Drix

Overview

Drix was a corrupted anthropomorphic insect[1] from Chima,[2] a member of the Forbidden Five, and the Elemental Master of Swarm. For millennia, Drix and his fellow members were imprisoned in the Nether-Space by the Dragon Masters. During the Ritual of the Blood Moon, Ras attempted to liberate all five members of the group for the Tournament of the Sources but his efforts were only partially successful, resulting in the release of Nokt and inadvertently, Rox's soul, while Drix, Zarkt, and Kur remained imprisoned. Throughout the Tournament of the Sources, Drix and the others managed to establish a form of communication with Nokt and Rox.

Ultimately, at the tournament's conclusion, Nokt succeeded in liberating the remaining members of the Forbidden Five by using the combined might of three Arc Dragon Crowns and all the stolen Elemental Powers, albeit in a weakened state due to the portal's corrupt nature. Together, Drix and the other four members made their escape through a portal gate to the Cloud Kingdom, where Nokt subsequently destroyed the portal gate to be sent to a different realm.

Recovering from their weakened state, Drix and the others ambushed a vehicle to gather supplies, and they went to the First Land to free Thunderfang. He went on to recover two Prismatic Blades from the ninja in the World Forest and overpowered them and Lord Ras. Afterward, Thunderfang betrayed the Five and took their souls after being freed. Later, after Thunderfang's defeat, the Shatter Dragon took control of Drix and the other four as ghosts to capture souls across the Merged Realms in his plan to become a Source Dragon. Drix went to the Administration, where he collected souls from the Administration Agents but missed a few so Zarkt finished what he started. Once Thunderfang received enough souls, he sensed the ninja nearing his mortal enemy and sent Drix and the other four to stop them.

Drix, Rox, and Nokt were guarding the Spectral Lands when the three saw Arin and Lloyd with the Unbidden Storm, which can summon the Arc Dragon of Focus to defeat Thunderfang. Following Thunderfang's defeat, Drix's soul and the others disappeared.

History

History[]

Background[]

Native from a tribe of anthropomorphic insects in Chima,[2] Drix was a part of the Order of the Deep Shadow with Kur, and his path would cross with the siblings Nokt and Rox and their cousin Zarkt when Nokt dethroned the Raven King,[5] resulting in Drix joining forces with the others to form the Forbidden Five. At some point, Drix and his companions were selected by Thunderfang and granted the elusive power of Chaos from the Shatter Dragon, which gave them their own Elemental Powers and allowed them to cultivate remarkable abilities, such as a unique and corrupted form of Spinjitzu called Shatterspin, along with the use of Theroxian Magic. This allowed the group to exceed the capabilities of traditional Elemental Masters. Together, they established the Wolf Clan, where they shared their dark powers and techniques with the wolf warriors, ushering the clan into a golden age. However, the very powers they harnessed began to corrupt the Wolf Clan, including Drix, shattering the goodness in their souls.[6][7] As such, they were reduced to agents of chaos, wreaking havoc across the Wyldness using Shatterspin, compelling all who opposed them to either submit or face certain death.[8]

One day, while at the Shadow Dojo, Drix and the Forbidden Five were joined by the wolf warriors as Nokt returned from an assault on a Tiger Tribe. One survivor, Zarkar, questioned their ruthless actions, prompting laughter from Drix and the others. Rox justified the group's devastation as a show of strength, while Nokt urged them to prepare for further destruction across other realms.[9][8] Just then, the Dragon Masters arrived, countering the Forbidden Five's Shatterspin with the Rising Dragon technique. The Dragon Masters emerged victorious, casting Drix and the rest of the Forbidden Five to the Nether-Space with a powerful spell for millennia.[10]

Dragons Rising, Season 2[]

Rising Ninja[]

During the Ritual of the Blood Moon, when Jordana opened the gateway to the Nether-Space, Drix and the rest of the Forbidden Five gathered before the portal and watched as Nokt stepped forward to await a sacrifice.

Inside the Maze[]

Trapped in the Nether-Space, Drix, Kur, and Zarkt contacted Nokt and Rox (who is possessing Jordana's body) to discuss another way for their escape.

