Plot

Arrakore welcomes them and recalls wielding a banner mount during the Battle of Two Skies before the ninja explain that they are searching for the Cave of Bells to awaken the Arc Dragon of Focus. Arrakore reveals that the Cave of Bells has been restored, but the Arc Dragon has not. He explains that although his wish magic has been powerful enough to restore Djinjago's landmarks and artifacts, it cannot yet bring living beings back to life. Sora wishes for the Arc Dragon to be restored, but Arrakore's magic alone is insufficient. With Zanth's boost of Djinjagan magic, the two decide to combine their powers, warning the ninja that the wish will require complete concentration and absolute silence. The ninja agree to remain quiet while Arrakore and Zanth begin the wish inside the Cave of Bells. However, Wyldfyre unknowingly disrupts the silence by wearing a pair of noisy metal shoes, loudly clanging them together and asking if she had missed something.

Back at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Ras attacks Geo, throwing him into Master Wu's portrait. Mr. Frohicky helps Geo back to his feet as Ras taunts them, claiming the Ninja have abandoned them for more important matters and asking whether it hurts to realize how little they care. Geo and Mr. Frohicky become angered by Ras' words.

While Arrakore and Zanth concentrate on restoring the Arc Dragon of Focus, Sora and Frak quietly practice memorizing the spell song. Wyldfyre grows impatient with the silence until a loud horn interrupts them. Believing Wyldfyre made the noise, Sora is surprised when the sound is revealed to have come from the Freebooters, who arrive in Djinjago. Rapton declares that the treasures of Djinjago now belong to him and orders the Claw Hunters to collect everything they can. Sora warns that the relics belong to Arrakore, who must not be disturbed, prompting Rapton to tell his crew to steal the treasure as quietly as possible while reserving any jeweled box for himself. When Sora refuses to let them plunder Djinjago, Rapton challenges the ninja, and the Freebooters quietly attack with their Imperium Swords.

Elsewhere in Mysterium, Nya, hiding the coconut, attempts to reach the cave but is stopped by Powerlid, who refuses to let anyone pass without paying gems. Despite Nya explaining that she is trying to save the world, Powerlid repeatedly raises the price and attacks her when she cannot pay. Kai arrives just in time to destroy the thrown rock with a fireball and comes to Nya's aid after learning that she is carrying out the mission alone. While speaking with them, the coconut accidentally reveals that it can talk, prompting Powerlid to recognize its voice as Gandalaria, his former best friend. Realizing Gandalaria is with Nya and Kai, Powerlid seeks revenge and attacks them.

Arrakore continues concentrating on the wish to restore the Arc Dragon of Focus while the ninja quietly battle the Freebooters outside. Sora fights Rapton, Riyu prevents two Claw Hunters from stealing a treasure chest, and Frak confronts another while repeatedly warning everyone to keep the noise down. During the struggle, a teapot is nearly dropped, but Frak catches it before it can crash to the floor, allowing Arrakore to maintain his concentration. Wyldfyre joins the fight while Sora continues battling Rapton. He asks Sora whether she has seen a jeweled box, then attacks her when she questions him. Sora retaliates by spinning Rapton into a chair, causing him to notice a small pentagonal box hidden on a nearby table. Realizing he has found the treasure he was searching for, Rapton grabs the box just as the fighters once again remind one another to remain quiet so Arrakore's wish is not interrupted.

Powerlid continues attacking Nya and Kai until Kai convinces him to stop and talk about his feelings instead of acting on his anger. Powerlid reveals that he has been hurt ever since his best friend, Gandalaria, disappeared after failing to meet him for a gem hunt. The coconut admits that Gandalaria neglected their friendship by disappearing without an explanation and apologizes for never talking things through. Powerlid accepts the apology and reconciles with Gandalaria. Although Powerlid made amends, he still insists on charging them a discounted fee. Kai instead distracts him by knocking over his crate of gems with a fireball. As Powerlid rushes to gather his scattered collection, Kai and Nya take the opportunity to run toward the cave to continue their mission.

