These are the relationships of the Water Ninja, Nya.
Family
Family[]
Kai[]
Nya and Kai
Kai is Nya's older brother. Growing up, he was the only family she had following their parents' disappearance; because of that the two are very close and have a strong bond, however, she can find him a little annoying. Earlier on in the series, Nya often looked down on her brother and was very tough on him. But it was only because his anger, impatience, and overconfidence constantly worried her, she loves her brother and doesn't want to see him get hurt. Nya being kidnapped was the reason that Kai became a ninja, as he wanted to save her.
Kai was the first ninja to find out about Nya being the vigilante Samurai X and agreed to keep her secret after she stated her reasons for it. Nya was also touched when her brother supported her endeavors and thanked him for his belief in her.
After she awakened her powers, Kai was proud of her skills and happy that she also became a ninja and expressed pride in taking down the Preeminent. Nya then worked alongside her brother to fight off many threats. She also stopped him from attacking their father and accusing their parents of being traitors after they found them before the truth was revealed.
As of the Season 8 finale, Nya was under the impression that her brother is dead and unaware he is in another realm.
In the Season 9 episode "Firstbourne," Nya is still sad at losing her brother and wants to honor his memory by continuing to fight. However, she learns that he was instead teleported to somewhere after she and the others find a piece of a leaf for Traveler's Tea.
In "Green Destiny," Nya is reunited with her brother and quickly contacts him to tell him she hears him. They fight off the sons of Garmadon with his aid. Afterward, the siblings celebrate their victory once Garmadon is defeated.
During "The Fall," Kai comforted Nya as she broke down at unintentionally causing Cole to fall to the darkness and encouraged her by speaking highly of her creativity and calling her the brains of the group, something that caught her by surprise. Kai's words also caused Nya to get an idea to defeat the threat, as Kai was amazed at her thinking. But when Kai doubted his skills as a Blacksmith, Nya gave him encouragement that he was the only chance the world had.
When Nya became a water spirit, he was amazed and stated he would have to get used to it until he learned that she was leaving. Kai sadly watched as his sister became the embodiment of the Endless Sea. Along with Jay, he took her departure the hardest and at her memorial, he nearly broke down. But Kai soon accepted her sacrifice and decided to keep fighting in memory of his sister. It was Nya's return that stopped Kai and Jay fighting and it gave them the idea of have Aspheera take away her elemental power to save Nya, successful, Kai was relieved to have his sister back.
Kai and Nya happily reunited in the Realm of Madness
When the Merge occured, Nya and Kai were separated for a long time but reunited in the Land of Madness and warmingly embraced each other, they decided to help the Craglings defend their home from the Earth Dragons, but an accident happened and Kai was thrown out of the battlefield, assumed dead. Nya tried to search for him but lost hope which left her saddened. Nya learned that Kai was ok which relieved her but later found he brought the dragons back to the Cragling village which soon angered her.
They worked together to save the village with the other Ninja and later ventured into the Cloud Kingdom, only to find a Mergequake was happening and endangered the realm. Kai and Nya used their Spinjitzu to defeat the monster alongside Lloyd, the attempted to research a way to permanently stop Mergequakes but it backfired into all of them being attacked but saved by Arin. All the Ninja regrouped along with Euphrasia to defeat the Tentacled beasts and end their threat to Clound kingdom, after succeding in battle Nya decided to stay in the Cloud Kingdom to keep researching ways to stop the Merge, hopeful to discover a solution.
They later found themselves again under an unknown building, learning they were both teleported to the Monastery of Imperium in order to awaken Zane and help the other Ninja save the captured Dragons. After the search for the three Dragon Cores: Nya, Kai, and the other Ninja joined forces to stop Beatrix. Nya was saddened to see her brother supposedly killed by Beatrix's weapon and joined Rapton to help take her down. And soon after she was going to give her brother a hug but was soon interrupted by Wyldfyre, however Nya was relieved to see her brother back.
In Season 2 (Dragons Rising), it was the bond Nya and Kai shared that allowed each of them to unlock their Rising Dragon Technique: Kai unlocking his by remembering the game him and Nya used to play as kids and Nya unlocking hers after seeing Kai banished to the Nether-Space. After the Ritual of the Blood Moon, Nya often comforted Wyldfyre as she was deeply hurt by Kai's banishment, explaining to her that Nya missed her brother as well, especially due to the fact that they grew up together and Nya always looked up to Kai, she hoped her brother would be ok.
Nya effectively communicating with her brother.
After learning about what happened to Jay and losing to Nokt in her battle, Nya decided to go on a journey alone to find Jay but before she could do that, Nya heard Kai's voice, and with Riyu's help, Kai and Nya effectively communicated with each other both happy to hear each other again. Nya was hopeful to save Kai from the Nether-Space but was soon captured. But after the games ended and in the final battle against Nokt, Nya freed Kai and Bonzle from the Nether-Space, shocked at first, but soon relieved to have her brother back. After they returned to the Monastery of Spinjitzu Nya told Kai what happened with Jay and decided to go with Nya to find him and bring Jay back to his senses.