Trapped in the Nether-Space, Drix, Kur, and Zarkt contacted Nokt and Rox (who is possessing Jordana's body) to discuss another way for their escape.

Drix contacted Nokt and Rox while he, Zarkt, and Kur remained stuck in Nether-Space. The three then left the area, leaving Rox’s soulless body. This however led to Kai and Bonzle finding a way to communicate with Riyu through the scales the Fire Ninja had on him.

The Sword Shatters[]

Drix broke up a fight between Zarkt and Kur. The three then left the area, with Drix leading the way while Zarkt and Kur carried Rox's soulless body.

The Final Game[]

Drix stood alongside Zarkt and Kur to communicate with Nokt and Rox. The three stopped for a moment when they heard a sound, and Zarkt went to investigate, but found nothing. They then continued to communicate with Nokt and Rox.

Elements of Betrayal[]

Despite some interference from the ninja, Roby, and Ras, Nokt was able to free Drix and the other members of the Forbidden Five, including Rox's physical body, from the Nether-Space. However, the three were weakened and unconscious from the corrupted method used. After Nokt carried his and Kur's body to a portal gate, he decided to fight the Ninja and Ras to give the three time to regain consciousness. Drix soon recovered and the Forbidden Five fled through a gate to the Cloud Kingdom, but it collapsed and sent them somewhere else.

The Missing[]

Drix releasing insects at the civilians.

Drix and the Five attacked two civilians to steal their supplies to get to their First Land to release Thunderfang. After Zarkt disabled their truck and Kur decayed the two people, Drix used his powers to further drive them off so they can spread news that the Forbidden Five have returned. When Rox announced it was time to free their old ally Thunderfang, Drix and the rest of the Five grinned, with their eyes glowing red.

The Spectral Lands[]

Drix and the others arrived in the First Land where they start to terrorize the Storm Village, home of the Dragonians, to find Thunderfang's prison. The group eventually find the prison and went inside. Much to the Five's surprise, Thunderfang had been expecting them and they made a deal with the Chaos Dragon. Thunderfang agreed to give them the power they want if they free him. When the Five agreed, Thunderfang gave them the Sobrient Stone, a large gem from his ring, that would help them on their quest. Once Zarkt and Kur brought the gem out, Nokt broke it, which spread more of Thunderfang's energy throughout the village, allowing them to corrupt the Dragonians into warriors.

Drix and the Five also obtain the ability to fly due to the gem's dragon energy. The Five then began their hunt for the five Prismatic Blades, with Drix being assigned to find the Purple Prismatic Blade that can cut Thunderfang's neck chain.

Crashing Together[]

Arriving in the World Forest, Drix managed to claim the final two Prismatic Blades.

Arriving in the World Forest, Drix managed to claim the final two Prismatic Blades.

Drix arrived in the World Forest with several Dragonian Warriors. He then ordered the warriors to go after the Returning Blade while he claimed the blue Prismatic Blade. Landing near the rest of the ninja, Drix amusingly stated that fighting them would be easy in response to Kai's claim that he would regret sending his army away. He laughed while fighting Kai, dodging his Fire attacks and throwing him back at the other ninja. Drix also knocked back Frak with a Shatterspin-powered kick and deflected a laser blast from P.I.X.A.L.'s car. As Lloyd hides the blade, Drix pulls his sickles from his back when Nya attempted to use Rising Dragon, but the insect-like warrior avoided it using Swarm and counter attacked by kicking her into Kai, who angrily threw a fireball at the Forbidden Five member in response, burning a hole in his body, though the Master of Swarm regenerated from the damage, much to Kai’s horror and Frak's disgust. Drix then sheathed his sickles and unleashed his Swarm power onto the ninja, causing P.I.X.A.L.'s car to crash into a tree though Frak and the Nindroid managed to get out while Kai and Nya are battling his insects. With most of his opposition occupied, Drix attacks Lloyd, dodging his attacks and kicking him back. When Lloyd recovered from his attack, he saw Drix disappeared, where he claimed the Prismatic Blade by sneaking up on him using Swarm before knocking him down. While flying upward, Drix noticed the Ninja regrouping and uses Shatterspin to defeat them and escape.

