to break his pie-eating record, and the others welcomed the returning ninja. Roby reunited with Wyldfyre, while Cole excitedly greeted Jay. However, Jay still lacked his memories and rejected Cole's attempt to embrace him, insisting that he did not remember any of the ninja. When Cole asked information about Arin when he's not here, Lloyd explained that Arin and Sora had left with Ras. He further thinks that Arin help Ras and believed his parents could somehow brought back from the dead. Jay was surprised by this, stating that Arin's parents were actually alive. He explained that he had previously worked for the Administration as the head of the Department of Reassignment and knew where Arin's parents had been reassigned. According to Jay, their location was unusual, leaving the ninja shocked by the revelation.

In the Spectral Lands, Morro witnesses a new soul arriving. Morro begins his standard welcome, gently telling the departed soul how they have transitioned out of the living world. He vows to protect the newcomer as it moves into its next stage of existence. However, the departed soul turns out to be Thunderfang. Startled by the sheer scale of the Shatter Dragon, Morro remarks on how big the new arrival actually is. Before they can speak further, four Soul Suckers arrive, ready to attack the two. Morro attempts to defend Thunderfang, but the latter claims he can take care of himself as he absorbs the four Soul Suckers by devouring them entirely. Stunned by the sight, Morro states that such a feat is impossible. Thunderfang simply replies that anything is possible in the afterlife just before he absorbs Morro, laughing maniacally as he draws power from the latter's soul.

  • When asked why Thunderfang didn't take the souls of the other ninja, Chris "Doc" Wyatt answered "You'll see".[4]
  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the rock Cole was examining was an Oni artifact.[5]
  • It's unknown when Cole received his Storm suit as he departed to the Land of Lost Things in "The Missing" and wasn't shown to return to the Monastery of Spinjitzu until this episode.
  • When Jay activates his Elemental Power, lightning bolts appear on his Rogue attire, finally matching the minifigure's details.
  • Kai's scream when he loses grip of Zane is the same scream heard when he falls into the Nether-Space portal in "Rising Ninja."
  • Ironically, Lloyd's final scream when Thunderfang absorbs his soul is the same one as in "The Battle of the Second Monastery" when the Source Dragon of Energy blasts fire at him.

  • When Lloyd, Nya and Kai perform and combine their Rising Dragon techniques against Thunderfang, the order in which they activate it is the reverse order of who mastered it. Lloyd was the last among the three to master it, and the first to activate it to use it against Thunderfang. For Kai, he was the first among the three to master it, and the last to activate it to use it against Thunderfang.
  • As of this episode, Jay has once again injured his leg. This is the fifth time a Ninja has injured their leg, the first was Lloyd twice in "Return of the Overlord" and "The Sword Shatters", then Jay in "Spy for a Spy" and then Wyldfyre in "Shattered Dreams".
    • As was the case the first time with Jay and both times with Lloyd, Jay once again received the injury on his right leg.
    • Also, the way Jay reacts to his injured leg and screaming in pain is exactly the same reaction he had the first time in "Spy for a Spy".
  • This episode marks the first time one of the ninja officially dies.
    • Zane, Kai, Cole, and Lloyd died after being encased in gold by Nadakhan until Nadakhan was hit by Tiger Widow venom and Nya died when she was hit by Tiger Widow venom in The Way Back, but Jay's final wish undid the events of Season 6, and therefore undid their deaths.

  • Towards the end of the episode when the Ninja and Jay make it back to the Monastery and Cole sees him, near the fountain in the middle of the courtyard is a second Cole in a T-pose.
  • When Jay is fighting the Dragonians just after being saved by Nya, the grunts he makes don't have the voice filter on them.
  • When Nya realises that Rogue is Jay, she winks after she says, "No way".
  • When Jay removes his disguise, his hair is shorter.
  • When Arin thinks about his friends, there is a quick shot of child Frak in the Crossroad's junkyard, which Arin never experienced as Frak moved away before the Merge. However, the scene could just be a figment of Arin's imagination.
  • In the Dutch and Japanese dub of the episode, Thunderfang called the Arc Dragon of Focus the Source Dragon of Focus.
  • With how Spinjitzu works in the First Land after The Merge, it is unknown why Arin's Spinjitzu tornado didn't have a dragon orbiting around it when Lloyd, Kai, Nya, and Zane have a dragon orbiting around their Spinjitzu tornadoes.
    • It could be that because Arin learned how to do a full Spinjitzu tornado due to Ras' teachings from Frak, by forcing the tornado out, that is why Arin's Spinjitzu tornado did not have a dragon orbiting around it when he was in the First Land.