From "The Missing" until "The Spectral Lands", Kai, along with Wyldfyre, go with Nya in search of Jay. But Nya gets annoyed with Kai's fidgetting and foolishness with Wyldfyre almost to the point she wanted to abandon her brother to the Lightning-Tides, but didn't. She was fed up with their immaturity, but it was also coming from her constant stress over Jay that was overwhelming her, so Nya tried to restrain herself. In "The Spectral Lands", Kai came up with a plan to bring Jay to them by beating his high score on Galamorph X-Post, Nya though it was a bad idea but still gave it a try. She was also reminiscing about a time when Jay, Cole, and Kai were playing video games and was happy to know that Kai's idea worked (despite his doubts), so she hugged her brother with relief.
In Fallen Wishes, Nya taunted Kai about him skimming the book recklessly. He thought that she was playing a prank on Kai but was still happy about it.
In "Their Draconic Majesty's Request" Nya taunted Kai about his overconfidence with the Prismatic Blade.
In Crashing Together, Nya and Kai worked together to fight Drix but were constantly overpowered.
In Chaos Unchained, Nya was annoyed with Kai when she mentioned the picnic with Jay that Kai tagged along with despite not being invited by Nya. She told her brother not to listen to Jay's dare, but Kai did it anyway because he didn't want to look uncool. It ended with Kai having a swarm of clamp beetles chasing him, though he thought it looked cool despite Nya's detestment.
Ray[]
Nya and Kai reunited with their father Ray.
Ray is Nya and Kai's father who disappeared sometime after her birth. Having been very young at the time of his disappearance, Nya has vague memories of her father, but like her brother, she wished to find out where and why he left. They don't interact much onscreen but it can be assumed they have the relationship of any typical father and daughter.
In Season 7: The Hands of Time, she and Kai realized their parents are alive and were confused by Krux's declaration of them being traitors. When she and Kai came face to face with their parents, she was welcoming of them but her brother was less forthcoming. Nya then learned that her parents were forced to help the twins after Krux threatened her and Kai when they were young.
Ray was present at Nya's memorial, saddened at the loss of his daughter.
Maya[]
Nya with her mother.
Maya is Nya and Kai's mother and the one who she inherited her elemental powers from, she disappeared sometime after Nya's birth. Being very young at her disappearance, Nya has vague memories of her mother and does not know how mothers properly treat their children.
In Season 7: The Hands of Time, she and Kai realize their parents are still alive and were confused by Krux's declaration of them being traitors. When she and Kai came face to face with their parents, she was welcoming of them but her brother was less forthcoming. Nya then learned that her parents were forced to help the twins after Krux threatened her and Kai when they were young. After the Time Twins threatened their parents, she and Kai were forced to retrieve the Time Blade to protect them.
Sometime after Hands of Time, Nya became estranged from her, due to the latter treating her as if she was still a little girl.
In Seabound, Nya was annoyed that Kai called their parents without her consent as Maya started to try and motivate her, believing she had lost concentration of her Water powers, until learning the cause was underwater.
At first, Nya was angry when Maya stowed away on the Hydro Bounty and annoyed when she tried to help her. She also briefly displayed some annoyance over her mother's absence on her childhood, but Maya was quick to remind her that it wasn't her choice since she was imprisoned, which Nya seemed to understand.
But after spending time and understanding each other better, she became close to her mother. Nya even thanked her for coming along as well as her encouragement.
Maya became sad when she found out that Nya has merged herself with the Endless Sea to defeat Wojira and Kalmaar and was later seen comforting Jay before her memorial.
Love Interest
Love Interest[]
Jay[]
Nya and Jay: Yin and Yang
Jay is Nya's boyfriend. Since the beginning of the show, Nya has displayed a romantic relationship with Jay which has been put her under stress on several occasions. She and Jay were clearly mutually attracted to one another, though as of "The Surge," Nya had spoken to Jay about boundaries. In the same episode, her perfect match was revealed to be Cole.
Later, after she became the Master of Water and a part of the team, Nya had distanced herself from the former, insisting there was nothing remaining between the two and they were simply friends, much to Jay's disappointment.
However, by the end of Skybound, when Nya was dying due to poisoning, Jay saved her by undoing all of Nadakhan's actions. In the finale, she reconciled her relationship with Jay and they shared a kiss.
As of the Season 8 finale, Nya was under the impression that her boyfriend was dead and unaware he is in another realm.
In "Firstbourne," Nya is still sad at losing her boyfriend and wanted to honor his memory by continuing to fight against Garmadon. However, she learns that he was instead teleported to somewhere after she and the others find a piece of a leaf for Traveler's Tea.