After the Dragonians failed to defeat Ras, Drix snuck up on Ras and used a Shatterspin-powered punch to knock his hammer out of his hand. As Ras charged, Drix kicks up the hammer and struck the tiger warrior with it, knocking him out before claiming the fifth Prismatic Blade, holding it and the blue one up in victory. Drix then flew off to Thunderfang's prison with the Dragonian Warriors and a captive Ras.

Chaos Unchained[]

Drix went to the meeting point where Thunderfang was imprisoned. He was surprised to see the ninja had beaten him to the prison, as he had left them in the World Forest, unaware they used their portal gate, saying it was impossible for them to have beaten him to the First Land, but Lloyd says that Ninja are full of surprises. As Lloyd charges at him, Drix activates Shatterspin, but the Green Ninja uses Rising Dragon to blow him back. Drix orders the Dragonians to attack the ninja. He fights off an attack from both Kai and Nya. Lloyd fires an energy blast, which Drix deflects, and the green ninja declares he is canceling the appointment the insect warrior and the blades have with Thunderfang. Noticing another path, Drix laughs and says the conqueror's path is rarely a straight line but he is stopped by Riyu, Zane, and P.I.X.A.L., who hypothesized he would try to escape through this route. As Drix sees the other ninja show up and corner him within a cliff surrounding him, he spits out one of his insects to contact the rest of the Five for help. The fly went past the Ninja without any of them noticing, went through the Winds of Chaos, got to the Five, and alerted them to come from the tornado.

Drix manages to escape the cliff and continue battling the Ninja. As he fights the ninja, he deflects several of Lloyd's energy blasts but when he notices Riyu trying to attack him, a Dragonian Warrior stops the young dragon. This distraction causes him to lose the Blue Prismatic Blade when Lloyd blasts his arm off. As Lloyd grabs the Prismatic Blade, Drix restores his arm and notices the Ninja defeating the rest of his platoon. When the Green Ninja declares victory, the insect warrior sees the rest of the Five coming from one of the tornados and laughs, which the ninja notices. As the Five battle the Ninja, Drix sees Nokt coming to him and presents him with the Returning Blade, but Nokt shoved him aside and decided to prioritize the need to deal with Ras first than take the Returning Blade, much to the insect warrior’s confusion. As Nokt leaves with Ras, Drix continues to battle the ninja. Suddenly, Zane and Riyu attack the Master of Swarm from behind and knock the Returning Blade from him, with the Nindroid blasting two Dragonian Warriors and distracting the insect before Riyu knocked him down, with the Returning Blade ending up in Arin's hands. After recovering, Drix then notices Riyu taking the Blue Prismatic Blade and turns into a swarm of insects to attack him, which causes the dragon to be in pain and release the Blue Prismatic Blade but Arin grabs onto both blades and attempts to escape with them. Drix continues to attack Riyu, sending him to the ground when Rox recovers both blades and alerts the rest of the Five to head to the prison. Drix stops attacking Riyu and uses the tornado caused by the Winds of Chaos to distract the ninja and head into the cave, where he used the Returning Blade to free Thunderfang. After Thunderfang was released, he unleashed a wind blast that blew Drix and the other Five back. Rox then demanded the powers he had promised but the Chaos Dragon revealed that it was never his intention to keep his word, much to Drix's shock, and the dragon then absorbed his and the others' souls.

Casket of Bones[]

Drix arriving at the Well of the Lost.

Drix attacked the Administration to seize the souls of the Administration Agents. After successfully obtaining the souls, Drix returned to the Spectral Lands and transferred them into the Well of the Lost.

Under the Light of a Mechanical Moon[]

Drix was waiting at the Well with Rox and Kur when Zarkt arrived with more souls. Seeing Zarkt, Drix flanked him as the Master of Misfortune added in more souls he gathered from the Land of Lee.

For Whom the Bell Tolls[]

As Rox transferred the last batch of stolen souls into the well, it erupted with power, and Drix watched as his unwanted master started to become more powerful and begin his attempt to become a Source Dragon.

As his master became more powerful, growing a large claw, Drix flew closer next to Nokt and Kur. Thunderfang sensed the Ninja were near his eternal enemy, the Arc Dragon of Focus. He then ordered Drix and the Five to stop them, unaware of Lloyd and Arin’s presences in the Spectral Lands, waiting to use the Unbidden Storm once the rest of the Ninja awaken the two halves.

