Early life[]
Wu and Garmadon, sons of the First Spinjitzu Master
Wu was born to the First Spinjitzu Master, along with his older brother, Garmadon. He was born with the powers of Creation and Destruction. He took after his father's dragon heritage and went on to inherit Creation as his dominant power.[1]
- Note: These events are listed in no particular order.
One day, when the brothers were very small, the First Spinjitzu Master explained to his sons that one day they would become bearers and teachers of the legacy of Spinjitzu. This fact worried Wu, and from the beginning he took studying and training very seriously because he did not want to disappoint his father.[2]
Wu then began writing a journal, writing down his father's lessons so he could learn from them later. Wu and Garmadon often trained their ninja abilities while their father watched them while he was drinking tea and admonishing them when they did something wrong. Despite their connection, they often fought, although their father told them that the brothers should not fight each other.[2]
The brothers often listened to stories about Ninjago and wanted to be like their father.[2] The First Spinjitzu Master told Wu about the Never-Realm to warn him. He told him of all the realms of Creation, it was the one Wu should never visit. He told him it was a cold and dangerous place and he forbade it. Then the father told him that he went there only once and he could not find his way home. He said it was unlike the other realms and he warned Wu that others would not be as fortunate to return.[3] He also used to tell him an old fairy tale about how he mastered all of the elemental powers, but never Wind or Water, because they belonged to someone else, Wojira. His father also showed him a scroll that was about the Battle of Nine Days. However, due to the scroll not having much information about the battle, Wu was only able to learn about the Merlopians, a race of sea folk that inhabited the Endless Sea long before Ninjago was created.[4] Wu and Garmadon soon learned about the djinns from their father, who described them as a powerful enemy.[5] The First Spinjitzu Master also used to tell them stories about the Overlord around the campfire. Wu grew up afraid of him until he realized that all his father's stories end the same way, the Overlord's defeat.[6] Wu and the First Spinjitzu Master were informed about a catastrophic event that would be called "the Merge", which was said to bring together all the realms with Ninjago. Wu and his father believed that they had the power to prevent its occurrence.[7]
Garmadon's and Wu's first Spinjitzu
Wu and Garmadon trained every day to prepare for their first Spinjitzu. Wu asked their father when he would succeed, and he always told him that Wu would be the first to know. Before dawn, they always stretched their arms, legs, necks, shoulders, backs, eyes, and ears because their father told them it helped relax their minds. Then they always crossed the obstacle course their father had prepared for them. Their father always just drank tea and said "failed", when they didn't make it. Then he and his father practiced Spinjitzu movements. Sometimes Wu wanted to give up, but then he remembered his father's saying, "ninja never quit." The First Spinjitzu Master told the brothers that Spinjitzu movements included rotation and spin. Therefore, he gave them the task of finding examples of rotation in everyday life. The brothers have found that rotation is used, for example, when mixing tea, rotating behind people to talk to them, or rotating clay when making vases on a potter's wheel.[2]
One day, the First Spinjitzu Master sent his sons to Ouroboros to buy tea. After the brothers bought tea and wanted to return home, they were attacked by several bullies who wanted to steal their tea. Without thinking, the brothers applied what they had learned during the training and performed their first Spinjitzu, through which they scattered these bullies across half the city.[2]
At one point in their childhood, Wu and Garmadon were on the same team and often played a game on the playground called Templegate Tigers, in which Garmadon threw the ball and Wu would hit it, and they never lost.[8]
Although the next part comes from a canonical book, this part is different from the events of the show.
When Wu and Garmadon were young, they were searching in their father's library trying to find a cookbook to replace their regular meal of noodles. Garmadon found a book called The Art of Broth, and when he picked it up a scroll fell out. Garmadon picked the scroll up and said that it felt hot. He tried to read it, though Wu did not want to. Their father came in and took it from Garmadon. He told them never to touch the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu and ordered them to leave.
The next day, Garmadon went back to the library to find the scroll. Garmadon stated that he did it because it was "calling" him. Wu did not tell their father, though he followed his brother. Garmadon became frustrated when it was not there, to Wu's relief. Wu wanted to know what secrets it held, though not as much as Garmadon. Eventually, they found and read it, and the young Wu wrote its secrets into his journal. Many years later, a wiser Wu realized that the scroll's secrets should never have been revealed, and placed a seal over them in his journal so that it could not be seen.[2]
Meeting Aspheera[]
Wu befriended Aspheera
Thousands of years before the siege at the Monastery, Wu and his brother went to the lake, but Wu didn't want to swim. He wanted to enter the Serpentine Valley and explore it there. Wu shrugged off his brother's warnings and the latter joined him to make sure he'd stay safe. The two were amazed by the Serpentine's way of life and were about to leave but were caught trespassing and were imprisoned by Mambo V. A guilty Wu was criticized by his brother until a Serpentine named Aspheera told them of how she was training to be a sorceress and offered to free the brothers, in exchange for them helping her in the future and they agreed. Aspheera freed them and told them to keep their promise in due time. Returning home, Wu and his brother found their father creating the Scrolls of Forbidden Spinjitzu. He asked them where they had been for so long and Garmadon lied to him that Wu caught a fish, but it broke the line and they spent the rest of the day trying to re-catch it. The he told them not to tamper with the scrolls and they must go to bed.
Wu defeating Aspheera
Grateful for the help, Wu returned to uphold his end of the deal, he and Aspheera became friends with him teaching her Spinjitzu. However, Garmadon caught him teaching Aspheera and warned him of how she can't be trusted but Wu didn't believe him.
However, Wu discovered that Aspheera's learning of the art enabled her to usurp the previous Serpentine King, Mambo V. Distraught at what he caused, Wu gathered his brother and begged him for his help with Garmadon agreeing. As Wu thought their father would understand,[9] they armed themselves with the Scrolls of Forbidden Spinjitzu to have an edge against her and confronted her. Wu fought Aspheera and achieved victory while his brother similarly defeated her minions. Aspheera was angered Wu betrayed her by not showing her this art and standing against her before she was defeated. Aspheera was subsequently imprisoned after Mambo took back power. Wu visited her in her cell, where he told her that she and the vipers were to be imprisoned in the pyramid. She pleaded to Wu to free her, as she did him and his brother but he and Garmadon ignored her, this made Aspheera mad, and she called Wu "the traitorous deceiver."[10]
When the brothers returned home, their father was angry that they had used the scrolls, and he took them from them and hid them in unknown places. And Wu began to worry that his father would never trust him again. Their father told them they were both a disappointment to him, and the words echoed to Wu's mind all night. Wu then finally decided to become the responsible one and not break the rules.[9][11]
Fishing trip[]
- Note: The placement of Wu and Garmadon's fishing trip with their father is unconfirmed, but is here due to being shown before the Devourer's bite when Wu regained his memories.
On a fishing trip with his family
One day, Wu went on a fishing trip with his brother and father. After both experience anger with not catching a fish, their father tells them to have faith. With this inspiration, Wu was able to get a fish, but Garmadon threw his fishing rod into the lake in anger.[12]
Garmadon's accident[]
Wu's training with Garmadon
At some point, the family moved to the Monastery of Spinjitzu.[9][13] One day, the two brothers were sparring and Wu's katana was accidentally knocked over the wall of the monastery. Despite his father's warnings to stay within the safety of the monastery, Garmadon went to retrieve it because Wu was too scared, and Garmadon took longer than expected to return. Eventually, their father went looking for him, only to find that Garmadon passed out, having been bitten by a snake.
Wu as child when Garmadon was bitten by the Great Devourer
Garmadon was ill for a time, tended to by his father and brother. Garmadon had been bitten by the Great Devourer, infecting his very being with pure evil, though they did not know this, by his father's old arch-enemy the Overlord, which awakened an undying thirst to destroy in Garmadon. As a result, Garmadon momentarily became violent and selfish, blaming Wu for his change.[14] This initial effect was not permanent, but it was a harbinger of things to come.
Shortly after these events, the First Spinjitzu Master told his sons about the prophecy of the Green Ninja. Wu couldn't stop thinking about this prophecy and asked himself whether it was his destiny to become the Green Ninja or just to protect him.[2]
During Wu's training in the monastery, he discovered what damage effects Spinjitzu could do if it is not used properly. As he tried a movement called "Kick of Mantis", he turned his pelvis more than he had and kicked Garmadon so that it flew over the supporting beam and almost the entire roof fell on him. Garmadon then attacked Wu with such anger as Wu had never seen before. In anger, he did not use Spinjitzu properly and almost destroyed the whole monastery. However, his father managed to stop him.[2]
Wu and Garmadon's journey[]
Wu and Garmadon as teenagers
A few years later, when the two brothers were teenagers, the First Spinjitzu Master, who had hardly spoken to them in recent years, gave them a chance to redeem themselves. He called them to his room and told them that he was sending them on a journey to the Northern Ocean, where a special tea plant was growing that could help purify Garmadon of the evil that had inhabited him since the Devourer's bite, and that they would go with the next sunrise. Wu had many questions for his father and asked him exactly where to find the plant and what was so special about it. His father told him that the plant was growing on the shores of the Northern Ocean, and that further answers would not be revealed until they arrived. When Wu went to his room for the night and prepared his backpack for the journey, he couldn't sleep because he had a lot of other questions. He looked forward to the journey of exploring Ninjago, and also to the fact that he would make things right with his father.[15]
Wu lying in his bed
As soon as the sun came up in the morning, Wu jumped out of bed, put on his gi, washed his face in the bowl of water he had on the table and then he ran a comb through his white-blond hair and topped it with the straw hat. Then he took his backpack and the bo staff and went to wake up Garmadon snoring in his bed. He lightly tapped the older brother on his head with the staff, but Garmadon told him he was still sleeping. Wu reminded him they had to leave at sunrise, but Garmadon argued that the father did not say what day and told him to wake him tomorrow. The helpless Wu then took Garmadon's bowl of water and, laughing, poured it over his head to wake him. Garmadon then got out of bed and began packing his backpack, while Wu told him not to forget other clothes if it was cold at night, extra socks, and some tea, even though he had already taken a teapot himself. Garmadon told him he would pack what he wanted, and Wu didn't argue with him because he knew how stubborn his brother was. When he was finally ready, both brothers left the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Wu decided to go to the nearest village.[15]
Wu and Garmadon leaving the monastery
When they arrived to the village, Garmadon came at the noodle cart and wanted to order, but Wu tried to persuade him to continue north. However, when his stomach growled, he finally agreed to eat. At the meal, Wu asked his brother why it was a problem for him to go on this journey. When Garmadon told him it was because their father thought he was a problem, Wu realized it was true, but he didn't say it. Rather, he just told him that his father was angry about stealing the scrolls of Forbidden Spinjitzu.[15]
Meeting Nineko[]
Wu and Garmadon in the dark forest
During the following days, they traveled across fields, climbed hills, and crossed rivers, and on the fourth day they reached a dark forest with heavy fog. Wu suggested they walk around but Garmadon thought it would take too long and they both head off into the forest. Soon, Wu complained that he couldn't see but Garmadon told him to just keep walking straight and there seemed to be a light ahead. Wu replied the lights looked like eyes and Garmadon retorted that it was probably his imagination. But before he could finish, a beast with glowing eyes and lots of sharp teeth leaped at them.[15] Wu dove to the left while Garmadon to the right and both of them somersaulted when they hit the ground. Both boys them rolled away to aviod the monster's reach. Although they did not know what kind of beast it was, they decided to use Spinjitzu to stop it. However, the monster struck both tornadoes using its paws and both boys crashed into trees.[16]
Wu fighting the monster using Spinjitzu
When Wu could smell the stinky breath from the monster's mouth, he complained joking that the monster might have eaten dirty socks because it was what its breath smelled like, but he then had to jump. Wu then got the idea to stop the beast so that they would work together and attack from the front. When Garmadon agreed, they both began to spin, approaching the monster only by the sounds, as they could not see it in the fog. However, Wu's plan did not work and they crashed into the belly of the beast. The monster then grabbed one brother in each paw and slammed them into the dirt. As Garmadon tried to free himself, Wu's hands were trapped under his body and he could not move. Once the creature had eaten them, something disturbed it. Wu turned his head and noticed a woman, hoping she was the monster's enemy and not the friend. The woman struck the monster with her umbrella and freed the brothers. Wu suddenly realized that the woman had two cat ears on her head, and immediately afterwards he was even more surprised when she used Spinjitzu to defeat the monster. Her tornado created a strong wind that blew Wu and Garmadon back into the tries. When the frightened beast escaped, Wu thanked the woman for the rescue and asked her who she was, but she escaped into the trees.[16]
Wu and Garmadon camping
When the cat lady escaped, Wu was astonished by the way she dealt with the beast. Although Garmadon suggested they should follow her to find out where she learned Spinjitzu, Wu preferred to leave the forest before the monster returned. Garmadon finally agreed, and after an hour they managed to leave the forest. They went out into the field with a creek running through it. As it was getting dark, Wu suggested they camp for the night. Although Garmadon disagreed at first as it was still daylight, Wu eventually convinced him by reminding him that their journey would be long and that they should rest after a fight with the monster. Garmadon wanted his brother to make a fire since he was so excited to camp out, but Wu remarked that they should work together. They then picked up some dry wood and Wu using a fire-starting stone, which he had in his backpack, made a fire. When the camp was ready, the brothers began talking about the cat lady. It seemed strange to Wu that his father would never tell them that he was training a cat. When Garmadon suggested that they try to find her down because he was curious, Wu smiled and reminded him of an old saying "curiosity killed the cat" and that they should let her go her own way. When Garmadon nodded, Wu told him he was feline hungry and would like some of the rice cakes and persimmons they had picked up from the tree. Garmadon agreed on the condition that he wouldn't serve up another cat pun, which Wu teased him with another pun stating that he was just kitten around. When they finished the food, Wu suggested that they take lookout shifts so that no other monsters would surprise them. Garmadon agreed, but called a second shift.[17]
The brothers looking at the mountain
After a night when they both took turns guarding, they ate some breakfast, bathed in the creek and put out the fire. As they tried to continue their journey, Wu stopped his brother and asked him if they needed a plan for where to go, as there was a high mountain in front of them. While Wu suggested that they find a village and find the best way possible, Garmadon persuaded him to go around the mountain, hoping to find a village there.[17]
Unfortunately, they did not find the village and had to go through other fields, a forest and a swamp area. Then they came across the mountain foothills, after which they started jumping on the other side. Suddenly they heard cry and a dozen warriors ran up to them. Positive thinking Wu greeted them and introduced himself and his brother, but then realized they were attacking them. Garmadon therefore suggested that each brother take six and defeat them. Wu used his staff to repel the attackers. When two more pounced on him, he jumped so high that the warriors bumped into each other, which worked. The fifth warrior swung his kusarigama at him, but Wu caught it with the staff and threw the warrior away. The last warrior wanted to take his staff, but Wu repulsed him and tried to explain that they were not their enemies. At that time, however, a second wave of fighters appeared. Since they could no longer defeat the attackers, Wu shouted at his brother to run. They both ran away from the warriors, but they ran too fast so they didn't notice the deep ravine into which they had fallen.[17]
Wu fighting the warriors
As Wu fell into the ravine, he managed to catch one of the rocks protruding from the ravine wall and remained hanging there, as did his brother just below him. Wu immediately asked Garmadon if he was okay, and after a positive answer, he asked him how to get out, as the wall was too steep. Wu suggested they could climb down, but the ravine was too deep. Suddenly they heard a woman's voice over them, and when the cat lady handed them her umbrella to catch, Garmadon did it first. Then Wu took a deep breath, let go, jumped up, grabbed onto the umbrella, swung up, somersaulted in the air and slammed right into his brother. Garmadon was angry with Wu for this and Wu began to shout at him that he should not stand in his way and they quarreled. When the cat lady started laughing, they asked her what was going on. She told them that she thought they were Spinjitzu masters and not just two very silly boys. Although Garmadon tried to explain everything to her, Wu stopped him and thanked her for the double rescue. Then he introduced them both. A woman, revealing her name, Nineko, also introduced herself. Although she wanted to leave, Garmadon tried to persuade her to teach them. She then revealed to them that she had been taught by the First Spinjitzu Master, which shocked Wu, as his father never told them he was training a cat. Nineko then gave them a choice if they wanted to go with her, and although Wu had doubts, curiosity overcame him.[18]
Training with Nineko[]
Wu and Garmadon with Nineko
After a short trip back to the swampy area, they cut through a small forest and then sailed on a small boat to the house belonging to Nineko.[18]
When they were inside, Wu had a lot of questions for Nineko and asked her how she met their father. When she told them that she was learning Spinjitzu from him until she left and created a new martial art, Catjitzu. She told them she would teach them if they did her a favor in return. When Wu asked what kind of favor it was, she explained that she needed a Cat-Eye Jewel that had been stolen from her, but she couldn't get to it because of magic. So she wanted to train them to take it for her. Although Wu wanted to continue on their original journey, Garmadon reminded him of his father's phrase that "the experiences you have on a journey are often more important than the destination." Wu finally considered it, and since he wanted to learn Catjitzu himself, he finally agreed with his brother.[18]
Wu and Garmadon watching Nineko
When Nineko told her brothers that she had to take a nap, Wu urged her to tell them more about their father and the Cat-Eye Jewel, but Nineko just told them to leave her house, which they did. Although Garmadon did not understand why she had to take a nap, Wu reminded him that there was a catnap and that the cats were active at night. Although Garmadon was suspicious of her, Wu told him she had saved them twice, and then the two boys were silent. Wu prepared fo the training session with some warm-ups, as he would do at home. Then they ate some of the food they had brought until the moon finally appeared. Suddenly, Nineko jumped down behind them, and the brothers demanded that she teach them something like that. Nineko then ordered them to climb the ladder to her house, which they did, and then pointed to a thick green twisted vine that extended from the deck to a tree in the distance. Garmadon wanted to try it first, but as he walked through the vine, he fell, holding only one hand. Wu immediately went to his aid and walked across the vine to his brother, but he slipped, crashed into Garmadon, and they both fell into the mud. When Garmadon was angry with him, Wu told him he just wanted to help. Nineko then told the younger brother that he should try harder and use his staff to keep his balance. Both brothers climbed on the vine again, and after further unsuccessful attempts, Garmadon finally succeeded. Wu, who concentrated as hard as he could not to disappoint, did it too.[19]
Wu after bumping into the tree
Another part of the training was jumping using Spinjitzu. Wu offered to go first this time. He immediately jumped up and used Spinjitzu, but lost control and bumped into a large tree. When Nineko told them she was taking a nap again, the two brothers, exhausted and covered in mud, unrolled their mats on the deck of her tree house and slept. In the morning, they washed their clothes and continued training. After an unsuccessful attempt to jump as high as Nineko with a tornado, the boys tried to get more information from her. For several days, Nineko did not answer their questions about their father and her training until she told them one day that their father had caught her stealing, but instead of punishing her, he started training her.[19]
Wu walking on the vine
In the following days, they trained again and always went to bed dirty. Wu was still trying to get information from Nineko and asked Garmadon how he should do it. When he asked her questions again, she told him she would tell them her story when they mastered to use Catjitzu.[19]
The brothers leaving Nineko's house
After the next few days of training, the two brothers finally completed all the tasks they had been given before and mastered Catjitzu. Wu immediately asked Nineko to tell them everything. She agreed, and explained to them that she had left because their father still thought she was just an ordinary thief. When she left for the house without a word, Garmadon sarcastically praised Wu, for which the younger brother was angry and asked him how he knew it was painful for her to talk about it. Garmadon told him he was too curious for his own good sometimes. Nineko then told them it was time to fulfill what they had promised and told them that they had to use their skills to climb the high mountain where the Cat-Eye Jewel was located. Then she returned to the house. Wu began to think about her, and although he tried to think that she had fulfilled her part of the deal and they should, he remembered that it was the same with Aspheera. However, in the end, he decided to keep the promise.[19]
Mission of the Cat-Eye Jewel[]
Meeting Dillon
Both brothers climbed into the boat and crossed the lake. When they anchored on the shore, Wu heard rustling in a clump of reeds. He motioned for Garmadon to jump in, and they did. They landed directly on one of the warriors they had met before. Wu pinned him to the ground with his staff. When they forced him to talk, the warrior told them that he had been watching them for several days and explained that he was not the enemy, but Nineko.[19] The brothers gasped. Garmadon then went to look around to check if the warrior was alone, while Wu kept him on the ground with the staff pressed firmly on his chest. After Garmadon returned, the warrior offered to tell them the truth. Wu slowly removed the staff and let the warrior stand up. He then introduced himself, revealing his name to them, Dillon, and then told them he was a member of the Order of Felis, who guarded the Cat-Eye Jewel. He also explained to them that the Jewel could give each cat nine lives, which Wu couldn't believe arguing that he thought it was just a tale. After Dillon's next story, Wu began to doubt Nineko and that she had told them the truth before. When Dillon offered to take them to the Temple of Felis, where their leader would give them proof, Garmadon didn't want to hear about it, but Wu wasn't sure. He finally decided and replied to Dillon to go to the temple with him, though Garmadon did not agree. The brothers stared at each other fiercely. Garmadon finally decided to return to Nineko alone and was about to leave. Wu asked him if he was sure after everything they'd heard about her, but his older brother was adamant. As he boarded the boat and sailed away, Wu wondered if he would ever see him again.[20] Although Wu considered jumping into Garmadon's boat for a moment, he finally decided not to do it and let Garmadon find it out for himself. He was sure that as soon as his brother found out that Nineko was evil, he would return. Then he and Dillon left the mountain and entered the forest.[21]
Wu's first meeting with Komala
After a short hike they got out of the woods to a clearing with a temple in the center. When Wu saw the tall tower, he was amazed at the way it was built. As they got closer, Wu saw hundreds of cats all around the temple. When they were at the tower, Wu asked Dillon what smelled there, what the warrior told him it was a cat toilet. Then they both jumped to the first floor, where Dillon showed Wu the training room. Suddenly a woman came to them and asked where the second ninja was. Dillon introduced Wu to her and revealed her name, Adara. He then told her that Garmadon had returned to Nineko. Adara then mentioned that they had to prepare for the attack, as she saw Nineko using some strange magic, perhaps summoning the monsters again. Wu then remembered the monster they had encountered in the forest and described it to the others, which convinced him that the beast had been summoned by Nineko. Dillon and Wu then climbed to the next floor, where the warrior introduced Wu to their leader, Komala. The old woman motioned for Wu to sit down and then showed him in the fire her story of how Nineko destroyed her village, and Komala then studied good magic to protect the Cat-Eye Jewel. After the story, Dillon announced that they should go to the mountain and wait there for Nineko and Garmadon, which Komala agreed to.[21]
Wu with Dillon, Adara, and the other warriors
Wu and Dillon then climbed down the temple and hurried toward the mountain. When they reached it, they saw three lines of guardians there. Adara then came and told them that one scout had seen Nineko and Garmadon coming. Wu, who underestimated the possible risks, tried to calm them down and told them that Nineko and Garmadon were only two against many warriors. Then he revealed to them his plan to get to Garmadon when they came and tell him the truth.[21]
A few moments later, Nineko and Garmadon appeared along with the green mist. Wu shouted at his brother that Nineko was a sorceress, but then he realized that Garmadon's eyes were green. Dillon made it clear that Nineko controlled him using magic. Wu then shouted at the cat ninja to release his brother and give up, as there were only two. Nineko found him right and then spread her umbrella. Big green drops raining from the sky turned into rain cats, which Dillon called the legendary Warriors of Felis.[21] Wu asked Dillon if Nineko wanted to use them to get the Cat-Eye Jewel, but he explained that even rain cats would not overcome protective spells and only wanted to use them to distract attention until Garmadon stole the Jewel.[22]
Wu using Spinjitzu to fight the Warriors of Felis
Wu knew he had to reach Garmadon and save him from Nineko's sorcery somehow. He then used Spinjitzu and hit the rain cats with a tornado, expecting them to burst into water droplets, but they stayed solid. Wu then asked how they could be defeated, but no one answered. He knocked a few of them aside, but more began to circle him at high speed. Wu tried to repel them with a tornado, but there were too many of them. Wu then forced himself to think about how to defeat the rain cats until he heard that Nineko had instructed Garmadon to bring her the Jewel. Wu began to spin again, but this time he used Catjitzu and jumped above the circle of cats, thinking that at least something good came out of Nineko. He landed in front of Garmadon and tried to explain to him that he was under some kind of spell, but his brother did not listen to him. Wu grabbed him by the shoulders and shook him, but Garmadon picked him up and flipped him backward. Then he ran toward the mountain, and Wu followed him. He thought he was the only one who could stop Garmadon, and he kept running. As he ran, he noticed the narrow wedges of rock sticking out of it and decided to use Catjitzu to climb to the top, just like his brother. Garmadon climbed the mountain first, and the two warriors guarding the Jewel turned their spears on him. Wu shouted at them so they wouldn't hurt Garmadon, thinking about what to do. The older brother, meanwhile, managed to defeat the guards and run to the Jewel, and Wu followed. They both reached the Jewel at once and reached for it. The brothers grappled for control it, but Wu felt the rocks underneath his feet crumble. Garmadon grabbed for the Jewel and both boys fell from the peak. Wu knew that the only way to land was to use Catjitzu, so he spun while shouting at his brother to do the same. Garmadon obeyed him and they both reached the ground. They immediately started fighting for the Jewel again, until the tangle of brothers broke up and they both somersaulted in different directions, while Wu held the Jewel in his hands. Dillon then told Wu to take the stone back while he and Adara took care of Garmadon.[22]
Wu trying to stop Garmadon and Nineko
Wu immediately ran to the mountain, but Nineko jumped in front of him and told him that if he gave her the Jewel, she would remove the magical hold she had on Garmadon. Wu told her he didn't trust her, and she ran to him. Wu backflipped to get away and then turned and ran. He went to the edge of the ravine and skidded to a stop. Nineko came to him and demanded the Jewel, but then Garmadon appeared, who wanted the same thing. He immediately tackled Wu and the two boys nearly tumbled into the ravine again. Wu begged his brother to stop, but he didn't listen. He kicked Wu in the knees and the Jewel fell out of his hands. Nineko picked him up, but Garmadon wanted to take him. Wu laughed and told her she probably wasn't very good at casting spells. Garmadon then tackled Nineko and the Jewel fell out of her hands so Wu could pick it up. Nineko then tried to steal it from him, but she slipped and fell into the ravine. Although Wu was in a hurry to help her, he didn't make it.[22]
Wu and Garmadon after Nineko's defeat
Wu gasped and raced away from the ravine, but Garmadon followed him. The rain cats have so far surrounded Wu on the other side. Wu clutched the Jewel to his chest and tried to persuade Garmadon to stop trying. But Garmadon was still under the spell and the rain cats pounced. Wu then spun, thinking he would at least die like a real ninja. At that time, however, the rain cats dissolved into a mist and Komala appeared between them. She then pointed a finger at Garmadon and lifted his curse. Wu thanked her and ran to Garmadon and hugged him. The younger brother then wanted to return the Cat-Eye Jewel to Komala, but Dillon asked the two boys if they could bring it back to the top of the mountain, as their ninja powers made it much easier. The brothers agreed and Garmadon then grabbed the Jewel from Wu and grinned, shouting that who would be first at the top wins. Garmadon took off and Wu smiled because he was happy his brother returned. Then he ran after his brother to the top.[23]
When they returned the Jewel back on the top, the brothers said goodbye to the Order of Felis and continued on their way to the Northern Ocean.
Stop in the village[]
Wu and Garmadon going to the village
Over the next five days of wandering in woods and fields, Wu and Garmadon talked about a lot of things, and when they had no more topics to talk to, Wu sang every song he remembered to make their journey shorter. As soon as he couldn't remember another, they started playing "I spy," though the older brother didn't like it very much. When Wu said for the third time that he spies something green, Garmadon was outraged, but Wu told him he had no ideas, as everything around them was green. Garmadon finally let it go and tried to guess. As the older brother gradually pointed to every tree he saw, the grinning Wu asked his brother if he wanted to give up. Garmadon agreed, and Wu pointed at the tree he was spying. Since the older brother no longer wanted to play the game, they began to think together about what to do next. When Garmadon began to complain again that they had to find the tea plant that would help him, even though he didn't need it, Wu preferred not to argue with him, knowing what his brother was like. However, once Garmadon began to suggest that they return, Wu tried to convince him that his father would stop training them and could not become Spinjitzu masters. Then he motioned for his brother to continue playing. Garmadon did, but when he smelled smoke and said he spies a village, Wu scolded him for not playing the game right way. But then he realized that Garmadon was pointing to the real village in front of them, and since they no longer had supplies, they decided to go there. Wu ran first and shouted at his brother that whoever would be there last was a slimy snake.[24]
Wu and Garmadon with Obachan and Hana
Both brothers ran into the village at once. Wu noticed strange behavior in people, but he tried to be nice to them. He then asked Garmadon if he had noticed the villagers' strange behavior, but they both forgot when they smelled food. They followed their noses to the marketplace, and when they noticed the dumplings, they wanted to order at least a dozen. However, Wu realized that they had almost no money left and could only afford one dumpling. Garmadon told the old woman who was selling them, and although she didn't understand at first, she was finally going to get them one dumpling. Garmadon begged her to choose the biggest one, but Wu tried to persuade him to leave it at that and that they could buy a bunch of carrots as they were easier to share. But then the woman's granddaughter came to them and told the woman to give them a whole plate. Wu thanked her and introduced himself and his brother. The old woman and girl also introduced themselves as Obachan and Hana. Obachan then loaded them with a full plate, and Wu thanked them once again and explained that they no longer had any supplies. Then he asked them if anyone in the village needed an extra hand so they could make some money. When Obachan told them not to stay in the village, the boys asked why, and finally Hana explained that people were disappearing. Since the nearest village was one day away, Hana offered them to stay overnight in her brother's room, who had also disappeared. The two brothers then ate their dumplings and went with the women to their cottage.[24]
Wu and Garmadon with Hana in Shin's room
When they entered Shin's room, Hana wanted to bring them some extra blankets so that one of them could sleep on the floor. Garmadon jumped into a bed first, but Wu followed him, and since neither wanted to leave the comfortable bed, they decided to share it. However, Wu couldn't sleep because he was still thinking about talking to Obachan and Hana and asked Garmadon about it. However, his brother behaved indifferently, so Wu eventually gave up and they both fell asleep.[24]
Wu waking up after a nightmare
While the brothers slept, Wu dreamed of finding the tea plant with Garmadon. Wu made tea from it and had Garmadon drink it. When the older brother did, his eyes glazed red and then grew to a huge size. Wu cried at him, but nothing helped. Then, he woke up shaking. He looked over at his brother, who was snoring next to him. But then he heard a call for help from the street. He immediately woke his brother and they both ran to the window. They saw little people on the street kidnapping a much bigger boy. Wu jumped out the window and Garmadon followed him. Both then used Spinjitzu to save the boy. Six small people attacked Wu from behind, hitting him behind the knees. Wu stumbled and then twirled around and kicked one. Garmadon then realized they were puppets, and when Wu grabbed one of them, he noticed. As he was in shock, he dropped the puppet and it and the others ran into the woods. The two brothers followed them, but they fell into the traps that were guarded there. However, both managed to break free and ran on. However, as the puppets disappeared, they decided to return, realizing that the women had not told them everything before.[25]
Obachan and Hana explaining the puppet problem to the brothers
When they returned to the village, Hana ran to them and thanked them for saving Kenji. Wu then asked her to tell them what was going on. Hana nodded and all three entered the cottage. As they sat in the kitchen and Obachan brought them tea, Wu remembered the dream and turned pale. Obachan noticed this and asked him if she was okay, and he would say that he had just remembered a strange dream. When Garmadon said the same, Wu wondered if it was the same dream he had, but Obachan interrupted the brothers. She and Hana then explained to them that many people had disappeared from the village and later returned as puppets who had kidnapped other people. Hana then asked the brothers if they would help them. Although Garmadon disagreed, Hana offered to pay them. But Wu stopped her and said they didn't have to give them anything because they would help them, because that's right. Garmadon, who disagreed, finally said they would help them, but only if Wu was the bait. Wu's stomach sank and asked what bait. Garmadon explained that he would be the bait in the puppet trap, which they would prepare the next night.[25]
The puppet trap[]
Wu being kidnapped by puppets
The next day, the brothers prepared the puppet trap according to Garmadon's plan. When night fell, Wu lay down on a cot in Obachan's flower garden, pretending to be asleep under the night sky. However, in order to tease Garmadon, he decided to add some dialogue to his performance. That's why he shouted out loud, how wonderful it is to sleep outside, where anyone could kidnap him if they wanted it. Since Garmadon was not very happy about this, he ordered him to be quiet and told him that he had been given a simple job. Wu then quietly asked what it's easy to be handled by a bunch of creepy puppets. Then they heard voices and so they were silent, though Wu quietly told Garmadon that he did not know that the puppets could talk. As the puppets walked around the garden, Garmadon picked up a pebble and tossed it at Wu's shoulder, telling him to say something. Wu whispered, that he thought Garmadon said him to be quiet, but eventually he started screaming how wonderful it is to sleep outside. When two puppet commanders entered the garden, followed by the other puppets, Wu was lying perfectly still with his eyes closed, pretending to be asleep. The puppets then surrounded Wu and tied him from head to toe before he realized the danger. The puppets caught him and began carrying him out of the garden while he screamed for help. Then they entered the woods while Garmadon followed them until they came to a large hole in the ground which the puppets entered with the tied Wu.[26]
Tanabrax transmitting Wu's soul into a puppet
They then crossed the tunnel and entered a room where a shadow figure stood, calling himself Tanabrax. He then praised the puppets for bringing one of the ninja. He then used the tools he carried to make a puppet that looked like a young ninja. Wu suddenly sprang out of the arms of the puppets, shedding the rope bound his arms. He then shouted at Tanabrax that the game was over and started to launch into a spin. However, Tanabrax took the medallion hung around his neck and pointed at Wu. The young ninja slowly stopped spinning and his eyes locked to the medallion. Then he went limp and a tendril of white energy streamed from Wu's mouth into the puppet Tanabrax held.[27]
The battle with Tanabrax[]
Puppet Wu fighting Garmadon
The next morning, as Garmadon, Hana and Moody broke into the lair of Tanabrax, Puppet Wu was waiting for them at the end of the tunnel. As soon as they got there, he stepped out of the shadows and launched into a Spinjitzu tornado.[28] He then collided into his brother, knocking him off his feet. Before Garmadon could react, Puppet Wu had picked him up by the ankles and flipped him over. When Garmadon stood up, Wu did a handspring flip, landed in front of Garmadon and spun around, pummeling his brother with spinning kicks. Garmadon tried to flip Wu, but his wooded wrist was too thin and the older brother lost his grip. Wu then did three backflips and charged Garmadon again. The older brother than scooped him up with both arms, but Wu chomped down on his wrist and Garmadon let go. Puppet Wu then attacked Garmadon again, but he kicked him away. Hana then noticed a wooden trunk near the wall of the lair and got an idea. Garmadon went to the trunk and shouted at his brother to come to him. Puppet Wu raced across the lair. When he got close to his brother, he jumped up and spun into a kick, but Garmadon swiftly moved left and Wu jumped right into the trunk. Garmadon then quickly closed it. Puppet Wu then began kicking the trunk from inside, but failed to get out.[29]
Wu's soulless body lying in the lair
When Garmadon entered the room with the bodies after the fight, he found Wu there and tried to wake him, but the soulless body did not move.[29]
Garmadon rescuing Puppet Wu from the trunk
When Moody killed Tanabrax, Wu and the other puppets regained their consciousness. Wu immediately started screaming from the trunk to let him out. Garmadon ran to it, opened it, and Puppet Wu climbed out. He then began to explain to his brother that Tanabrax had turned him into a puppet, and Garmadon explained that it was over. Then Wu realized he didn't have his body and asked where it was and if it was okay. When Garmadon told him it was in another room, Wu hurried there, running on his tinny legs. This made Garmadon laugh, and he suggested to his brother that he keep this body and prepare a great ventriloquist act and become famous. Wu told him it wasn't funny and then he marched into the other room.[30]
Wu's soul returning to his body
When they got there, Wu remembered Tanabrax speaking the djinn language when he was putting Wu's soul into a puppet. So he asked Bunch and Moody if Tanabrax had a book. When Moody found him right and brought Tanabrax's book, Puppet Wu opened it and leafed through the pages of the book until he found what he was looking for. When Garmadon asked him if he was sure he would change everyone back, what Wu told him no, but what was the worst that could happen. Garmadon then took the medallion and told Wu to go to his body, which the younger brother had done. Garmadon then cast a spell and the souls returned to their bodies. Garmadon walked over to Wu and asked him how he felt, to which the younger ninja replied that he was stiff and hungry while he stretched. When Hana asked what they would do with the puppets, Garmadon suggested they leave them there, but he wanted to take Wu's puppet home. However, since he could not find her, he told Wu about it. Although the younger brother at first thought he was joking and told him that he was not in the mood to do so, when he noticed the serious look on his brother's face, he also started looking for a puppet. However, when they did not find it, they finally decided to leave the lair.[30]
When everyone left the lair, Wu and Garmadon rolled and big rock over the opening in the ground. They then returned to the village with the other villagers.[31]
In the village with Garmadon, Hana and Shin
When they got there, Hana and her brother Shin came to the brothers and thanked them for the rescue, while Hana said she did not know what she would have done without her brother. Garmadon replied her that he knows what she means. Wu's eyes then went wide and asked if he could hear his brother well, as he said something nice about him. However, then Wu's face got serious, realizing that something had to be done with the medallion, suggesting that it be returned to djinns. Garmadon laughed at the idea and said it might be Wu's worst idea ever, and that they should rather eat, sleep, pack up supplies and get back on the journey. Wu nodded, but still didn't know what to do with the medallion. Obachan then told them to follow her to the garden. When they got there, she told Wu to bring the flour crock from the kitchen and Wu quickly obeyed. When he returned, the old woman put a medallion in the jar and buried it in the ground. Wu asked nervously if it would be safe there, and Garmadon assured him it would. Obachan then suggested that they go eat some of Mrs. Uchida's dumplings. Wu looked at his brother and grinned, asking his brother if they could get dumplings now and the next day they would continue on their journey. As Garmadon agreed, they both followed Obachan so they could eat.[31]
After the journey[]
Years after Wu and Garmadon's journey, Dillon and Adara visited Wu in the Monastery of Spinjitzu and brought him Nineko's umbrella, which they found in the ravine. Wu decided to keep it as it reminded him of how close he came to losing his brother forever.[32]
Although the next part comes from a canonical book, this part is different from the flashbacks that were featured in Spinjitzu Brothers.
As part of Wu's and Garmadon's training, their father sent them into the world to survive the wonders of the realm he had created, to meet the humans who inhabited it, and to learn about the challenges to be faced in protecting Ninjago. Wu hoped that on this trip his closeness to his brother would be restored, as when they were younger. They therefore wrote down the places and tasks they would like to do on the trip, but despite the fact that they went on the same expedition, their journeys took them to different places. Their list included a trip to the Corridor of Elders, where they wanted to take their climbing equipment, climb to the Wailing Alps, where they wanted to enjoy the view and take their earplugs, go to "Cross-country racing with Treehorns" in Birchwood Forest, then want to go for a seafood dinner in Stiix, whose cuisine Wu loved, and finally for a trip to the Holy City of Domu, where their father recommended many good books from their library.[2]
Once during one fight, when Wu was young, he got a hiccup. However, he used it to his advantage, pretending one hiccup and together with it he inflicted an unexpected blow on his opponent.[2]
Death of the First Spinjitzu Master[]
When Wu and Garmadon were young men, their father had Wu and Garmadon vow to protect the Golden Weapons and then passed away.[33] Before he died, he told Wu he would leave him a message that would lead him to his final resting place. After he passed, Wu looked everywhere for it, not knowing it was on his father's staff all this time.[34] Wu and Garmadon would remain allies and a team against evil, such as Samukai, who they encountered and defeated.[35]
Wu learned of Nadakhan and his crew of Sky Pirates but did not encounter them himself, as he "was engaged in battles on the other side of the world" at the time.[36]
When Wu and Garmadon learned of a blacksmith who had absorbed the powers of the Elemental Masters, they sought him out in Metalonia and tried to stop him. The Master of Amber tried to use the Urn of Enmity to absorb their powers, but the urn sucked his spirit instead. The brothers thought it was a fitting punishment for him so they sealed the urn away in a tomb.[37]