Nya and Jay
In "Green Destiny," Nya was reunited with her boyfriend and quickly contacted him to tell him she heard him, and they fought off the sons of Garmadon with his aid. She hugged him in their reunion before they took the fight to Garmadon. In the end, they shared a hug after peace is restored to Ninjago.
In "Endings," Nya is asked by Jay to be his Yang before they confront the Oni, to which she says yes. She wears half of the medallion on her chest for the rest of the episode.
In "One Step Forward, Two Steps Back," Nya and Jay participated in a dance competition to win 500 credits for the Speedway Five-Billion. They were performing well until they noticed another couple cheating their way to victory. The cheating couple threatened Jay, kicked out two other couples, and even hurt Nya's heel. This made Nya and Jay aware of their rivals' dishonest tactics. To gain an advantage, Nya and Jay used the Red Visors and disrupted the other dancers' moves. Finally, they performed a final dance move to secure the credits. Jay took this opportunity to express his love for Nya, bringing a smile to her face.
In "The Temple of Madness", Jay and Nya overcome all the deadly obstacles and enemies there were to face before having to fight Unagami. As they hugged each other for their work, Sushimi, who they defeated just before, attempts to kill Jay by throwing his Pufferfish malice at him. Nya threw herself in front of her Yin and took the hit, killing her and turning her into an Energy Cube, much to Jay's dismay.
In "Game Over," Nya and the other ninja who were formerly cubed were revived, after Jay and Milton Dyer successfully console Unagami to release the gamers and NPCs in Prime Empire. She and Jay ran up to each other and shared a kiss.
At the end of Seabound, Nya had been shown to care very much for Jay as she is willing to merge with the Endless Sea to save him. Shortly before sacrificing herself, Nya looked back at the door and she mouthed saying, "I love you," which is the first time she said it to Jay, though not in front of him.
Despite Nya losing herself to the Endless Sea, she retained some of her love for Jay when she comforted him before leaving. Jay was one of the people who took Nya's departure the hardest, which caused him to fall into a deep depression.
Her return eventually helped him turn his life back around before helping the others break Aspheera out to remove Nya's connection to the Endless Sea, at the cost of them being incarcerated, and was sad when Judge Toughbutt refused her visitation rights, until she and Dareth break the others out. Upon being encountered by the Mechanic, following the Bounty's destruction, Jay refused to abandon her on her insistence and encouraged her to contact Benthomaar to help against the Crystal Army.
Nya sees Jay in an illusion of her fear.
Upon reuniting with Lloyd several years after the Merge, Jay was the first person she asked about, before learning that Jay was still missing, depressing her.
Nya reunites with Jay.
In "Beyond the Phantasm Cave", the illusion shows that Nya fears that Jay doesn't remember her anymore, and she later tells Lloyd that the real Jay would never forget her, and calls him the love of her life.
Nya is saddened that Jay hates her.
In "Inside the Maze," she managed to reunite with him, but he didn't remember her. No matter how she tried to convince him that he is a ninja and the love of her life, it does not work out. After defeating Jay and gaining his power, Nya watched as he was cast aside by Ras and tried to comfort him. She expressed her love, saying that despite him not remembering her, she would always love him. Still, he expressed hatred due to being corrupted by Shatterspin. Nya was heartbroken and was sad during fireworks after her victory. After finding out that Jay left the City of Temples, Nya decided to search for him. However, her search was delayed due to the other Ninja reminding her that the Tournament is a threat to the Merged Realms and finding out that she can communicate with Kai. Despite this, Nya was still determined to get Jay his memories back.
In "The Shatter Dragon", Nya reunites with the still-amnesiac Jay, who had put on a disguise for his new occupation as a bounty hunter, however she found out who he was instantly, as well as convinced him to come back to the monastery to heal from injuries, still trying to get him to remember her.
Nya tried to get Jay to remember her throughout their missions, but Jay kept being rude to her and dismissing her, even showing disgust as acting like her husband, saddening her. Her stubborance insistance that he is a ninja only causes Jay to further distrust her. Something that Nya failed to acknowledge, since she was too desperate to get him to remember.
The climax of their relationship came after Jay calls the Ninja out for not getting paid or going for Ras, and decides to leave right when they were about to release the arc dragon of energy to save the world. Nya is finally fed up with Jay and snaps that she thought she could bring Jay back to his old self, but she was wrong. Jay looks visibly saddened for a little, before saying another snarky comment and leaving. Nya then admitted her frustration that she couldn't believe how much Jay had changed and told herself she doesn't need him.
Jay later saves her and defeats Zarkt, and Nya is happy to see him again. Jay tries to act tough and claim that he only came back randomly, but later admits that he enjoyed their time together and what Nya said really stuck with him. After hearing him say that, she hugged him, which he accepted.

Mentors[]
Master Wu[]
Nya training under Wu.