When Doves Cry[]

Drix and his ghostly comrades prepare to fight Arin and Lloyd.

Drix and his ghostly comrades prepare to fight Arin and Lloyd.

Along with Nokt and Rox, Drix charges and attacks Lloyd and Arin upon seeing the two back in the Spectral Lands. Thanks to their mechs being coated with Prismatic Ore, the duo were able to survive their spectral attacks. Drix was taken out when Lloyd grabbed him and threw him at Rox, which left the two incapacitated. When Lloyd remembers Bleckt telling him there was a cavern underneath the Well of the Lost, Drix and Rox recovered as Nokt fires Brute Force at Arin. Drix charges at the two with Rox but Arin and Lloyd manage to get into the cavern well.

Chaos Reigns[]

Drix looks at Thunderfang's wrath.

Drix went to the Well of the Lost with Nokt and Rox, as Thunderfang declared to the Source Dragons that they refused him of his rightful place among them but he will not be denied and will force himself into their ranks to make them pay for rejecting him.

When the Arc Dragon of Focus was summoned, Drix stood at the Well of the Lost with Rox and Nokt, watching their master fight his mortal enemy.

Thanks to Lloyd and Arin's focus, the Arc Dragon of Focus managed to defeat Thunderfang again by causing him to accidentally destroy the hill with the Well of the Lost. The destruction of the Well led to the ghostly dragon’s demise, which released a surge of soul energy that returned the souls to the Hollow Ones. In this process, Drix and the other spectral Hollow Ones dissipated.

Appearance

Appearance[]

Drix is an anthropomorphic insect with golden compound eyes, similar to those of flies,[11] and a red exoskeleton with spikes of the same color on his torso. His exoskeleton was also present on his head and he has hooks around his mouth resembling mandibles, as well as sharp teeth and visible dark red lips. Drix wore a black conical straw hat wider than standard ones and his clothes consist of a black robe with golden accents that is tied by a red belt and reveals his bare armored torso, a red fauld that resembles his exoskeleton, and black pants and boots with red knee pads and clawed toecaps respectively. His robe had the Forbidden Five's symbol in red and gold on the back and he also has shoulder pads composed of black spikes and a golden brooch shaped like an insect's head on the middle of his belt. However, after being hollowed and working under Thunderfang's power in the Spectral Lands, his skin color changed to light blue (unlike his torso, which remained its original color) and his eyes permanently glowed red.

Personality

Personality[]

“Oh, this should be easy.”
— Drix to the Ninja, "Crashing Together"

Drix, like the rest of the Forbidden Five, is an evil being who has no empathy towards his enemies as seen while he and the others mockingly laughed at Zarkar when the latter was emotionally shocked after losing his tribe to them and their destructive power. Drix is more focused on the group's goals and helps them the best he can. While trapped in the Nether-Space, he was shown to be far more patient than Zarkt and Kur, even physically separating the two when they got into an argument. He is also shown to be very power-hungry, wanting Thunderfang to empower him once he is free.

After being released, he wasted no time in harming two civilians and a village of peaceful Dragonians. When he found the Returning and blue Prismatic Blades, Drix showed a confident side when facing the Ninja at the World Forest although he didn't account that the Ninja would beat him to the First Land, which he expressed shock at but remained calm when fighting them. While he was confident before, the second time he fought the Ninja, he still managed to hold against them but was forced to call the rest of the Five for backup. He showed a sense of resourcefulness, using both Swarm and Shatterspin to defeat the Ninja and complete his mission at all cost, bringing extraordinary results. Drix also lacks his comrades' arrogance and often resorts to being a quick-thinker in tough situations.

Drix brought Nokt a "present".

Drix brought Nokt a "present".

However, despite his ruthlessness, he was shown to have a polite and caring side to his comrades, as he presented the Returning Blade to Nokt, despite the latter being more interested in Ras instead. He is also similarly polite towards his enemies, acting professionally in battle and never insulting them. He is also most of the time with a stoic expression when it isn't fear or a smile.