Morro's training[]
Thousands of years after Aspheera's entombment, soon after his brother left to train under Master Chen, Wu found a young boy, Morro, rummaging through the monastery's trash cans in search of food. Wu took pity on him and trained him in the ways of the Ninja. He soon discovered that Morro was a descendant of the Elemental Master of Wind and believed him to be the Green Ninja. This ended up being his greatest regret as the thought of the power that came with the title made Morro incredibly arrogant and he flew into a fit of rage when the Golden Weapons did not react as they would when in the presence of the chosen one. Wu was disappointed, but still would not give him the Green Gi, as it was not his destiny. Wanting to prove his destiny wrong, Morro left vowing to find the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master.[34]
Serpentine War[]
Shortly after Morro's departure, Wu and Garmadon met a young woman, Misako, whom they both fell in love with and wanted only the best for her. Wu even taught her Spinjitzu, and they got very close during their training.[2] In their duels, Wu never defeated Misako because both weren't really trying.[38] Later, Wu wrote Misako a heartfelt letter confessing his feelings, but it was intercepted by Garmadon's master, Chen, who convinced Garmadon to sign his own name to it in place of Wu's in order to win Misako's affections.
Wu and Garmaodn fighting in the Serpentine War
Shortly afterwards, the Serpentine War began. Wu and Garmadon decided to unite the Elemental Masters and formed the Elemental Alliance, which opposed Anacondrai in the battle of Birchwood forest. During the battle, Wu saw his brother facing off against a warrior named Mogra, who sided with the Serpentine in hopes of becoming a king, Wu ran into battle with the alliance and warriors behind him. Together, the two brothers defeated Mogra using spinjitzu, but shortly before Mogra was taken away and brought to his presumed execution, he warned them of the snake in their garden becoming a serpent.[39] Unfortunately, the alliance was able to defeat Mogra, but the battle at Birchwood forest was lost when the Master of Earth turned against the alliance after falling victim to the Hypnobrai's hypnosis.[40] Although they lost the battle, Garmadon got an idea and Sacred Flutes were created, with which the Serpentine were controlled and imprisoned in five separate tombs. The war ended and Wu, Garmadon and Mystake participated in the court of the Anacondrai generals as judges who banished Arcturus and other generals to the Cursed Realm.[41]
Battle for All Time[]
Young Wu and Garmadon fighting with the Time Twins
Shortly after congratulating the Elemental Alliance on their victory against the Anacondrai, the Elemental Masters of Time, twins Acronix and Krux, turned against them, believing that Ninjago should be ruled by the most powerful.[42] After the Elemental Masters were defeated by the Hands of Time, Wu came up with the idea to have the Masters of Fire and Water forged the Time Blades. When the weapons were done, he had the two rest as he and Garmadon donned the weapons and fought against the Time Twins.[43]
Young Wu and Garmadon with the Time Blades
After a short battle, the sons of the First Spinjitzu Master defeated them, used the gauntlets to absorb their powers. Wu and Garmadon agreed that the element of Time was too powerful, and performed a ritual to open a Temporal vortex, to send the newly empowered Time Blades to be lost in time forever. Refusing to be defeated, the powerless Time Twins broke free of the Elemental Masters and into the Vortex. Within the Vortex, Wu saw a blimp that told him the exact time Acronix would eventually return to Ninjago—forty years in the future.[42] He kept this knowledge in mind, but thought Krux to be lost to time forever, unaware he would be released from the Vortex and know of his brother's return.[43]
Immediately after the Time Twins disappeared, the future Acronix and Krux appeared in a giant mech and an army of unfamiliar snake warriors. He, Garmadon, and the Elemental Alliance were no match for the Vermillion, but they were unknowingly assisted by the future children of Ray and Maya, Kai and Nya, pretending to be their parents. The Time Twins fled into time with the Iron Doom but were followed by "Ray" and "Maya's" Fusion Dragon. A mysterious individual riding the dragon, Wu's future self, tossed him the Reversal Time Blade. He gave it to Ray and Maya, who locked the Time Blade away in the Boiling Sea. Wu also heeded an instruction from his older self to obtain Obscuritea from Mystake, which erased his memories of the battle against the future versions of the Time Twins and the timeline of Ninjago was corrected.[44]
Lilly's training[]
Wu meditates with Lilly
Although the next part, according to the comic, takes place after Garmadon's banishment, in order to fit the continuity, it must take place before the banishment. See here for further explanation.
At some point after the Master of Earth of the Elemental Alliance transmitted his Earth power to his daughter Lilly, Wu took the girl under his tutelage to teach her to be a ninja and to master her elemental power. During their training Wu and Lilly notably meditated in the bamboo forest near the monastery, fought and trained in the monastery and Wu teach Lilly Spinjitzu. When Lilly left to complete dangerous missions, Wu always expected her to return.[45] When Lilly returned from the mission in Shintaro Mountain, Wu welcomed her and was happy with her return. The master of Earth also told her mentor that her powers were strongest when she was closest to the earth.[46] Shortly afterwards, he was present at the birth of Cole, who was to become his next student in the future.[45]
Battle Between Brothers[]
Wu with Misako and Garmadon, sometime before Garmadon's banishment.
When Garmadon married Misako and eventually fathered Lloyd many years later, Wu was happy for his brother, but also somewhat melancholy due to the affection he still personally harbored for Misako.
Wu confronting his brother over the Golden Weapons.
Garmadon eventually succumbed to the darkness from the Devourer and his Oni heritage and planned to steal the Weapons. But when he tried, Wu confronted him. It was up to him to quench his brother's thirst to destroy. The brothers fought, and Wu won the battle, but at a cost. The kimono he was wearing had a protection spell to keep him safe from evil. This in turn worked on Garmadon, and cast Garmadon into the Underworld, banishing him for what could have been eternity.[47]
Peace returned to Ninjago, but knowing his brother's ambition to get all Four Weapons, he sealed each one away and placed a guardian to protect each individual one. He sealed the Sword of Fire in the Fire Temple, the Shurikens of Ice in the Ice Temple, the Nunchucks of Lightning in the Floating Ruins, and the Scythe of Quakes in the Caves of Despair in hopes of Garmadon never being able to find them. Fearing his own demise one day, Wu created a map of the weapon's location and entrusted it with his old friend, an honest blacksmith.[48]
At an unknown point in time, Wu visited a southern island known for its warm weather, only to find that everything had been frozen over with burning ice. He learned that a colony of Ice Ants from far up north had migrated beneath the island and had thus affected the environment, which returned to normal after Wu convinced the ants to go back to their original home.[49]
Shortly afterwards, Wu's former student, Lilly, died, so Wu did not look for more students for a long time.[50] Over the following years, Wu stopped writing in his journal, he grew a long beard and studied a lot.[51]
Meeting the ninja[]
Wu's first meeting with Zane
A few years before Garmadon's return, Wu went to look for Zane to become a ninja. When he came to the Birchwood Forest and met Dr. Julien, he learned that he was the second guest after a long time, as a stranger had visited them the day before, whom Wu had revealed to be the previous Elemental Master of Ice, and he guessed that he had donated his element to Zane. Dr. Julien then took him to his son. Zane asked Wu if he needed to chop wood. Wu tells him that some would say he has a knack at finding young talent and that he doesn't need to chop wood, at least not that day. Wu then realized that Zane was not ready yet and decided to wait a few years.[52]
Over the following years, Wu often visited his friends, Ray and Maya, and he befriended their children, Kai and Nya. He was looking forward to meeting them again in the future.[2]
A few decades later, Wu went to the clearings north of the Forest of Tranquility, where he collected a herb called Boscus Spiritum, from which special tea was made. Later he meditated, and Eventuali-Tea created from the herb revealed to him that his brother wanted to return from the Underworld. Wu also realized that it was becoming more and more difficult to take care of his father's legacy, so he decided to find four chosen ones who would take care of the Golden Weapons and oppose Garmadon. Wu therefore left the monastery and set out to find his new students.[2]
Wu's first meeting with Cole
After years of searching, he looked for four young people he believed were destined to become the ninja who would protect the Golden Weapons. At first, Wu searched for Cole, and when he realized or sensed that Cole was a climber, he climbed a tall mountain and waited for him there.[2] When Cole climbed the same mountain and found him there, Wu asked him why he had climbed the mountain. Cole told him about his grief over the loss of his mother and that he was angry with his father for spending time with his group instead of grieving. Wu replied that "grief takes many shapes and forms". When Cole then asked him why he had climbed the mountain, Wu told him that he had climbed there to find him. Cole then decided to follow him and went to the monastery to become a ninja.[53]
Wu's first meeting with Jay
Shortly after Wu recruited Cole, he went to Ninjago City and climbed to the roof of a tall building, where he drank tea and waited. Shortly afterwards, Jay landed on the same building, testing his glider. Although he wanted to give up and was angry, he was surprised to meet someone at the building and wanted to know more. Wu told him that "we are only confined by the walls we build ourselves". When Jay asks him who he is, he replied that he was a dreamer like Jay and he is attempting to build the impossible. Then he asked Jay if he would join him, and Jay agreed and went with him to the monastery.[54]
Wu's second meeting with Zane
Shortly afterwards, Wu went again to find Zane, who was no longer in Birchwood Forest due to him losing his memories after his father died. Wu waited for him at the bottom of a frozen pond, where Zane tested his ability to hold his breath underwater, supported by villagers. He was very surprised when he met Wu underwater he drinking tea. Wu later asked him to join him and, like the others, took him to the monastery, where he began training them together.[55]

Wu training Kai
Way of the Ninja[]
Wu eventually returned to Ignacia in the hopes of convincing the blacksmith's son Kai to become the Master of Fire, and thus eventually the caretaker of the Sword of Fire. Upon arriving however he was disappointed that Four Weapons sold only tools for a samurai and voiced his complaints. In response, Wu was promptly ordered to leave by Kai.
Yet Wu didn't get far as the Skulkin Army soon attacked the blacksmith shop. Kai was quickly defeated by Samukai and Wu rushed in to save him, using Spinjitzu. The Skulkin General used his daggers to topple the nearby water tower as a distraction, and Wu hurried to save Kai from being crushed by it. Wu was alarmed to hear Samukai mention Garmadon as the Skulkin captured Nya, yet didn't have time to contemplate the matter as Kai attempted to go after them. Wu told Kai of the Golden Weapons and advised him to become a ninja in order to save his sister.
Master Wu took Kai to the Monastery of Spinjitzu atop the Mountain of a Million Steps where he gave the blacksmith one simple instruction; finish the training course before he finished his tea. However, Wu finished his drink even before the young blacksmith had a chance to start and told him to try again the next day, hoping to teach him patience. Kai eventually succeeded and Wu told him that a final test would come the next day.