Wu is the Sensei of the ninja, she gets along well with as it was thanks to that her brother was able to save her from Garmadon. Though not a ninja in the first four seasons, Wu and Nya were shown to get along and he was able to impart wisdom to her whenever she felt left out of the ninja's activities.
In Season 5, Wu informed a surprised Nya that she was the Elemental Master of Water, to her shock. Wu then started to train her in the usage of her power to become a ninja. Nya is now one of Wu's students along with her brother Kai and the others.
In Season 7, she and the other ninja come to his aid when he fights Acronix by himself. She later saves Wu from succumbing to the effects of the time blades with Wu back to normal, he helps them foil the time twins plan. He later aids Kai and Nya in battle the Time Twins but when the villains prepare to finish the two ninja off, Wu sacrifices himself to save them. Though happy at their victory, Nya couldn't help but be worried when her master is lost in time with their enemies. She and the others sought to find her master no matter what.
During Season 8, she was unknowingly reunited with her master when he came back as a baby. She was told by the others of this but didn't believe the infant could be him, even after hearing the stunts he did until she heard the baby talk and show some of Wu's habits causing her to acknowledge it really was Wu. She was the ninja who came up with a theory for his transformation and she was happy to have him back.
As of the Season 8 finale, Nya was under the impression that her master was dead being unaware he was in another realm.

After she became the water spirit and announcing her, Wu pleaded to her to reconsider but was forced to watch her become part of the Endless Sea. He held a memorial for her, where he spoke in honor of his pupil and stated her memory will live on.
Friends
Friends[]
Cole (former love interest)[]
Nya and Cole in Season 3
Nya and Cole are good friends but in Season 3, she discovers from a machine that Cole is her perfect match. Following this revelation, she grew awkward around him though developed an attraction to his kind nature which soon initiates a rivalry between Jay and Cole who compete for her affections.
In Season 4, Nya is still unsure of who to pick between Cole and Jay. However, she was happy that they put their differences aside and became friends again.
During Season 5, she comforts Cole when he becomes a ghost and helps him gain some encouragement from his new circumstances.[1] It's worth noting that Cole and Nya's friendship did not make Nya immune to criticism in Cole's eyes, as Cole became harsh with her for a moment after Ronin stole the Sword of Sanctuary.[2]
In Season 6, Nya chose Jay over Cole who accepted this with a smile but this doesn't cause a rift between them as they remain good friends. When Cole returned to being human, Nya was happy to see him back to normal and hugged him with the other ninja.
Nya and Cole in Season 11
As of the Season 8 finale, Nya is under the impression that her friend is dead and unaware he is in another realm.
In "Firstbourne," Nya is sad at losing her friend and wants to honor his memory by continuing to fight. However, she learns that he was instead teleported to somewhere after she and the others find a piece of a leaf for Traveler's Tea.
In "Green Destiny," Nya is reunited with her friend and quickly contacts him to tell him and they fight off the sons of Garmadon with his aid.
During "The Fall," when learning Cole fell in the darkness, Nya was horrified and along with the others broke down, due to being indirectly responsible.
After she became the water spirit and announced her leaving, Cole was shocked to watch her leave. He comforted Jay over Nya before they went to Nya's memorial, being sad about the loss of his comrade.
Zane[]
Nya and Zane
Nya and Zane get along very well since they are the smartest of the ninja and they are friends throughout the first three seasons.
In Season 4, Nya is shown to be sad about Zane's apparent death but when searching for the other ninja she discovered that he was still alive after she detected Zane's beacon, which greatly surprised her but also gave her a clue as to where the others were located. When the Elemental Masters break out and save her and Garmadon, Nya immediately runs to hug the newly rebuilt Zane relieved and happy that he was back. They fought off Chen's army together and celebrated their victory.
In Season 6, Nya was worried when Zane disappeared because of Nadakhan and feared the worst. After Nya was struck by Tiger Widow venom and succumbed to the poison, Zane was sad at her death but fortunately, these events were undone due to Jay's last wish.
In Season 7, when Zane is attacked by Time Twins, she works very hard to restore him after he is unconscious for a while. Nya was successful in awakening Zane and was relieved to have him back in action.
As of the Season 8 finale, Nya is under the impression that her friend is dead and unaware he is in another realm.
In "Firstbourne," Nya is still sad at losing her friend and wants to honor his memory by continuing to fight. However, she learns that he was instead teleported to somewhere after she and the other find a piece of a leaf for Traveler's Tea.
In "Green Destiny," Nya is reunited with her friend and quickly contacts him to tell him she sees him and they fight off the sons of Garmadon with his aid.
During "Awakenings," she realizes Zane was the Ice Emperor. However, she knew it wasn’t of his own choice because of his usage of the Scrolls of Forbidden Spinjitzu and wanted to save him. Likewise, Zane finally remembers her and a happy moment of them together. He then snaps out of his delirium enough to help his friends.
After she became the water spirit and announced her leaving, Zane was shocked by her choice until he watched her become part of the sea. He honored Nya at her memorial, while sadden by the loss of his friend.