After Thunderfang revealed his intentions to never fulfill his part of the deal, Drix showed visible shock and fear at this act of betrayal. He quickly became angry, but was unable to do anything, as Thunderfang quickly absorbed his soul.

After Thunderfang absorbed his soul, Drix became a Hollow One with complete obedience to his master. He appeared to want to be free of his master's control as he didn't use his Swarm power to stop Lloyd and Arin from going into the cavern under the Well of the Lost. In addition, while he previously launched several attacks on other realms, he missed a few of them and when Thunderfang fought the Arc Dragon of Focus, he didn't seem to mind his master's fight and defeat.

Weapons and abilities[]

Abilities[]

“Yaah! Aw, that's worse than puppets.”
  • Swarm: Drix has the Elemental Power of Swarm. He often used it to transform into a swarm of flies, enabling him to disperse, evade attacks, or overwhelm enemies.
  • Shatterspin: Since Drix was one of its creators, he possesses an advanced Shatterspin skillset. Drix is able to harness the powerful waves of the technique in a controlled manner of attack. He is also one of the few who don’t require the Gong of Shattering and a Wolf Mask.
  • Theroxian Magic: Being a member of the Forbidden Five, Drix was highly skilled in Theroxian magic, but his abilities are currently unknown.
  • Insect Physiology: As an anthropomorphic insect from the Wyldness, Drix has the following abilities:
    • Superhuman vision: Like a regular insect, Drix possesses exceptional sight at superhuman degrees, allowing him to see things from far away.
    • Night vision: Like a regular insect, Drix possesses exceptional night vision, enabling him to see in dark environments like a cave or at night.
    • Superhuman strength: Despite being the physically weakest of the Five, Drix demonstrated superhuman strength, enough to lift Kai off the ground and throw him around. He was also strong enough to kick Nya into Kai and even kick Lloyd back to a corner of a tree. Using Shatterspin or the Icon of the Source Dragon of Strength, he was able to easily overpower Ras with a single punch (with a bit of help from Shatterspin) and knock him out the second time with his own hammer.
    • Superhuman speed/reflexes: Drix is described as the fastest of the Five, being able to keep up with the Ninja and take them on before they even had time to react. He also anticipated Ras charging at him on four limbs in the World Forest and was able to travel from the World Forest to the First Land within minutes and managed to evade Nya's water blast and several of Lloyd's energy blasts.
    • Superhuman agility: Drix is also very agile even in flight, as he managed to avoid most of the Ninja's attacks while they cornered him.
    • Superhuman stamina/endurance: Drix has superhuman stamina and endurance, as he managed to continue fighting the Ninja despite being outnumbered and even after Riyu took him by surprise.
  • Chaos empowerment: Because Drix gained powers from Thunderfang's dark dragon energy, he can gain more from Thunderfang.
    • Flight/Levitation: After receiving energy from the Sobrient Stone, Drix gained the ability to fly and levitate while standing still.
    • Weatherly Presence: Drix could generate a field that triggers chaotic storms, creating a dark weather phenomenon merely through his presence.
  • Skilled combatant: As a member of the Forbidden Five, Drix is a formidable combatant who was able to easily beat the ninja in his first encounter, being able to throw Kai back without any abilities, defeat Frak, and overpower Lloyd. When combining his combat skills with Swarm, it became difficult for the ninja to even touch him, since he easily maneuvered around them like an Elemental Master of Smoke and bested Nya's Rising Dragon Technique. He was also able to beat Ras quite easily. His combat skills are impressive, as unlike some of the members who escaped from the Nether-Space and the portal gate explosion, he didn't suffer any side effects that hindered his abilities.
  • Leadership: As one of the leaders of the Wolf Clan, Drix led the wolf warriors to launch attacks wherever the Forbidden Five wanted in the Wyldness. In the present, he led his platoon of Dragonian Trackers to hunt the remaining two Prismatic Blades and later Spectral Dragonians to capture the souls of Administration Agents.
  • Stealth: Drix is also skilled in sneaking up on people. He managed to arrive in the World Forest where the Ninja were unaware of his presence until his weatherly presence gave him away. He additionally managed to sneak up on Lloyd to retrieve the Blue Prismatic Blade without the latter noticing and later snuck up on Ras to knock him out and and obtain the Returning Blade.
  • Ghost physiology: As a ghost, Drix has the following abilities:
    • Immortality: Drix is unable to die naturally due to lacking a mortal body.
    • Intangibility: Drix could phase through solid matter.
    • Flight/Levitation: Drix is permanently suspended in the air and can freely move through it and control his altitude.
    • Spectral Perception: Drix can perceive hidden spiritual energy.
    • Spectrokinesis: Drix can manipulate and control other ghosts, such as the Spectral Dragonians.
    • Soul absorption: Drix can absorb and store the souls of another individual via his Magical flute.
    • Cold Presence: Drix can make the temperature drop through his presence.
      • Caligogenesis: Drix's presence can also cause a cold fog to appear.
    • Electronic Disruption: Drix can cause electronics shut down.

