Rising Dragon

Overview

“Rising Dragon comes from Spinjitzu and should only be used to defend oneself.”

The Rising Dragon Technique is a Spinjitzu technique developed by Egalt and Rontu that serves as a counter to Shatterspin. While Shatterspin is focused on the concept of strength, Rising Dragon focuses on the concept of motion. It relies on the mastery of Spinjitzu. To successfully execute Rising Dragon, one must attain a minimum rank of level three in the Fang ranking system. When using this technique, those who are not dragons would be surrounded by an avatar resembling one made of energy, granting them flight. Elemental Masters can also fire their respective elemental power from the mouth of their dragon avatars.

History

History[]

Background[]

The Rising Dragon Technique was developed by the Dragon Masters as a martial art skill derived from Spinjitzu. The technique became part of the training for their students, and only a handful of humans trained by the Dragon Masters have mastered it.[1] Its focus on movement allowed it to effectively counter Shatterspin, which depended on brute force. To defeat the Forbidden Five, the Dragon Masters used Rising Dragon to stop them.[2]

Dragons Rising, Season 2[]

The Spell at the Waterfall[]

Egalt demonstrated Rising Dragon twice while explaining the significance of motion to the ninja, emphasizing the importance of aligning the movement of one's inner self with the flow of the universe.

Fugitives From Madness[]

With the help of his sister, Kai manages to achieve Rising Dragon by remembering their childhood game "Counter Shot". Eventually, he is able to perform the technique.

Rising Ninja[]

Kai uses Rising Dragon Technique to save Nya from Cinder and again against the Master of Smoke. After Kai was sent to Nether-Space, it motivates Nya to activate her Rising Dragon technique. The same thing happens with Lloyd when he finds harmony with his visions.

Enter the City of Temples[]

Zane trains under Egalt and Rontu, but is too focused on fighting back. Lloyd's last minute guidance helped Zane master the Rising Dragon technique.

Inside the Maze[]

When Jay uses Shatterspin in his battle with Nya, she is forced to use Rising Dragon against him.

Truth and Lies[]

In her match against Nokt, Nya uses her Rising Dragon technique.

Clues and Suspects[]

In his match against Nokt, Lloyd uses his Rising Dragon but fails due to his injuries, which resulted in him being knocked back more than Nokt.

Elements of Betrayal[]

Nya and Zane use their Rising Dragon Technique against Rox, who was in possession of Jordana, and Nokt. Kai uses his Rising Dragon Technique against Nokt and managed to bring him down.

Dragons Rising, Season 3[]

I Alone Can Save Them[]

Lloyd uses Rising Dragon Technique against Zarkt's Shatterspin, but only knocked him back a little.

Fallen Wishes[]

Nya used Rising Dragon to get take down Rox in an attempt to get the yellow Prismatic Blade from her, but Rox got away.

Crashing Together[]

Nya uses Rising Dragon Technique against Drix, who dodges the technique with his Swarm powers.

Chaos Unchained[]

Lloyd used Rising Dragon twice: once against Drix to knock him back, and the second time against Rox in a failed attempt to take her down.

The Shatter Dragon[]

Lloyd, Kai, and Nya combined their Rising Dragon in a failed attempt to take down Thunderfang.

Chaos Reigns[]

During her fight with Zarkt in the Cave of Bells, Nya used Rising Dragon to counter his Shatterspin and prevent him from destroying the focus crystals that keep the Arc Dragon of Focus active. She eventually exhausted herself using it however.

Season 4[]

Dying to Live[]

Abilities

Abilities[]

  • Avatar/Dragon Manifestation - The non-dragon users are able to manifest a dragon-like avatar from their own energy and when dragons use the technique, they themselves act as their own avatars, their body being surrounded by energy. The dragon avatar itself doesn't have to be an elemental.
    • Elementokinetic Beam Emission - The user of an elemental power is able to project a beam of their element from their avatar to attack.
    • Ergokinetic Wave Emission - The user is able to project a powerful wave of energy when they manifest their dragon avatar or dissipate it.
    • Flight - With their dragon avatar, the user is able to fly.
      • Wind Generation - The user is able to emit a powerful gust when flying, as Egalt held onto his hat when Kai achieved it.
  • Power Opposition - When confronted with Shatterspin, the user is able to counter their opponents’ power and use it against them.[3]
Weaknesses

Weaknesses[]

  • Underbelly - As seen in "Rising Ninja," if the user is attacked from underneath their avatar, they will be knocked out and their Rising Dragon would cancel out.
  • Fatigue - Due to Rising Dragon’s duration being set on the user’s energy, it can have a massive toll on the user, requiring much energy to sustain.[4]Overuse of Rising Dragon can cause exhaustion or if the user is injured than it can make their Rising Dragon fail and tire the user.
  • Evasion - Users of elements such as Smoke and Swarm are able to evade Rising Dragon.
  • Shatterspin - Because these skillsets are counterparts, a user of Rising Dragon can be beaten by a better user of Shatterspin or a better Shatterspin move as shown in "Chaos Unchained" when Rox knocked Lloyd out of Rising Dragon with a Shatterspin blow after seeing his attack coming.[5][6][7]

Appearances
Trivia

Trivia[]

  • It is similar to both Airjitzu and the Elemental Dragons, as it is an element-based energy manifestation of a dragon which allows the wielder to soar around.
    • It's similar to both Spinjitzu and Airjitzu since it can be used even if the user isn't an Elemental Master. However, as shown with both Nya and Zane in "Elements of Betrayal," it is most likely that they wouldn't be able to shoot their respective element from their dragon avatars if they didn't have access to their powers.
  • Nya has done Rising Dragon the most amount of times on screen out of all the ninja.
    • Ironically, Nya has done Spinjitzu the least amount of times on screen out of all the original ninja.
  • Zane has done Rising Dragon the least amount of times on screen out of all the ninja (twice).
  • It is possible for one to learn both Rising Dragon and Shatterspin.[10]
  • Kai was seen being able to cancel Rising Dragon without the need to collide into something.[11]
  • Those proficient in Rising Dragon can perform the technique in various manners apart from Spinjitzu, as demonstrated by Egalt's ability to perform Rising Dragon without using Spinjitzu.[12]
  • The name Rising Dragon is inversed to the series' name Dragons Rising.
  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, a user requires a body to perform Rising Dragon, therefore ghosts can only perform this technique while possessing someone with a physical body. [13]
  • The user does not have a set time limit when performing Rising Dragon Technique, but rather its duration is based on the user's energy.[4]
    • This also similar to the Elemental Dragons, which disappear if their Masters run out of energy.
  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, Rising Dragon wasn't created as a counter to Shatterspin specifically, but rather "Just happens to counter".[14]
  • When asked if Cole knew Rising Dragon technique, Chris "Doc" Wyatt replied, "Hold onto this."[15]
  • Dragon Spinjitzu is another Spinjitzu related ability which involves a dragon avatar that was also introduced in Dragons Rising.
    • Ironically, both were used by the same ninja (three of which used the the two techniques in succession in "The Shatter Dragon").