Lloyd[]
Nya and Lloyd
Lloyd and Nya are good friends, though they never used to interact much in the series. They do interact with each other very often in the newer seasons, they are extremely close and are like siblings to each other. The relationship between Lloyd and Nya is like the relationship between a normal brother and sister, hence why people often say they are sibling figures to each other.
Nya and Lloyd do show that they care about each other. In Season 4, when Chen's army was about to invade Ninjago, Lloyd volunteered to go alone and Nya expressed worry for him to take on such a large task by himself.
In Season 5, she wanted to help save Lloyd when he was possessed by Morro and was relieved to see him released from the evil ghost ninja. In return, Lloyd was happy with the new addition to the team and congratulated Nya for unlocking her True Potential and defeating the Preeminent (although it led to his father's demise).
In Season 8: Sons of Garmadon, she is still a good friend to him and even offers him advice on approaching Harumi after the others give bad advice. She also gave him some of her power for him to recover after his fight with his resurrected father.
As of the Season 8 finale, Nya and Lloyd are the only remaining ninja left and are under the impression that their friends are dead and unaware they are in another realm.
During Season 9, she takes to training him and providing motivational support when he is down at the loss of his powers.
Nya continues to fight by Lloyd's side even after most of their allies were captured. When she was hurt by Ultra Violet, Lloyd and Dareth came to her aid later happy to see Lloyd has defeated his father and regained his powers in the process. This is the season where they interact the most and seem to form a closer bond.
After she became the water spirit and announced her leaving, Lloyd was sad to watch her go and become part of the sea. He attended her memorial, to honor his fallen friend. He also seems to be more affected by the loss of Nya, as we can see in "Farewell the Sea", he leaves the team and becomes a window washer. Fortunately, Lloyd has decided to come back knowing Nya would want him to.
P.I.X.A.L.[]
P.I.X.A.L. and Nya
Nya and P.I.X.A.L. are good friend and teammate. From their first meeting the two girls get along well and Nya was amused by Zane and P.I.X.A.L.'s growing romance, though she was worried when the latter revealed she and Cole were a better match.
Nya was unaware that P.I.X.A.L. created a new body for herself and took on her former alter-ego as Samurai X, she was firstly angry with this person who stole her suit but then she supported the mysterious person's endeavors when she understood she was legitimate to be the new Samurai X.
In "Dead Man's Squall," P.I.X.A.L. revealed her status as Samurai X as Nya was surprised at this. While being controlled, she fought the ninja, winning the battle and destroying one of the Bounty's engines. After regaining control, P.I.X.A.L. joined the team as Samurai X and promised to devote herself to the work of protecting Ninjago alongside them. Nya completely accepted P.I.X.A.L was the new Samurai X as she said in "The Quiet One", "It's okay, P.I.X.A.L.. It's yours now" after she brought back the Samurai Mech to the bounty and P.I.X.A.L. said "My suit. I mean, your suit". Nya couldn't think of a more worthy person to carry on the Samurai X role now that she is a ninja.[3]
During Season 9, P.I.X.A.L. remains an ally to Nya and the others, after Wu and the others are teleported somewhere. Nya sees her as a good friend since they both had felt left out in helping the ninja. She was worried when P.I.X.A.L. got captured by the Sons of Garmadon but relieved after the latter broke free in "Green Destiny" and helped in defeating the Colossus.
After Garmadon was defeated, the city held a party to celebrate the ninja, and Nya invited P.I.X.A.L. to be cheered too, due to her major help in saving the city.
When P.I.X.A.L. had a nightmare after Zane banishment to the Nether-Space, the ninja rushed to her room to see if she was okay. Nya asked P.I.X.A.L. how she was and comforted her.
After Nya was merged with the Endless Sea, P.I.X.A.L. was at Nya's memorial, pouring water into the vase alongside the ninjas to pay homage to Nya.
In Season 15 when the ninja tried to bring back Nya, P.I.X.A.L. helped them and was glad to see her friends back in "A Painful Promise".
Then she supports Nya in her project to put on the mantle of Samurai X by helping her in the building of the new Samurai X Mech.
When P.I.X.A.L. came back to the monastery with Zane in "Their Draconic Majesty's Request" after she was missing for years since the Merge, Nya's reaction to seeing her friend was shock and joy. She jumped into P.I.X.A.L. arms to hug her. P.I.X.A.L. was also very happy to see her friend again although she didn't feel time passing when she was in her Techno-cocoons.
Arin[]
Nya and Arin
Arin is Lloyd's student as well as a fan. Through their first time meeting each other, Nya attacked him and the others upon seeing them aid the Earth Dragons, until it was settled. She was astounded at how Arin learnt Spinjitzu, all by himself.
In "Shattered Dreams", when Arin blamed himself for being unable to stop Cinder, Nya comforted him and told him not to put too much pressure on himself, that he, Sora and Riyu were caught off guard, and that the next time Cinder attacks, the Ninja would have their back.
