Tonight We Hunt Monsters is the third episode of the fourth season of Ninjago: Dragons Rising and the 63rd episode overall.

In this full episode, Jay finds a lead to his lost memories while Frak’s team helps the Explorer’s Club on a monster hunt, and the Loyalists get closer to their secret weapon.[1]

In the Loyalist hideout, the Chief Loyalist requests an update on the other Loyalists. One Loyalist was confident in his progress, having tracked a series of promising exotic readings. The Chief Loyalist, however insisted that she will determine what is deemed promising and demands to be kept informed of any findings. Turning to another Loyalist, she inquires about their report, only to be met with silence, which is echoed by the rest of the group. Frustrated, she emphasizes the critical nature of their mission, reminding them that the return of her power hinges on their efforts. She stresses that the Weapon of Desolation should be generating significant energy each time it created an Elemental Monster, energy that must be traceable. She commands the Loyalists to track these signals, and asserted that they will locate the Weapon to make Elemental Monsters of their own.

In a flashback, an amnesiac Jay woke up in the Land of Madness. Confused, Jay approached a few Administration Agents and asked if they could tell him his identity. The agent did not believe so, but still scanned Jay. After saying his name and Jay learning it, the agent said Jay was management, and the agents immediately started showing him kindness. Agent Blake Donovan showed up and told Jay he was his best friend. Blake brought Jay to the Administration. In the present, Jay explains how he woke up in the specific area in the Land of Madness they were at, hoping that being there would unlock his memories. Nya wonders why Jay is the only ninja to have amnesia after the Merge.

In Umbrasilvis, Frak's father, Reginald Slitherbottom, introduces himself and his colleagues to Sora, Wyldfyre, and Riyu. Johnny Courageous tells the story of Reginald naming an incompetent slug after Frak. After sighing, Frak introduces his friends and mentions how they are all ninja. Reginald asks if there are any "real" ninja with them, angering the group. Frak tells Reginald about Lloyd's high opinions on Frak, but the latter dismisses it. Sora asks if they are heading back to Ninjago, and after insensitively teasing Gweeg, Reginald offers to give them a ride back on the Expanding Frontier after the Explorer's Club members finish their expedition. Reginald says they are there after hearing rumors of deadly monster attacks, and Rowan explains their plan to capture it and put it on display in Ninjago. Frak says they need to get back to the Monastery of Spinjitzu urgently, but Reginald downplays Frak's role in the ninja team before saying they need to capture the monster. He then asks Frak to come along for the monster hunt.

In a flashback, Jay asked Agent Prentis why the latter was still working. After learning of the situation, Jay told him to send the Merge refugees to the Land of Lee. Though doubtful, Prentis followed Jay's words and left. Jay turned on Galamorph X-Post on the computer, and he and Blake started playing. When Blake brought up dating, Jay expressed his desire not to date and was about to say what he was feeling due to his amnesia. However, Blake changed the subject by showing Jay what was supposedly an old picture of them and reveling in the "memories" Jay does not remember. Jay awkwardly agreed that they had good times together before he won the Galamorph game. In the present, Jay, Nya, and Kai walk around and inspect the area around them. Suddenly, the ground under Nya's feet makes an unnatural sound. Kai digs at the spot, and Jay identifies the object they found as an Administration suitcase. They open it and find Jay's old gi along with a request to bury incriminating evidence inside. Jay says the Administration knew he was a ninja, and he needs to go there to threaten someone with intense violence.

Back in Umbrasilvis, the Explorers get ready to monster hunt with their new capture devices. Frak suggests going in small groups instead of splitting up. Reginald apologizes on behalf of Frak and explains that the naming rights go to the person who catches the monster first. When the rest of the explorers run off, Reginald calls Frak's idea awful before commending him. Wyldfyre says there is probably no monster, but Sora insists on helping and protecting the town. The explorers look around while Sora asks Frak why he tolerates his father's abuse. Frak responds, saying he does it out of loyalty to his family, something he implies Sora does not have.