Weapons[]

  • Naginata (formerly): Drix wielded a naginata as his primary weapon, as seen in Bonzle's depiction.
  • Sickles (formerly): After being freed from the Nether-Space, Drix wielded sickles as his primary weapon.
  • Blue Prismatic Blade (formerly): Drix recovered the Blue Prismatic Blade from the Ninja at the World Forest. It was given to Zarkt to release Thunderfang.
  • Returning Blade (formerly): Drix recovered the Returning Blade from Ras at the World Forest. He used the blade to parry several attacks from Lloyd and Nya and later cut the chain around Thunderfang's neck.
  • Magical flute (formerly): After Drix fell under Thunderfang's control, he used a magical flute to absorb the Administration Agents' souls.
  • Spectral sword: While fighting alongside Nokt and Rox against Lloyd and Arin in the Spectral Lands, Drix wielded a Spectral sword.
Weaknesses

Weaknesses[]

  • Pesticide - Being an insect, Drix is sensitive to pesticide, which could even kill him.[13]
  • Poison - Despite his high regeneration, Drix is unable to survive being poisoned.[13]
  • Drowning - As an insect, Drix is unable to swim and would die drowning in water.[13]

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • He is the second canon anthropomorphic insect to appear in the franchise, following the beetle warriors.
    • However, there is also the Insect Master, who comes in a non-canon installment.
  • His straw hat is much larger in the show than others seen previously, however on his minifigure, it's the same size as other straw hats.
  • His Elemental Power is very similar to the abilities and powers of the Marvel supervillain Swarm, but with flies instead of bees.
  • His face is similar to that of Big Chill from Ben 10: Alien Force.
  • Nokt often disliked Drix.[15]
  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, while Drix is the fastest among the Forbidden Five[16] and possesses a more "cooler and grosser power", he is physically the weakest member of the group.[17]
    • He also said Drix is the youngest member of the Five.[18]
      • Despite being "the weakest", Drix is the only member who obtained more than one Prismatic Blade and defeated a vast majority of the Ninja without any assistance or stolen Elemental Powers like Nokt.
  • Drix shares some similarities with Zane:
    • Drix's use of sickles somewhat mirrors Zane's use of shurikens as both are the only members of their teams to use a dual pair of weaponry.
    • Drix's exposed torso may reference how Zane's chest is exposed on several of his gi.
    • Drix is shown to be the most focused of the Forbidden Five, similarly to how Zane is the most focused of the Ninja.
    • He is also the most relaxed member of the Forbidden Five, not taking his opponents seriously and constantly laughing instead of fighting.
    • Him being the youngest of the Forbidden Five could foil how Zane is the oldest of the ninja.
      • It may also reference how Zane was the youngest of the ninja in his titanium body from "Tournament of Elements" to "March of the Oni".
    • Similarly to how Zane is the only robot of the Ninja group, Drix is the only non-canine of the Forbidden Five.
  • Every time he appeared on-screen, he did not blink like other characters. This is possibly due to the fact that he has bug-like eyes.
  • Although Drix is male, the Mandarin Chinese and German dubs portray the character as female[19] although in certain descriptions of the German dubbing, he is treated as male.
  • He is the only member of the Forbidden Five to not be a mammal.
    • He is also the only member of the Forbidden Five who was not seen activating Shatterspin by stomping the ground.
  • Despite his skin turning light blue following his demise in "Chaos Unchained" and becoming a ghost, his torso and legs remained its original color (red).