At the end of Dragons Rising Season 2, Nya was shocked when Arin betrayed her and the other ninja to save Ras from the Forbidden Five and held both her hands, speechless and visibly worried when he left through a portal gate.
Sora[]
- “Me and Sora.”
- “Yeah! Me and Nya. And Riyu. We're a team.”
| — Nya and Sora to Lloyd, "Gangs of the Sea"
|
Nya and Sora
Sora is one of Lloyd's students. Through their first time meeting each other, Nya attacked her and the others upon seeing them aid the Earth Dragons, until it was settled. Seeing Sora's Power of Technology, as well as her moxie, Nya admitted her likeness for her.
The two girls quickly became close friends, Nya probably being happy to have another ninja girl by her side in the team. When it came to making groups for the Dragon Cores quest Nya immediately offered to team up with Sora who gladly accepted. Like most classic ninja, Nya played a mentoring role for Sora. One example is in "Land of Lost Things," where she encourages Sora to believe in her elemental powers, reminding her not to doubt herself.
They also showed girlpower support in their relationship, for exemple when Sora as well as Wyldfyre, hugged Nya in "The Vault of Focus" after she was disappointed in Jay's behavior, while she hoped that there was still goodness in him.
She was surprised and confused when, after the defeat of Thunderfang, Sora elected to break away from the Ninja and instead join Ras and Arin in their quest to undo the Merge. Although she was worried about allowing her two friends to depart with their foe, Nya voiced no objection when Lloyd declared that allowing the youngsters to make their own choice was what made the Ninja different from Ras.
Wyldfyre[]
- “Kai would be honored you're trying to take up the mantle of the Red Ninja, Wyldfyre.”
- “He should be.”
| — Nya and Wyldfyre, "Enter the City of Temples" |
Nya and Wyldfyre
Wyldfyre is Kai's student. Nya appears to care for Wyldfyre as she was disappointed to see the latter stowed away, despite having a broken leg. When Kai was sent to the Nether-Space, Nya comforted Wyldfyre, but expresses worry upon seeing the latter trying to honor him by becoming the new Red Ninja from being overconfident. Nya also often help retrain Wyldfyre of her anger and Wyldfyre in return show care for Nya, notably when she was worries about Nya when her boyfriend Jay was corrupted by Shatterspin, or when she assiduously supported Nya and showed strong animosity towards her opponent, in Nya's duel with Nokt in the Tournament of the Sources while the latter tried to destabilize her by evoking Kai and Jay; as well as when Wyldfyre and Sora, hugged Nya in "The Vault of Focus" after she was disappointed in Jay's behavior, while she hoped that there was still goodness in him.
Dareth[]
Nya and Dareth
She and Dareth get along well, though she is put off by his tendency to showoff.
In Season 4, he accidentally travels with her to Chen's Island, much to her annoyance. However, Dareth proved himself helpful as his talent in the art of disguise aided Nya in infiltrating Chen's palace. Nya was amazed by his acts and most likely grateful to him for his help as she was able to find her friends and learn of Chen's plans. They later took part in fighting off Chen's army in the corridor of elders.
In later seasons, Dareth continues to help Nya and the others, such as providing them shelter from the resurrected Garmadon and helping her in the The Resistance. While she sees Dareth as a good friend, she is still annoyed by his antics but sees he's trying to help and cuts him slack.
After Garmadon was defeated, Nya invited Dareth to be cheered on too, due to his major help in saving the city. This showed she respects him in spite of his faults.
After Nya was merged with the Endless Sea, he was a guest at Nya's memorial.
Ronin[]
Nya and Ronin
In Season 5: Possession, Nya met Ronin when her friends accidentally gave him a share of their tea shop. Ronin didn't mind telling Nya he was in debt to the Soul Archer and helped Nya with her training by giving her advice of not caring too much, which somewhat help. When Morro and the other ghosts force Ronin to steal the Sword of Sanctuary, she impedes him, forcing him to fight her since he needed to repay his debts to the ghosts.
During the fight, she sees a future of him kissing her, which causes her to kick him in the leg in disgust as he questioned it but she replies he knows what he was going to do before he takes the sword from her. She is disappointed when he hands it over to Morro but is relieved when he helps them fight the Preeminent.
She still gets along with Ronin and may see him as a friend, though is still put off by his thievery.
After Nya was merged with the Endless Sea, he was a guest at Nya's memorial.
The Resistance[]
Nya and the Resistance.
Nya was already acquainted with the Elemental masters from the time they helped stop Chen's forces. In Season 9, she was happy to see them again after they saved her group from the Sons of Garmadon. She was quick to ally with them in fighting Garmadon's forces and got along with them very well. During the ambush, Nya had to save Lloyd and state the masters weren't her concern, though its clear that she was worried for them as she was devastated to hear they were captured.