Outside the Administration, Nya asks if Jay has a plan, to which the latter responds, saying he called a guy. A few Transforming Cars show up, and Rapton and the Freebooters jump out of them. Jay and Rapton perform a secret handshake, and Rapton, Kai, and Nya are mutually shocked at Jay's knowledge of one another. Jay tells Rapton they need to get into the Administration, and Rapton says he will enact the plan for free. The Freebooters proceed to cause a ruckus outside the Administration. A group of agents starts attacking and shooting at them, but the Freebooters easily best them. Rapton whistles, and the Freebooters fall to the ground. The Freebooters pretend to have been beaten and flee. The Administration agents confiscate one of the Transforming Cars and bring it into the building. Once inside, Kai, Nya, and Jay crawl out from under the vehicle. Kai and Nya express confusion at Jay's words about the plan.

Meanwhile, Frak, Wyldfyre, Sora, and Riyu walk around Umbrasilvis and encounter a Mutation Monster. The monster is about to attack Gweeg when Frak uses Quake to scare it away. They chase the monster, and it scares Johnny Courageous. Rowan, Seafoam, and Reginald attempt to use the Lariat Launchers to capture it, but they all fail to do so. Riyu distracts the Mutation Monster to divert its attention away from Frak, but the monster jumps onto Riyu's back and uses an energy beam on Riyu. Sora uses Technology and metal from a windmill to create a cage for the Mutation Monster, successfully capturing it. Riyu falls to the ground, and Wyldfyre and Sora run to him. Reginald scolds Frak for showing up, preventing the former from capturing the monster.

Nya, Kai, and Jay sneak around the Administration and enter an office. Agent Blake Donovan complains about the broken lights when the door closes, and Jay shoves the agent into a chair. Blake asks Jay what happened to the latter, and Jay responds, saying he knows Blake is putting on an act. Jay shows him the request form they found with Blake's name on it. The agent stops pretending and comments on how long it took Jay to find out. In a desperate tone, Jay asks who erased his memories and why, holding his Lightning Dagger against Blake's neck to get him to talk. Blake says there could be a way to unblock his memories in the sector where they were erased. Jay orders Blake to take him there, but the latter kicks the chair and quickly goes up a tube. Nya uses the computer to check the sector Blake was referring to, finding the Department of Vacation Simulation and their brain-accessing technology. The door is suddenly opened by Roderick Allen, SsssSsss Underwood, and a Nindroid, but Nya, Kai, and Jay sneak out behind them.

In the Whispering Wood, Euphrasia falls after her Wind powers stop working, and Arin catches her. Arin says he anticipated the fall, and Euphrasia thanks him for the catch. Lloyd comments on how they have been wandering for hours but have not found the Temple of the Green Ninja. He starts thinking he is not meant to find the temple because it is too late to perform the ritual. Arin recommends meditating, and Lloyd agrees, sitting down to do so. Strange pulses of energy zap around behind Lloyd, and they turn into Elemental Monsters. They start attacking the three ninja.

Back in the Loyalist hideout, a Loyalist says they have captured one of the elemental creatures. The Loyalist leader says not to let anyone stand in the Loyalist's way while staring at the projection of the Weapon of Desolation.

  • In the episode, a Spinjitzu Race Car is shown to be in The Administration's possession, which was previously confirmed to be the case by Chris "Doc" Wyatt.[4]
  • Rapton mentions a heist with Jay in Shintaro Mountain where they collected a possibly cursed skull and sold it. This event occurred at some point between the second and third seasons of Ninjago: Dragons Rising.
    • This might be hinting at an eventual return of Vangelis in the future.

  • This is the first season since Season 2 to feature the Master and Dragon Mechs.
  • This is the first episode to feature the Core suit in the present day since "Beyond Madness", where Nya was wearing her Core suit when Lloyd, Arin, Sora and Riyu found her.
    • This time, it is Jay's Core suit that appears.
  • The voice clip that is used when Kai says "Don't make me laugh" is the exact same voice clip that was first used in "The Snake King" after Cole said the latter would become the Green Ninja.
  • This episode states that around roughly two years have passed from "The Power Within," as Sora states that she hadn't spoken to her parents in years.

  • In the opening shot of the episode, Borg Tower seems to have been stretched out vertically, making it look taller than it actually is.