The Golden Weapon[]
That night Jay, Cole, and Zane arrived at the monastery and attacked Kai. Wu eventually awoke and rushed out to the training yard to stop the fight. There he used Spinjitzu to give them their appropriate gis and announce their name and element. He then explained their mission before deciding that it was time to retrieve the first Golden Weapon.
To get there, Wu had the ninja pull him in a carriage as a team-building exercise. Upon arriving, Wu warned them not to use the scythe once they found it, and remained behind while the ninja infiltrated the skeleton's mines.
Yet Kai ignored Wu's warning and used the weapon in defense against the Earth Dragon, thus creating a large opening in the ground which the ninja used to escape. Wu chastised Kai for his actions and walked back to the carriage to go the next weapon.

King of Shadows[]
As the ninja sailed through the Frozen Wasteland, "drifting aimlessly for miles," Wu took a perch on the dragon sculpture at the front of the ship they were using. Wu unexpectedly turned around and informed the ninja about the Tornado of Creation, before the ship crashed into the Ice Temple. After they claimed the Shurikens of Ice, Wu sent the ninja alone to retrieve the Nunchucks of Lightning from the Floating Ruins while he prepared a camp in the Forest of Tranquility.
That night the ninja celebrated their success thus far, though Wu was hesitant as they had yet to claim the Sword of Fire. Nevertheless, Kai manages to convince him to show them some dance moves. Wu then sang and danced "Shake What Your Momma Gave You" before they all fell asleep.
Later that night, Kai was lured to the Fire Temple by Garmadon and Wu followed, arriving as his brother was using his shadow to defeat Kai. Wu used his own shadow to stop Garmadon and recovered the Sword of Fire, only to learn that the Skulkin had stolen the other three weapons. Kai, Wu, and Nya attempted to escape from the Temple to help the other ninja, but Garmadon awoke the Fire Dragon who quickly blocked their way out. Realizing the Skulkin were on their way to unite the weapons, Wu used the Sword of Fire to cut a rock free from the pool of lava, thereby sending himself into the Underworld with the Fire Sword to keep the weapons apart.
Weapons of Destiny[]
Upon arrival in the Underworld, Master Wu headed straight for Garmadon's Dark Fortress, where he confronted his brother in the throne room. He easily defeated the Skulkin soldiers sent after him, but soon faced a far greater challenge: Samukai, wielding the other three Golden Weapons. Master Wu fought hard, using the Sword of Fire to great effect, but Samukai's use of the other Golden Weapons overwhelmed him, leading to his defeat moments after the ninja broke into the fortress themselves.
As Master Wu recovered his wits, Samukai took the Sword of Fire and challenged Lord Garmadon for the throne of the Underworld. However, Garmadon simply laughed, revealing that the power of all four Golden Weapons was too much for anyone—even himself—to control, and Samukai was disintegrated as the weapons formed a portal. As Garmadon prepared to enter the portal, Master Wu tried to reach out to his brother, claiming that their father would not have wanted any of this to happen. His pleas were rebuffed by Garmadon, who revealed that his real plan was to trick Samukai into using all four Golden Weapons at once, thereby creating a portal to a realm where he could find the power to safely wield the powerful weapons himself. With that, Garmadon fled through the portal, leaving Master Wu and his pupils to gather the Golden Weapons and return to the mortal realm.

In order to train his ninja even better, Wu used the knowledge of himself and his father and improved them to suit his current students. While he was training them in the monastery and telling them "failed" when something didn't work out, he had to smile in his mind as he reminded himself of his father. During Zane's training with shurikens, he also lost three teapots, which Zane broke.[2]
Later, when he meditated he had a vision of several vehicles the ninja would use in the future. The first vehicle that appeared to him was the Destiny's Bounty, Captain Soto's old pirate ship, which Wu knew had wrecked on the Sea of Sand, and began wondering if it would be difficult to fix it so the ninja could use it if necessary. Second vehicle which appeared to him, the Desert Lightning , Jay's motorcycle, which Wu could imagine traversing any terrain, but he wasn't sure what the desert had to do with the vehicle. He thought Jay would find it there, or that he would build it there, but he finally realized that time would tell. Another Wu saw the Samurai Mech, who greatly outraged him, although he did not see who controlled it. He also saw the Ultra Sonic Raider, which the vision told him they would get under unexpected circumstances, and then the Titanium Ninja Tumbler, though Wu wasn't sure who the Titanium Ninja was, which drove the dark energy out of the vehicle. Then Jay Walker One appeared to him, and he saw an unknown scientist building it in a modern laboratory. He also saw the ghosts that this machine sucked. Then he saw the Boulder Blaster being assembled in the dark alleys of a mysterious place that Wu didn't recognize. Although he had no special relationship with the vehicles, he was sure that this vehicle would help the pilot escape from serious danger.[2]

Wu travelled to the Dragon Stone Shrine and balanced on his staff there until he noticed a spell wandering there. He left his balanced position and demanded to know who was there, the spell apologized and was about to leave, catching Wu's attention, who excusing her and questioned the unchanged spell's existence, as seen had heard about its possility, but never saw one. The spell told him that she had been travelling the realms for centuries. Eventually, the two spent hours talking about their stories, during their talk, Wu identified the spell's feeling as loneliness, and began to the tell her about his brother, and the adventures they went together one their journey, but that they later broke off, causing Wu to feel lonely for many years, until he found students to teach, who later became his family, and that buildings friendships cured his loneliness.
The spell was astonished after hearing what Wu recommended to her. Wu suggested her to take on a physical form to interact with others, after the spell told him that she may use too much of her strength, Wu assured her that there are things more important than that. Wu supported Bonzle as she created her physical appearance.

Wu unplugs the TV
Rise of the Snakes[]
Amidst Ninjago's era of peace, Master Wu often spent time meditating to spirit smoke in his quarters, though on one occasion he was interrupted by the sound of the ninja fighting. Curious he entered the training ground to find it deserted. He followed the cries of battle to the living room only to find the ninja playing video games. Angered at the sight, Wu unplugged the TV and expressed his dismay about them neglecting their training. As a response to their angered outbursts, he began to speak about the power of the Golden Weapons and how they had let to unlock their True Potentials. The ninja however ignored his warnings and returning to their video game, assuring their Master that they would be ready when Lord Garmadon returned. However, at the moment, Nya arrived and informed them that Garmadon had returned and was spotted approaching Jamanakai Village. Wu observed them rush to their dragons, displaying that they were not in peak shape. As they flew away, Nya approached him and ask if they would ever reach their true potential to which he replied that they would "in time."
Wu with the Shurikens of Ice
Later in the day, Wu was disturbed from his meditation to find the ninja in the training course surrounded by flames. After using the Shurikens of Ice to extinguish the fire, Wu angrily demanded an explanation. The ninja revealed they had discovered the prophecy of the Green Ninja and had been holding a tournament to determine who it would be, though Wu informed them that none of them had achieved the skills for the title.
Wu returned to the spirit smoke and saw a vision of the Hypnobrai attacking Jamanakai Village. He quickly sent the ninja on ahead and by the time he arrived at the village, the Serpentine had retreated. Now realizing that a new threat was upon them, the ninja apologized for their lazy attitudes and implored their master to teach them the secrets of the Golden Weapons. Wu agreed and they returned to the Monastery.
Home[]
Wu plays the Sacred Flute
Once again, Master Wu's meditation was interrupted by his pupils' noise-making, but he was pleasantly surprised to find them in the training course rather than the game room. He dissuaded the ninja from questioning Zane's odd behavior and tried to comfort Zane when he became melancholy over not knowing his origins. Later, Master Wu ate dinner with his pupils and was dragged into a friendly food fight.
The next day, the ninja set out to Wildwood Forest on a tip from Zane, who had stumbled upon Lloyd's treehouse fortress after following a mysterious Falcon. Master Wu initially remained at the Monastery of Spinjitzu with Nya, but only so he could prepare himself for the battle against the Serpentine. He and Nya flew to the forest astride Flame's back, only to find the fortress crumbling and Cole attacking his allies (due to Skales' hypnotism). Recognizing the signs of Hypnobrai hypnosis, Master Wu played the Sacred Flute, breaking the spell and allowing the ninja to escape the fortress moments before it collapsed completely.
Wu and Zane
On their way back to the monastery, Master Wu explained the flute's significance to the ninja, claiming that it would play a large part in the defeat of the Hypnobrai. When Flame returned to the monastery, the group was horrified to see it destroyed—the Hypnobrai had burned it to the ground after retrieving their staff. As the ninja rushed to free the other dragons from their burning stable, they blamed Zane for their loss, prompting Master Wu to rebuke them for their rash anger. Before the ninja could apologize, Zane had already flown into the night on the back of his dragon.
Despite the loss of their home, Master Wu remained optimistic as he and his pupils erected a meager shelter from what they could salvage from the Monastery. The next day, Zane returned and explained that the Falcon had led him to a new home: the Destiny's Bounty. As the ninja rushed to explore the ship, Master Wu promised that they would help Zane find his family, only for Zane to reply that they were his family.
Wu with giant thermometer
Snakebit[]
As the ninja worked on restoring the Destiny's Bounty, Jay's parents, Ed and Edna, came by to visit their son. Master Wu watched in amusement as Jay struggled to remain calm despite his parents' embarrassing antics; commenting afterward that the Blue Ninja could teach them all "the art of kissing pillows." The next day, he noticed that the ninja's dragons were molting, and told his pupils that the beasts would have to go to the Spirit Coves to complete their metamorphosis.
After seeing the dragons off, Master Wu joined the others in walking to Ed & Edna's Scrap N Junk so Jay could visit his parents. Upon arrival, they found the owners stuffed in a fridge, slowly transforming into snakes. Master Wu immediately realized that Ed and Edna had been bitten by the Fangpyre tribe, a suspicion confirmed when the Fangpyre revealed themselves, along with Lloyd (who had released them in hopes of getting revenge on the Hypnobrai who betrayed him).
The ninja immediately jumped into battle, fending off the snakes and their new vehicles while Master Wu began playing the Sacred Flute to weaken the Serpentine. Unfortunately for him, Lloyd drowned out the music with a Fangpyre-infected boombox; when Master Wu demanded that Lloyd stop that, his evil nephew simply turned up the volume and claimed not to hear his words. In the confusion, Master Wu was almost bitten by a Fangpyre Scout, but Edna knocked him out with a frying pan.
The Fangpyre were eventually forced to retreat, but their staff and its anti-venom was still in the hands of General Fangtom. To save Ed and Edna, Master Wu told the ninja about the Golden Weapons' ability to transform, and the ninja soon manifested vehicles of their own with which to pursue the fleeing Serpentine. Jay managed to retrieve the staff, but his inexperience with his new vehicle caused him to lose focus, reverting the jet to its original form. The other ninja soon followed, and the group barely escaped back to the Destiny's Bounty with the anti-venom.
Never Trust a Snake[]
One day, Master Wu discovered the ninja slacking off their duties to discuss a dream Zane had about the Green Ninja. As punishment, he made them train constantly until they could answer a riddle: "What is the best way to defeat an enemy?" Over the next few days, the ninja alternated between training and pondering the riddle, but nothing they thought of proved to be correct.
Wu reading a bedtime story
However, more pressing matters arose when Lloyd resurfaced with a new ally: Pythor P. Chumsworth, Serpentine General of the dreaded Anacondrai tribe. The villains took over Darkley's Boarding School for Bad Boys, forcing the ninja to head out—Master Wu and Nya followed in the Destiny's Bounty, arriving just in time to see Pythor betray Lloyd by stealing the Map of Dens and leaving him to be apprehended. Despite the ninja's demands that Lloyd is punished terribly, Master Wu insisted that he take care of his nephew, and proceeded to give him a home aboard the ship. He also read him a book called Jack the Rabbit. When the ninja protested, Wu revealed the answer to his unsolved riddle: "The best way to defeat an enemy...is to make him your friend."
Wu seen by Kai under the influence of Venomari venom
Can of Worms[]
After Wu told Lloyd to prank the ninja and accuse each other, he taught them how rumors can cause trouble. When asked to go to the bridge, the ninja figured the locations of the Venomari and Constrictai tombs, and Wu sent them off.
After the ninja came back, they discovered the Serpentine are in the city and sent them off on another mission. He was later told that his students learned the power of rumors and used it to their advantage.
Wu gives to the ninja their new uniforms
The Snake King[]
Wu hands the ninja their new gi and when the alarm sounds, he told Lloyd to stay on the Bounty while the ninja go on a mission to the Mega Monster Amusement Park. When he saw the ninja disappointed that the Samurai beat them to it, Wu taught them that "iron sharpens iron."
Tick Tock[]
The ninja realize they may have reached their full potential, and accidentally disturb Wu while he is packing. He tells them the story of how and why Garmadon was bitten by the Great Devourer and turned evil, before telling them they have completed their training. He then leaves for Mystake's tea shop for Traveler's Tea and uses it to travel into the alternate dimension Lord Garmadon had escaped into in search of his help in getting Lloyd back and defeating the Serpentine.
Wu and his brother
Once Bitten, Twice Shy[]
Garmadon confronts Wu and a battle ensues, with Garmadon summoning the mud monsters to consume Wu. Wu tells Garmadon that Lloyd is in danger, and Garmadon rescues Master just in time to prevent him from dying. They then journey to the Mountain of Madness.
The Royal Blacksmiths[]
Upon reaching the Mountain, Wu and Garmadon climb up, encountering the Craglings. They defeat the Craglings, and climb up to the top and escape through a vortex back to Ninjago.
Garmadon behind Master Wu
The Green Ninja[]
Wu came back, and while Jay was excited to tell him what he missed, Garmadon appeared behind him. Wu told them he will be staying with them due to Lloyd being kidnapped by the Serpentine, much to their dismay.
Wu had Nya go in front of the Golden Weapons in hopes that it will react, but she refused. Eventually, Jay informed them that the Falcon spotted the Serpentine inside the Fire Temple, and they get ready to attack. Although, Kai thought Garmadon was stealing their Weapons, making the rest of the team to go after him. They were too late, however, and Wu told him off.
They fought the Serpentine, but the Temple was unstable; the Constrictai burrowed their way into the volcano to make it erupt. They were forced to leave without Kai and Lloyd, but after seeing Kai unlocked his True Potential, they realized Lloyd is the destined Green Ninja.
Prior to All of Nothing[]
After realizing that Lloyd would have to fight his father as the Green Ninja, Wu drew up a training plan for his nephew, helping Lloyd study books and scrolls every day at 1 p.m.[2]
All of Nothing[]
After the team decided to travel to the Serpentine's fortress, Wu was informed that Nya and Jay modified her Mech so that he could come along.
However, after a short fight, they were trapped in a Vengestone cage and had to wait for Lloyd to rescue them.
Pythor tries to eat Wu
The Rise of the Great Devourer[]
Wu is meditating with the aid of his spirit smoke. The smoke shows him a vision of Pythor awakening the Great Devourer, causing Master Wu to come to a horrible realization. Later, as the Destiny's Bounty arrives over Torchfire Mountain, Wu tells the ninja that he "will not be able to see tomorrow" while the ninja proceed to set up a plank from where they can throw the Fangblades into the volcano. Unfortunately, Pythor chooses that moment to sabotage the engines, jerking the ship to one side and throwing Master Wu over the edge. The ninja form a human chain to catch their teacher. After Pythor got the four Fangblades, he alerts his minions to prepare for a fight and the Fangpyres use their venom to transform the bus into the Serpentine Train. Later, Master Wu leaps onto the front car and separates it from the rest of the train, declaring that battling Pythor is his destiny, while his students' destiny is to protect Lloyd. Master Wu fights Pythor but does not succeed to stop Pythor from releasing the Great Devourer. As Pythor tries to leave in fear, Wu holds him back, saying that he "must witness what he has created" and tells the ninja that it's his destiny and that they must do anything they can to stop the Great Devourer.
Wu and his nephew
Day of the Great Devourer[]
Master Wu is consumed by the Devourer and is only seen at the end of the episode after Garmadon destroys the Great Devourer. He finds his tea kettle among what is left of the Devourer, commenting that it is still hot.
After Day of the Great Devourer[]
Wu was interviewed by Gayle Gossip and told her about how the Serpentine unleashed the Great Devourer to inform the citizens about the recent disaster.[56]

Wu talking to his nephew during the training
Sometime during Lloyd's training, Wu took his nephew to the mountains where there was a storm. He wanted to train Lloyd by twisting the pendants on twines around him and for Lloyd to hit and destroy them. He told his nephew that he had to focus on each target separately, but Lloyd couldn't do it and began to despair and complain about the bad conditions in the storm. So Wu stopped twisting the pendants and walked closer to Lloyd to tell him that this was exactly the lesson he was trying to teach him. Since in real life the conditions for fighting are often unfavorable, it is necessary to find peace inside and the inner chaos will go away. Lloyd then tried hitting the targets one more time and finally succeeded, causing Wu to smile.

Pirates vs. Ninja[]
Wu observed Kai train Lloyd in their apartment, though when the ninja agreed that their conditions weren't suitable to properly train him, Wu sent them out into the city to find a better place.
Wu trapped by evil ninja
Double Trouble[]
In Dareth's Dojo, Master Wu watched Jay train Lloyd to control his Lightning via light bulb. When the bulb breaks, Lloyd went to put his anger off on a punching bag. Wu told Jay to be patient. Just then, Nya entered to tell Jay if he wants to hang out with her at the Autobody shop and gave Wu a letter from Lloyd's old school. He read it and informed the team there's going to be a ceremony in honor of Lloyd reforming; they've been inspired to turn good.
Later, while cleaning up Lloyd's light bulbs, the "ninja" came back. He questioned if they had fun, with "Kai" replying he should come with them. Noticing they were wearing sunglasses and acting differently, Wu told "Kai" he shouldn't go to the Mega Monster Amusement Park because of his old age. When "Kai" agreed, Wu attacked the imposters, only to be pinned down to the wall by Bizarro Zane's shurikens. Bizarro Kai asks him where the ninja were, but was interrupted when Nya called on Jay's phone to meet her at the Autobody shop. As the evil ninja left, Wu was unable to warn the ninja about the clones.
Wu, Nya and Dareth cheer on the Ninjaball Run
Ninjaball Run[]
Wu had the whole team balance each other, with Lloyd at the bottom. When Jay questions this, he simply told them to find balance, they must trust each other. When a wrecking ball disrupted them, Dareth told the construction workers they were a day too early. Dareth informed them he doesn't have $50,000 to pay off his debts and that a company—Darnagom Enterprises—wants to tear the Dojo down. Figuring out Garmadon is behind this, Wu assures Dareth they'll come up with the money by the next day. Nya informed them about the Ninjaball Run Race, which will provide $100,000 as the grand prize—twice as much money than what they needed.
The next day, Wu sat with the audience to cheer on the ninja. When they won, he celebrated with the team.
Child's Play[]
Master Wu saw the ninja off on their mission to the Ninjago Museum of History, where Lord Garmadon was attempting to revive a Grundle. When the ninja did not return from their mission (due to being de-aged into children as a side-effect of Garmadon's spell), Master Wu joined Nya in searching for them. Their efforts proving fruitless, the duo returned to the Bounty, only to find a message from Lloyd, asking them to meet him and the ninja at the Ninjago Doomsday Comix Book store.
Putting some of the pieces together, Master Wu has Nya accompany him to Mystake's tea shop, where they request some Tomorrow's Tea. Due to Mystake having trouble finding the tea, Master Wu and Nya did not reach the comic book store until nightfall, finding the ninja at the mercy of the revived Grundal. After Lloyd uses the Tomorrow's Tea to restore the ninja and defeat the Grundal, Master Wu witnessed the Green Ninja aging into a teenager along with his friends.
Wrong Place, Wrong Time[]
As the ninja train Lloyd, Master Wu watches and comforted him when he regretted not taking training seriously before he aged. When Zane's Falcon showed a video of the Serpentine practicing for the Final Battle, the ninja went straight to Ouroboros. Once there, they snuck up on Garmadon and attacked. When he retreated, they followed him, only to find a portal created by the Mega Weapon leading to the past. Wu encouraged the ninja to go in after Garmadon and stop him from changing the past.
Wu seeing the dark clouds
After Past Wu talked with Past Kai and Nya, the ninja went to inform him what's happening and asked for help, to which he accepted. When Samukai knocked down Past Kai, Wu used his Spinjitzu to attack the skeleton and save Kai, but Present Garmadon, disguised as a Skulkin, missed Nya on purpose. When Present Kai explained Nya was supposed to be kidnapped, he convinced Past Kai, and Nya, to become a Ninja. Back in the present, Wu watched as Lloyd vanished from a portrait.
At the monastery, Wu tried to make Kai train, but failed due to the latter's lack of motivation. When the ninja kidnapped Nya for the Skulkin, Past Wu then introduced Past Kai to the rest of the team. Present Wu watched Lloyd returned in the picture, but the city began to smoke up and Lloyd disappears once more, as Past and Present Garmadon made up a plan for the ninja.
In the Forest of Tranquility, Present Kai explained to the team what happened as they traversed to the Temple of Fire. After noticing Garmadon said something different than before, Present Garmadon appeared and started attacking Past Kai. After an intense battle, Wu watched as the ninja used the Past Golden Weapons against the Mega Weapon, erasing everything that already happened. In the present, Wu sat on top of the Bounty looking at Delta V.
Wu and the ninja in Ninjago Museum of History
The Stone Army[]
Wu and the ninja travel to the Museum after the Devourer's venom has made the Museum's gift shop bobbleheads come to life. One escapes, and Wu races after it, crushing it with his foot, only to turn around to find Misako, Lloyd's mother, greet him. When the giant Stone Warrior is unveiled, the Devourer's venom drips on it, bringing it to life. Wu and the other escape it for a short period while Lloyd works on a trap. Misako finds Lloyd, and Lloyd tricks the warrior into standing on top of paper covering up the bottomless pit it was found in. Wu invites Misako to join the ninja, and she says only if her son allows it. Lloyd allows her to, and she lives with the ninja from that point forward.

The Day Ninjago Stood Still[]
While the ninja train Lloyd, Wu takes his hat off to look at a photograph of him, Garmadon, and Misako. Misako unexpectedly appears behind him and startles Wu. Misako shows him her research and the scrolls containing the prophecy of the Green Ninja.
Moments later, while an earthquake shakes the Bounty, Misako suggests making the NGTV tower an evacuation station for the Bounty to land on. Wu and majority, if not, all, civilians left in the city, and the ninja climb up the stairwell.
Misako loses the container her research was in and goes back to get it. Once everyone (excluding Misako) is on board, the Stone Warriors start destroying the Bounty's engines, and Wu leaves at the last moment to save Misako as the Bounty flies off.
Misako gets to her research, but at a cost; she is now dangling off the side of a 20-story high stairwell. Wu fights his way through the Stone Army and gets to Misako at the last moment and saves her. They are only left with one choice after the Army backs them into a corner. Zane senses that Nya should fly the Bounty downwards, and orders her to do it. Wu and Misako jump off of the building, and land on, to their surprise, the Destiny's Bounty.

