Source Energy (also referred to as Source Dragon energy) is a type of dragon energy created by the Source Dragons which serves as their life force. Its seven powerful forms represent the concepts of Life, Focus, Flow, Motion, Balance, Energy, and Strength embodied by the Source Dragons, constitute their powers, and serve as the source of all natural Elemental Powers in the universe. It is connected to the Merged Lands, flowing through everything and every living being,^[1] while also sharing a connection with soul energy.^[2] Source Energy manifests in Chima as powerful orbs of energy known as Chi.^[3]^[4]

Following the Battle of the Spectral Lands, the Source Dragons of Life, Focus, and Strength withdrew from the Council of Sources. This ended the flow of their Source Energy to the Merged Lands, causing instability throughout the Merged Lands and disrupting all Elemental Powers until Lloyd stabilized the Weapon of Desolation.

Ras' master created the Weapon of Desolation from their own essence,^[5] tying it to the creation of the realms and enabling it to manipulate imbalanced Source Energy by drawing power from everything around it.^[6]^[7]

The First Spinjitzu Master implored the Source Dragons to bestow upon him their dragon energy. His intention was to harness some of their life force and forge three Dragon Cores, instrumental in thwarting the Coalescence, which threatened to merge the realms. They complied, making him a conduit to them all.^[8]

After the War of Oni and Dragon, Thunderfang was denied the supposed title of Source Dragon. In retaliation, he unleashed the Winds of Chaos on the City of Temples. However, his assault was cut short by the Arc Dragon of Focus, who struck him with a powerful beam of Focus. The attack sent Thunderfang plummeting to the ground, where he was ultimately imprisoned inside Storm Mountain.^[9]

Following the Exile of the Forbidden Five, the Dragon Masters Egalt and Rontu ensured that the Shadow Dojo could not be open without Source Energy.^[10]

When the Sixteen Realms merged, the Claws of Imperium began to hunt any known dragon they could find for their energy, especially those of the Source Dragons, which would allow Imperium to have control over the Merged Realms.^[11]^[12]

Dragons Rising, Season 1[]

During the Battle of the Second Monastery, Lloyd and Zane discovered that the Source Dragon of Energy was held captive beneath Imperium, serving as the primary energy source for the entire kingdom. The imprisoned Source Dragon generously extended an offer to Lloyd, granting him a portion of his Energy, thus establishing him as a conduit for him. Assuming the role, Lloyd successfully activated the portal gate of the Imperium Monastery, allowing the remaining dragons to make their escape into Ninjago.^[13]

In order to put an end to the MergeQuakes once and for all, the ninja embarked on a mission to locate the Dragon Cores. However, Beatrix was determined to obtain the Dragon Cores before the ninja so she can use them for a weapon capable of harnessing the Source Energy within the artifacts in order to eliminate the ninja.^[8] Nevertheless, Beatrix soon discovered that one of the Dragon Cores had been switched with a counterfeit by Rapton. Despite the potential risks of destroying the Kingdom of Imperium, Beatrix instructed Dr. LaRow to create a fourth Dragon Core by utilizing the Energy of the captive Source Dragon of Energy. When she refused, Jordana insisted on doing it.^[14] After some time, Jordana achieved the successful creation of a fourth Core by extracting raw energy from the Source Dragon, making her the first Imperian to extract energy from a Source Dragon.^[15]

The new Dragon Core allowed Beatrix to create her own MergeQuakes using the MergeQuake weapon, ultimately leading to the creation of the MergeQuake Storm. However, Lloyd was able to put an end to the MergeQuakes using the Dragon Cores and later used them to free the captive Source Dragon of Energy. After Beatrix's reign came to an end, Ras approached Jordana, who possessed a canister containing raw dragon energy, extracted from Imperium's Source Dragon. With the potent energy, Ras and Jordana formed an alliance to aid Ras' master in their plan to capture of the Source Dragons.^[15]

Dragons Rising, Season 2[]

After Ras and Jordana arrived at the Shadow Dojo, Ras used some of the extracted Source Energy to open the Shadow Dojo, revealing to Jordana why he needed energy from the captured Source Dragon in the first place.

Dragons Rising, Season 4[]

The Source Dragons of Focus, Life, and Strength withdrew from the Council of Sources in anger after the ninja used the Arc Dragon of Focus without their approval. This severed the connection between their respective sources and the Merged Lands.^[16]^[17] The departure of the Source Dragon of Life also accelerated the deterioration of the Whispering Wood,^[1] while the disruption of Source Energy caused the two pieces of the Weapon of Desolation to create Elemental Monsters across the Merged Lands.^[18] Dr. LaRow instructed the Loyalists to locate the weapon so they can use the creatures as Beatrix's army when she retakes Imperium.^[16]

Sparks - When a Source Dragon transfers its Source Energy to an Elemental Master, the Elemental Master gains the ability to harness and utilize the Source Dragon's powers. This is because the Elemental Master becomes a conduit for the Source Dragons' life force, allowing them to process and control their immense power.
Dimensiokinesis/Realmkinesis - With their Source Energy, the Source Dragons have control over the realms.^[12]^[13]
- Dimensional Rift Creation - Users of Source Energy are capable of tearing rifts in the fabric of reality, exposing the Ethereal Divide.
  - Vacuum Effect - Such rifts are identical to MergeQuakes and have a vacuum effect that sucks nearby objects or people in.
Elemental Power Creation/Linkage - Because of their dragon energy,^[19] the Source Dragons are the foundation of the Elemental Powers. Each Elemental Power is linked to a specific Source Dragon, determining the type of element that is generated from them.
- Elemental Monster Creation - When mixed with any form of matter, imbalanced Source Energy can create semi-sentient monsters made of elements.^[16]
Conceptukinesis - Source Energy is related to concepts such as Balance, Energy, Life, Strength, Motion, Flow, and Focus, which the Source Dragons embody and can control at will.