During "The Weakest Link," Nya was still worried for them and wanted to trade the captured Harumi for them but was told it wouldn't be possible.
In "Green Destiny," Nya is reunited with them after they break out to help her and the ninja defeat the Colossus.
Okino[]
Nya and the ninja comfort Okino.
Nya and the ninja meet him in Prime Empire.
After many of Okino's disappointments, the ninja were finally masters, whom he led to the Red Dragon. Thanks to the ninja, he learned that Prime Empire was just a video game, that he couldn't believe. The ninja considered him their friend, and so did he, as he refused to obey Unagami and betray the ninja.
After helping them, Nya wished him luck on whatever future choice he had and Okino abandons his task as a guide and becomes a ronin.
It appears they remained friends as Okino was present at Nya's memorial.
Benthomaar[]
Nya showing Benthomaar around the Monastery.
After Benthomaar saved Nya and her friends, she was a bit confused at first as to why he saved them. After proven to be a valuable ally, she introduced him to her friends and allowed him to be part of their team.
Nya and Benthomaar seem to get along very well. They are also supportive of each other as shown in "Tale of Benthomaar," when Nya comforts Benthomaar over the loss of his adopted father and Kalmaar's betrayal. In "The Storm Amulet," Benthomaar encourages Nya to call the whales using her elemental powers.
In "Master of the Sea," Benthomaar defends Nya from Kalmaar's attack, and later, Nya offers him a chance to stay with her and her friends at the monastery.

Enemies
Enemies[]
Cryptor[]
Cryptor is one of Nya's enemies.
Cryptor enjoys flirting with her to get her riled up, calling it dates while she is disgusted by him.
Nya fought against Cryptor in "The Titanium Ninja." They fought until Nya tricked him into angering Min-Droid and soon watched as he was destroyed.
Chen[]
Chen is one of Nya's enemies.
She infiltrated his base by disguising as kabuki and secretly passed on the word to her friend of Chen placing a spy in the group. She soon blew her cover and Chen had his followers pursue her since she stole the spell he needed to transform into Anacondrai. She was captured and refused to serve Chen, as she believed her brother did but was happy to learn it was really a ruse. In the end, she helped her friends fight off Chen and took part in the Second Serpentine War and was pleased Chen was banished.
In Season 5, Nya was ultimately responsible for killing him by drowning The Preeminent and sending him to the Departed Realm.
In "Day of the Departed," Chen was summoned by Yang and eagerly went after Kai and Nya as his targets, stating he had a personal vendetta against her and her brother was a bonus. When confronting them, Nya was shocked to see him again while Chen was excited at the thought of revenge. In spite of his relentless attacks, she along with her brother ensured Chen was defeated again and sent back to the Departed Realm.
Nadakhan[]
Nadakhan was an adversary of Nya.
He framed her and the other ninja for crimes, he committed and sent them to Kryptarium Prison. He gained a vendetta against her when learning of the destruction of his world, which occurred because of her victory over The Preeminent and destroyed the Cursed Realm (the twin realm of his).
Nya was captured by him and forced to marry him, allowing the Djinn to gain infinite wishes for himself and had the soul of Delara possess Nya.
However, Nya dies after taking a shot of the tiger spider venom that passed through her and hit Nadakhan. Since Jay used his last wish that the weakened Nadakhan granted, Nya was spared this fate but still recalls the Djinn.
Dogshank[]
- “You freed me?”
- “We fight like girls, not like cheaters.”

Nya and Dogshank
Dogshank was one of Nya's rivals.
They first meet on Tiger Widow Island, where the pirate confronted Nya in combat. When Nya was trapped in one of the Tiger Widow's webs, she expected her foe to finish her but was surprised she freed her opponent, proclaiming her sense of honor in combat. Nya gained mild respect for her, before continuing their fight. When Nadakhan commanded his subordinates to get the Tiger Widow's venom, Dogshank ended the fight, promising to have a rematch. Nya stated she won't play nice next time. Dogshank returned the sentiment, voicing she would look forward to their playdate.
When they met again, Dogshank captured her on Nadakhan's orders and attempted to drag Nya back to her captain. However, Nya yanked her hair out, she retaliated in anger over the underhanded tactic, with Nya reiterating she wasn't playing nice. The two briefly fought and Dogshank ended up being knocked into a portal the spilled Traveler's Tea.
Time Twins[]
Nya holds extreme hatred for them since they were largely responsible for her and Kai's parents' disappearance. Nya hadn't known of this until she and the other ninja fought Acronix. Nya would be informed of the hint from Kai of their parents being traitors, though didn't believe it.
Nya later discovered Krux was masquerading as Dr. Saunders and was shocked by this.
Nya later learned they forced her parents into servitude under threat of harming her and Kai when they were young. Nya's dislike for them boiled especially since the Time Twins forced her and Kai to serve them by threatening her parents and a rapidly aging Wu. Nya followed the Twins to the past and disrupted their plans, saving Ninjago from their influence.