The Last Voyage[]
Wu informed Zane about the Island of Darkness and wondered if Garmadon and the Stone Army set up camp there. Zane then released the Falcon to see what's on the island. After the ninja failed to fix the Bounty, Wu told them they can't give up hope. Misako then told the ninja there's a way to defeat Garmadon; they have to find the Temple of Light to restore their powers. They then decided to sail instead of fly.
When Zane was the only one who didn't say goodbye to anyone, Wu tried to comfort him by saying there are some people who do want to say bye to him. They left Ninjago and watched what the Falcon has to offer, but it was attacked by a Stone Warrior. While they sailed, they went towards a storm, and the Bounty was attacked once more by Starteeth, which was too much to fend off.
The next morning, the ninja tried to rid the Bounty of water, and they crashed on Lighthouse Island. They went to check it out, but not before hearing a growl in the waters. Dr. Julien, surprised to find Zane, opens the door to let them in to explain everything. He then sat them down on a table while Tai-D served them tea.
Wu, the ninja, and Misako
Dr. Julien told them that after Zane left the hidden workshop, Samukai revived him to make him build vehicles for his army. A leviathan was chained down in the Ocean to prevent him from escaping.
After the Leviathan went to check the prison, Julien covered for them by using their cups as drums to pass the time. After it left, they made blueprints and Wu went down to help everyone fix the Bounty. When night falls, the leviathan showed up once more and grabbed the newly-fixed Bounty with everyone in it. Wu instructed Lloyd to use his Energy, but it didn't do anything. Zane went down to release the leviathan using Starteeth, and they were finally freed. They then continued their journey to the Dark Island with Dr. Julien as their new ally.
Island of Darkness[]
When Master Wu sleeps in Destiny's Bounty, Celestial Clock appears to him. He then wakes up.
Later, Wu sends the ninja out to find the Temple of Light while he, Dr. Julien, Misako, and Lloyd stay back to work on vehicles for the ninja. They complete the vehicles, (the Earth Driller and the Fire Mech) before sending out the ninja to the Temple. When Lloyd uses the "Golden Dragon," Wu, Misako, Nya, and Julien are watching inside the Bounty, and Wu is embraced by Misako.
Wu and Lloyd
The Last Hope[]
When he found the ninja using their Elemental Powers, he told them to stop, as it might reveal their hiding place. He then comforted Lloyd when he told Wu that he's afraid of facing his father. He later told Lloyd to let the ninja help Misako infiltrate Garmadon's camp, as it might start the Final Battle early.
He met up with the others at the clock. When they didn't put the helmet on the perch on time, they fell down the cliff, landing in the Endless Sea as Nya gets captured by the Army.
Wu fighting Kozu
Return of the Overlord[]
After encouraging Lloyd to face his father, the team went to the Stone Army base but found it was empty. They followed tracks left by Garmatron to make sure they don't use the weapon on Ninjago. However, Dr. Julien went back to the Bounty.
On the way, they encountered Nya, who is corrupted by Dark Matter. The ninja stayed behind to take care of her while Lloyd, Wu, and Misako continued their journey and fought the Army.
In the midst of the battle, the ninja and Dr. Julien came back to help. However, the Stone Army went back to ninjago via a portal. With the Bounty destroyed, they are stuck on the Dark Island.
Wu meeting his brother
Rise of the Spinjitzu Master[]
Wu surprised the ninja when he told them he has no words of motivation. After Lloyd pep talked to them, they followed the Falcon and found the Golden Mech. With the Ultra Dragon's help, they're able to travel back to Ninjago.
Wu and the ninja decided to go on the Dragon to divert the Army's attention toward them instead of Lloyd. When Lloyd defeated the Overlord, Wu and Misako went to greet Garmadon, now purified of the Devourer's venom.
After the Final Battle
After the Final Battle[]
After the Overlord was defeated, Wu acquired Darkley's Boarding School and turned it into "Wu's Academy", of which he became headmaster and the ninja (along with Nya and Dareth) became teachers.

Codename: Arcturus[]
Wu and Garmadon are at the Temple of Light to restore Lloyd's golden power and the ninja's elemental powers. Garmadon thinks it is a waste of time because they need balance, but Wu tells him it was Lloyd's idea, not his.
Wu spots Cryptor and Pythor on a satellite and sends Kai after them, but Kai becomes careless and is taken prisoner by Pythor.
Later, at Borg Tower, Garmadon tells that they defeated Arcturus, an ancient Serpentine General when they were first on each other's side. Wu asks where the Serpentine did their stargazing, and Zane jumps to the answer: The Lost City of Ouroboros.

Wu and Misako looking at D.B. Express
While helping Nya rebuild the Bounty, he fell asleep from listening to her talk about her problems with Jay and Cole. When Nya asked for some advice on the situation, Wu stated he was staying out of it. He then questioned Misako about contacting Garmadon and the ninja and when she responded she hadn't, he decided to "expand their horizons," to which Nya set off in their backup vehicle the D.B. Express.

Spellbound[]
While Misako attempted to contact Dareth and Nya using the computer in the Samurai X Cave, Wu made a pot of tea and offered some to her. The Greatest Fear of All[]
The ninja return to Ninjago on Elemental Dragons and see Chen hasn't attack yet before heading off for the Samurai X cave. Wu is reunited with Zane complimenting his new form. He is thanked by Garmadon for looking after Misako while he was gone. The group soon wonders on what to do about Chen and his army as Garmadon states if Chen's invades war will break out and their worst fear would emerge as Wu states "The greatest victory would be that has no battle" and after Falcon gives them a clue they travel to Kryptarium Prison and meet Pythor. Initially, he wants nothing to do with them for all the pain they put him through until seeing Garmadon's new Anacondrai form which changes his mind.
Wu and Misako
The prison soon comes under attack by Anacondrai warriors as the ninja go off to fight them Wu and the others stay behind. When Zane notices Pythor's venom falling on Garmadon's hand, transforming it, he deduces that's why they came for Pythor as he holds the key to making the transformation permanent. Wu then realizes that was why Chen hadn't attack yet and agrees with Lloyd on keeping him away from the cultists. Wu has Zane join the other ninja in keeping the Cultists at bay while he, Garmadon and Lloyd make off with Pythor just as the prison is put on lockdown. As the group of four runs away, Pythor admonishes them for their cowardice as Wu retorts back and mentions the Serpentine War and Pythor states Chen informs them that the humans would betray the treaty as Garmadon states Chen said the same about the Anacondrai before Lloyd realizes Chen tricked both sides into war. Once in the prison fields, Wu and the others come face to face with the Anacondrai warriors and tells his family to protect Pythor. A battle breaks out, which causes Wu to lose track of Pythor but he manages to save the latter from being captured by a Cultist, though, is distracted by the ninja breaking through walls. When asked if he had Pythor, Wu looks to see that Pythor was stolen by the Cultists when he wasn't looking. Cole stated they couldn't let the fake Anacondrai escape but Wu said they couldn't let the prisoners escape, telling Cole to stop destroying the walls. Zane then creates an ice bridge which the ninja used to escape and Kai destroys it so the prisoners can't follow them, allowing the Warden and the guards to take the prisoners away.
Wu returns to the cave where he is told that Chen has shipped out several noodle trucks which causes them to note they could invade the city this way.
Wu, Garmadon and Zane meeting Pythor in Kryptarium Prison
They contact the Elemental Masters for back-up but are shocked to see the trucks head off in separate directions and the ninja go off to stop them. Wu tells Nya to ready the Bounty for the worse situation before telling Misako to notify their allies for help and tells Garmadon he was relieved to have him back. As he and Nya work on the ship, the power shuts off but Nya says she'll have back online in no time.
As the ninja and their allies stop the trucks, Wu says the people are safe from the fake Anacondrai but Skylor informs them the Cultists are pulling the ninja away causing Wu to realize too late that Chen tricked them and orders for them to stop the trucks. As the ninja and the Elemental Masters open the trucks to find them empty, they realize Chen's deceit, causing them to lose control of their Elemental Dragons, being overcome by fear. Wu and Garmadon sadly state their worst fears have come true as the Second Serpentine War has just begun as Chen's army invade with no problem.
The Corridor of Elders[]
Wu and his group try to contact the scattered Elemental Masters and the ninja before Chen contacts them saying he has taken control of the radio. Chen states he will offer a truce if the ninja and their allies leave Ninjago but Garmadon states it's a lie, though Wu stops him and tells Chen they would think about it, earning shock from his brother. Wu states their forces are all around and they should consider it before Chen states Garmadon should listen to Wu as his words are what convinced Misako. Wu then learns from Chen that Garmadon placed his signature on the letter he originally wrote to Misako and is enrage by his brother's betrayal as his brother tells him to calm himself before angrily states Garmadon was no master and never was one. Skylor stops their fight before it becomes worse as it was playing into Chen's hands.
Pythor telling his idea to Garmadon, Lloyd and Wu
Eventually, the ninja and their allies receive a mental message from Neuro through Lloyd to gather at the Samurai X Cave. While there Wu is still mad at Garmadon for his betrayal and gets closer with Misako which causes an observing Lloyd to ask his father if they note they know about the letter which the latter confirms. Wu then tells everyone that for Chen to conquer Ninjago he would need to pass through Echo Canyons which would take him to the Corridor of Elders which he tells a curious Shade it is where the statues of their ancestors lay and where they'll make their final stand.
With the Destiny Bounty fully operational, Wu and his group come to the aid of their allies managing to destroy some of the Anacondrai vehicles before Chen orders his army to head for the air and make the canyon larger for them to pass while ordering an attack on the Destiny Bounty. Lloyd and Pythor arrive with the latter telling them he knows a way to defeat the fake Anacondrai which was releasing the ghosts of the Anacondrai generals which required Garmadon (the one who banished them) to take their place. While Garmadon is willing to sacrifice himself to the Cursed Realm, Wu disapproves this, but Garmadon tells him that there isn't enough time to undo all the wrong he's done. Garmadon's decision upsets Lloyd who leaves and takes his anger out on the enemy.
Wu with the ninja and Misako
Garmadon pleads Wu to read the spell and open the portal to the Cursed Realm. Feeling guilty about his earlier behavior towards Garmadon, Wu reluctantly does so; even Misako admits that she has already forgiven Garmadon for the letter. Lloyd returns and takes the spellbook, stating that he'll banish his father since it only seems fair that he does it. As the portal opens, Garmadon says that while he sought to make the world into his own image, he never realized he already had in his own son. Lloyd finishes reading the spell, and Garmadon ascends towards the portal. As he vanishes in an overwhelming flash of light, seven Anacondrai spirits, including Arcturus come out from the portal. The original Anacondrai curse Chen and his army turning them into ghosts, to which they too ascend to the Cursed Realm ending the war though Wu, Lloyd, and Misako are distraught by their loss of Garmadon.
Afterward, Wu is with the ninja and the Elemental Masters celebrating their victory and agree to keep in contact for future conflicts. Later on, he and the others build a fire to destroy Clouse's spellbook and watch as a statue of Garmadon is built in the Corridor for his noble actions. When Lloyd makes a speech about Garmadon, Wu adds that Garmadon was a great sensei as well, implying that he has forgiven him for the letter. Once the ninja swear to combat any threat the future may hold, they promise to live to fight for the future that fate may hold.
Shadow of Ronin (non-canon)
Shadow of Ronin (non-canon)[]
Wu in Shadow of Ronin
Wu relocated to a monastery atop the mountain of Spinjago with the other ninja. While Kai was retelling the events on Chen's Island, Wu entered and informed the ninja that it was time to begin training again, facing off against Dareth's new class of adult students. However the students turned out to be goons of Ronin who lured the ninja to the top of the mountain where he used the Obsidian Glaive to erase their memories. Yet thanks to Wu's intervention, Ronin was only able to remove their memories up until Nya's capture before he escaped.
Wu hugging Misako
Wu then sent the ninja to Kryptarium Prison to seek help from Hibiki. He himself arrived at the prison just as the paranoid inmate was telling them of the Inky Lemonberry, to which Wu pointed out was extinct. Wu was surprised to learn however that the berry still grew in the Toxic Bogs and thanked Hibiki when the prisoner gave them the map to its location.
Knowing that the Toxic Bogs had recently flooded, Wu had the ninja go to Ed & Edna's Scrap N' Junk to retrieve Nya and her grappling device. On their way however, the ninja fell under attack by Serpentine Rattlercopter and Bite Cycles whose memories had apparently been altered by Ronin.
Wu and Jay
Once at the Toxic Bogs, the ninja found the Inky Lemonberry with little trouble and brewed the Tea of Insight. When the ninja obtained knowledge of the location of their Obsidian Weapons, Wu determined that since Cole was the first to learn of the location, that his weapon would be obtained first. Wu lead them to the Caves of Despair, but then left them stating that their destinies would be theirs alone to discover.
Prior to Possession
Prior to Possession[]
After Garmadon's departure, Wu decided to retire and built his own tea shop called Steep Wisdom on the same place where Garmadon's monastery originally stood to pay the bills for the ninja's suits.
Possession
Possession[]

Winds of Change[]
On the first day of business in Steep Wisdom, Wu sent the ninja to advertise in New Ninjago City. However, while they were serving their first customer, the ninja returned and informed him that their elemental powers were gone. At that moment, Lloyd returned from the museum, only possessed by Morro. Wu instantly recognized his former pupil and ordered the ninja to flee in the Destiny's Bounty.
Ghost Story[]
Morro soon caught up to them using his Elemental Dragon and knowing that Morro would be relentless until he obtained the staff, Wu made an imprint of the staff's secret message, then threw it off the Bounty to distract his former pupil. Morro however had disabled the ship and it crashed in the Forest of Tranquility.
The ninja made camp and Wu told them of his past with Morro. The next morning Misako arrived and discovered that the first symbol means Airjitzu, a martial art created by Master Yang. Wu ordered the ninja to head to Stiix while he, Misako, and Nya returned to Steep Wisdom. Once there, he revealed to Nya that she was the Master of Water.
Wu training Nya
Stiix and Stones[]
Wu soon began Nya's training to become the Water Ninja, though she insisted she could aid the ninja just as well being a samurai. Wu pointed out that a samurai was unable to perform Spinjitzu or summon an Elemental Dragon, and he summoned his own as an example. The Master then presented her with the bucket challenge, wherein she had to fill a bottomless bucket completely full of water. This proved difficult for Nya and after trying all day, she gave up. Misako inquired if the day's training was a waste, but Wu noted that she had tossed the bucket into the pond, thus fulfilling her task by doing so.
The Temple on Haunted Hill[]
Wu trains Nya to become the Water Ninja but was interrupted when Misako informed them about Ronin, who explained the ninja gave him their shares of the tea farm.
Wu talking about the Wailing Alps
Peak-a-Boo[]
Wu scolded Ronin for not encouraging the ninja and told them the new suits are embedded with Deepstone to protect them against Ghosts. Wu explained during the briefing that the ninja must climb up the Wailing Alps in order to cross over to the Cloud Kingdom.
Wu informed the ninja they successfully made it to Cloud Kingdom. Their celebration was cut short when they found Ghoultar and decided to capture him.
Kingdom Come[]
Ghoultar was brought aboard the Bounty and Wu questioned the ghost along with Nya and Ronin. However, when the ghost refused to answer, Wu decided that the time would be better spent training Nya and the two left, leaving Ronin in charge of the prisoner.
Wu shakes his hand to Misako
The Crooked Path[]
Wu, along with Misako, tried to decipher the last clue. Later, they told the ninja there are three deadly tests and that there was a map at the back of the Scroll of Airjitzu. If the sword is reflecting the map, the tomb's location will be marked. When Wu tried to go after Ronin to get their sword back, he chased R.E.X. on his dragon, only to find out it was empty.
Wu tried to motivate the ninja by telling them that they weren't fools and that they shouldn't argue. They received a message from "Ronin" that the tomb was in the Caves of Despair. Despite the risks they're taking, Wu sent the ninja to the caves.
Wu in his battle suit with Misako
Grave Danger[]
After Wu, Misako, and Nya arrived above where the tomb is, he asked Nya how her training is going but was concerned when she's starting to act like Ronin.
The Ghost Warriors attacked them, but when they crashed onto a rock and left, they see the ninja, with Lloyd by their side.
Curseworld, Part I[]
Realizing they needed weapons to defeat the ghosts more than he needed his business, Wu sold Steep Wisdom and used the money to finance new vehicles from Cyrus Borg.
As part of their plan to infiltrate Stiix and destroy the Realm Crystal before the Preeminent arrived, Wu and Misako drove a noodle truck up to the city gate where they were stopped by Bansha. Wu offered Morro one last chance to give up, but he was only met by laughter and thrown into prison with several of the town's inhabitants.
When the ninja began their attack, Wu summoned his Elemental Dragon to destroy the prison. He leads the citizens to a waiting ferry where Wu watched to his horror as the Preeminent emerged, Lloyd apparently having failed his task.
Wu holding the Realm Crystal
Curseworld, Part II[]
As the ghosts of the Cursed Realm went on a rampage, Wu had the people of Stiix evacuate on a ferry but it was for naught as the cursed ghost's leader The Preeminent attacked. Aided by its followers, the monster was given the wood of multiple buildings allowing to be able to walk on the sea and pursue the ferry. Once the preeminent caught up with the ferry. actions caused those unfortunate to be grabbed by it to be absorbed making it stronger. As all seemed lost, Nya awoke her True Potential creating a giant wave that drowned the beast.
As the preeminent sunk, Morro was grabbed by its tentacles and was being dragged down and struggled to stay away from the water. However, Wu arrived on his Elemental Dragon to help him grabbing his hand and telling him to hold on but Morro realized that his fate had been sealed, and handed his old master the Realm Crystal before sinking into the ocean and dissolving to Wu's dismay. Wu then used the Realm Crystal to bring Lloyd back, Lloyd returned stating he saw the outcome of the battle on the Sword of Sanctuary. Wu and the ninja celebrate their victory declaring the future seemed alright for them and Ninjago.

Skybound[]
Wu and Cole
Infamous[]
Aboard the Bounty, Wu meditated with Cole, urging him to find what powers he could unlock as a ghost. The Black Ninja was successful in discovering he could disappear and Wu congratulated him.
Wu later summoned the ninja to the bridge of the Bounty, informing them that Clouse had escaped the destruction of the Cursed Realm and was heading to Stiix.
As the ninja pursued him, Wu journeyed to the Domu library to figure out what the sorcerer might be after. His research led him to learn of the Teapot of Tyrahn, shortly after which he was ambushed by Nadakhan, the latter seeking to imprison him.
Attack of the Sky Pirates[]
After Nadakhan introduced himself, Wu wished that no innocents would be harmed in their battle, so Nadakhan moved the library one second out of the timestream. When Nadakhan evaded Wu's attacks, Wu wished for the power to defeat him. Nadakhan made Wu so powerful that he shook the ground when he moved and destroyed everything he touched. Wu wished it all away, having faith that the ninja would stop Nadakhan.
Wu and Clouse inside the Teapot of Tyrahn
Public Enemy Number One[]
While confronting Misako, Nadakhan showed off the imprisoned Wu and Clouse in the Teapot of Tyrahn, before trapping Misako inside as well.
Enkrypted[]
After receiving the Sword of Souls from Khanjikhan, Nadakhan shattered the Teapot of Tyrahn, transferring Wu, Clouse, and Misako into the blade.
Operation Land Ho![]
Inside the Sword of Souls, Wu fell into a deep sleep. He was later awoken by Jay and he and the other ninja were able to escape from the blade.
Wu looking at Djinjago
The Way Back[]
Welcoming his students, Wu would proceed to warn them that by defeating Nadakhan, the Djinn's magic would dissipate, causing the reconstructed Djinjago to fall onto everything below, causing untold devastation. Making a plan, he, Misako, Ronin, Skylor, Captain Soto, and Echo Zane headed down to New Ninjago City to help protect the citizens from the inevitable destruction. Later, when Djinjago began to collapse, he and the rest of the citizens watched in horror as the massive debris fell down.
Dark Island Trilogy
Dark Island Trilogy[]
Dark Island Trilogy, Part 1[]
Wu began to feel a sense of overwhelming darkness. At the same time, reports of missing fishermen off the coast of the Dark Island prompted Misako to want to investigate. As Wu sought to meditate on this approaching darkness, he hired Ronin to accompany her.
After meditating at Steep Wisdom for a week, he was interrupted to a villager who had discovered the ruins of Misako's boat, with no sign of her anywhere. Searching the wreck, Wu discovered a note from Misako pleading to stay as far away as possible from the Dark Island.
Ignoring her warning, Wu gathers the ninja at the Samurai X Cave to explain their mission. As the ninja prepared the Bounty, Wu collected an important piece of cargo which Kai and Jay brought aboard the ship.
Shortly after setting off, the Bounty was struck by a lightning storm. In the chaos, all of the ninja fell off the flying ship though Wu managed to crash it in the jungles of the Dark Island. Upon waking, Wu soon encountered Lloyd fleeing from a group of gorillas he had provoked. After helping the Green Ninja escape quicksand by using Airjitzu, the two returned to the Bounty and spent several days making it seaworthy once more. Although Lloyd wanted to search for Misako, Wu was adamant they sail up the River of Darkness to the Temple of Light.
Dark Island Trilogy, Part 2[]
As Wu and Lloyd continued down the River of Darkness, the Green Ninja began to become affected by Dark Matter, thrashing out violently when they encountered a swarm of oversized bugs. Although Wu tried his best to keep him focused, it wasn't long before Lloyd jumped off the ship and ran into the jungle to search for his mother, leaving Wu alone on the Destiny's Bounty.
As the river wove its way through the Jankikai Jungle, Wu meditated to resist the effects of the Dark Matter himself. Two days after Lloyd abandoned him, Wu was bitten by an infected insect which caused him to hallucinate into confronting a corrupted version of himself.
Following his vision, Wu rested, only sitting up when the Bounty arrived at a mysterious cave. Venturing inside, Wu discovered Clouse, who turned out to be the mastermind behind the events on the island. The sorcerer captured Wu and explained his plan to destroy the Temple of Light and corrupt the entire land of Ninjago in darkness. Before Clouse could stop him, however, Wu broke free and chased him out of the cave, though escaped in the Misfortune's Keep. Cole found Wu shortly after and explained the situation, though Wu insisted on taking the Bounty to the Temple of Light as it stored his secret tea crate.
Dark Island Trilogy, Part 3[]
Wu eventually arrived at the temple with the crate aboard the Bounty, and while the ninja held off the Sky Pirates and Shadow Army unleashed by Clouse, Wu opened it to reveal the Golden Mech. Having had it repaired by Borg following the defeat of the Overlord, Wu piloted it into battle against Clouse, who created his own shadow mech to do battle with it. However, Wu managed to overcome his foe and used the Golden Mech's power to restore the Temple of Light to its original glory. With Clouse's plans foiled, a vortex opened to consume him, and Wu offered his foe help in escaping but was refused, leading to Clouse's imprisonment in the Underworld. Wu and his friends then returned home in celebration, but Wu was soon troubled by visions of old friends . . . and old foes. . . .
Wu-Cru (non-canon)
Wu-Cru (non-canon)[]
Due to the events on the Dark Island, Dark Matter crystals began popping up all over Ninjago and Wu sent the ninja out to investigate. While at Steep Wisdom, Wu came across a mysterious stranger that had elemental abilities and was somehow resistant to the matter's effects. Worried about the ninja, Wu asked the stranger to help find them. The stranger agreed and was able to bring back a possessed Zane whom Wu crafted a special tea for to cure the effects.
The Falcon soon arrived having discovered Cole, and Wu sent the Stranger and Zane to retrieve him. Once he was revived thanks to Wu's tea, the Earth ninja reported that the Serpentine intended to use the Dark Matter to revive the Great Devourer. Although Wu was reluctant to allow the Stranger to continue aiding them, Zane and Cole offered to train it as this mysterious master's immunity to the matter was vital to their success.
After the three returned with Kai and Jay, Wu sent them to the Samurai X Cave to find Nya who had sought shelter there. They soon discovered logs left by Lloyd who had discovered that Fangtom and Pythor were intending to use the Dark Matter to become the Great Devourer, causing Wu to send them to the Mountain of a Million Steps where the old Serpentine Fortress was.
Day of the Departed
Day of the Departed[]
Wu explains the importance of the holiday
On the Day of the Departed, Wu and Misako planned to meet up with the ninja at the Ninjago Museum of History. When the two arrived, the ninja were nowhere to be found, prompting Wu to contact the Ultra Sonic Raider and urge the ninja to hurry up. They eventually arrived and hurried to the gift shop, managing to secure Day of the Departed lanterns before it closed. While Wu was reminding the ninja of the true meaning of the Day of the Departed, they were greeted by Dr. Saunders. After greetings were exchanged, Wu and the other ninja followed Dr. Saunders on a tour of the new Hall of Villainy exhibit.
Wu in the old monastery
After the tour, Wu and the ninja parted ways to honor those who had passed from Ninjago into the Departed Realm. Wu used the Destiny's Bounty to travel to the ruins of the Monastery of Spinjitzu, where he drank a cup of remembrance tea in honor of his father. However, the Yin-Yang Eclipse that coincided with the Day of the Departed that year allowed Yang to revive several villains, among them Morro, who confronted Wu at the monastery. Wu prepared to battle his former pupil once more, only for Morro to reveal that he had not come to fight. He had instead come to reveal the truth behind Yang's intentions and his plot against the ninja.
Wu confronted by Morro
Morro and Wu traveled back to the museum and met all of Wu's students except Cole, explaining to the confused ninja the ghosts appearing were apart of Yang's plan to distract them as Morro confirms it. Wu stops the ninja from attacking Morro by stating he was there to help. He had Morro tell them that Yang tricked Cole into bringing the Yin Blade to Yang's Temple and open a Rift to return to Ninjago. After the ninja realize they forgot Cole, Wu and his students quickly boarded the Bounty to aid Cole, but not before Wu thanked his former pupil before he proceeded to wish him a happy holiday and return to the Departed Realm.
Wu and the others arrived at the Temple, but due to the strong winds, they were unable to get close and physically help Cole. However, their arrival gave him the inspiration he needed to defeat Yang, who saw the error of his ways and sacrificed his chance to become human again to enable Cole to do so. At Cole's suggestion, Wu and the others then took the restored Temple of Airjitzu as their new base.
Prior to The Hands of Time
Prior to The Hands of Time[]
After the Day of the Departed, the ninja and Wu moved to the Temple of Airjitzu, where Wu got a separate room. One day, Wu stared intensely at one of Yang's paintings for several minutes, followed by him chuckling and winking at it before leaving, causing Yang to suspect that Wu knew that he was still living in the temple.[57]
Later he went to the destroyed monastery so that he could complete the unfinished battle with Acronix. He told the ninja that he was going there, but they did not pay much attention to it.
The Hands of Time
The Hands of Time[]
Wu fighting with Acronix
The Hands of Time[]
Wu examined his pocketwatch and waited as a rift opened in the sky. Acronix emerged from the Time Vortex at the ruins of the old monastery just as he was when he went into the Vortex. Upon arriving, however, Wu confronted him and intended to finish their battle once and for all.
Eventually, a battle between the two broke out with Acronix confident in his ability to defeat his much older opponent. After nearly falling to his death, the Forward Time Blade lands in the center courtyard and causes time to skip a minute, ultimately saving him and allowing him to claim the weapon. With the Blade, he succeeded in accelerating Wu's growth, making him feel older. When the ninja interfered, he defeated them with ease and headed to the Ninjago History Museum to meet someone after being assumed deceased after the Forward Time Blade supposedly was destroyed by Lloyd, Kai, and Jay.