Rapton escapes with the small pentagonal box while he and the Freebooters retreat to their hover chariots with Djinjago's stolen treasures. Sora, Frak, and Wyldfyre pursue them, determined to prevent the thieves from escaping while Arrakore and Zanth continue restoring the Arc Dragon of Focus. Before fleeing, Rapton throws two spiked bombs in an attempt to distract the ninja and disrupt Arrakore's concentration. Working together in silence, Sora disables one bomb with her Tech abilities while Frak tosses the other to Riyu, who kicks it safely into the air before it explodes. The Freebooters then escape aboard their hover chariots despite Wyldfyre's attempt to stop them. Choosing not to continue the pursuit, the ninja wait for Arrakore and Zanth to finish the wish. The two emerge from the Cave of Bells exhausted, revealing that the restoration is complete before collapsing into a deep sleep from the effort. Eager to see the results, the ninja head into the Cave of Bells to find the restored Arc Dragon of Focus.

In the Spectral Lands, Lloyd and Arin arrive near the village where Thunderfang is continuing his transformation. However, because Thunderfang was to close to the well, it was impossible to reach without confronting him. Before they can devise a plan, Drix, Rox, Nokt, and a group of Spectral Dragonians appear and attack. Thanks to the Prismatic Ore coating on their mechs, Lloyd and Arin withstand the assault and successfully fend off the Dragonians. Pleased that the armor is working as intended, Lloyd credits Sora's modifications, but their brief victory is cut short as Drix, Rox, and Nokt advance to engage them directly.

Mr. Frohicky attempts to stand up to Ras, but Ras easily overpowers him. Geo refuses to back down, declaring that he will protect his family and the Monastery. Mr. Frohicky activates the Monastery's training course, causing Ras to drop his hammer. Geo seizes the opportunity to disarm Ras, pinning his arm to an obstacle with his Fusion powers while Barry and Jenny are ordered to hide. Ras breaks free by destroying his own armor and continues fighting without his weapon. He swiftly defeats Geo, knocking him unconscious before forcing Mr. Frohicky to lead him to Master Wu's study. Before Ras can leave, Mr. Frohicky notices something approaching from the east. Rontu suddenly arrives and strikes Ras, freeing Mr. Frohicky. Ras taunts Rontu by claiming to have imprisoned a Source Dragon before he reveals that he possesses two Source Dragon Icons, challenging Rontu as he orders Rontu to deliver his regards to Egalt. After a fierce battle, Ras gravely injures Rontu. He then captures Mr. Frohicky once again and forces him to take him to Wu's study.

The Freebooters continue their escape through the skies. Believing himself victorious, Rapton opens the small pentagonal box to admire its contents, revealing a rare Djinjagan unicorn figurine that completes his collection. Their celebration is interrupted when Kur flies past them. But to their surprise, Kur passed by them. Relieved that they were not her target, Rapton and his crew continue their escape while Kur presses onward toward her own destination.

Rox, Drix, Nokt, and the Spectral Dragonians intensify their assault on Lloyd and Arin. Despite the protection provided by the Prismatic Ore coating, the two struggle to hold off the overwhelming force. Lloyd repels Drix by throwing him into Rox, while Arin continues fending off the Spectral Dragonians. As Nokt attempts to seize the Unbidden Storm from Arin, Lloyd intervenes and temporarily restrains him, giving Arin an opportunity to reach the Well of the Lost. However, the Spectral Dragonians surround Arin before he can reach it. Recognizing that the well leads to a cavern below, Lloyd devises a desperate plan. After Nokt breaks free, Lloyd and Arin deliberately crash their mechs into the weakened ground beneath the well, causing it to collapse and sending themselves tumbling into the cavern below.

Inside Djinjago's Cave of Bells, Sora, Wyldfyre, Frak, and Riyu discover that Arrakore and Zanth have successfully restored the Arc Dragon of Focus, which lies asleep beneath the cave. Frak eagerly prepares to ring the bells needed to awaken the dragon, but Sora insists that they rehearse the spell song first to avoid making a mistake. As Sora and Frak try to remember the melody, they realize they each recall it differently. Wyldfyre confidently offers her own version, only for the others to point out that she is singing the tune from Rapton's horn instead of the spell song. The group realizes they have completely forgotten the correct melody, stemmed from the confusion caused by the earlier battle.