In the final battle, Nya joined her brother and master in fighting them. Nya and Kai overpowered Krux before Acronix stepped in to defend his brother, nearly defeating the ninja until Wu sacrificed himself and sent the ninja back to the present while he stays behind to defeat the enemy.
Harumi (formerly)[]
Nya and Harumi
Nya met Harumi when she and the others were assigned to protect the Royal Family of Ninjago. For unknown reasons, Nya wasn't particularly impressed with them, but she was respectful to Harumi in their first meeting. When Harumi referred to her simply as the girl of the team, Nya was obviously annoyed but that soon changed when Harumi voiced her admiration for her and stated she wanted to be like her ever since Nya became a proud warrior and master. Flattered, Nya smiled and stated she liked Harumi. When Harumi joined the team, she got along with the Water Ninja, sympathizing with being left out of the action.
Nya and Harumi at the Bounty watching
Once Harumi was revealed to be the Quiet One, any lingering friendship or respect Nya had for her was gone, as she stated that she hated her for lying to her.
During "The Weakest Link," Nya joined her friends in capturing Harumi and took pleasure in gagging her in revenge for her lies.
During "The Fall of the Monastery", Nya discovered that Harumi was alive as well that she was the leader of the Council of the Crystal King.
She displayed visible shock over this revelation and seemed rather tense while explaining to the ninja about Harumi's return after her supposed demise.
However as of "Roots" It Is unknown if she and Harumi repaired their friendship after Harumi discovered that the Overlord was the one who corrupted the Great Devourer as well she discovered that the ninja were never the ones to blame.
The Mechanic[]
Kalmaar[]
- “It's her! The girl!”
- “My name isn't "girl". It's Nya. And you're going to wish you never crossed me!”
| — Kalmaar and Nya, "Nyad" |
Kalmaar and Nya
Kaalmar is Nya's "arch-enemy".
Out of all of the Ninja, Nya is the one Kalmaar despises the most. When Kalmaar first met Nya, he instantly despised her due to her being human, but briefly became intrigued upon discovering that she's an Elemental Master of Water. However, after he captured her, he became offended whenever she kept calling him "Calamari" and threatened her with death when she refused to give him the location of the Island of the Keepers. Nya is also the only Ninja he referred to by name.
After Kalmaar awakened Wojira and sought out destruction on Ninjago City, Nya ultimately merged with the Endless Sea to defeat him. During their final battle, Kalmaar "destroys" Nya with his trident, and after he is later devoured by Wojira, he dies still believing that he successfully killed Nya.
Wojira[]
Nya, as a water dragon, fighting Wojira.
After Kalmaar successfully awakens Wojira, she lands destruction and immense flooding on the entire city. Ultimately, Nya was left with no other choice but to merge with the Endless Sea in the hopes of defeating the giant sea serpent. After Kalmaar was devoured by Wojira, Nya transformed into a water dragon and attacks her multiple times to protect her friends from Wojira's wrath. Despite Wojira seemingly turning out to be too strong for her with her powers, she was defeated after Nya manages to destroy the Wave Amulet from her head, presumably killing the sea serpent.[4]
Ras (temporary ally)[]
Nya had encountered Ras during the Battle of the Second Monastery.
After Ras resurfaced and had Cinder steal the Mallet of Shattering, Nya figured that Ras probably wants to use it for something terrible. Due to Ras' plan to freeing the Forbidden Five, He ultimately used Kai as a sacrifice, resulting in Nya losing her brother to the Nether-Space. After Nokt defeated Nya, Ras attempted to sacrifice Nya to the Nether-Space before Sora knocked him down.
Nya confronting Ras.
During the Tournament of the Sources, Nya found out Ras had recruited her boyfriend Jay into the Wolf Clan. After her match, Nya had confronted Ras to handing Jay back to them only for the villainous tiger warrior to state that he found Jay and was the only one who took care of the Ninja of Lightning when he was alone, further increasing her resentment towards him. While Nya was angry, she managed to restrain her anger but found out that she had to delay her search for Jay.
Nokt[]
- “I was expecting the other member of your family.”
- “You think Kai was tough? You’ve never seen me when I’m mad!”
| — Nokt and Nya, "Truth and Lies" |
Nya and Nokt’s battle during the Tournament of the Sources
Nya had fought Nokt during the Ritual of the Blood Moon. While Nya managed to unlock Rising Dragon, she was almost sent to the Nether-Space if Sora didn't intervene.
She later fought Nokt again during the Tournament where Nokt mocked her over her loss of her elder brother and boyfriend.
She and Riyu were captured as they were communicating with Kai using a Dragon Ivory stone by Nokt and Rox. Nya managed to release Kai from Nether-Space thanks to her connection through Dragon Ivory and Riyu's Sparks despite Nokt's desperate attempt to stop her.