The Hatching[]
When the ninja bombarded Wu with questions about Acronix, he told the ninja about the Time Twins.
During his youth, the Elemental Alliance would fight the Serpentine. Shortly after, the Time Twins betrayed them, and they had to fight back with Time Blades forged by Ray and Maya. After stripping them of their powers, they sent the Blades into a temporal vortex.
Misako told the ninja that Wu needed to rest, so they left him alone.
The ninja ask Wu questions
A Time of Traitors[]
When the ninja went to see Wu, he was too tired to answer their questions. Later, Lloyd asks him what a Master must do, but he kept falling asleep before he could tell him.
Scavengers[]
Wu wakes up from a nightmare, with Misako next to him. He confessed he was hit with the Time Punch and told her not to tell the ninja.
Later, he told Lloyd that he wanted the whole team to be there at the fight with Acronix, not just Lloyd.

The Attack[]
As Lloyd tells Wu about the ninja's previous mission, he was sleeping. Later, when he woke up, he saw the ninja playing with the Blade and told them not to do so.
A moment later, they were attacked by Vermillion. He sat next to the Time Blade in order to build his strength. Eventually, he was almost attacked by a Vermillion and Acronix.
When the ninja were slowed down, the twins took him with them.
Secrets Discovered[]
When Wu was brought into the Vermillion Dome of Doom, he commented on how the Vermillion Army's celebration is premature.
Pause and Effect[]
Wu fought the Vermillion, stating his strength has returned. He then sees Misako, who said he failed her. Garmadon and Morro appeared and did the same, but this turned out to be a hallucination, and Wu is still tied up in a cell guarded by Blunck and Raggmunk. When Lloyd came to save him, Raggmunk took Wu away from him. When Lloyd defeated Raggmunk, he was headed toward a cliff. Lloyd was able to save him, but he was kidnapped again.
In a flashback, Ray explained that Wu requested them to forge the Time Blades to defeat the twins. Just when the twins went into the vortex, Wu saw a clue that Acronix would return forty years later.
In the present time, Machia shows Wu to Kai, Nya, and their parents. Acronix explains that the only way to undo the Time Punch is with the Reversal Blade.
Out of the Fire and Into the Boiling Sea[]
Wu waits on the airship for Kai and Nya to return with the Reversal Blade to save him. Once they did, the twins stopped them and let them fall into the Boiling Sea. They were saved when Kai and Nya summoned the Fusion Dragon. When they let them fall into the Boiling Sea, Nya and Kai used the Fusion Dragon to save everyone.
Wu sabotages the Iron Doom to protect his students
They followed Iron Doom into the temporal vortex, with Ray and Maya jumping off to increase speed.
Lost in Time[]
The trio snuck on board the Iron Doom again and confronted their foes again. The outraged Time Twins fought them with Wu fighting Acronix before the latter went to aid his brother and they overwhelmed the two ninja.
Wu stays behind to defeat the Time Twins
Just as they were about to kill them, Wu (who had seen Ray rapidly aging) intervened as Acronix taunted him by stating that there was nothing he can but Wu proved him wrong by quickly grabbing the Reversal Time Blade and sabotaged the Iron Doom. Wu then threw the Blade to Kai and Nya, which tossed them out of the Vortex and into the present time, as Wu stayed behind and fought the Hands of Time.
When they questioned him over the madness of his actions, Wu firmly told his foes that they will end their conflict once and for all as they continued fighting, while traveling further in the future.
Ninjago: Reimagined
Ninjago: Reimagined[]
Wu de-ages into a teenager during a fight with the Time Twins in the Iron Doom.
Golden Hour[]
After throwing the Reversal Time Blade to Kai and Nya and off the Iron Doom, Wu prepared to fight the Time Twins. Then he was struck with electricity from the inside of the Iron Doom. Striking his staff, the Time Twins and Wu were transported to the Fire Temple, where they saw past versions of Kai and Lloyd. Krux attempted to change the past, but Wu stopped him and unintentionally transported himself and the twins back to the Iron Doom, becoming younger in the process.
Wu fighting with the Twins thousands of years before the present
Krux and Acronix deduced that Wu was affected by the energy of the Time Blade, which was allowing the Iron Doom to continue moving through the temporal vortex. Iron Doom drained a lot of his energy, so he de-aged into a teenager. The Twins realized they would have control of time and attacked him again before they were transported to the Temple of Light. Wu again stopped the Time Twins from interacting with the past ninja and the three were warped back to the Iron Doom once again.
Wu turns into a child
At that time, Wu's mustache and goatee disappeared as he became even younger. Then Wu and the Time Twins were transported outside the Monastery of Spinjitzu while children Wu and Garmadon trained with their katanas on the other side of the wall. As the small Great Devourer lurked nearby, Wu's katana flies over the wall. Wu stopped Acronix from picking up the katana and lamented that while he wished he could change this moment, as doing so would prevent Garmadon's transformation to evil.
Wu as a baby after sabotaging the Iron Doom
Wu and the twins continued to warp across several time periods, eventually ending up back on the Iron Doom, where Wu de-aged into a child. Krux mocks Wu's new form and his bowl-cut hair, stating he would be no threat but Wu was not done and threw his staff at Krux and ran toward the time apparatus. When Acronix protested against this, Wu responded that the Hands of Time were no more than "second-hand thugs" before using the Reversal Blade energy to halt the Iron Doom entirely.
With the Iron Doom broken and completely still, an infant Wu floated through the temporal vortex before he escaped.
Prior to Sons of Garmadon
Prior to Sons of Garmadon[]
Wu subsequently found himself in an unknown location in Ninjago a year after getting lost in time. He then achieved a complete transformation into a baby. Misako was then able to find him, but they were both captured by the Sons of Garmadon, a group wishing to resurrect Wu's brother.[58]

Cole finds Baby Wu
Cole and Ultra Violet fighting for the baby
Snake Jaguar[]
While locked up in the Sons of Garmadon base, Cole notices the guards bringing a box into a room, saying it is the key to the third mask. After escaping, Cole went into the room and opened the box, revealing, unbeknownst to Cole at the time, Master Wu in the form of a baby. At first, Cole wanted to leave the baby behind, but Wu started crying, convincing Cole to take the infant with him. Ultra Violet comes into the room and surprises Cole, and they fight for the baby before Cole manages to grab him and lock the villain in the room before fleeing.
Dead Man's Squall[]
Baby Wu
Cole and Wu are able to meet up with Lloyd and the ninja before they find an incapacitated Zane and bring him on board the Destiny's Bounty. The baby was later seen crying, with the ninja wondering if he needs a diaper change and as they were about to bet who's hood they should use, Harumi was able to calm him down by singing to him and putting him to bed. Later, Cole went to check on Wu and sang to him as well before discovering the blue blanket he had been wrapped in is a map to Primeval's Eye, the possible location of the third Oni Mask. Later, Cole gave the baby, who is now wrapped in a beige blanket some tea, which Nya was against, but Cole noted that the baby likes tea. Cole later went to the baby to shield him as the Bounty was about to crash land.
Cole with "Cole Jr." on his back
The Quiet One[]
The baby is the reason why Cole doesn't assist the others in repairing the Destiny's Bounty and he wonders if he should name him Cole Junior. He was able to shield him when the thruster test fails, leaving Jay, Kai and Cole covered in soot, much to Zane's amusement before Cole puts the baby to bed. Later, the baby somehow grew and was able to walk on his own to Jay, handing him a pair of pliers, surprising everyone on board. He soon consumed some tea and said "ninja never quit," which was their motto, making them realize to their shock that the baby is none other than Master Wu, which Jay announces to the others.
Wu was later drinking some tea, as the ninja inform P.I.X.A.L. and Nya of these events. Nya doesn't believe that the baby is actually Wu but soon does believe after she hears the baby talk and drink tea just like her master does. The ninja watched him go for more tea, which Nya and Jay refilled for him. Afterward, questions are raised by how Wu reverted to a toddler; Nya deduced it was because he touched the Reversal Blade before he was lost in time. Zane states if Nya's theory is correct, the blades' effects have now worn off and Wu will keep aging until he returns to normal, eventually.
Wu is later held by Cole as the Sons of Garmadon attacked and surrounded them.
Baby Wu with Ultra Violet
Game of Masks[]
Wu is seen playing around Ultra Violet before she picks him up and holds him as she mentions Harumi is not a bad guy, but a bad girl. Wu was later seen holding a wrench, but soon tripped and briefly cried, causing Chopper Maroon to laugh at him and Wu threw the wrench at his groin in retaliation before hopping away at that achievement and Chopper tries to grab him but he jumps on his back for enjoyment. He later got off as Ultra Violet leaves Chopper to guard the ninja. While Chopper was distracted by Cole's singing, Nya tries to get Wu to grab the keys, but he mistakes the word for tea before realizing, sipping from the kettle before grabbing the keys and heads over to unlock the chains. She soon held him as they get free. Wu later accompanied them as they confront the Sons of Garmadon outside the temple. When the monster Lloyd and Harumi encountered before came back, Cole held Wu before putting him down to do Spinjitzu on the monster. He soon watched Lloyd get on the Destiny's Bounty before the monster broke free of Zane's trap, calling it crabby.
Dread on Arrival[]
Toddler Wu dancing with the ninja
The Ninja were able to tame the sea creature by using the same riddle Wu taught them back when Lloyd joined them and rode it back to Ninjago, where they go to see the Police Commissioner for assistance in rescuing Lloyd and stopping the Sons of Garmadon from resurrecting Garmadon. He was left under P.I.X.A.L.'s care while the ninja carry out the operation.
True Potential[]
Wu was with the ninja as they celebrate the Sons of Garmadon's arrest as well as dancing with them before they hear news that Harumi escaped custody thanks to Garmadon.
Thinking he'll go after him, Lloyd instructs Misako to watch Wu as she and Wu are taken to Dareth's apartment in downtown Ninjago City.

Wu draws on many papers as Misako received a call from Nya, saying they found Lloyd, but don't know what to do before realizing Wu was drawing Mystake's tea shop sign and tells them to go there. Around that time, Wu starts talking in sentences again. Garmadon soon goes after Wu, who through his powers warns Misako and they prepare to leave, but are cornered by him. When Nya and a powerless Lloyd arrived, they told him to take Wu and he does so. On the rooftops, they were soon confronted by Harumi, wearing the Oni Mask of Hatred and Lloyd starts moving along to escape before they get on a moving train. On the moving train, the Destiny's Bounty was able to arrive, but as it was narrow and Lloyd was grabbed by Harumi, he threw Wu to them and Cole catches him. As the Bounty was being crushed by Garmadon's monster, Wu told them "to go," reminding Jay of the bag Mystake gave him earlier and they magically disappear upon opening the bag. They end up in a different dimension and Wu wakes Cole up before they realize the tea was Traveler's Tea. As they wonder where they are, they see many dragons pass by, making them realize they're in the Realm of Oni and Dragons, Wu's father's birthplace.
Prior to Hunted
Prior to Hunted[]
During the week they have been marooned, Wu has regrown to his child self, and his memories of his old life have faded. His clothes seem to have grown with him.

Firstbourne[]
Cole with the child Wu in a new realm.
While Kai, Jay, Zane, and Cole try to work on a communication device, Wu complains that he is hungry before Cole tells him they have to ration their food. Still complaining about being hungry, they tell him to go hunt for some with Cole accompanying him.
Wu and Cole found dinner
As they walk, Wu has doubts about being a ninja before they come across a baby dragon, eating some fruit and Cole notices Wu's fear of dragons and relates that he was afraid of them before but he has seen they are friendly. They try to befriend it but the young dragon and its mother soon chased after them and Wu questions Cole's words on them being friendly. As they run, Wu narrowly avoids the attacks of the young dragon before Cole uses his weakened powers to barricade a cave for him and Wu once they reach it and is successful in protecting them from harm.
As they hide in the cave, the two find paintings of the Oni and realize they are not alone in the new world and Cole wants to tell the others.
They manage to find food, but when they return, they discover their campsite was gone and tire tracks left behind. Wu decides to follow them as that might lead them to their friends and Cole follows him.
Iron & Stone[]
Wu "borrowed" a telescope
Following the tracks, Wu and Cole were able to track the ninja to the Dragon Hunters' camp which they found heavily guarded. Wu wanted to charge in and save his friends but Cole stopped him and stated they needed to wait. Wu then used one of his quotes "Don't put off 'till tomorrow what could be done today," and stated Cole borrowed the words from him after he asked if he used his words against him.
Wu and Cole disguised as the Dangerbuffs
The two disguised themselves and infiltrated the arena as their friends were forced to fight a dragon. Watching from the audience, Wu and Cole were asked who they were and Cole used his alias "Rocky Dangerbuff" for them to blend in while Wu was proclaimed his son "Dangerbuff Jr." However, they were dismayed to hear that the Dangerbuffs were a real Hunter tribe from one of the hunters and they slip away. Wu criticizes him about the disguises as Cole is annoyed before they reach the lever.
They soon get the other ninja's attention, Zane tells Wu that he has to leave, as his mere presence (being part Oni) is making things worse for them. When Wu gets an idea, Cole and Wu pull a lever that throws a Vengestone chain to their friends, which helps the ninja subdue Slab. Afterward, Cole says that may help them before he and Wu run away.
Wu and Cole in the stands of the Pit
Radio Free Ninjago[]
Wu and Cole go up to their friends and promise to free them before they are called on by the Hunters.
Gathering around the fire, Wu and Cole who were still mistaken as members of the Dangerbuff tribe, listen to the tales of the hunters. They learn more about Iron Baron and his motives when a mention of the Oni is brought up, Cole asks about them and just as his question is about to be answered a Dragon appears.
At the weapon, Cole and Wu "accidentally" knock the other ninja off the stand. They try to rescue them, but the ninja are immediately put back into the back of the Dieselnaut by Daddy No Legs.
Now in the back of the vehicle, they are forced to sit back and watch as the Hunters reel in and eventually capture the Wind Dragon.
Cole promises to figure a way out of this situation for both them and the dragons.
Wu inside the Firstbourne mech
How to Build a Dragon[]
As the Dragon Hunters prepare to cook the Wind Dragon for dinner, Cole and Wu manage to persuade Daddy No Legs to let them guard the ninja. While "guarding" them, they make a plan on escaping before Jay remembers what Wu told him the first time he met him and decide to make a mech that looks like a dragon, which they'll believe is the Firstbourne to help out. Over the next few days, Cole and Wu build the Firstbourne mech with parts smuggled out by hiding them in Dragon dung and get them before disposing of it.
As their Dragon was now complete, Cole was hoping to take a test flight, but despite losing weight by cutting sweets, it doesn't work. Wu instead insists he will do it. Later that night, Wu flew the dragon mech before a shot from Iron Baron knocks the tail off and the real Firstbourne appeared. As she was firing among the camp, Wu and the ninja provide a distraction for Kai to free the dragons before they get out themselves.
Wu wakes up as a teenager
The Gilded Path[]
Wu had a dream about his time in childhood with his father and brother, he recalled fishing with them. After both were frustrated at not catching anything, their father told them to have faith and Wu heeded his teachings and was able to catch a fish, to his brother's chagrin. Wu then awoke to his students who pointed out that he has rapidly aged into a teenager overnight. After he tells them of his dream, they pointed out his memories are returning and ask about anything else before a Dragon Hunter appears.
Wu meeting Faith
Heavy Metal overheard that Wu was the child of the First Spinjitzu Master as Kai tells Wu to deny it but Wu reveals it anyway. Rather than attack, Heavy Metal reveals herself to be Faith and that she is on their side and tells him about his father's armor. After she asks if he knows its location, Wu feigns the impression of knowing as he tells his students to have faith in his plan.
During the journey, Wu asked Faith about his father's time in the realm and she tells him with Wu learning about his relationship with Firstbourne and the unbalance in the realm. Wu then tells Faith about Ninjago and what his brother is doing to it.
The ninja soon across two more Hunters, Daddy No Legs and Muzzle, who believe Faith (Heavy Metal) has captured them before they recognize that Wu had a growth spurt and attempt to interrogate him. However, Faith betrays her former comrades and the ninja help her in tying them up. They then steal the two Hunters' vehicles for their journey and leave their enemies behind.
Faith is angry with Wu
Two Lies, One Truth[]
Continuing the journey, Wu is told by Cole that he can't keep up his charade to Faith for long but he tells them to trust his judgment as Cole states he didn't teach the ninja to take the easy way out. Wu then notices Hunters approaching and alerts Cole, who believed he was trying to shift the argument until Wu shows him and they flee the area with the others.
As they escape, they deal with repeated attacks from the Hunters but can hold them before dealing with an Ice Dragon, but Faith detains it. Wu also gets rid of the hunter Jet Jack, who was on his and Cole's vehicle by sending her flying, with him stating he was taking responsibility.
Arriving at the Oni Fortress, the ninja see the area is abandoned and Faith gets frustrated that Iron Baron lied to her and the hunters when discovering the Oni already vacated the realm centuries ago. Wu is asked about the armor's existence and he admits that he doesn't know it's real as she further descents into a rage. As she does so, Wu soon notices something on the fortress' door and has Faith move. Wu then shows that the door holds a map to the armor and sees its real, to everyone's delight.
Wu learns to shoot from Chain Rifle
The Weakest Link[]
Wu is told he needs to know how to use the chain blaster and to ride a Dragon, to truly survive the realm.
After Cole blasted his copter down, Iron Baron fell onto Faith and Wu's vehicle, he attacks them and nearly causes Wu to fall off the rider. Wu hangs on for dear life as Faith grabs his hand but Faith calls him the son of the First Spinjitzu Master, which a shocked Iron Baron overhears. Because of this revelation, Wu becomes the prime target of the hunters as Iron Baron ordered them to forget Faith and focus the entire hunt to capture Wu instead.
Fortunately, the ninja steal the Dieselnaut, and Faith sacrifices herself by letting the hunters capture her and half the vehicle while Wu and the ninja escape.
Saving Faith[]
Wu aged further, and memories restored.
Though the ninja try to talk him out of recklessly going to save Faith, he says they must have faith in him after reiterating his father's words. The group find Faith whose body was buried in the ground but her head wasn't, she tells them it was a trap and they are surrounded by Iron Baron and the hunters.
As they are held captive, Wu apologizes to Faith for not heeding her words but she tells him it wasn't truly his fault. He then watches Iron Baron celebrate his victory at claiming him before hearing his pupils laugh about the situation and asks how they can do so before they explain to him why. Wu then joins in the banter and successfully jokes that Jay is the annoying one and watches as Faith exposes Iron Baron's lies. An annoyed Baron turns on the elemental machine, and as he is tortured, Wu regains all of his memories and ages further, growing a mustache and goatee. Breaking free of his bonds, Wu knocks aside a hunter and claims her hat and staff for himself, as the ninja see he is truly himself once more. He is taunted by Iron Baron before he begins to fight the Dragon Hunters and warns Iron Baron that he will find the armor and will attack the Hunters.
Iron Baron then notes Wu unintentionally confirmed the legend and offers Wu a deal, he leads him to the armor and he will send him and the ninja back to Ninjago. Seeing he was outnumbered, Wu asked for Iron Baron's word and accepted the offer. Wu tells the ninja to have faith once more, and then he and Iron Baron go after the armor alone.
Wu and Iron Baron
Lessons for a Master[]
Wu and Iron Baron continue the journey, Wu questions his reason for lying to his followers and is disgusted by his answer and asks if he will keep his word as Iron Baron agrees.
The two continue and Iron Baron nearly falls, but Wu saves him and Iron Baron questions this and Wu says he won't let someone get hurt. After more traveling, Iron Baron believes they are at a dead end but Wu shows him they are actually at the nest. The two travel through the area and find the Firstbourne and her children asleep, Wu stops one from awakening as Iron Baron believes Wu's Dragon blood is preventing the Dragons from attacking.
They soon spot the armor and Iron Baron pushes Wu aside as the Dragons wake up, Iron Baron puts the armor on and orders the Dragons to attack Wu who is not surprised by his treachery.
After the Dragons show no heed to Iron Baron's orders, Wu reveals that he knew the armor wasn't what allowed his father to control the Firstbourne but that the Dragon only sensed his pure heart of goodness while sensing Iron Baron's evil. As Iron Baron realizes his end, Wu watches unimpressed as Iron Baron throws the armor at the Firstbourne who encases Iron Baron in molten metal. The Dragons turned their attention on Wu and the Firstbourne senses the good in his heart as it did with his father and bows down.
Wu, after claiming the Dragon Armor.
Wu then rides the Firstbourne out of the nest without any chains and discovers the Ninja, Faith, and the other Dragon Hunters, who had since turned on Iron Baron in his absence and freed the Ninja. As soon as he lands, he reveals Iron Baron's fate. The ninja bow to him as Dragon Master, but Wu claims that it is he who should bow to them, as it was they who taught him everything since they arrived in the realm. After Cole points out that their job isn't finished, Wu asks the Firstbourne if she will get him and his former students home. She agrees to do so, calling upon four other dragons for the ninja to ride. He then invites Faith to ride with him, but despite wanting this, she declines to make a change in her own home, earning respect from the other Hunters.
With their work finally finished in the Realm of Oni and Dragons, Wu and the ninja ride the dragons out of the realm and begin their return to Ninjago.
Green Destiny[]
Wu battles his brother
Arriving in Ninjago through a portal forming in the air, Wu and the ninja are devastated by the city's state and look for their friends. They don't have to search for long as Nya contacts them and they make it in time to save them from Ultra Violet and her lackeys. Wu then greets Lloyd and Nya who are amazed to see that he has aged into a teenager and by his new armor. Wu asks about their allies and learns of Mystake's fate before he tells Lloyd he has to confront his father and that he will assist him. Wu then takes Lloyd to Garmadon's palace and senses his brother's evil aura as the latter detects his return.
Confronting his brother with his nephew, Garmadon declares them as his enemies before they fight. The three fought with Garmadon remarking the fight fuels him before knocking Wu from the battle but he is saved by the Firstbourne, leaving Lloyd alone.
Two masters, looking to the future
Wu later regains footing and joins the ninja in taking down the Colossus by using his chain gun to help. Wu's actions come in handy as not only do they regain a new chain but their allies who learned of their return broke out of custody and help them in chaining the threat. Once Garmadon is defeated, Wu watches as the Colossus is destroyed and is happy his nephew has regained his powers.
Several days later, the ninja clean up the Palace of Secrets before Wu, now an old man once again claims that there is trouble. But as they came out, it turned out to be a trick as the public and The Fold wanted to congratulate them as well as P.I.X.A.L., Skylor, and Dareth. Later that night as fireworks were going off around the city, Lloyd comes up to the roof to see Wu saying goodbye to the Firstbourne as she and the Dragons have to leave. Lloyd tells Wu about Garmadon's warning and since Wu didn't see them, Lloyd proclaims that if Garmadon was right: the Oni are coming.
Prior to Tales from the Monastery of Spinjitzu
Prior to Tales from the Monastery of Spinjitzu[]
After Wu grew old again, he decided to rebuild the monastery on the same place where the original stood. With the help of the monks, they managed to build almost the same monastery, but with the added mural.