Nya and Kai arrive at Mysterium's Cave of Bells, carrying the coconut containing Gandalaria's backup personality. They find the other half of the Arc Dragon of Focus still asleep, and Nya recalls the Spell Song of Waking needed to awaken it. Before they can begin the trial, they discover that the cave's bells have transformed into doves after spending so long in Mysterium's naturally magical environment. The coconut explains that such transformations are common in the realm, leaving Nya and Kai uncertain how they can complete the trial without the bells needed to perform the Spell Song of Waking.

Sora, Wyldfyre, Frak, and Riyu continue trying to recall the correct Spell Song of Waking before time runs out. Convinced that he remembers the melody, Frak attempts to perform the trial himself by striking the bells. However, Frak plays the wrong notes, causing the cave to glow red as the trial fails. Sora discovers that the failed attempt has activated one of three crystals in the cave, revealing that they have only three chances to awaken the Arc Dragon of Focus. With one chance already wasted, the group realizes the margin for error has become much smaller.

Kai attempts to communicate with one of the doves, but the bird pecks him and nearly knocks him from the ladder. While discussing possible ways to control the doves, the coconut recalls that Janet once trained a dove using food as a reward. Realizing the birds can be lured with snacks, Kai produces one of Geo's homemade wafers. Although he finds the wafer inedible, Nya uses it to attract one of the doves. The dove eats the wafer and chirps a musical note, causing one of the Focus crystals to glow. The group realizes they have found a way to reproduce the Spell Song of Waking despite the bells having transformed into doves.

Sora makes a second attempt to perform the Spell Song of Waking, carefully recalling the melody before striking the bells. Despite her caution, she again plays the wrong note, causing a second Focus crystal to glow red and leaving the group with only one remaining chance to awaken the Arc Dragon of Focus. Sora and Frak argue over who should make the final attempt, but before either can act, Wyldfyre impulsively seizes the hammer and strikes the next bell. At the same time, in Mysterium, Nya successfully guides the doves to sing the remaining notes of the Spell Song of Waking. The two Cave of Bells synchronizes, completing the melody and awakening both halves of the Arc Dragon of Focus, which roars before teleporting away. Unsure whether the trial has fully succeeded, Sora and the others can only hope that the rest of the ninja have accomplished their part of the Trials of Focus.

Beneath the Well of the Lost, Lloyd and Arin free themselves from the rubble caused by the cave-in. Although Lloyd regrets risking their plan, Arin discovers that they have successfully reached the Source-Henge, where the healing elixir is located. As they search for the Unbidden Storm, Arin recovers it from beneath a fallen rock, only to discover that it has cracked during the collapse. Realizing the artifact has been destroyed, Lloyd blames himself for ruining their final chance to stop Thunderfang. Meanwhile, Thunderfang continues absorbing soul energy as his transformation progresses.

  • Alfonzo Frohicky's full name is revealed.
  • Ras knew about Egalt's death as Egalt was a well known figure and news of his demise spread.[5]
  • It is unknown why Heatwave, Jiro and the Ice Dragon did not attempt to stop Ras at any point, as Rontu who was also in the Dragon stables yet knew of his presence. Though it is possible that Rontu had told them to stand by so she can deal with the problem alone. Another possible reason is that they did try to fight back ether before or after Rontu was defeated only to suffer the same fate.
  • This is the only version of the Spell-Song necessary to awaken each half of the Arc Dragon of Focus that is played by bells.
    • The order of which bell is rung per note can be inferred from the information given in this episode as 154232345321 with 1 being the bell furthest to the left and 5 being the bell furthest to the right.
    • Furthermore, the bells are positioned in order of pitch with the bell on the left being the lowest and bell on the right being the highest.
  • One of Frohicky's quotes in this episode, "Something's coming from the east", was also said by Rox in the flashback of "The Final Game".

  • This is the second time bells have played a key role in Ninjago as a whole. The first time was when Lloyd rang the bell inside the top of the Temple of Light to give the ninja their Elemental Blades and Kimonos and grant himself the power of the Ultimate Spinjitzu Master.
