The Ultimate Object of Admiration is the second episode of the third season of Ninjago: Dragons Rising and the 42nd episode overall.

Synopsis

Synopsis[]

Arin nurses Ras back to health as they continue his training, while the Ninja follow their trail. The group must separate, leading Lloyd, Frak, Sora and Riyu through a treacherous cave.[1]

Extended: Arin nurses Ras back to health as they continue his training, while the Ninja follow their trail. The group must separate, leading Lloyd, Frak, Sora and Riyu through a treacherous cave. A village of friendly Dragonians on the other side guide the Ninja to the forest where Arin was last spotted, but a dangerous foe awaits them.[3]

Aru is playing with his dog while holding a Lloyd ninja doll when he drops it. At that moment, Arin emerges from the bushes, picks up the doll, and hands it back to Aru. Curious, Aru's parents, Koji and Ume, ask for Arin's name, and he introduces himself, momentarily forgetting Ras' warning not to share his identity. Arin requests some water and food, offering to do something in return for their kindness. The family invites him to dinner, where they bond over the meal. In a generous gesture, Aru gives Arin the ninja doll, believing he will need it more.

Afterward, Arin returns to the injured Ras and shares the food, prompting Ras to question how he acquired it, suspecting he might have stolen it despite Arin's polite demeanor. Ras insists that Arin begin training and channel his anger into mastering Spinjitzu. During their conversation, Arin recalls the Merge and Master Wu's role in it, remembering that his parents have disappeared because of it.

Meanwhile, Frak, Sora, Lloyd, Zane, Riyu, and Zanth approach a cave and decide to split up, with Zane opting to fly around the mountain with Zanth while the others explore inside. Sora expresses her annoyance at Frak's attempts to lead the group, leading to a heated argument about his knowledge. As Sora struggles with her claustrophobia, Frak helps her breathe, but when he uses his Quake powers to move rocks, the cave begins to collapse, sending the team tumbling into a river.

Elsewhere, Nya, Kai, and Wyldfyre were setting up a fire, but Nya is distressed over their inability to find Jay. To lighten the mood, Wyldfyre and Kai playfully throw rocks into the air and blast them with their Elemental Powers. Just then, a love letter from Roby arrives, accompanied by a Spirit Dragon. Wyldfyre draws a picture of herself on the letter and sends it back to Roby. Nya urges Kai and Wyldfyre to concentrate on their mission, emphasizing that they may never find Jay if they keep getting sidetracked.

Lloyd wakes up in the Storm Village when Tyr, the leader, approaches him. Tyr applies medicine to Lloyd's injured arm and introduces himself. He explains how a few Dragonians found them while looking for fish. Pointing to Sora, Frak, and Riyu, Tyr assures Lloyd of their safety and hands him a bowl of soup. Later, Frak, Sora, Riyu, and Lloyd walk around the village and find nut shaped cones with designs on them being sold. Lloyd remarks that they are Oni designs, prompting Sora to ask what an Oni is, shocking the Dragonians nearby. Frak pulls Sora aside, and he and Lloyd explain the Oni's origin. The team comes to the realization that they are in the First Land.

Sora wonders if anyone has come across Arin and asks the Old Lady Dragonians about him. The old ladies shake their heads at her descriptions of Arin repeatedly, but when Frak adds that Arin's hood has horns on it, they realize who they are talking about. They say the Dragonians chased Arin away toward the South Woods. The old ladies add that Arin is probably dead since there have been cyclops sightings in the woods. They mention how they sent a hunting party to investigate, but they never returned.

The four of them head into the South Woods, hopeful that Arin is still alive. A mysterious figure flies behind them. Riyu manages to pick up Arin's scent but smells someone else. Riyu runs toward an open area, and they hear muffled cries nearby. Riyu, Sora, Frak, and Lloyd push a heavy rock and find the Dragonian Hunting Party in a pit underneath. They try to help the hunting party out before they hear loud thudding coming from behind them.

The three ninja turn around to see Powerlid. Lloyd uses Dragon Spinjitzu for the first time, shocking him and Sora. Powerlid throws rocks at the three ninja and monologues about his inability to feel. Frak instructs Sora and Lloyd to stay still, saying Cyclopses are unable to perceive depth. Powerlid pretends to look around confused before he stomps in front of them and says he can see them. Sora angrily tells Frak he almost got them killed. Sora makes fun of Powerlid's strength while avoiding his attacks. She tells him she will stop moving if he can pick up the rock behind him and throw it at her. He tries to pick it up, not knowing the rock is covering the hunting party. He lifts the rock over his head, but he drops it, knocking him out. The team celebrates the victory when the mysterious figure uses a glider to swoop down and grab the Oni Chalice from a pile of treasure.

The ninja help the Dragonians out of the pit, and Sora asks one of them if they have seen Arin. The Dragonian believes Arin is heading south. Sora starts to walk in that direction when Frak stops her. Frak apologizes for what he did and explains how he wanted to show he was more than Ras's student. He wishes he had talked Arin out of going with Ras. Sora says it is not Frak's fault and brings up the falling out she had with Arin. Sora opens up about her lack of friendships. They begin to head south.

Elsewhere, Arin pulls a highly injured Ras on a sled. Arin says they should stop, but Ras objects. They bargain about stopping, and Ras demands they go faster. Ras says he must heal, and they must head to the Spectral Lands.

Errors[]

  • It is unclear how Arin was able to change his outfit from his Source Tournament suit to his Merge suit and repaint it as when he went through the Cloud Kingdom portal gate with Ras in "Elements of Betrayal" there was no obvious place where he would've had his older suit.
  • Frak mentions that Arin is currently wearing horns on his hood, though he has no way of knowing this given that Arin was last seen in his Source Tournament suit.
  • It does not really make sense for Arin and Ras to be at the same place they were at the end of “Elements of Betrayal” as between these two episodes they traveled through the First Land.