Tales from the Monastery of Spinjitzu[]
Master Class[]
Master Wu gives the ninja a review in Spinjitzu, teaching them balance conquering fear, focus, and teamwork. In the process of learning the lesson in teamwork, the ninja spill the painter's bowl of golden paint, which in turn covers Master Wu and Kai. Wu then says they are golden and concludes the lessons.
Thinking Wu
The Weekend Drill[]
Wu explains to Misako that the past is the guiding light and that every painting on the mural is reminiscent of something important from the past. However, he pauses over Earth Driller and claims that it has no historical significance and asks the monks who told them to paint it there. In the end, however, he leaves it at that.
Elemental Rider[]
As Kai and Zane walk through the courtyard of the monastery, they notice Wu also walking through the courtyard and mumbling something about Spinjitzu.
Blue Lightning[]
As Master Wu looks at the mural, Jay asks him what's going on. Wu tries to explain the meaning of the mural, but Jay is only interested in his Lighting Jet. However, Wu does not give up and still talks to Jay. However, since the blue ninja still did not listen to him, Wu finally went inside the monastery.
Spinjitzu Brothers
Spinjitzu Brothers[]
Note: The present time of Spinjitzu Brothers is unconfirmed when they took place, but is placed here due to Wu and the ninja having their Legacy suits.
The Curse of the Cat-Eye Jewel[]
Wu taking an umbrella from Jay
In the Monastery of Spinjitzu, the ninja trained on the courtyard even though it was raining. Master Wu stood on a rock and watched them while they were sparring. When Kai asked him why they had to train in the rain, Wu explained that the ninja must hone their skills in every environment. After a short training, jay left the monastery, which had not been there before. He held an old bamboo umbrella in his hands. Wu told him not to open the umbrella because it was too dangerous. Master Wu then swiftly jumped off his rock and took the umbrella from Jay. When Lloyd asked Wu what was the deal with the umbrella, Wu decided to end the training because it was unnecessary anyway. They then changed into dry clothes and gathered in Wu's room. He sat on the floor with the umbrella at his feet and told them the story of that umbrella and his journey with Garmadon thousands of years ago.
After the end of the story, it was no longer raining. Cole then asked Wu how the umbrella got to him, to which Wu told him that Dillon and Adara had brought it to him. Kai then suggested that they go to train again and the others agreed. Jay ran into the courtyard with an umbrella as Wu shook his head, reminding Jay of his father telling him that "curiosity killed the cat." However, Jay did not listen to him and opened Nineko's umbrella, but instead of rain cats, a flood of water poured from the canopy and drenched him. Wu grinned and said that in order to summon the rain cats he would have to be a real sorcerer. Nya then turned to Wu and told him that he had never told them how his journey with Garmadon had ended. Wu replied that these were stories for an another day and then gazed up at the cloud as the memories washed over him.
The Lair of Tanabrax[]
The ninja and Wu at the Turnip Festival
Master Wu and the ninja strolled through a village outside Ninjago City because they thought they were chasing a ring of chicken thieves, but it turned out it was just a bunch of foxes. When Jay pointed out this fact, Wu replied that the most of time, the simplest explanation is the correct one. When Cole smelled something in the village and followed it, the others followed him to the marketplace, where they learned from Zane that they were at the Turnip Festival. Lloyd then asked Wu if they had time, and when the master replied that they had at least a time for a cup of tea or two, they decided to stay there. Jay then suggested that they check out the traveling puppet show. Wu then shouted that there would be no puppets. When the ninja looked at him, he calmed down and tried to persuade them to do something else, such as watching a turnip-toss game. When Kai asked him what he had against the puppets, a cloud came over Wu's face. He finally told them it was a long story and suggested that when they sat under the tree, he would tell them.
Wu and the ninja leaving the festival
Wu then sat cross-legged at the base of the tree and the ninja joined him. Nya then asked him if the story was set during his trip with Garmadon, and Wu agreed with her. Cole, who was taking some donuts, then returned and brought Wu a cup of tea. The master gratefully took the cup from him and sipped the tea. Then he told them the story of his meeting with Tanabrax.
Master Wu's puppet watching the ninja leaving
When he finished the story, all the ninja remained frightened of the puppets Wu was talking about. When Nya said she probably wouldn't sleep at night, Wu smiled and asked her if she understood why he wasn't interested in seeing the traveling puppet show. Lloyd then pondered and asked if Wu knew what had happened to the puppet of him. The master shrugged and replied that he wasn't sure, but that it probably stayed in the underground lair. Nya then asked if anyone had never seen Tanabrax after, and Wu found her right. Laughing and talking, Wu and the ninja then walked away from the festival. While they were leaving, in the back of the traveling wagon, a puppet sat up and watched them go. Master Wu's puppet with glowing glass eyes and no strings.
March of the Oni
March of the Oni[]
Wu telling the ninja about Oni
The Darkness Comes[]
Misako and Wu were in the monastery's courtyard observing the new murals. After a moment, the peace was interrupted when they saw Firstbourne falling. They ran down the mountain and found Faith is also injured. They carried her back to the monastery to help her heal.
Faith mentioned that darkness swept over her home realm and that she barely escaped. Wu points out it might be the Onis' doing and the ninja head to the Bounty to prepare.
Endings[]
Misako listened as Faith told her and Wu what happened in the Realm of Oni and Dragons. Faith laments on how she might have brought the Oni to Ninjago, but Wu reassured her and said they would have gone to Ninjago regardless.
Wu holding the Golden Armor
Meanwhile, the ninja landed near the monastery and Wu and Misako went to see them. They were shocked to learn that Cole fell into the dark clouds and that destroying the Realm Crystal did nothing. However, Garmadon presented them with the Golden Armor and Nya said they can reforge the Golden Weapons. Wu agreed and they waited as Kai began to create the weapons.
After the Oni arrived, Wu decided to help the ninja in their battle; he even admitted to Garmadon that he wasn't expecting to team up with him again and that life itself has a few surprises left for both of them. The Ninja began the fight them and were surprised to see Cole arrived. Nya then hands him his Scythe but they were overpowered and retreated into the monastery. They then watched as Jay asked Nya to be his Yang, to which she accepts. Lloyd then points out that they can try using the Tornado of Creation against the Oni.
Then they found Lloyd under a pile of debris and mourned. He suddenly woke up and the ninja were relieved. Wu was the only one to bid Garmadon farewell once he left, seeing that Garmadon still has a sense of a good in him despite his crimes.
Wu talking with his brother
Wu giving Garmadon his hat
However, when Garmadon left the monastery and sat on a rock overlooking the Mountains of Impossible Height, Wu came to him, who told him that he was glad to have caught him. He also told him that it was strange how Ninjago owed his rescuer and former conqueror, who sided with the light using the Tornado of Creation. Garmadon replied that he was always on his side, but Wu wasn't convinced. The younger brother then took his helmet and replied that although he thought he was only on his side, he could not expel the good that resided in him. He also said of his helmet that it was heavy, just to throw the helmet behind his back down from the mountain after turning. When Garmadon became enraged and threatened to unleash his anger, Wu told him that there was enough with the theatrics, as it was just a helmet. Then he took off his own hat and put it on his brother's head. When Wu turned and began to climb the steps to the monastery, he told Garmadon that the hat would be more suitable for the journey. When Garmadon said he thought they would never travel together again, Wu agreed with him and told him that he had to go on this journey alone. And that no matter which side he chooses, he will always be his brother.[59]
Some time later, Wu attended the celebration in the monastery, where the allies of the ninja visited the monastery and watched the ninja make a new mural with their handprints.
Prior to Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu
Prior to Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu[]
Within six months, Wu changed his appearance and grew his side beard and braid, as did his father. He also started using a different bo staff and wearing a cape. Realizing that the ninja had become very lazy during that time, he decided to get them back in shape. Therefore, he caught a chicken around the monastery upon seeing his ninja become lazy.[60][61]
Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu
Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu[]
Wu teaches the ninja
Wasted True Potential[]
Six months after the defeat of the Oni, Wu is left to deal with the ninja constantly being in a relaxing mood and is utterly incensed by their laziness. The last straw came when the ninja used the sacred divine bell as a hot tub to relax. Wu angrily confronts them for having done nothing but revel in their victory and becoming out of shape. He has them meet in the monastery where he continues to berate his students. He tells an old tale about the Monks who became Ninja. He then sets loose the chicken that had been used to test the Monks before they could become Ninja. Even though the ninja defeated it, he set up booby-traps that caught them constantly while they were completely off-guard and henceforth humiliated. When asked to stop, he decided to engage them in a battle to show them that they had become unfit and soundly dispatched them all before unleashing the chicken to punish them.
Questing for Quests[]
In his quarters, Wu was deep in meditation. Lloyd entered and hesitated, not wanting to disturb Wu's meditation. After some time, Lloyd also attempted to meditate but grew impatient. Eventually, Wu gave up on his meditation. Lloyd informed Wu that the ninja have decided to go on a quest to regain their ninja skills and fitness. However, they were in need of a quest idea and hope that Wu can provide a suggestion. Wu, frustrated, scolded Lloyd for his laziness and urged him to seek out his own adventure.
As the ninja made their way into the Monastery of Spinjitzu, their bodies were adorned with bandages, evidence of the paper cuts they had acquired. Wu caught sight of them and couldn't help but ponder the situation.
Wu talking to Nelson
A Rocky Start[]
Wu found the ninja with all their luggage and asked what's going on. They say they were going on a quest, and P.I.X.A.L. mentioned they could test their new vehicles. They both watch as the ninja left without reading the manual, or bringing their luggage.
The News Never Sleeps![]
Wu asked if he could be of assistance. Nelson, stuttering, struggled to speak. Nelson explained that they had discovered Clutch Powers, who informed them that the ninja were in trouble. Wu was taken aback and asked for more details. Nelson revealed that they were trapped in a pyramid located in the Desert of Doom. Wu questioned their reason for coming all the way to inform him. Nelson replied that they were simply doing their part, like everyone else. Wu expressed gratitude and compared Nelson to Lloyd. Wu instructed them to go straight home and be cautious while he would inform P.I.X.A.L. of the situation.
Ancient History[]
Wu was in his quarters when Jay, Kai, and Cole entered. The ninja informed him of Aspheera, who was attacking Ninjago City and was after Garmadon for betraying her and locking her in a pyramid for thousands years. However, Wu explained that Aspheera was not after Garmadon, but after him.
Wu talking about Aspheera
Never Trust a Human[]
Wu begins to tell the ninja the story about Aspheera.
Under Siege[]
Having recounted from his troubling tale, Wu received backlash from the ninja for his reckless acts. Unable to explain because of their criticism, Wu took the blame for it and before Wu could come up with excuses, they hear an explosion and head outside. When they went out, they caught sight of Aspheera's army approaching the Monastery of Spinjitzu and Fire Fang spewing fireballs at the Ninja. After ducking from one of the fireballs, Cole asks about the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu's location, and using logic, P.I.X.A.L. thought the second scroll would be with an archeologist, so he contacts Lloyd, Zane, and Nya to find Clutch Powers.
The Explorers Club[]
Still trapped inside the Hangar Bay, he mentioned they need to get the scroll back while Jay, Kai, and P.I.X.A.L. work on the mech.
Wu is hiding from Aspheera
Vengeance is Mine![]
Wu and P.I.X.A.L. continue to build the Titan Mech. While building, Nya called from the Land Bounty to tell them that she, Lloyd, and Zane have the second Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu, and Wu tells Nya to tell Lloyd to be careful with the Scroll and hurry to the Monastery. The Elemental Cobras continue to break down the doors that are close to breaking, the ninja started to worry but Cole thought of an idea to hide under the vents but P.I.X.A.L. was doing the finishing touches to the mech. A few seconds later, the doors broke down and when Aspheera came in, she saw that the ninja and Wu were gone, she was surprised at first then later angry, telling Wu to come out and face her if he has the courage but she was alerted when she heard Jay's sneeze, she was able to find the ninja and Wu. Face to face with her after centuries, Wu heard her state that she always dream of this moment, but was stopped when P.I.X.A.L. came in with the finish Titan mech and kept her away from Wu and the Ninja.
Zane saving Wu from banishment into the Never-Realm.
Wu and his pupils engage Aspheera and her forces but soon she was able to overpower him, the Ninja, and P.I.X.A.L. before holding them hostage until Zane arrives in the ShuriCopter and Lloyd and Nya in the Land Bounty. The tides changing Wu watched as most of the ninja used the second Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu to engage Aspheera in an epic Forbidden Spinjitzu fight.
In the end, Zane was left to face Aspheera who tried to ignore him and use the power of the Scroll to blast Wu but he dodged, making the Titan mech disappear instead. Zane then used the Scroll to freeze Aspheera and the Pyro Vipers. When Jay questions how Zane was able to do that, Wu replies that it was the power of the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu and asks Zane to give the Scroll to him, Zane hesitated at first but went to give the Scroll to him.
But before Zane could, he noticed Aspheera has managed to break her arm free from the Ice and aim her staff to use one final hit at Wu but Zane saved his master by pushing Wu of the way causing him to be hit instead and be seemingly destroyed. The Ninja, Wu, and P.I.X.A.L. were heartbroken that their friend is gone once more.
Wu visits Aspheera
After the battle, Wu goes to Kryptarium Prison, where he visits Aspheera whose powers are currently ineffective and being held in cell one. She remarks on how fitting their meeting is since it is like her first imprisonment. Wu is infuriated that her vendetta cost him an innocent, one of his pupils and ask if she is satisfied with her deed. Aspheera is confused, as she reveals that she never wanted to destroy Wu but make him feel her suffering by trapping him.
Aspheera goes on by stating Zane was not destroyed but banished to a place Wu would never go to, the Never-Realm, Wu was horrified to learn this and runs out as she taunts him before laughing maniacally.
A Cold Goodbye[]
Wu using the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu to impede the Ninja.
Heading to the monastery, Wu runs in the room of P.I.X.A.L. where his students gather and reveals to them that Zane is still alive, to their surprise. Wu tells the ninja that Aspheera informed him of how she sent Zane to the Never-Realm, a place his father told him to never go.
The Ninja tell Wu they want to join him but refuses to let them come since the realm is most likely dangerous but they insist to save their comrade. When Wu once more stands his ground, Lloyd seemingly agrees with his uncle's request and tells him to make a plan for his journey before rushing in.
Wu is tied by thr ninja
After getting the bag of rations, and a run-in with the chicken, Lloyd manages to grab the Traveler's Tea, but Wu had sensed Lloyd despite meditating and rushed to their side, holding Aspheera's staff, under the influence of the Forbidden Scroll. When his demands for the tea were proven inactive, Wu attacks them, but with a distraction from Lloyd, they tie him up and gag him, leaving him overpowered.
Wu attempted to plea to them on stopping but his warnings fell on deaf ears and he is forced to watch in horror as the Land Bounty was teleported to the Never-Realm before being freed by P.I.X.A.L. He bitterly reveals that from the beginning the Tea would never work and he lied to them so he could go alone and resignedly leaves P.I.X.A.L. with a cold condemnation for what she had did, saying that she has sent the ninja to a place they would most likely never return from.
The Message[]
Wu meditated in his room while the ninja were in the Never-Realm.
Prior to The Kaiju Protocol[]
Wu was determined to find a way back for them. Together with P.I.X.A.L. therefore, they used Traveler's Tea to find a portal to the Never-Realm. However, they accidentally opened the portal to Chima, one of the Sixteen Realms. From the realm, beavers then invaded the monastery, needing to fix anything.
The Kaiju Protocol[]
Wu tries to open a portal to the Never-Realm.
After getting rid of the beavers and failing to reach the Never-Realm via Traveler's Tea multiple times, Wu created portals to other realms. He was frustrated in his attempts and added more leaves to try again to reach his students. Unfortunately, a portal to the Departed Realm was opened, and this allowed a mysterious creature to emerge. To Wu's horror, it was the Preeminent that escaped and he watched as it went towards the city. Feeling guilt about letting this threat loose, Wu could only stand sullen until P.I.X.A.L. goes after it.
While P.I.X.A.L. attempts to subdue the Preeminent, Wu states his concerns for her. However, she emerges victorious, he congratulates her on the success.
Later, when the Preeminent has been returned to the Departed Realm, Wu says he would tell the ninja to not lose hope. P.I.X.A.L. tries to reassure him by saying he needs to trust his words.
Wu and Zane reunite
Awakenings[]
Wu was looking at a picture of the ninja and P.I.X.A.L. gathered before the Monastery before P.I.X.A.L. alerts him of a strange phenomenon that was occurring. Wu then saw the ninja returning home through a portal. He expressed his happiness to see them again before spotting Zane. Wu gives him a big hug, while the latter is happy to be reunited with him. The old master watched as the delighted P.I.X.A.L. reunited with her companion.
Spinjitzu Brothers
Spinjitzu Brothers[]
Wu and the ninja trying to stop the Sphinx
Note: The present time of Spinjitzu Brothers is unconfirmed when they took place, but is placed here due to mentions of Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu.
The Maze of the Sphinx[]
As the ninja and Wu went to a new barbecue shop in Ninjago City, they walked past the Explorer's Club. When they saw flames firing from the building, they immediately ran inside to find out what had happened. When Cecil Putnam pointed to a large stone Sphinx in the middle, the ninja tried to stop it. Eventually, they managed to trap it under the floor where it was originally, for which Wu, who watched, praised them. When Lloyd then scolded Cecil for having such a dangerous artifact in the center of the city, Wu stopped him and explained that this was not so dangerous compared to a real Sphinx. Nya stopped him, asking him if the Sphinxes really existed, and Jay asked what could be more dangerous than a fire-breathing statue. Wu told him that power and deceit were much more dangerous than fire, and that he and Garmadon once met one on their quest. Jay was pleased that Wu was going to tell them another story about the Spinjitzu brothers, but when Cole said if they could do it at the restaurant, Wu agreed, as he was also hungry.
The Chroma's Clutches[]
Wu and the ninja responded to a call from the Ninjago Museum of History about a series of jewel thefts. As they entered the museum and admired its latest rotating exhibit (this time on a series of artworks reflecting nature), Wu was startled by a live bird, having written it off as an art piece. When Kai reassured him that it was just a bird, Wu admitted that he thought back to a time when he saw paintings that came to life. He then began to tell his students about Mindaro and the Chroma as they looked for the bird.
After discovering the magpie's nest and recovering the stolen jewels, Cole pointed out that the Chroma's painting from Wu's story was one of those featured on the rotating gallery. While the other ninja were amazed to see the painting, Wu remained cautious and hesitant. After his students left, Wu approached the painting alone and carefully studied it before finally dismissing it as a threat, unaware that a dark cloud had suddenly appeared in the portrait's otherwise clear sky.
Prime Empire
Prime Empire[]
After the ninja entered Prime Empire, Zane and P.I.X.A.L. went to Wu. When they told him all the information they knew about Milton Dyer, they and Wu decided it would be best to go to his parents' house, so they went to Ninjago City.
One Step Forward, Two Steps Back[]
Wu, along with Zane and P.I.X.A.L. head to Mrs. Dyer's house and ask questions about her son, Milton Dyer. After receiving information that Mrs. Dyer doesn't know where Milton Dyer is, Wu thanked her and they left.
Wu kidnapped by the Mechanic
The Prodigal Father[]
Wu is seen searching for a kidnapped Zane using security cameras. He then sees Zane riding down the elevator, but it turns out to be The Mechanic's Henchmen. They drop gas on him and he faints.
Later, The Mechanic shows Zane a captured Wu and threatens to hurt Wu by his robo-arm if Zane doesn't reveal the Prime Empire motherboard. When Zane confesses that he has it, Wu sends a distress call to P.I.X.A.L.
Tied Wu
Game Over[]
Wu assists Milton Dyer in getting him to Borg Tower in order to confront Unagami. He then greets the rest of the ninja who were trapped in Prime Empire after Unagami released the captives.
Prior to Master of the Mountain
Prior to Master of the Mountain[]
After the attack by Unagami, Wu realized that the ninja no longer needed him and felt very unneeded. He was closed with his scrolls all day and read them until he went unnoticed in the courtyard for a short time.

Wu with Lloyd and Misako
Shintaro[]
After Jay uses Spinjitzu to do their chores, Wu is buried in the leaves, but gets up and leaves without saying a word to the Ninja.
Wu is then met by Lloyd and Misako in a library who ask about his current behavior. Wu tells them that he feels like he is no longer needed after the ninja were able to complete their missions without them. He then leaves despite Lloyd telling him that he's not useless.
Wu then heads outside after the ninja got word of an invitation to the Kingdom of Shintaro. However, Wu doesn't want to go, so Misako forces him to tag along. But not before Wu accidentally offends Misako.
The ninja and Wu get going shortly, but encounter the Dire Bats. One Dire Bat attempts to take Wu but misses. However, he hits the pole containing the sails causing the Bounty to descend. Nevertheless, they are saved by the Army of Shintaro. Hailmar greets the ninja and Ivory City is seen in the horizon.
Sleeping Wu
Into the Dark[]
Wu and the ninja marvel at the beauty of the Ivory City and are escorted inside the throne room where they meet King Vangelis and Princess Vania.
During the night, Wu goes to his a separate room to bed ready to sleep. However, he is interrupted by Cole, who wakes everyone up and tells them about encountering a purple monster and having a necklace with his mother. Wu tells him it was probably just a dream and he goes back to bed with the ninja.
Wu and the ninja in the palace gardens
The Worst Rescue Ever[]
While the ninja and Wu are exploring the palace gardens, Vania comes from the tunnels and warns the ninja about what she encountered, including Cole who stood behind to attack the Skull Sorcerer.
The ninja, Wu, and Vania tell Vangelis, but he doesn't allow them to rescue Cole citing it's too dangerous to venture into the mines. Outside the throne room, Wu tells the ninja to find Cole and Vania happily agrees to show them the tunnel.
The Two Blades[]
Wu and Vania use cardboard cuts of the ninja to make it as if the ninja are still at the Kingdom of Shintaro although they're not. Wu thinks the ninja will be just fine although that's not the case.
Wu drinking his tea in the palace gardens
The Skull Sorcerer[]
While Wu is enjoying tea in the gardens, Vania and Cole are able to escape the mines. Wu thought Vania would keep her promise, so she apologizes for her actions. Meanwhile, Chompy climbs on Wu's hat and he asks who's dragon it is. Vania replies saying it's her dragon as Chompy begins to eat flowers. Wu recognizes a dragon breed as the Shintaran Ridgeback, although Vania cannot confirm it.
They had to Vangelis to tell him everything, but he has a surprise for them. He reveals the Skull of Hazza D'ur and his outfit turns to the Skull Sorcerer's. They try to attack him, but Vangelis throws his skull at them. He then presses a trap door which causes Cole and Wu to fall into a bottomless pit.
Falling Wu
The Real Fall[]
Wu and Cole continued to fall down the hole. Vania tried to save the two, but she is unable two and they fell until they reach a spider web where they are stuck. Vania and Wu watched in fear as two giant spiders fought to devour Cole, but the two were able to free themselves and save Cole.
The three continued to fall after Cole cut a hole in the spider web. They eventually reached a stream where they are almost sucked into a whirlpool, but Cole was able to use his Elemental Powers to save themselves. Unfortunately, the rock broke and they are sucked into Rock-Bottom. When they swim to the shore of the lake, they meet from the Lowly.
Dungeon Party![]
Wu reunited with Cole and Vania and listened to Korgran tell the story of the Lowly.
Dungeon Crawl![]
Wu talking to Vania
Wu, Vania, Cole and the Upply try to find their way out of the tunnels but without success. When Cole gives up, Wu tells him that his mother once told him that the closer she was to the earth, the stronger her powers were. Cole then managed to use his abilities and found a way. They all swim into the pond and swim through the tunnel. Wu swims last, but Adam, who is in front of him, accidentally drops a rock and rolls Wu's cape to the bottom. However, he is saved by Cole and they both rise to the surface of the pond. Later, when they were attacked by a Lava Monster, Wu helped fight it. When the monster shoots lava at him, he uses Spinjitzu and deflects it.
Masters Never Quit[]
After being chased by the Lava Monster, Wu, Cole, Vania and the Upply came to some place. Wu reads the signs on the gate and tells them that it's the Heart of the Mountain. He says that inside is the teachings of the Spinjitzu Burst. When they enter the temple, they find a statue of Lilly and a large mech. Vania then decides that the only chance to beat her father is for Cole to learn the Spinjitzu Burst. So Cole asks for advice from Master Wu, but he doesn't know the answer. Cole is angry and leaves the temple. Vania tells Wu that Cole needs help. Wu tells her that he is no longer his master. Eventually, however, he realizes that he has made a mistake and neglected his role. Then he went to Cole and told him that Masters never quit.
Prior to The Ascent[]
When Wu regained his sense of adventure, he put on the wooden armor he had found in the temple and held a meeting with Cole, Vania, and the Upply.
Wu with the Upply
The Ascent[]
Wu tells Cole, Vania and the Upply that their friends are being persecuted by the Skull Sorcerer and that they need help. He asks them for suggestions and ideas. When Cole tells his plan to get off the mountain, Wu supports it. Later, he helps Cole control the Stone Mech. When they attach the carts to the mech, they get ready to travel. After being chased by the Lava Monster that Cole destroyed, they managed to get to the surface. They immediately go to Vangelis' throne room, where they find only Chompy in a cage. Then they are attacked by winged guards. Wu tells Cole and Upply to go help the ninja and he stays there with Vania and defends themselves.
Prior to The Son of Lilly[]
Vania and Wu managed to convince the Winged Guards that Vangelis is the Skull Sorcerer. Wu then saddled Chompy and flew into the dungeons with the Princess and the army.
Wu at the Destiny's Bounty
The Son of Lilly[]
When the ninja lose the battle from the surface, the Winged Guards, Vania and Wu, who rides Chompy, arrive. Wu will help the ninja defend themselves from Grief-Bringer. As Cole fights the Skull Sorcerer, Wu realizes that his student used the Spinjitzu Burst. Later, when Vangelis is defeated, Wu went to the coronation of Queen Vania. Soon he went to the Destiny's Bounty with the ninja and they left Shintaro. When the ninja ask him if they are going home, Wu tells them that he does not want to go home yet, but where the wind will take them.
Prior to The Island
Prior to The Island[]
On the way back from Shintaro, the ninja and Wu decided to return home. Wu then decided to go where the wind would take him[62] and also seized the opportunity to go with Misako, Clutch Powers and his interns on an expedition from the Explorer's Club to confirm Misako's theory of the uncharted island and navigate the storm belt. However, when they went to the island, they were hit by storms in the Storm Belt and were wrecked on the island. Later, they set up a tent and made a large HELP sign out of stones in case someone went after them. Shortly afterwards, they went to the jungle to explore the island.[63]

Uncharted[]
Wu with Misako, Clutch Powers and Dwayne
Misako, Clutch Powers with his interns and Wu explored the jungle on the island. They were cutting through the jungle since morning when they encountered a statue that Wu recognized as a totem pole. They thought it is just an ordinary statue, though their hopes were vanished when the Stone Golems attacked them.
The expedition was defeated by the golems who worked with the Keepers, and since they thought they had come to steal the Storm Amulet like everyone else, they imprisoned them in their village.
Wu helps Misako break free.
The Gift of Jay[]
When Lloyd broke into the prison to save the expedition and the ninja, he found that everyone were fine but did not know where Jay was. When they escaped from the prison, Clutch Powers and Dwayne tried to steal the Storm Amulet, but everyone were stunned during the attempt. They woke up on the coast of the island, where they were all tied to wooden poles. When Chief Mammatus was talking about how the First Spinjitzu Master giving them Storm Amulet to guard it, Wu gasped as he mentions him.
With his sister-in-law and her son.
The Tooth of Wojira[]
When Jay was apparently kidnapped by Wojira, Kai managed to burn the rope that tied him to the pole and then freed the other ninja and Wu. When Wu freed Misako, they were attacked by a Rumble Keeper, but Wu easily defeated him with Spinjitzu. While the ninja tried to save Jay, Misako and Wu were recaptured by the Keepers again. When Wojira was discovered as a fake ship built by Ronin, who was imprisoned along with his henchmen, Wu, along with the ninja and the expedition, took part in thanking Mammatus, only to found out that Clutch stole the Storm Amulet. However, he was stopped by Nya. When Lloyd pondered in the docks whether there was a real Wojira, Misako and Wu came to see him, and when Lloyd then asked them about it, Wu told him that even if a real monster existed, she could sleep for another thousand years.
Prior to The Virtues of Spinjitzu
Prior to The Virtues of Spinjitzu[]
Shortly after the conflict on the uncharted island, the ninja, Misako and Wu decided to return home to the Monastery of Spinjitzu.
The Virtues of Spinjitzu
The Virtues of Spinjitzu[]
While the other ninja were in the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Wu ordered Kai and Jay to go to the courtyard and meditate on the six fundamental Virtues of Spinjitzu.
Curiosity[]
Wu with Jay and Kai on the monastery's courtyard
As Kai and Jay competed over who would break more bricks, Wu heard a rumble and went out of the monastery into the courtyard angrily. When he noticed that the whole courtyard was dirty from broken bricks, he asked them where they had taken them, and when they showed him the broken monastery wall, he became even more angry. When the other ninja came to the courtyard and wondered what had happened, Wu explained that instead of meditating on the Virtues of Spinjitzu, Kai and Jay had destroyed the monastery wall. When Jay didn't understand what he meant by these virtues, Wu told him not to tell him he had forgotten. When Kai pretended to know what their master was talking about, Wu asked him to appoint him the virtues. However, as he did not know, Wu turned to Nya and asked her, but she did not know the answer either. The master then asked if anyone at least remembered what he had talked about before, and when even Zane didn't know, he got angry and ordered them to settle in a meditation position on the courtyard.
Appointing the virtues of Spinjitzu to the ninja
After a while, Wu appointed them all the six Virtues of Spinjitzu while circling them from outside the circle. He said the first virtue to Nya, Curiosity. Then he dropped the brick on which Cole was sitting and told him the second virtue, Balance. Then he turned the meditating Lloyd on the other side to face the circle and said the third virtue, Wisdom. As Jay tried to eat the cookie, Wu knocked it out by his bo staff and said the fourth virtue, Honesty. When Zane caught a cookie, he said to the fifth virtue, Generosity, and when Zane handed the cookie to Kai and he was about to eat what Wu had prevented him from, he said the last virtue, Courage. He then explained to them that the Virtues of Spinjitzu are the qualities of which the true ninja is forged.
Wu kidnapped by the Legendary Dragon
When someone knocked on the monastery gate, Wu went to open it, but did not return. When Nya came to the gate and opened it, the ninja noticed a large green dragon holding a screaming Wu in his paws. As the dragon flew through the monastery on its tower during a fight with the ninja, Wu tried to squeeze out the dragon paw, but failed. Wu then used his Elemental Essence of Creation to create a portal without the ninja knowing about it. The dragon then flew inside with Master Wu and the ninja followed them.
In the dragon's paw
Balance[]
Still being held by the green dragon, Wu tried to escape its grasp, but was unable to free himself as the dragon jumped into another portal.
Wisdom[]
After the dragon flew into the portal with Wu in his paw, they both found themselves on the Speedway Five-Billion in Prime Empire, although they quickly left the game by the another portal at the finish line of the race while Wu was screaming.
Generosity[]
Wu screamed as the Legendary Dragon flew into the next portal in the Mines of Shintaro.
Courage[]
Kai protecting Master Wu
When the ninja reached the final challenge on the Island of the Keepers, they noticed Master Wu, who was still trapped in the dragon's paw and screaming. As Kai entered the force field, the Legendary Dragon threw Wu to the ground where he stayed. During the dragon battle with the ninja, the green dragon spewed a green fire at the lying Master Wu, but Kai quickly jumped in front of him and used his Fire to protect him.
Using the power of Creation
When the ninja defeated all the dragons and destroyed the Legendary Dragon, Lloyd found it bizarre. Wu put on his hat then and said that maybe Lloyd was right, but it was also courageous and he pointed at Kai. When Cole asked him if he was okay and didn't hurt himself, he started stroking his long beard and smiling suspiciously at what Nya noticed and said that something seemed wrong. Wu told her that she was very observant and that something like that would come from a curious mind. Lloyd then realized that all the challenges were designed to teach them the six fundamental virtues of Spinjitzu, which Wu confirmed and praised him for a wise discovery.
Smiling at Zane
Wu then used the power of Creation to end the illusion he had previously created, and they all reappeared in the monastery where they sat as before, with Wu standing in front of them, holding his bo staff. He first pointed at Nya with the staff and praised her for her curiosity, which led her to discover the dragon that had taken him. He then started walking from the outside of the circle again along the ninja and told Cole that it was his balance that allowed him to traverse the lava room in the pyramid. Then he walked over to Lloyd and grabbed his shoulder, telling him that it was his wisdom that helped him cross the finish line. He then pointed to the staff at Jay and said that honesty was key to his victory in the ice arena and then went to Zane and told him that through generosity, he achieved his goals. Finally, he poked the staff on Kai's stomach and said that his courage empowered him to conquer the final challenge. When Lloyd then asked him if it wasn't real, Wu told him that reality was all in one's perception, looking at the roof of the monastery, where were all the three dragons Wu was winking at.

Talking to the ninja about Wojira
A Big Splash[]
When the ninja returned from the mission, they met Wu in the hangar bay. He asked them what was in the henchmen-controlled trucks. When he learned that they had Vengestone there, he realized that it has few practical uses. However, if he wanted to know more about Miss Demeanor, who led the group, the ninja told him about the unexpected complications caused by Nya.
Using a magnifying glass
Eventually, they decide to found out more at the library. Eventually, among the scrolls, Wu found what he was looking for, but there was no mention of Water or Wind in a scroll that showed a complete list of the Elemental Powers. Wu then told them that his father had told him an old fairy tale about how he controlled all the Elemental Powers except Wind and Water because they belonged to someone else, Wojira. He told them that Wojira was able to create a destructive storm if she used her elements. However, the First Spinjitzu Master stopped her with the help of the Merlopians, a sea folk who lived long before the creation of Ninjago. Wu then took a magnifying glass and attached it to his eye. With that, he viewed the scroll that depicted the Battle of Nine Days, telling the ninja that Wojira was defeated by a Merlopian warrior by prying two amulets that allowed her to control two forces that affected the Endless Sea. When Jay asked Wu if Nya's powers were conntected with Wojira or her amulets, Wu replied that he didn't know. Therefore, he convinced Kai to call his mother Maya, thinking that she could help Nya with the problem.
Later, as Nya walked around the courtyard, Wu told her that he needs to talk to her. However, he was interrupted by knocking on the gate of the monastery, as his parents Kai and Nya have already arrived.
Prior to The Call of the Deep[]
After Ray and Maya arrived, Wu went to the library, where he searched books and scrolls with Misako for information about the Elemental Power of Water.
Wu giving the book to Nya
The Call of the Deep[]
When Nya, who is not happy with her mother's care, came to the library, Wu and Misako searched the books. Nya asked them if they have found anything, but Wu told her that there is very little mention of water in the books. He argued that Maya might be the answer. Nya continued to complain, but he advised her to talk to her brother.
Later, when an energy wave spilled water in the relaxation room, the ninja had to clean it up. Wu therefore used a mop to wash the floor. When Zane and P.I.X.A.L. entered the room and informed them that the energy waves had come from the Tartarus Trench, Wu asked P.I.X.A.L. if she built a submersible a few years ago, and when she said yes, the master informed the ninja that they must go diving.
With the ninja in Ninjago Harbor
Unsinkable[]
When the ninja and P.I.X.A.L. decided to use the Hydro Bounty, they went with Wu to the harbor. When P.I.X.A.L. introduced the submarine, Wu praised it. Then Nya doubted whether to go to the Tartarus Trench, but Wu asked her if she would rather stay with her mother, because he knowed it would convince her. When his plan came out, he turned around and chuckled.
Wu explaining his research project to Ray and Kai
Riddle of the Sphinx[]
While the other ninja were on a mission in the Endless Sea, Wu persuaded Ray and Kai to take part in his small research project to study the effect of elemental powers on a former master. He jumped on the golden dragon statue in the middle of the monastery's courtyard, from where he watched them. However, when Ray and Kai did only sparring, Wu told Kai to use his Elemental Power of Fire. When Kai listened to him and Ray screamed, Wu chuckled. At that moment, Cole who called with the others run out from the monastery and explained to Wu, Ray, and Kai that the Storm Amulet was in the Explorer's Club.
Cecil Putnam and Master Wu
Wu, Ray, Kai and Cole then went to the club with Misako. All five at once burst into the club and asked if they could go to the archives to get an amulet. When Cecil Putnam didn't want to let them down, Wu told him it was an emergency and that Clutch Powers had a dangerous artifact. Then Cecil replied that they had a good number of very dangerous artifacts in this establishment. When Wu asked him if he was okay with it, he approached him and told him that the members of the Explorers Club laughed in the face of danger. Misako then realized that the only way to get inside was Trial By Sphinx. Then Cecil pushed the button and the Sphinx shot out of the floor, telling its riddle. When Wu wanted to say the answer, Cole overtook him and said the wrong answer, cake. Wu therefore said a second attempt, discipline, because according to him discipline is usually the answer to everything. However, the answer was still incorrect until Kai answered correctly, when Cecil let them in.
Wu defending the Storm Amulet from King Kalmaar
They then burst into the room where Clutch Powers was talking about his fictional adventure. They demanded a Storm Amulet from him. At the same time, Kalmaar and the Maaray Guards burst into the room. Clutch frightened them, threw the amulet into Wu's hands, and ran away. When Kalmaar challenged the master to hand him the amulet but he replied that he should get it himself and prepare for fight. Wu twisted the staff in his hand several times and prepared to fight. He then hit Kalmaar in the face and twisted the staff again. Kalmaar tried to take the Amulet from him, but Wu defended himself with the staff. When they fought again, Wu defended himself with an attacked by the staff. Kalmaar wraped his tentacle around the staff and threw Wu to the other side of the room, knocking the master's staff out of his hands. However, Wu did not give up and stood on the corner of the staff lying on the ground, which jumped right into his hands. He then told Kalmaar that his invasion would be short lived because the ninja would return. The two then run towards each other and collide.
Wu with Ray and Cole
Papergirl[]
After the explosion at the Explorers Club, Kalmaar managed to get the Storm Amulet and left the building. However, he was immediately attacked by Kai and Wu, who ran out of the building, kicked him and threw him to the ground. When Kalmaar fired by the trident at Cole, Wu jumped in front of him and covered the attack with staff, but fell to the ground. When he was attacked by the other Merlopians, he stood up and fought.
Later, when Antonia and Nelson managed to save Kai, Wu with Ray and Cole ran up to them. Wu asked what had happened and thanked them for doing everything they could. Wu then urged the others to hurry, as they could still catch Kalmaar. They therefore ran to the harbor.
Attacking Kalmaar in Ninjago Harbor
Master of the Sea[]
When Kalmaar came to the harbor and imagined the destruction of Ninjago City, Wu ran up to him along the pier and kicked him in the chest. When several Merlopians ran to Wu, Kai came to his aid. When Wu shouted at Kalmaar that he would not leave with the amulet, Kalmaar made fun of him and pretended to leave slowly. When Misako attacked him, Kalmaar brandished his trident and aimed it at Misako in a threatening manner. However, when Wu intervened, Kalmaar redirected his aggression towards Wu and fired his weapon, striking him. As the Merlopians threatened Kai, Cole, Ray, and Kalmaar having Misako hostage, Wu threw his staff to the ground and surrendered.
Wu tied with Ray, Cole, Kai and Misako
All five of them were then tied with a rope to the anchor so that Merlopians could drown them. When Gripe tossed the anchor into the sea, they sank with it. In a moment, however, they surfaced and gasped as they stood on the Hydro Bounty. When Jay untied them, Zane threw the staff at Wu. Wu then twisted it over in his hand and attacked the Merlopians. When Nya emerged from the water and obtained the amulet, Wu took it in his hands.
Later, when they returned to the monastery, Nya talked to Wu and the others about whether Benthomaar could stay with them for at least a while, and they agreed.
Wu with Zane, Jay, Nya, Bentho and the Commissioner at the Ninjago City Police Station
The Calm Before the Storm[]
When Nya and Jay were dancing Dancy Pants at Benny's Arcade Emporium, Wu called them and told them they were waiting for them at the Ninjago City Police Station.
Later, Wu, Benthomaar, Zane, Nya and Jay went with the Police Commissioner to see Glutinous. When the Commissioner roughly told them what the Merlopian wanted, Wu thanked him and entered the room with the others. When Glutinous told them that Wojira had awoken and Kalmaar was heading to Ninjago City, Wu realized that they did not have time, so he called P.I.X.A.L. and asked her if the new vehicles were ready. He then ran out of the room with the others.
Wu yells at Gayle and Vinny to follow him.
Assault on Ninjago City[]
When Wojira and Kalmaar appeared near Gayle Gossip and Vinny Folson in Ninjago City, the Destiny's Bounty flew from behind a nearby building, on which Wu was standing, shouting at them to follow him.
Later, when two children were sailing in the water in the city in a tub, Wu dropped a rope from the Bounty so they could climb up. He then told them to go hide behind P.I.X.A.L., who was steering the ship. When Wojira watched them, Wu shouted at P.I.X.A.L. to hurry. However, Wojira managed to destroy the engines of the Bounty, which collapsed to the sea level, which flooded the city. When Wu and the children had come to terms with their demise, they were saved from Wojira by Kai and Zane, who dispersed her.

Nyad[]
While Nya fought Kalmaar and Wojira in Ninjago City, people on the Destiny's Bounty tried to get away from the flooded city. Wu called with the ninja to regroup, as Nya will not go to hold off Wojira for much longer. However, when Kai told him that the ninja never quits, Wu replied that the wise ninja knew when to retreat. The ninja therefore obeyed him and withdrew. However, as the Bounty failed to get out of the city on time, Wu got the idea and told P.I.X.A.L. to set a course for the NGTV building. Everyone who was on the ship then got out and went to hide in the building while leaving the Bounty at sea as bait for Kalmaar and Wojira.
Wu with Benthomaar and the ninja
As Benthomaar brought the wounded Jay to the building, Wu ran out toward them. He then urged them to take Jay inside and hide the vehicles so that Kalmaar would not find them. When Wu noticed Wojira not far from them, he quickly entered the building. They then talked about how Jay could be saved and later fell asleep.
As Nya rescued Jay and merged with the sea, Wu and the others woke up. Wu then asked Bentho what Nya was doing, and when he learned that she was trying to merge with the Endless Sea, Wu decided they had to stop her. They then ran to the roof and Wu shouted at Nya to come back, but to no avail. Then they decided to go help her.
Wu fighting with a trident
The Turn of the Tide[]
While Kalmaar unsuccessfully attacked Nya, Wu and the ninja threw hooks at the Ninjago City Police Station and climbed the ropes to the roof. When Wojira fired the Fury of the Storm at the building, Jay and Wu fell to the ground. Jay then took Wu's staff and attacked the serpent. When the ninja and Wu were attacked by the Merlopians, he obtained a trident from the defeated warrior and disarmed several Merlopians. Then he used Spinjitzu for another attack. Later, when Kalmaar was eaten by Wojira, Nya turned into a dragon while the others watched her fight with the serpent. When Wojira almost killed the ninja and Wu, they were saved by Nya, who destroyed the Wave Amulet and defeated Wojira.
Wu giving a eulogy on Nya at her memorial
Nya then jumped on the building where they were standing and was about to go to the sea. Wu shouted at her to fight it, remembering who she was, but unsuccessfully as Nya jumped into the sea and left.
Later, when everyone who wanted to say goodbye to Nya at her memorial came to the monastery, Wu stood behind the urn in the middle, saying his speech and that wherever Nya was, she remained in their hearts forever.
After Seabound
After Seabound[]
Tentacles Below![]
A couple of days after the Great Flood, Wu was talking with Misako at the Monastery shortly before Lloyd arrived and told them about the reapirs in Ninjago City and the lack of fish supply which was currently being fixed. P.I.X.A.L. then informed them that there was a sea monster in the city's sewer system that was causing chaos. The ninja went to the city while Wu and Misako stayed at the monastery.
Back to Merlopia![]
In the monastery, during the break of a training session, Glutinous arrived from Merlopia and told the ninja and Wu that due to Benthomaar's absence in a quest to find a Water Dragon, Gripe and some other renegade Maaray Guards found a perfect opportunity to conquer Merlopia, the ninja and Glutinous immediately after went back to Merlopia to stop Gripe's plan.
Great Droids Think Alike[]
After Nya's memorial, Wu spent most of his time in the library trying to find a way to turn Nya back into a human by searching scrolls regarding the Elemental Power of Water with Misako, but without success.
Bad Water![]
Wu made some tea for Misako, but after taking a sip, Misako spit the tea and told Wu that it tasted like boiled rubber right before the ninja told them about the bad water in the shower. Zane later realized that the water was filled with chemicals so the ninja went to the city. Wu was later warned by Zane not to drink any water.
At some point after the Great Flood, Wu helped a grieving Kai by having him practise his form to calm him down.[64]
After many months of searching through many scrolls, Misako decided to go to the Library of Domu, Wu refused to go with her and preferred to stay in search of his own collection.

Farewell the Sea[]
Exactly a year after Nya's memorial, Wu was still searching the scrolls in the library, thinking he might find something in the Scrolls of Quanish the Elder. When Cole entered the room, Wu was upset that he had found nothing. Then he thought that maybe he should go to the Library of Domu with Misako, as they have a larger collection. Cole then told the Master that he thought they should put the team back together as someone was gathering Vengestone. Wu then finally stood up, took his staff, and agreed with Cole about bringing the team back together, as Vengestone's only practical purpose was to negate Elemental Power.
The Shape of Nya[]
Some time later, when the ninja met in the hangar bay and Kai and Jay started fighting, Wu heard some noises and went downstairs to find out what was going on. But then Nya came from the water and told them that they have to drain her powers away to turn her into a human. When Lloyd realized that the only possible way was Aspheera's magic, Wu told them there must be another option, as Aspheera could not be trusted. However, the ninja outvoted him and decided to free the sorceress, with which Wu disagreed at all and left the hangar bay indignantly.
Wu leaving the hangar bay
A Mayor Problem[]
When the ninja returned from the Mayor's Office, they gathered in the hangar bay. Lloyd told them they had to get Aspheera out of prison illegally, which Wu objected, saying this was not the way to turn Nya back, but Lloyd ignored his opinion. Lloyd then asked the others if they agreed with a plan to free Aspheera. Everyone agreed, except for Wu, who apologized to them that he could not be a part of it, as Aspheera could not be trusted. Then he turned and left the hangar bay.
Wu meeting his old enemy, Aspheera
Public Enemies 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5![]
When the ninja returned to the monastery with Aspheera, Wu was already waiting for them right outside the monastery door. The sorceress opened the door just to face Wu's suspicious face. Aspheera said she had always dreamed of changing their roles, which Wu replied that if it was up to him, he would never let her go out of Kryptarium Prison. But then he said that their destinies were now linked and that he would not stand in her way to freedom if she turned Nya back.
Wu and the ninja then took Aspheera to the hangar bay, where they showed her the frozen Nya. Wu explained to Aspheera that she could change her back by draining her powers away, as she had done with Kai. However, Aspheera explained to them that she needed her staff for it, so the ninja had to leave to get it.
Wu protecting the Golden Weapons from Aspheera
A Painful Promise[]
After the ninja went to get the staff and left Skylor in the hangar bay to keep Nya frozen, Wu watched her. When Skylor explained that she would not keep Nya very long, Wu began to fear that they would lose Nya forever. That's when he noticed that Aspheera had disappeared. He immediately started looking for her in the hangar until he found her standing in front of the Golden Weapons and immediately stopped her before she could touch them. Aspheera asked him if it wasn't dangerous to keep them so close to each other, but the Master replied they were powerless, so there should be no problem. When Aspheera then decided to leave because the ninja had not brought her staff, Wu was forced to ask her what might keep her there. Aspheera thought about it for a moment, and then said she wanted to take part in a series of contests to test their strength and cunning. Although Wu disagreed at first, when Aspheera turned to leave, he was eventually forced to agree.
The lifting weights contest
The first contest was lifting weights in the courtyard, in which Aspheera won. Wu argued that he was thousands of years old, but the sorceress beat him, saying that she was also thousands of years old.
Another contest was an arm wrestling in the relaxation room, in which Aspheera also won and called Wu a Wu-ser. The Master asked her if they were done, but Aspheera told him that not even close.
The next contest was playing pool. When Aspheera won using Wu's staff, she threw it back into the hands of the "Treacherous Deceiver."
Wu after the pancake flipping contest
The penultimate contest was a staring contest. Aspheera, however, won again when she startled Wu with her tongue in the eye and he blinked.
The last contest was a pancake flipping, which Wu was also not very good at, and with constant distraction from the sorceress, he failed to flip a single pancake correctly, as they all stuck to the ceiling and then fell on his hat.
Wu with Zane and Lloyd hiding from Aspheera
After the contest, Wu returned to the hangar abay and asked Skylor how Nya was doing. He then noticed one pancake on his hat and threw it behind him. However, Skylor's powers then disappeared and Nya began to drown. Wu apologized to her and watched her. At that moment, however, the ninja returned and Zane froze Nya again. Lloyd then handed over the staff to Aspheera, who, however, immediately began to shoot energy blasts on the ninja. Wu was almost hit, but Zane saved him. When Lloyd couldn't believe that Aspheera had betrayed them so quickly, Wu ironically reminded him that it was he who had warned them about her.
Wu with Nya, P.I.X.A.L., and Skylor
When police helicopters arrived at the monastery and Aspheera asked Wu if he had betrayed her again and called the police, Wu swore it wasn't him. The ninja then explained that the police came because of them, as Kai revealed their real names during the staff theft. Wu then sighed. Aspheera then used the staff to take away Nya's powers, which worked. Once that happened and Nya turned back into a human, Wu ran up to her and held her in his hands while the New Ninja led the old ninja away. The Teal Ninja then warned Wu, P.I.X.A.L., and Skylor that if they would follow the example of the ninja, they would also go to prison.
Wu then took Nya and carried her to the relaxation room, where he laid her on the couch and told her she was finally back.
Wu talking with Skylor
Ninjago City vs. Ninja[]
Some time later, Wu attended a court of the ninja. Before the judge entered the room, Skylor had pointed out that the judge might go easy on them, but Wu had replied that he was nicknamed "Toughbutt." When the judge announced the five years prison sentence, Wu, like the others in the room, was shocked and subsequently very disappointed.
With Skylor and Dareth in the monastery
After they returned to the monastery, Wu told Dareth that the ninja could not blame anyone but themselves, and when Nya disagreed, he explained that although he was happy they freed Aspheera to save Nya, it didn't change the fact that they had broken the law. When Skylor told him that Nya must feel terrible and powerless, Wu explained that Nya had never been powerless, even before she became a ninja, and that he believed she would find herself again.
Wu with Nya in her room
Kryptarium Prison Blues[]
The next day, Wu came to Nya's room and asked her what she was doing as she packed her things in boxes. When she explained that she was throwing away things she no longer needed, Wu tried to explain her that when people get upset, they do rash things, like throwing away all their possessions and that she was not defined by her Elemental Power. Then he noticed a letter lying on her bed about how she had once rescued someone as Samurai X and handed it to her to think about who she wanted to be now.
The Spider's Design[]
Wu talking with Hounddog McBrag
A few days later, when the ninja had already escaped from prison, Hounddog McBrag arrived at the Monastery of Spinjitzu with several police officers to confiscate the Destiny's Bounty. When they knocked on the monastery gate, Wu opened it and asked what they wanted. As soon as he learned that they wanted to seize the Bounty, he became angry and determined to defend the ship, but finally realized that it would do no one any good and let the officers into the yard. Hounddog then handed Wu an envelope from the postman they met along the way. The Master noticed that the envelope containing the newspaper clippings from an unknown person was open, but before he could do anything about it, Hounddog asked him if he knew where the ninja were. Wu replied that even if he knew, he wouldn't tell him. However, the Marshal threatened him that if he was caught helping the ninja, he would have to detain him. To this information, Wu just coldly replied that it would be interesting to see. After this conversation, Hounddog left and the officers flew off with the Bounty, but it destroyed the monastery wall, forcing Wu to sigh.
Wu talking to the ninja
Wu then went to the hangar bay where, with the help of P.I.X.A.L. he contacted the ninja in the subway tunnels and told them what had happened.
Some time later, when Harumi detonated the spider bombs in the N line, the ninja disappeared from the map in the hangar, which Wu was horrified and didn't know what happened.
The Fall of the Monastery[]
Wu and the others fighting the Crystal Council
Wu, P.I.X.A.L., Nya, and Skylor were discussing what might have happened to the ninja shortly after the explosion, which they didn't know about. But then the emergency elevator was activated, and since no one knew who was in it, they all went down to the platform in front of the elevator. As the door opened, four members of the Council of the Crystal King stepped out, Aspheera, Pythor, Vangelis, and the Mechanic. Although Aspheera claimed that they had come for revenge, Vangelis eventually revealed that they wanted the Weapons of Spinjitzu, to which Wu replied to let them come for them and got into a battle pose. He ran forward like the others and attacked Aspheera standing in front of him. However, the Serpentine sorceress used Spinjitzu and threw the master into the stairwell, but that didn't stop him and he immediately went back into the fight. Wu then began to fight Vangelis and managed to drop him to the ground after kicking him.
Wu standing again the Council alone
Meanwhile, the council members managed to take down Skylor, Nya, and P.I.X.A.L. and so Wu was left standing alone against Aspheera, Vangelis and the Mechanic as Pythor held Nya hostage for the time being. The Mechanic mockingly informed Wu that even he couldn't defeat the three of them alone, but Wu confidently replied that they would find out.
Wu fighting the Mechanic
He then ran towards them and attacked them with his bo staff. The hat, which he threw up like a discus, hit Vangelis and knocked him down. With the cape he had untied and threw in her face, he blinded Aspheera, and forced her to crash into the wall. He then grabbed the Mechanic's fired robo-arm in his hand and threw it away and tried to attack him, but Aspheera activated a secret Golden Weapons locker that hit him and knocked him away.
Master Wu defeating Aspheera
Meanwhile, P.I.X.A.L., Nya, and Skylor teamed up and the Nindroid activated the MiniPix, small droids ready to fight the Council. Wu ran towards Aspheera who was trying to get the Golden Weapons and threw her to another platform where he attacked her with his staff and tried to defeat her. He managed to corner her, but then the Crystal Spiders arrived in another elevator and equalized. Aspheera managed to blast Wu to the other end of the hangar with her magic, where he lay down and was subsequently overwhelmed by the debris of the destroyed base.
Wu and the others lying on the courtyard
After the Council obtained the Golden Weapons, they set the spider bombs in the hangar bay and left Wu and the others there to die. However, the last MiniPix finally managed to get everyone except Nya into the elevator and then into the courtyard. When Wu woke up, he realized that Nya wasn't there and ran towards the monastery. But at that moment, the bombs exploded and the whole building caught fire.
Wu with Skylor and P.I.X.A.L. watching their home burn
Horrified, Wu still tried to run inside, despite Skylor's warning. But then a part of the monastery exploded and threw Wu away. However, he immediately stood up and ran after Nya again, but P.I.X.A.L. and Skylor stopped him. It was then that the master realized that he had lost everything. The ninja, Nya and also his father's monastery and he knelt on the ground, looking at his burning home.
Wu and the others looking at Nya's mech leaving
However, just then, the Samurai X Mech flew out of the monastery, controlled by Nya, who landed in the courtyard. Wu was happy that she was alive and even more so when Zane managed to contact P.I.X.A.L. and tell her that they are alive but trapped in a tunnel. Wu didn't hesitate and immediately sent Nya to rush to save their friends, wishing her good luck.
Darkness Within[]
Wu with Cole
Wu along with P.I.X.A.L. and Skylor then decided to go to the old ninja base, Samurai X Cave, which they had prepared for reuse. When the ninja and Nya finally returned, Wu greeted them and told them that he was afraid that Harumi was behind it and that they had destroyed their home. Although Cole tried to comfort the master by saying that home is where all of them are. However, Wu reminded him that they were not all. Lloyd was missing.
The Coming of the King[]
Master Wu with the ninja
After the ninja and their allies got a little familiar with the new environment, they started repairing the mech that was there. Kai and Cole were working on the drill, but it caught fire and Wu had to put it out with a fire extinguisher. The computer then started beeping what Wu thought was a smoke alarm and asked Zane to turn it off. However, the Nindroid informed him that it was not a smoke alarm, but Lloyd's tracker. The Green Ninja was in Primeval's Eye. Wu realized that they would need the Destiny's Bounty to find him, but that would mean stealing it and breaking the law again. Wu therefore asked the ninja if they were willing to do so. With everyone agreeing, they immediately set to work to come up with a plan.
Return to Primeval's Eye[]
Wu looking at the security guards
Following the agreed upon plan, the ninja went to the impound where they secretly attempted to steal their vehicles. However, two security guards spotted Zane getting into his jet and called headquarters. However, before the younger guard could say anything, Wu knocked the walkie-talkie out of his hand with his staff and locked the two guards in their station.
Wu and Nya on the Bounty
Surprised that the Master was there, Zane said he thought Wu had stayed in the cave. The Master retorted that when they broke into Borg Tower to save Nya, he had chosen the path of the law over his own conscience, something he was not going to do again. Zane told him he was glad the Master was there with them and then they left with the others. Wu then jumped onto the Bounty's anchor and was taken aboard, where he told Nya to set a course for Primeval's Eye.
Wu steering the Bounty
Some time later, as Harumi chased Lloyd to the edge of the cliff, the Destiny's Bounty appeared behind him and Wu shouted at Lloyd to get on quickly. Although he succeeded, the Green Ninja did not have time to meet his friends as the ship was attacked by members of the Council on their Dragonides. Wu was caught by the crystalized Sword of Fire in Aspheera's hands, prompting her to make fun of him again. However, Wu then called Zane, who flew in with his jet and started shooting at the Dragonides, forcing them to stop attacking the Bounty. Wu and Nya then looked up at the sky where they spotted the floating Crystal Island. Lloyd then told them that the Overlord had returned, prompting Wu to contact the other ninja and tell them to retreat as they were not ready for the Overlord yet.
Crystastrophe[]
Master Wu with Nya and Lloyd inside the Bounty
While the ninja tried to defeat the crystal army, Lloyd, Nya and Wu remained on the Destiny's Bounty. As Nya wondered how the Overlord could have returned, Wu clarified to her that the Overlord could not be destroyed. Since he was the embodiment of evil, he was fed by anger, hatred, and conflict and as they built up over time, he could gain his strength, and ultimately take form again. Wu knew he would return, but he thought it would be in a several generations. He couldn't believe how he could have missed it when he realized someone was trying to warn him. He explained to Lloyd and Nya that someone had been sending him random newspaper clippings about crimes in Ninjago for months, but he didn't know who they were from. Lloyd noticed that there were symbols on the clippings that the paperboys might recognize and decided to go to them with Wu to find out who sensed that the Overlord was returning.
Wu and Lloyd showing the clippings to the paperboys
Lloyd and Wu then visited the paperboys at their warehouse and asked Antonia for the address from the clippings. Although she didn't know it, Nelson gave them the exact address and, to their surprise, the identity of the apartment's occupant, who was Vinny Folson of NGTV News.
Wu and Lloyd meeting Garmadon again
The two then went to 833 Andreasen Avenue, to apartment 22, where they knocked on the door. When they opened, to both Lloyd's and Wu's surprise, the former Emperor of Ninjago, Garmadon, stood inside.
Christofern[]
Wu and Lloyd with Garmadon in Vinny's living room
Garmadon then let his brother and son into the apartment and asked them what they needed. Wu, who was confused, began to question Garmadon about what he was doing in Ninjago City, if they had been there for a while, and why he was sending him newspaper clippings. Garmadon, who had hoped to avoid this conversation, finally began to tell his story after defeating the Oni.
Wu smiling at Garmadon
When he was done, Wu smiled and told him that he was happy that Garmadon had come such a long way and changed and asked him how. Garmadon told him that he had been given something by Vinny to take care of, a plant called Christofern. However, Lloyd could not believe that Wu trusted him, as he believed that his father could not change. Wu then asked his brother why he was sending him the clippings and preferred not to tell him about the Overlord's return, to which Garmadon replied that he wanted to be left alone. Lloyd, angry with his father then convinced the Master to leave.
Wu and Lloyd watching Garmadon's transformation
However, as soon as they left the apartment, they heard an explosion and quickly returned, only to see Garmadon lying next to the damaged Christofern. The angry older brother transformed into an Oni and began destroying the Crystal Warriors in the street below. Wu then realized that the only way to stop the Overlord's forces was the Oni Power and that Lloyd must embrace his Oni side before it was too late.
A Lesson in Anger[]
Wu and the ninja talking with Garmadon
When the ninja returned from fighting the Crystal Warriors, Wu and the others were already waiting for them in the Samurai X Cave. The Master then told them that it was possible that they had found a way to stop the Vengestone army. He then explained to them that just as the Elemental Powers came from the dragons, the Oni Form came from the Oni and was the only known option to resist the forces of evil. When Kai asked him how he knew that, Garmadon appeared behind the ninja and they immediately tried to protect their master, but Wu stopped them. He then revealed to them that he and Lloyd had seen Garmadon use Oni Form to stop the Crystal Warriors, and that since Lloyd was also part Oni, he should have that ability as well. Wu then expressed his doubts about the whole thing, but Garmadon told him that he had changed since their last meeting and that he would be a kind and patient teacher for Lloyd.
Wu listening to Zane
Wu then, along with the ninja and the others, observed Lloyd's training, but it contradicted all of Wu's teachings. However, when Garmadon mentioned that all things have an opposite, Wu stopped them as he realized they might have another option. He told them that as long as the Oni Form existed, the Dragon Form could also exist. He then realized that Misako was still in the Library of Domu and could find out something about it, so he asked P.I.X.A.L. to go with him to contact her.
Wu with his brother, Garmadon
When the Master returned, he saw Garmadon yelling at Lloyd, so he stood up for him, saying he was doing his best. Garmadon then turned on Wu and called him a poor teacher, which shocked Wu and forced the ninja to defend him. However, Zane stopped a possible argument by saying that they must not waste time and when P.I.X.A.L. showed the ninja their improved vehicles, they decided to go to Ninjago City to fight. Once they left, Garmadon turned to Wu and told him the truth that the ninja did not stand a chance.
Wu showing the Dragon Armor to Lloyd, Garmadon, and Nya
Brave But Foolish[]
While the ninja went to the city to fight, Wu donned the Dragon Armor with a few upgrades made by P.I.X.A.L. and went along with Nya, Lloyd and Garmadon on the Destiny's Bounty. When he entered the control room, he surprised Lloyd by wearing the Dragon Armor but Wu replied that he would not sit out the battle against the very forces of darkness. Garmadon asked him about that if he didn't think the armor would help him fight the Overlord, which angered Lloyd as he was hoping for something positive. He then left the room and Wu ran after him.
Master Wu landing on the Crystal Island
However, when they went aboard, the Bounty began to be attacked by the Dragonides as they got too close to the Crystal Island. Wu fought the beasts using Spinjitzu and the Dragonbone Blade, but it wasn't enough. He finally decided to jump off the ship and used the artificial wings attached to his armor to fly all the way to the island and landed on it.
Wu fighting the Overlord himself
The Master then climbed to the top, where the Overlord was already waiting for him and greeted him by asking if he really thought he had a chance against him. Wu, who was aware that he could not win, replied that even if not, he would oppose him to his last breath. He then used Spinjitzu and attacked the Overlord, but he stopped Wu's blade with his hand. The brave master then attacked again, talking about how his father used to tell him stories about the Overlord and how he was afraid of him, but that he wasn't anymore, realizing that every story ended with the Overlord's defeat.
Wu's defeat by the Overlord
The Master continued to fight against the Crystal King, dodging the crystal shards that the Overlord threw at him. However, he failed to avoid a powerful blow from the Overlord himself, which threw him to the edge of the island, where he could only hold on with one hand and the blade fell from his hands. The Overlord told him that since he would oppose him forever, he must be the first to fall and threw him off the cliff with a powerful blast. However, Wu managed to recover and flew away from the island with the help of artificial wings.
Wu flying away from the Crystal Island
Quittin' Time![]
As Wu tried to fly away from the Crystal Island, he was chased by a Dragonide, but the Master managed to escape it. Unfortunately, a second one appeared then and managed to catch Wu's wing and fly with him. Wu, realizing he had no other chance, noticed that there was a canal below them, so when he was directly above it, he detached his wings from his armor and fell into the water.
Nelson and Antonia saving Master Wu
Fortunately, Nelson and Antonia saw Wu's fall and came to the canal, where Nelson managed to pull Wu out of the water and Antonia gave him CPR. The Master then coughed up the water he drank and was led to the newspaper warehouse with their help.
Wu with the paperboys in their warehouse
When they got there, Leroy gave Wu a bottle of water, which he drank before sitting on a chair. Antonia then told him that the Destiny's Bounty has been destroyed and no one knew where the ninja were. Wu was horrified and scared at first, but then he realized that the ninja have been through worse. Nelson then asked Wu what the plan was for a counterattack, which shocked the Master and he told the paperboys that there would be no counterattack and that he had to get them all to safety. The paperboys disagreed and tried to convince him that despite being just children, they delivered newspapers during crises. However, Wu disagreed with them and told them that he only led the ninja into battle because he thought they had a chance. But he was wrong.
Wu saving the people from the Crystal Warriors
Wu then convinced the paperboys to get on their bikes and explained that once they got out of the warehouse, they were to go to the edge of the city and avoid contact with the Crystal Warriors. But then he heard the screams of people on the street and decided to help. He took the only weapon he had at hand, a broom, and went outside. He started fighting the Crystal Warriors and managed to defeat many, but it wasn't enough. Then the paperboys also came out of the warehouse and destroyed the warriors with large stocks of newspapers. Wu was shocked and surprised at their involvement and told the paperboys to put their bikes down with the explanation that the ninja never quit.
Master Wu broadcasting his message
Master Wu then returned to the warehouse and decided to broadcast a message to the ninja and citizens of the city over the old radio. He said that even though the enemies were attacking their city and wanted to destroy all that was good, they would fail in the end. Because the forces of good were stronger. The news never sleeps. And everyone who listened was an honorary ninja. And the ninja never quit.
Return of the Ice Emperor[]
Misako showing the scroll to Wu
Over the next few hours, Wu and the paperboys managed to rescue a number of citizens and house them in the paperboys warehouse. When Antonia brought more people, Misako was among them who wanted to talk to Wu. When the Master recognized her voice, he got up from the table and hugged his old friend. He then asked her if she had found anything in the Library of Domu.
Wu and Misako talking about the prophecy
Misako then spread the scroll she brought from the library on the table. She explained to Wu that it was a prophecy about the Dragon Form from Quanish the Elder. Wu was not happy with this information as he believed that Quanish was a fool. However, Misako told him that it was their only option, but she didn't know how to read the text on the scroll. So Wu realized that their only option was to rely on the images, and that they had to believe that Quanish wasn't as foolish as he thought.
Safe Haven[]
Wu talking with Jake's parents
When Wu brought two bowls of noodles for some people to warm up, a pair asked him to go out to find their son. However, Wu asked them to stay inside as they would have no chance outside and would be infected sooner or later.
Wu hugging Cole and Kai
That's when Cole, Kai, Skylor, and Jake entered the warehouse, who immediately found his parents, whom Wu was talking to. The Master immediately noticed his students and hugged Kai and Cole at the same time. Then Wu told them that they had a lot of work ahead of them, so they separated from the citizens and went to prepare.
Compatible[]
Wu and Misako studying the scroll
Some time later, Wu got to examining the scroll that Misako had found in the Library of Domu. As he tried to read the text, he became annoyed at not knowing the language used. Misako tried to calm him down, but just then Cole announced to the others that he had managed to adjust the dispatch radio to the same frequency as the ninja and asked Wu if he wanted to say anything. The Master took the device in his hand and successfully connected with the other ninja. Cole then wanted to tell them where their hideout was, but Wu stopped him, saying that their signal could be intercepted.
Wu explaining his plan
Nya and Jay then let their friends know that they were trying to call Benthomaar for help, which Wu seconded. Then he realized that they could ask Queen Vania for help as well. Everyone agreed, and Cole, along with Vinny and Blazey H. Speed, left the warehouse and headed to the NGTV broadcast tower.
Wu looking at the Crystal Island
Distress Calls[]
While the ninja were trying to call for help, Wu contacted them using the old radio and asked if they had managed to send out distress calls. After learning that neither was sure if the plan had worked, Wu told them to go back and find another way to stop the Overlord. He then dropped the device to the ground and walked out onto the roof of the warehouse from where he looked up at the floating Crystal Island realizing that there might be no other way.
An Issue of Trust[]
Wu showing the scroll to the ninja
While Wu and Misako were studying the scroll again, Nelson ran up to tell him that the ninja and Garmadon had returned. Wu therefore went out into the street to greet the ninja who informed him that they were helpless. However, Wu told them that they still had allies and pointed to Ronin, Killow, Ultra Violet and Fugi-Dove. He then invited them inside and showed them the scroll, explaining that it was the final prophecy of Quanish the Elder, which foretold the final battle against the forces of evil, and the only possible victory could be by achieving the Dragon Form. Garmadon asked him how to achieve this form, but Wu wasn't sure. However, he showed them the images on the scroll and so the ninja decided to do what was shown on them.
Wu reading the prophecy
As the ninja tried to follow the images that showed them to jump up, kick back, whip around, and spin, Wu and Garmadon watched them, but since nothing was happening, they began to lose hope. Wu finally threw the scroll to the ground in a fit of rage and left, but Nelson noticed that the paper was folded. Cole then called Wu and folded the whole scroll so that the text could be read. Wu recognized the Old Tongue and read the ninja the prophecy: "Only if the allies unite through a selfless act, will main and might prevail the light, and dragon take flight." However, before they could do anything, Cyrus Borg contacted them and revealed that the Overlord's Crystal Island was heading their way.
Wu and the ninja preparing for the fight
Garmadon therefore decided that he would go fight the Overlord, but Wu would not let him go alone. Lloyd therefore decided to go with him, but when the other ninja were about to join in, Wu stopped them, saying that they needed to get the Overlord's attention while Lloyd and Garmadon attacked from behind. Although Zane wasn't sure if they could defend one warehouse, Wu believed it was not impossible.
The Master then explained his plan to them, saying that he, along with the ninja and allies they had, would stand outside the warehouse ready to fight. As soon as the Crystal Warriors appeared in the street with the Council of the Crystal King, Wu and the others ran towards them to fight them.
Dragon Form[]
Wu and the others watching the ninja's tranformation
Wu and the ninja began to fight the crystal army, but were unable to win. That's when the Merlopians and the Keepers appeared, having received the message from Nya, as well as the Army of Shintaro. Other ninja allies also appeared and Wu realized the meaning of the prophecy. He therefore yelled at the ninja to try again to achieve the Dragon Form, which they did and it finally worked, much to Wu's amazement.
Wu and the ninja in the Dragon Form
When the Council members lost their Weapons of Destruction and were regained by the ninja, Wu realized that the Crystal Warriors were weakened and could be destroyed. That's why he started attacking them together with the others.
Even though the plan worked, as the Crystal Island got closer, Wu realized the truth. The Overlord didn't want to destroy the ninja but to corrupt the powers of Creation and it was too late to stop him.
Wu and the allies watching the Golden Ultra Dragon's creation
Roots[]
At that moment, Wu realized that their last chance was to unite the Weapons of Spinjitzu. Over the objections of the ninja, Wu knew that they had to destroy the weapons so that their energy could be released and the Overlord could not take it. They finally decided to do as their master asked and flew to the roof of a nearby building, leaving Wu with Nya and Misako on the street.
Wu and the others looking at the dragon
When the ninja managed to unite their weapons, their Elemental Powers turned into their original form, the Golden Ultra Dragon and Lloyd used it to destroy the Overlord's physical form. Wu, who was watching everything from the ground together with Nya, couldn't believe that it actually happened.
Wu smiling at the ninja
When the dragon landed on the newspaper warehouse where the ninja were waiting, Wu and the others ran after them and as soon as they arrived, Wu expressed how proud he was of his brother. The Golden Ultra Dragon then disappeared to the ninja's surprise, so Wu explained to them that the Powers of Creation had returned to where they came from. Kai asked him if he thought they would ever return and the Master agreed, believing that true power was never lost. Cole then asked Wu what they were going to do and the Master told him that they would do what they always do, rebuild.
"Remarkable. Simply remarkable."
Wu and the ninja then returned to the Monastery of Spinjitzu and began repairing it. Wu stood on the wall and watched as the ninja lifted the gate and fixed it in place. That was when Dareth came running after them, saying that they would need help. When Wu saw a number of their friends along with Garmadon going up the stairs to help them with the repairs, Wu smiled and jumped down to his brother, entering the courtyard with him. He stood there, smiling and watching. And when he saw his nephew and brother helping each other, he just expressed that it was simply remarkable.
Dragons Rising, Season 1
Dragons Rising, Season 1[]
Wu with Lloyd in the library
Sometime after the Monastery of Spinjitzu was rebuilt, Wu began his studies of the Merge to prevent it, calling it "the Coalescence." He sent Lloyd to look through all the scrolls containing information about the Coalescence, though Lloyd had no idea what it was. When Lloyd came to Wu in the library and gave him the new scrolls, Wu read one and told himself in horror that this was impossible since it was centuries ago. Lloyd, not understanding what was going on, wanted to leave, but Wu stopped him. He then told him that he hoped for Lloyd to be a better master of the Monastery than he was and that family was the key. Lloyd's next confused speech was interrupted by a strong quake that destroyed the wall of the room. As the event took place, Wu came to the understanding that the Merge had already begun, but he was unclear about what instigated it.
Wu and the ninja looking at the Merge
Both Wu and Lloyd then ran out into the courtyard where the other ninja were already and looked in horror at the sky where the Merge had just begun. Several portals to other realms opened and they all began to merge. The ninja then went into the city with the Bounty to save as many citizens as possible. When the Bounty went into the Merge, Wu mouthed to himself that he thought he could "pull it off," but that "it happened too soon," to which the ninja couldn't hear due to the raging loud storm. He then told the ninja that only unity can save them, and that they will have no chance if they're separated.[65] When the Merge ended and the portals closed, Wu and the other ninja disappeared without a trace.[66] Wu lost his physical form and became a spirit. The spirit divided into four pieces; three traveled to other realms, while one remained in Ninjago. The realms included the Cloud Kingdom, Imperium, and Mysterium. The fragment that went to Mysterium stayed with Gandalaria at the Monastery of Mysterium, where it was named Sprite.[67][68]
